Things may be peaceful in Tendaji these days, but that doesn't mean that trouble doesn't suddenly appear out of nowhere. In fact, you just happen to stumble upon trouble and must figure out the best way to step in and help (or not, if you're more of the troublemaker type).
16 - 20: Earthquake Tendaji doesn't get too many earthquakes, so it's surprising when the ground begins to shake. Not terrible enough to split the ground, this quake was still strong enough to shake up the community and cause some problems. Explore the damage and see if you can find any way to help out the community. The shake had taken everyone by surprise. Olokun had been training in the field just outside of town. He froze in place when the training dummies started falling over, and everyone there was looking around with confusion. From the town there came a few rumbles and crashes and then the screams started.
Oly wasted no time in rushing for the town. His mind was flashing back to that child he had once saved from being crushed by an overhang. Many of the buildings there were old and needed repairs. Something else must have fallen due to the tremors! Someone could be hurt!
The street was already filled with people who had rushed from their homes if they could. He could see some trying to clear areas of rubble already. One of the shops had the whole front cave, and one frantic woman was clawing at the resulting rubble.
When she noticed Oly, she waved and called out, "My father was inside! Please!"

The shake had woken Mina from a dead sleep. Between her nightly excursions and work with the Ranch she'd taken to sleeping in the daylight hours. When she was knocked out her bed onto the floor and quickly forced to cover her head against being hit by falling objects she knew something really bad was happening.
Foregoing her mask, Mina had slipped into a simple dress and ran out into the hall. Some inn goers were hunkered down, doing their best to cope, but others were running past to try and get out of the still shaking building. She followed on their heels, bare feet pounding against the well worn boards until she was in the street. Mina had barely made it out before the upper floor - her room included - collapsed.
Her heart dropped into her chest, but there was only a moment to panic. She wanted to be a hero, right? Wasn't this her moment then? So then why was her heart beating so fast and tears gathering in her eyes?
You have to move! You gotta get going for them!
Strengthening her resolve, Mina brushed past the crowd and saw a familiar form. She very nearly raised a hand to call out to him, but...well, he knew her under another name so....
Instead of saying his name, she approached the pair as just 'another concerned citizen'. "Do you knew roughly where he was? Was he in the back or more toward the front?"

Oly got right to work, carefully lifting each piece of rubble to make sure he wouldn't cause the pile to shift. He was looking up constantly as well, watching to make sure the rest of the building wasn't about to come down as well.
A new voice prickled at the back of his mind and made his head turn to look. Was it-?! Oh, no. Well..... Maybe? He'd only seen a certain someone in the dark of night with only the moon and a few torches to light her features. This could have been. Now wasn't the time though! She was asking the proper questions at least.
The woman seemed to calm just a hair when she realized there were actually others stopping to help her out. With grateful eyes, she turned to the Hapuna and shook her head. "I.. I'm not sure. We were toward the back when the quaking started. I ran out here to see what was going on.. and then everything fell. He doesn't move as well as he used to.."
Oly glanced over again. Hopefully the missing man had stuck to the back of the building. "His chances are good if he was back there," he said, trying to be encouraging to the terrified woman. "It looks like it's the front that got the worst of it." He looked to the newcomer and nodded. "Let's get over this mess and look further back. Just watch your head. The rest of this place probably isn't all that stable."

Oh good, he didn't recognize her! That was one worry taken from her, at least. Mina lifted the hem of her nightdress and tore a length of cloth off to serve as a hairtie. Instead of her usual highponytail she went for a bun, just to make sure none of her hair got in the way for what she knew would be some hard work.
Once she had that settled, Mina moved closer to the woman and put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "We'll get him out." She couldn't say in what state he would be in; she didn't want to lie. Still, they would make sure this place wasn't his tomb.
Mina started to gingerly climb through the path that Oly had already started making. An added advantage to being a Hapuna was that her skin was always smooth, like a fine layer of mucus to keep her cool, and that made slipping into tight spaces all the easier. Still, she was careful and took her time, even going so far as to pushing a piece up so that he could maneuver around her and keep up with his work.

The trembling woman nodded and stepped back to stay out of the way. The least she could do was help keep an eye on the stability of the remaining building while the others worked.
Oly continued at his slow but steady pace, pleased that he and his companion seemed to be able to work together so fluidly. It certainly made clearing the way that much easier than if he had been on his own. It made him want to move faster; but that lead to grabbing the wrong stone. He yelped and pushed back on the section of stones as it shifted toward him. A shaky breath was released, and he looked to his companion apologetically. "Can you get around me before I drop this? If another shake comes through it's just gonna fall anyway."

Mina wasted no time in moving closer to Oly and pushing up on the stones as well. Since her grip was slicker than his own, and with far less strength, she had to angle her shoulder instead. Her feet slid on the slick wood beneath her, even more so when what was left of the floor boards started to shift and she gave a huff.
Looking up at him, Mina's expression was torn. If she left him he might get caught up in the rubble himself, or they all could, but...if she didn't then anyone trapped inside would be at an even higher risk. So, with a slow exhaled, Mina nodded. "Just be careful." The Hapuna ducked and used her smaller stature to slip around him further into the building.
"Hello?" Mina called out, "If you can hear me let me know!" A groan a little further to the right caught her ear and she started pulling herself closer.

