You've heard rumors of a local beast that has been causing trouble, always striking and darting away without a trace. Many have tried to capture it, but with no success. Now that fall is settling in, the community is distressed at the trouble being caused and has asked for your help in finding the beast and either relocating or finding away to get rid of it from the community.
[ A creature is terrorizing the community, but what is it and is it really such a problem? Use the fauna thread to pick out a local beast and tell us how your character found and if they remove or relocate it...or maybe even tame it as their own (not all fauna can be tamed). ]
It wasn't every year that their family made it to Yael. There was frequent talk of visiting the southern isle, but any extended trips were usually reserved for Belrea's shores. After Hiruna's birth those trips had calmed considerably in the wake of her frequent illnesses', but now that the little Geian 'princess' was healthy enough they'd finally settled on Yael.
Yazeed was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't...a place he necessarily enjoyed, but going anywhere new was always an adventure. Hiruna was naturally scared of the stories being tossed around by locals, about where not to go and why not to go there, but he was quick to calm her. Good warnings they might be, though he doubted there were old hag women to turn her into a stone if she didn't blink three times every time she saw a frog.
Tales of a beast terrorizing the outskirts of the little village they'd settled into was enough to draw their parents' interests. The three had been told to stay back at camp, to keep their heads low and stay safe. Or rather, Yazeed had his duties.
Keep Hiruna safe and keep Cat in camp.
Ah, well, he wasn't going to be getting any sleep that night.

Cat was delighted at the chance to explore a new land. Or rather he would be more delighted if his family wasn't so damn protective. The teen let out yet another huff as he laid on his sleeping back, a worn down ball continuously being tossed up and down as he counted the minutes since his parents had headed out. If Yazeed wanted to babysit Hiruna then that made sense, but why did Cat have to stay behind? He was good at fighting and could take on anything that dared to challenge him! What if Yael really did have spirits? Then he would just punch them in their non-existent faces until they left him alone! If punching didn't work then he would toss water or something at them. If there's a will, there's a way. That was most definitely his motto. That very idea was going to play a role tonight as Cat caught the worn down leather ball for the last time, rolling onto his side and then finally standing again as he began pacing around the camp.
Suddenly a noise caught his attention. Was that coming from the deeper area of forest next to camp? Rather than looking troubled, the young hybrid's expression actually brightened as he sought out his brother and guard. "Yazeed." He hissed quietly, or rather what he felt was quiet enough, "Did you hear that?! What if it's some sort of beast or something?" Hadn't the locals in the nearby village mentioned something about a beast bothering them? What perfect timing! Cat's gaze was bright as he glanced about for his training spear, the teen prepared to race for it the next time he heard the strange noise in the distance. Was it getting closer? Hopefully! "We can't just let something dangerous roam around us, right? The villagers did mention a beast that was causing trouble!"

There had been little point in going to his own tent that night. Hiruna's was closer to Cat so he hoped to hear his younger brother move around, and besides, Hiruna didn't like to sleep alone. When she wasn't in the middle of his parents then she was usually sprawled out closer to him and occasionally, when they weren't bickering, then the inquisitive son himself.
Yazeed hadn't meant to fall asleep when he did. He left the flap of Hiruna's tent open to let the warmth from the dying fire inside and also so he could hear outside noises. At some point he'd nodded off sitting up and when Cat was suddenly inches away from him he jolted away with a sharp inhale. It was enough to startle the massive hybrid whose eyes widened before settling on his younger brother. For a moment he looked around until he spotted Hiruna in her typical spot; snuggled up in his lap with a blanket around her.
"You've got that look." Yazeed murmured. He gently maneuvered Hiruna until she was tucked into her bedroll and moved to get out of the tent. Watching Cat move around the camp, digging for his spear, was nothing if not concerning. Could his brother handle himself? Sure. Would he try to take on something he couldn't just for the hell of it?...unfortunately, yeah, probably.
"I heard you; nothing else." Stretching his arms over his head, Yazeed tilted his body to try to pop out some of the knots. "If it comes here then you can do something about it, but you shouldn't chase it. You'll be on your own; I can't drag Hiruna out there." More over he personally didn't want to be dragged out into the woods over gossip in the middle of the night either.

