Things may be peaceful in Tendaji these days, but that doesn't mean that trouble doesn't suddenly appear out of nowhere. In fact, you just happen to stumble upon trouble and must figure out the best way to step in and help (or not, if you're more of the troublemaker type).
[ This is a roll and react event. So roll the dice and react to the prompt below depending on your number. If you're RPing with more than one person, have one person roll and all players react. ]
11 - 15: Flood One late-summer storm has caused the rivers to swell, and increased the risk of someone or something getting swept away. You happen to be in the right place at the right time to catch sight of a thing bobbing in the waters. What is it and how will you help? The air had been strangely heavy as Zuribali traveled to the port with her mother, Hildaclea. Of course, by the time they reached the city's edge, Zuri insisted on walking a bit separately from her mother. She adored her Mame to be sure, but By. The. Gods! the woman didn't have a lick of fashion sense. It was downright embarrassing to be in her fine dress while her Elarian mother strolled in her scruffy leathers. They weren't living in the forest, for goodness sake! That was how she found herself alone when the waters came. She had taken shelter from the sudden downpour from the sky in a gazebo with a few others with the expectation that the rains would only last a few minutes. Instead, the rain kept falling. The others braved the rain to head to their homes, but Zuri was stubbornly waiting despite the rising water. When the water began lapping at her feet, she climbed up onto one of the benches and felt her heart stir with concern. Surely the rain would end soon! Where was her mother?

Another day, another mess. Valek yawned as he watched the rising waters. The hybrid had been out and about in the port city on business when the skies suddenly turned gray and decided to let loose. If he had been in Sulburi he would have simply walked through the streets and enjoyed the feeling of a refreshing rain out in the desert but apparently the port city had already received too much rain as of late and so the swollen river decided that today would be the day it spilled out into the city streets. It would be easy enough to walk to the higher streets of the city where the waters wouldn’t touch, but it was also too boring if he simply sat back and let others panic around him. Well for the most part. Valek smirked as he watched a bit of chaos before catching sight of something bobbing in the water in the distance. While he was certain that the rains were lessening, the waters not rising as quickly now there was still some danger for anything in the lower area of the city by the river’s edge.
“Oh little perzi.” Valek let out a soft sigh before leaving his perch to go wading through the waters after the pitiful creature. Its gray body with tealish crystals almost blended in with the water if it wasn’t for the yowls that Valek had heard. He had taken his tunic off, wrapping the perzi into it, and it was only after wading a bit further in to try and find a safe space for the cat that he noticed something else that was odd. “A bit far out, aren’t you?” Valek mused as he appeared from the waters, his leggings soaking wet as he climbed into the gazebo and perched on the railing surrounding it. “Guess you weren’t the only silly kitty out in this mess, buddy.” He teased as he scritched the perzi’s chin and glanced back towards the strange hybrid girl.

Zuri scanned through the rain hard, trying to find her mother to save her; or at least suffer with her. She hugged her arms around herself against the chilling sight of the rising waters. This was Oba! Of all days, why did it have to flood today? The city was just as prepared for a flood as she was.. which was not at all. It would be a while before the waters settled back down. She didn't notice anyone approaching, and the voice made her jump a little. A guy about her age and a perzi? Those eyes... Yaeli? "Excuse me?" she huffed with a stare. "I most certainly am not a 'kitty' young man. This is definitely a mess though." She glared down at the water covering the bottom of the gazebo, and then back up to her new company. He had been walking through this?

"Well, she certainly made herself clear." Teased Valek as he pet the perzi again, his expression gleaming with amusement as he glanced up towards the hybrid girl. "Nothing wrong with being a kitten. They're rather adorable when they're not being fussy." Definitely was prickly like a feline in the water. Even her attitude about the water seemed to remind him of the perzi cuddled in his arms. Valek let out a low whistle as he noticed the rising waters and the girl's attire. Would be a shame for that to get wet and ruined, wouldn't it? Valek debated teasing her before saving it for later since he had the feeling this girl would be a fun one to get reactions from.
"At least it's not so unbearably hot right now." Mused Valek, not even bothered by the rising waters. The temperature was like a warm bath, a bit awkward but not entirely awful for the hybrid when he compared it to the other scenarios and environments he had endured in the past year. "Looks like the water isn't rising as quickly now if you need to get home. Do you need help getting out of here?" He tilted his head thoughtfully as he held onto the perzi, debating something as he waited for her response.

"That is a fitting description for a kitten, yes, but not for me, thank you very much." With another sharp huff, Zuri raised her chin and looked out to the flooded street. Lighter things like plants and clothes were being washed away with the rushing water. None of that mattered to her though. She just needed to stay dry. Of course, that was what had her trapped her now with this.. guy. "The humidity is unbearable," she grumbled in reply, uncertain if he would actually be able to hear her over the rain. Her hair was going to frizz out of control if it hadn't already. That was going to be a mess to fix later. What if she couldn't get out before anyone else saw her either? How humiliating... Then again.. She glanced over to the other hybrid and pressed her lips. "If the water is indeed slowing down, I just need to wait a little longer for it to start going back down." It was a dismissal... but not completely. She wasn't sure how long the water would take to drop down enough. Her mother would surely be along soon.. but did she want to be seen getting carried around by her either?! "Besides, I don't live here. I'm only visiting with my mother. You can't get me all the way home."

