Sae 1
She had volunteered to help Ushi with a certain job that the village had given him. Well they had given it to his father who tossed the paper into the crowd of beast tamers in the house and Ushi had crawled out with said paper in tact, thus winning the job and the associated reward which would set them up for a few months. She didn't particularly want to leave their babies behind but beast charming was best performed with older children, like in their twenties not still wrapped up in their blankies.
She kissed both of them before she left, little Daanu and Ushiruin warbled curiously but she was leaving them with their doting grandparents. She wondered if Kiyelt hadn't been rooting for Ushi so he could play with his grandchildren and relive the days of being a new parent himself. He had certainly had enough kids.

Ushi 1
He came into the nursery room to usher his woman out for a spirited hunt. But he too was caught under the kids spell for a moment and spent some time looking into their faces. Another gorgeous daughter, he was in for a world of pain when they all came to age, and a sturdy young son who liked to yank on his hair. He couldn't be more proud!
"Sae we cannot linger here. We must go." He hated to drag her from them, but this exercise should be good for all involved. She needed something to do and he needed some time with her, win win!
"The beast was last seen in the village square heading towards the beach, apparently using any shadow available to hide. They still did not get a clear view of it."

Sae 2
Sae gave him "the look." "How unfortunate." She was just itching to pick up her children and spend the day letting them hold her finger and just gazing into their sweet faces. "What if they get hungry?"
She knew there was plenty of quahar milk, Zasha kept them well supplied from her herd. Why she had a herd, Sae did not know but she was thankful just the same. She was just desperately trying to find an excuse to stay here with them. But judging from the steely glint in Ushi's eye she was not going to win. "Okay fine, I'm coming, let me get my cloak."

Ushi 2
Once he had his wife good and collected and mounted on his janarim he swung up behind her, waved to his parents who may or may not have been watching out the window with bemused expressions, and headed to town to solve the great mystery and make some decent coin. He felt wild and free and was maybe chafing just a little bit but it was worth it to have Sae seated up in front of him, their bodies rocking with the beasts steps and her strong hands guiding the creature expertly to the market.
He dismounted first after arrival and helped her off the broad back. "Well then not too much drama, I suppose we head to the beach and try to pick up the trail?"

The clouds grumbled overhead and she looked at him glumly, she usually didn't mind getting wet but only when it was her choice really. But the job had to be done and he looked most bright eyed and bushy tailed to be out and about outdoors. Poor Ushi. She would have to spend some extra time with him so he didn't feel quite so lonely.
"Sounds good to me." They headed for the beach just as the sky opened up and within seconds they were thoroughly soaked. "You Sir, owe me a hot bath." She playfully smacked his butt when they were alone, skipping around together in the sand like two lovesick puppies.
She adored this man with all of her heart. A thought occured to her and she paused, looking around. She thought she felt..eyes watching her, her daughter's eyes, clever, confident and if she might say so conniving. "Is Kechi here?'

Ushi 3
He was looking for prints in the sand before the rain washed it all into oblivion. "Kechi? No I think she is on board with Theriar and Kellye today, something about knots and wind and blah blah blah, you know sailor stuff." He pinched her bum and smiled at her squeak of surprise.
"From the tracks it is a young snaptrotter, they are very fresh, it should be denned down somewhere perhaps in the bushes or in a pool of water. Too small to be very good at seafaring yet its probably a coastal creature."
A twig snapping had them both haring after the noise trying to find their culprit. At least he knew what he was dealing with now that was half the battle wasn't it?

Sae 4
Her blood was pumped full of adrenaline now. She knew one snaptrotter, his name was Myr and he was extra large and extra well trained, though he still sometimes teased Thallassa with his antics. She preferred to do her own walking for the most part so was not usually in need of a mount, she ocassionaly took her husbands janarim out for rides but he spoiled her by being a perfect angel everytime she was on his back. He was such a good boy. She wished that Ushi hadn't have left him hitched up, he might be sure how big the critter was but one never knew how big a snapper was until it got out of the pond or there could be another larger one in there. She liked solid logical things like iron and steel not scrabbly clawed, fanged toothy things.
"EEEEEEEE!" She screeched as a young green snaptrotter bounded out of the bushes hissing and carrying on and trying to make itself look much bigger than it was.
It was a beautiful beast but it nearly bowled her over, she twisted an caught at its tail, hanging on for dear life.

Sae was having all of the fun already! She was such a trooper. He whooped and hopped nimbly onto the young snaptrotter who unused to the weight sank slowly to the ground and huffed once it got there.
"What on earth have you been up to little one and why? Terrorizing the village, stealing food, hissing at babies, come on now thats low even for you." He pounced on its snoot and effectively demobilized the critter to a certain extent.
"Good job Sae!"

Sae 5
She was panting but she was also heavier than she looked due to a lot of lean muscle. "Thanks babe." As far as their animal wrangling adventures went this wasn't so bad, the critter was a lot smaller than normal.
"Okay we have the critter, should we find out why it was behaving like that? Its too young isn't it?"
It was somewhat abnormal behaviour for a snaptrotter usually they stayed with their parents until they were at least able to handle the ocean.

"Yeah, right. Lets look." He secured the critter with rope and covered its eyes so it could just chill while they checked the area.
What he did find was a decomposing adult female. "Looks like the little snapper lost its mama to early and didn't know how to hunt very well quite yet." Couldn't hold that against the little one could they?
"We will take her home and look after her, then we can decide to keep her or set her free away from the village. Point is at least we get the reward. And the snapper."

She found a piece of blue seaglass on the beach nearby and handed it to him. "A good luck piece." She smiled. Why was it that she could be vulnerable only around him and her kids. Everyone else was kept just a shade or two away.
She loved this wild crazy, critter catching man. He was arrogant and iron willed, and he was all hers. Fortunately she was rather practiced at bending iron, knew how to make it stronger. They worked together for the greater good, to be happy.
"Sure is a cute baby, you should keep it."

"I'm sure Seaglass here will appreciate the home. Maybe she would make you a good mount one day. I have him after all." He waved in the janarim's vague direction. "Would be quite striking with a lime green and black snaptrotter." His blacksmith warrior goddess.
He felt like she would be able to handle the little one's fire. Small dragon in his opinion. But a cute one.
Seaglass hissed, somehow knowing she was being talked about. Earthlings, ugh.
Yup he was definitely in for it.

"I'm sure we will get along fine. She reminds me of Kechiri and the only way I don't let her get the upper hand is to for any second think she is scarier than me." Sae grinned at him. Their daughter also had a famously fiery temper.
"Don't worry little one, you will be feeling much better soon, some good food and rest in a nice place where for once you are safe."
She knew what that felt like, to be taken in. But it was Ushi who saved her from a life of boredom, every day.

It might take him forever to tame the little beast but he would do it for her, Sae had never taken so to a potential mount before, and he usually felt bad when she had to walk for too far of a distance. Snaptrotters could be scary and had quite the reputation but in the right hands made loyal companions. Thal had a darky murky green one called Myr who loved Terr and Thal's children like they were his own hatchlings. And frequently scolded Thal when he thought the hybrid wasn't doing a good enough job of protecting his nest.
"I'm glad they called before she got hurt. Or someone else did. They did grow pretty fast. "
He collected the reward and split it fifty fifty with Sae. A good days work and a lot of fun to boot. "Its so good to see you get out there and hustle, just like always." She poured her entire heart into what she was doing.