Once the woman was well clear of the area, Oly jumped out of the way and let the stones fall where he had just been standing. Thankfully, only that section crumbled while the rest remained in place. Still, it was time to move on to a different section.
His head perked at the groan. It was weak, but loud enough to be heard! That had to be a good sign. Further along, he heard a bit of rubble shifting and winced at the images that the sound tried to force into his mind. "We're coming, sir. Try to keep still." He followed close behind Mina and let her lead the way while he watched their surroundings for any wobbly walls.

The further she got into the ruined building the more Mina cursed herself for not thinking to grab shoes. Her feet were naturally slippery, more so now that they were on uneven terrain and she could feel bits of jagged rock cutting into her toes. Her night dress wasn't much better, but at the very least if it tore she knew she could move around in the nude.
She didn't want to, but she could.
Another noise caught her ear and Mina could just make out a form trying to shift a bit ahead of her. "Stop! Don't move-"
"I-I-I know what he said I just..." He groaned, but blessedly kept still. "It's hard to breath like this..."
And she could imagine why! A heavy slab of stone was pressing down on the man's chest and while Mina couldn't see his legs because of it she could only imagine the pain. At least he was conscious.

Oly tensed up and suppressed a growl of frustration. It wouldn't do any good to snarl at the man for moving. At least he didn't seem to be panicking. Small blessings and all that.
"We'll get you, sir. Don't move." He dropped to one knee to peer into where the man was pinned. "Looks like it's all one piece. We should be able to lift the stone enough for him to slip out, but he might need help moving. I hold while you pull?" Once they got the stone up, he was pretty sure he could at least hold it in place long enough for Mina to pull the guy free. He brushed his hands over his shirt to make sure they were dry and made sure he had a good grip. "Say when." He looked to Mina and braced himself for her to be ready.

While Oly did his best to inspect the area, Mina bent down to get closer to the man and give his hand a squeeze. "We've got you; don't worry." As uncertain as she was, the teenager gave him what she hoped was a confident smile and it was validating to see the trust he placed in them. When he looked up at her he nodded which gave her the strength to gussy up her nerves. This was going to be tough, but they had it! They had to get this man out!
She slipped her arms around his in such a way so that he could grab onto her as well. While she didn't expect this poor man to do any pulling, she hoped he could at least keep his digits away from any excess debris that might fall. When Mina was as stable as she was going to get, she took a deep breath. "On three."

Silently thankful for the training he had been putting himself through lately, Oly sent a quick prayer to the heavens as they counted down. Three! He heaved up with a grunt of effort. It was tempting to try lifting as high as he could, but that would only strain him further and risk knocking other stones over. Just enough room was needed to allow the man to slip out. "I got it. Go," he huffed out.
By then, the woman had noticed their attention and had come in after them. She yelped with fright at the view, and nearly collapsed with relief as he was pulled clear of the damage. "Oh gods, thank you!" She restrained herself long enough to make sure her father was free before she ran forward and dropped next to him to fret over his condition. "Papa! Are you okay, papa?"

Mina was already starting to tug before Oly even had the slab all the way off him. She knew it was putting more strain on the poor man's legs than was necessary, but she was also afraid that if she didn't start early that something would happen and Oly would have to drop it. The last thing she wanted was for them to be the reason he didn't make it out after all of this.
His face was contorted in pain now that circulation was starting to come back to his limbs, but when Mina saw him move his legs on impulse she knew he'd be fine. Bruised surely, maybe even with a few broken bones, but that would heal. She turned her head toward the cry, letting a frazzled little smile slip by as she moved out of the way.
The older man reached for his daughter and groaned. Despite his pain, relief radiated off of him. "Think I popped a few ribs, but I've had worse." He tried to chuckle, then halted on a hiss. When it had settled he opened his eyes again, this time turning from his daughter toward Mina and Oly. "Thank you...thank you so much."

The stone slab dropped with a sharp thud as Oly jumped back to keep his toes clear. With a sigh and a shake of his arms, he turned toward the others and felt a grin of relief and pride rise. "You're welcome. I'm glad we could help."
He turned to Mina with a nod. "You were pretty great there. There's gonna be more needing help if you wouldn't mind sticking around." Having someone capable to work with would certainly be a comfort. Speaking of comfort though, "Is your place nearby? You should get some shoes on."

Mina couldn't help the soft smile that filled her features. She waved off their thanks and was happy to see the father leaning into his daughter's hug. It made her miss her own family, even if they had fought more than embraced before she left.
Turning back to Oly, she cleared her throat and rocked back on the balls of her feet. "About that...one of the buildings that collapsed? That was the inn I was staying in. Everything I had was in there." Later she would try to go back for her whip, at least, but she doubted any of her clothing was going to be of much count after all this.
Looking down at her stained night dress, Mina couldn't help wincing. It was a mess, and she wanted to whine about the state she was in, but...well, a man had almost died. That put things into perspective. When she looked back up it was with a fake smile. "I'll get it sorted though. I'm sure someone has a pair I can borrow if I promise to help, right?"
And hopefully the good people around her were just that; good.
