Cyrus had packed everything that he thought would help with today's mission. The teen had been roped into helping out the rangers with some local tasks, something that someone who wasn't going out on escort and scouting missions could easily help with, and today he was focused on trying to figure out whatever was messing with the food supplies. They had gathered so much from the local harvest to prepare for the winter, but the storage shed had somehow gotten broken into without a trace of the culprit in sight. He just hoped it was a proscuta or something small, not anything like a witu that would give them dangerous fight.

"Now do I set the traps in the nearby clearing or hope to set something around the actual shed?" He mused, tapping a finger on his chin thoughtfully. He had gathered ropes, netting and even borrowed a small cage to place any creature in so that they could relocate it in a space further away from the ranger's hidden village.

[Sylas 1]

Sylas had been looking around the village for his brother for what seemed like a long time. Finally he thought he saw him holding a couple of things. "HEY CY!" He yelled as he ran over. "What's all that stuff for? Are we going to be playing a prank on someone?" They wouldn't ever hurt anyone but it would be fun to get some other people to laugh.

"Oh hey." Cyrus grinned at his twin before shaking his head with amusement at the question. Even if they were going to do a prank then this was far too obvious for something he would devise. "Not this time. There's been something getting into the food storage and I was hoping to catch it. Have some time to help out?" He held up the ropes and netting before nodding towards the cage on the ground as well. There was a bag of biscuits next to it, a small treat that would hopefully entice whatever was out there into grabbing a bite. If it was something bigger than expected well....they would just have to deal with things differently, that was all. At this point he knew the rangers just wanted an idea of what was going on so that they could stop pointing fingers at each other. If they caught a ranger? Now then maybe it could be considered a prank....though he really hoped it wasn't a ranger as tempting as it was to frustrate any of the older apprentice rangers who gave his oldest sister such a hard time.

[Sylas 2]

Sylas shrugged at his brother and bent to pick up the cage that his brother had on the ground. Only to realize he needed to grab the treats as well so of course he juggled things around until he was holding both. It would have been too easy to put the cage down and grab each in the proper order.

"I can help ya bro!" Sy said. "Are we setting this stuff up over by the food storage then? I'm not sure if the cage will work so well over there...why go into the small box thing to get this treat when there's a whole storage of food over here next to it? Hmmmmm." Sylas thought about it for a few minutes.

Cyrus blinked at the question. "Good point. What do you think?" He asked finally taking his twin seriously despite the amusing scene of that shuffle to pick up the cage and treats. Cyrus was contemplating the whole situation quietly. If anything he had meant to stake out the area and was just hoping the cage would maybe capture the creature, if they were lucky enough for it to wander inside. "I was thinking of just watching the area from a hiding spot to see what happened. Do you think that maybe having open treats would make a creature more likely to go for them instead of having to dig through storage crates and stuff?"

[Sylas 3]

"Yeah... we might have to stake it out a little if we want to try and find out where it's coming from....is there a good spot we can hide tonight? Maybe we put out some of these treats in a couple of different places outside of the storage area so we can figure out where it's coming from if we're not able to find it...." Maybe they could set up a trap inside of the storage area in case the pest was able to get passed their stakeout.

"We could hide within the storage shed, there's some empty shelves we could climb into or even some crates that we could empty..." Mused Cyrus thoughtfully with a nod. "A couple of spots with treats could give us more chances to catch it in a net." He held up the netting thoughtfully, his head tilting as he studied it and tried to calculate the spots in his mind. "Place this down, cover it with treats and the net will be hard to see in the dark...we could rig it so that we just need to tug the ropes and the nets will all snap up at the same time." They had done something similar before when messing with some other apprentices living within the village...that had gotten a fun lecture but had totally been worth it to see them dangling from trees for a couple of hours.

"That could work....but the only thing is that it would be hard to see if anything is coming...especially if we hide inside the crates. But we could do the nets!" That sounded like a good idea to him. "Okay lets put this cage somewhere outside just in case and then put the nets out. I'll let you do the rigging so I don't mess it up again...We don't need to have someone save us from our own trap again..." Their trap had taken some time to perfect...but now he thought it was pretty good so it should do the trick.

"True....oh!" Cyrus blinked. "What if we added some bells to the mix? If the treats get pounced then the pressure could maybe ring some bells to alert us." He could have a tie or something that had a bell tangled on it, nothing to keep the creature out but just enough to give them a warning as it dug inside. "But I'll handle the rigging then." Cyrus chuckled at the memory of the last time Sylas had set up the netting and they had been the ones to hang out for a good hour or so. "Let's get to work on this." Shifting the netting and rope in his arms, Cyrus started forward towards the shed to set up the traps in various spots.

Sylas nodded. Unfortunately he didn't think they had any kinds of bells around so they would have to make due for today. While Cyrus decided where he wanted the traps placed, Sylas worked on laying out the nets with the treats on top. That would at least allow Cy to tie everything up in the right order. "How long do you think we'll have to wait?"

"Probably until evening." Replied Cyrus honestly. "Most of the rangers complained that it was always there before evening and the next morning things were gone." He gave a slight shrug and surveyed the netting before glancing over at some hiding spaces within the shed. "Should we take to the shelves or try the roof for a hiding spot?" He asked looking at this twin. "Should make ourselves comfortable for a bit, maybe even sneak some food since we're working on solving this mystery."

As much as he liked food, it didn't sound like a good idea if they were supposed to be hiding from something. "We'll probably make too much noise if we try and eat something. Hopefully we won't starve too much..." Sylas said somewhat woefully. "Let's hide in the shelves, whatever it is might see us if we're laying on the roof. And it might be a little hot up there under the sun for now. So inside sounds better. He walked around until he found a spot he thought would hide him well enough before he crouched down and made himself comfortable.

As much as the rumble in his stomach hated the idea, Cyrus had to admit that Sylas was right about eating now. They would simply have to wait until after this was over. And so he followed Sylas inside of the storage shed, climbing up into a comfortable spot in the shelving. Thankfully they were made out of sturdy wood so it wasn't hard for him to simply tuck his legs up as he waited for whatever thief was coming in later...

A couple of hours and boredom nearly drove him crazy, but then the poscuta finally arrived. Cyrus had nearly dozed off before hearing a scratching noise. His gaze darted around the shed until he noticed a shadow appearing in the back corner, his mind quickly processing what had happened when he realized that the sunlight was coming in from the corner there and highlighting the creature. The little thief had been using a small hole towards the back corner of the shed and was easily attracted by the free treats. Cyrus waited until it was closer until giving the signal hoping that both he and Sylas could tug the ropes in time to get the skittering creature caught up in one of the nets! If so, then they definitely had succeeded and would be able to eat soon! And if anything at least he had noticed the hole so that they could patch it up and hope that no more poscuta dug through the walls....that would surely help, right?

Sylas wouldn't say he had dozed off...but he had definitely rested his eyes. It was the noise that woke him up first. It wasn't unusual for his own snoring to wake him up but thankfully the scratching noise registered before he made too much noise. He was just about to try and give Cyrus the signal when he saw his brother already giving the signal. He pulled on the rope as quickly and with as much strength as he could, hopefully they caught whatever the creature was!