"What look?" Cat shot Yazeed another look, this time scrunching up his nose and wrinkling his forehead as if trying to feign confusion. "I don't know what you mean." He started, his voice lowering as he watched his sibling move their young sister into a comfortable spot. Once Yazeed came outside then Cat took another step or two backwards, his hands wrapped firmly around his spear now that he had located the weapon. How Hiruna and Yazeed could even doze out here in the middle of such an area was beyond him. There was simply too much excitement in the foreign environment and the nearby forest constantly sent shivers down his back. Either from fear or excitement the boy did not exactly know, especially since the locals were so fond of their superstitions and scary stories. If anyone in this family was gullible then it would be Cat who thrived on the unknown dangers of the world.
"Be hard to hear anything over that snoring." Teased Cat as he poked at his brother for falling asleep with Hiruna. "I swear though I heard something nearby. What if it jumps us while we're waiting around? Can't we just like tie up the tent flaps so that Hiruna is safely in place?" He protested quietly, his gaze darting back towards where their sister was sleeping. At least when she slept she was adorable....and then she would wake up and ruin it. Cat's lips pressed into a tight line at the thought before he shook his head. "Whatever. I'll just take care of it on my own then." His hand tightened around the spear as he turned on a heel, the teen only freezing when more noises cut through the night air. Was that a rustling in the bushes nearby or simply the wind? Though he didn't feel any breeze rustling his clothing when the noise caught his attention. "Yazeed." Cat peeked back over his shoulder. "Did you still not hear that?"

"Riiiight." Yazeed rubbed a calloused hand over his face in an attempt to stifle a yawn. There wasn't much the excited the older boy, or at the very least much that got him moving faster than a casual stride. His family knew that Yazeed's pace was his own and while he might branch out a bit from time to time for his siblings he was happiest just taking things slow.
That being said sometime he wished he could fold his brother up, stuff him in a knapsack and thaw him back out in the spring.
"Just means you know where I'm at." He knocked his hip against Cat's. "What if this thing is strong enough to tear through a tent flap?" The way he phrased it was placating at best, and when the younger hybrid started to leave he reached out to grasp the butt of Cat's spear. "You're not going on your ow-"
Ah, well, now that was something.
He cocked his head to the side to listen to the noise, his antennae moving just so-so as if to pick up vibrations. It didn't sound like he'd have to worry about Cat chasing stories into the jungle; the gossip was coming to them.
"Okay, okay, something's here," He murmured. "What do we do about it?"

It would be a lie to say that Cat didn't feel a shiver whenever something seemingly moved in the bushes ahead of them. Was that a flicker of light or glowing eyes? Cat's gaze narrowed, the hybrid tightening his fingers around his weapon as if preparing to defend himself and his family. "I say we stop it before it destroys our tent." He hissed back towards his brother under his breath, his pale blue gaze seemingly looking for help even though he squared his shoulders as if prepared to take on this thing by himself.
"I'm going to stop it before it gets any closer." Cat decided with a firm nod, the hybrid starting forward through the bushes towards where he had last seen movement. Whatever it was seemed to be circling their camp and he was not about to let it continue doing whatever it was doing! He was going to be the hunter, not the prey dammit!

Goddess, why? Yazeed could preach patience until he was blue in the face, but getting his brother to think a situation out before diving in was useless.
"Try to think of a trap or a way to scare it off." Maybe if they could make a big enough gesture to scare the creature then it would bail out on it's own? It might be a way to keep his brother from getting bit as well, though that was up for debate.

"What? Want me to make a lot of noise and act bigger or something?" Cat frowned before actually well...liking the sound of the idea. As much as he wanted to be bold and go fighting a creature in the middle of the woods at night, the very idea seemed potentially dangerous and his younger sister was way too close for comfort. What if something went wrong? As the glowing eyes caught his attention again, the teen swearing he saw a flash of fangs and fur as the creature prowled nearby, Cat glanced about their encampment to search for something useful.
"We need some pots and pans. We might wake up our sister, buuut....I think it's better than letting a creature near her tent." He advised Yazeed with a slight shrug, if Hiruna woke up then she woke up.

"You're making a lot of noise already so you tell me." As easy as it was to tease him it wasn't actually a bad plan. Yazeed turned back to the tent where Hiruna slumbered away and felt his heart drop. It would take ages to get her back down, but it was better than the alternatives.
He crept toward the campfire and tried his best to keep an eye out. Yazeed dipped down to grasp a stone in one hand and the skillet from that nights feast in the other, patiently waiting for Cat to start the ruckus.

"When in doubt, noise it out?" Cat gave a shrug without worrying about a bad pun in the middle of this mess, the hybrid focusing instead on finding anything viable for noise making. Shouting would only do so much when he knew that something with higher pitches could really hurt a beast's ears. Surely a wirenth was like the folmar or a radaku in a sense, right? The beasts back in Belrea absolutely hated loud noises just like how radaku despised them in Jahaur.
Picking up a cast iron pot that they had used for stew the other night, thankfully Cat had cleaned it after grumbling all evening over being the loser tasked with clean-up, Cat started to bang on it aggressively with a stick. "Shoo! Shoo!" He called out, walking further and further away from the tent and closer to the woods hoping that somehow Hiruna slept through it all especially since he was trying to move forward to drive back whatever beast was prowling out there in the darkness.

By the time Yazeed had stood up to his full, impressive height he was already banging on the skillet. He let out several loud, deep 'whoops' and hollers, hoping against hope that Hiruna might sleep through it. Of course there was no such chance. In the midst of the ruckus their baby sister came flying out of the tent, grasping onto the edges with her little tanned hands. Strands of gradient hair were flung around her face, eyes widened in fear and confusion.
"It's a party, Hiruna! A...night party? Make as much noise as you can!"
"But we're supposed to be quiet at night....?" She furrowed her brow nervously and looked between her older brothers. One of her hands went up to her ear as if to block out all the sounds.

A low growl of a beast answered in the moment of silence as Cat nearly dropped his weapon of choice at the appearance of their younger sister. "H-hey!" He called out banging the pot a few more times, the ringing noise surely piercing for those who could hear higher frequencies, but then he glanced over towards Hiruna and nodded enthusiastically. "Not tonight! It's a special holiday! In Yael you have to make lots of noises so that the spirits do their...thing or whatever!" He called out with a grin now that he was circling back around their encampment, the hybrid nudging his younger sister towards another pan even though she was still frowning at him.
Not waiting to see if she picked up the pan, even though he did gesture towards it one final time and Hiruna did seemingly move to pick up the thing though she stared at it more than wanting to beat it up, Cat continued on his spree of noise making as he made certain that whatever was in the darkness stayed far away. Bad wirenth, next time I'll actually fight you! Just...not now. As disappointing as it was, Cat knew to behave when his family was right there...at least when Hiruna was involved. Yazeed not as much, but his brother could always drag him out of danger whereas getting Hiruna in danger would lead to a lot more trouble for Cat.

"The louder you are the happier the spirits are!"
For all of her apparent confusion Hiruna was starting to pick up on their 'energy' and apparent enthusiasm. When she looked up to Cat one final time Yazeed passed around behind her to put an encouraging hand on her head and the little one joined in.
Now he was finally able to track the wirenth, or at least where he thought the beast was. With Cat on the wider circle Yazeed was able to stick closer to the fire and serve as a protector for Hiruna. Between the two of them their baby sister should stay safe, if not deaf by morning.

Admittedly Cat was probably having a bit too much fun with making so much noise. "Let's go!" He yelled as even Hiruna joined in on the noise making, the hybrid giving a rare smile towards his sister instead of some sort of sneer or teasing commentary. He did love her...just not when he was being a bit too jealous of the attention given to their baby sister. Still, following Yazeed's lead the teen made certain to walk just far enough behind his sibling to keep anything from trying to dart into the encampment by keeping the noise going until finally the creature had enough and disappeared further into the woods away from the crazy trio that made its ears ring in agony.