"What? Not fond of being called adorable?" Teased Valek with a chuckle as he followed the hybrid's gaze towards the flooded street. For him it wasn't such an issue, especially since he was experienced with climbing onto the upper levels and racing across rooftops. However.....the idea of the pampered lady next to him doing similar feats did not really seem to fit which was a problem in this particular scenario.
"Ah, yes. The humidity is definitely the problem today." Replied Valek under his breath with some amusement, the young man having no issues in stirring more irritation from the lady next to him. He rubbed the perzi's chin as he spoke, the creature's purring bringing a small smile from him despite his sassy responses to the situation. It was rare to see a gentle expression from the hybrid, especially when he was much more fond of his crooked grins and rude responses. He did so enjoy getting reactions from others and breaking forms of etiquette so expected in Oban society.
"Slowing down does not mean it is completely going away, milady." Valek finally admitted as he glanced back towards the other hybrid with a quirked eyebrow. "You would rather wait and risk the rains coming back even harder than before instead of getting a little wet?" His silver gaze seemingly rolled at the thought before he looked back around them once more, the falling patter of rain still going even as they spoke. "I can at least get you to higher ground. Where are you staying at the moment? Surely you aren't camping under the stars while visiting the city."

Zuri's lips pressed again as she pointedly kept from looking back at the young man. He sure liked pushing things... "No, I am not fond of it," she clarified. Honestly, what was so amusing about the situation? She had standards! She inhaled sharply at the warning. Could it really start raining again before clearing up enough for her to get away? This was Oba! Flooding just did not happen! "Well, it is not as though I am in a rush to be anywhere else," she grumbled. As much as she wanted to get home, surely spending some more time in the protection of the gazebo would be better than tromping about in that mess. Surely everyone else would be hunkered up at home until things cleared up as well! Well, everyone else except this strange boy. Her cheeks flushed slightly at the idea of accepting his help. She was still torn between her desire to leave and her dignity. "No, I do not camp. This was supposed to simply be a day trip with my mother, so I do not have any accommodations for myself here." She glanced down at the water still lapping over the floor of the gazebo. Ugh. "What do you mean by higher ground? Is there an inn above this flooding?"

"Just like a prickly perzi." Teased Valek under his breath, his amusement obvious as he didn't even try to hide it from the prissy hybrid. He tilted his head back and forth while studying the girl, the only other movement the subtle brush of his fingers against the purring perzi's neck as he rubbed was was surely a favored spot for the familiar. Someone who was even willing to risk a flood getting worse instead of going out to higher ground? Was it really that horrible a thing to get just a little wet? Valek's gaze slipped down to his own soaked clothing, the hybrid giving a slight shrug as he looked up at the next round of questions coming his way.
"I see." He pursed his lips before nodding. "There's an inn in the upper districts that should be nice and dry for you. It's a nice one where mostly nobles and rich merchants stay which seems right up your alley, correct?" She definitely had the air of either that was for certain. Valek shifted slightly as he glanced out towards the rains, the rising waters making him worry. "I mean I could just leave you here to test your luck if the rains keep going or we could leave together now so that you can get to safety with help." He offered one last time as he looked back towards the girl.
"If you're so concerned with a little bit of water nipping at your legs then you can hold this little one while I carry you both to safety." That most definitely would cost a meal or something though, not that Valek would push for that now unless the waters started to swell up even more quickly around them. Even though the rain wasn't a complete downpour like before there was still rain coming down and he was certain that the flooding wasn't completely finished yet. "What's the worst that happens? I have a sore back and you just have to endure my company for a bit through dinner later or something? Better than risking getting swept away and worrying your mother, right?"

A small snort of irritation slipped out and sent a blush to her cheeks. How unladylike... Just what she needed to add to her already disheveled image. It was a good thing that this stranger was the only one around. Too bad he didn't come with a boat. Zuri's lips pressed firmly with indecision. If the water was really going to keep rising, it would be even more difficult to leave later. It certainly didn't seem to be going down, either. Her cheeks burned hotter as the reality sank in. As bad as it was now, it would be worse if she lingered; and this scruffy fellow was her only aid for the time being. After a long moment, she stiffened her jaw and pushed away from the railing. "It seems I have little choice," she finally relented. "Carrying me will not be necessary. You just focus on that perzi." She slipped off her shoes and stockings and gave the water one more reluctant look before slowly lowering her feet into the muddy river. Her nose wrinkled sharply as she bundled her skirt up as much as she could, though a couple inches of the fabric were sacrificed to the water to protect her modesty. Too much higher and she might just end up carrying a perzi... Walking carefully, she looked back up at Valek impatiently once she was out of the gazebo's protection. "Well? Lead the way."

Ah, at least a blush showed that she could be cute. Valek chuckled softly as he shifted the perzi in his arms, the feline stretching out its paws as it held onto the hybrid. "Alright, if you insist." He replied with a smirk at her decision before commenting to the feline. "It's alright, buddy. I would carry you across the whole city if necessary, the lady doesn't know what she's missing out on." And that could be said for both her avoiding him and for not getting to cuddle such a cute little creature. Valek though appreciated the pride, it was truly amusing to ruffle this one especially as she finally waded into the waters. To think that she would rather risk her skirts than to allow him to carry her! Better for my back as is. He joked quietly before the impatient look had him moving forward into the water, the hybrid not even bothered by the dampness of his own leggings.
"Alright, alright." He gave a playful nod of his head, almost a mocking bow, before starting forward. "If your skirts start dragging you down too much then I have a good knife for cutting away useless material." Valek offered after a moment, glancing over his shoulder towards the young lady as he splashed through the flooded streets towards higher ground. The rain was still quietly coming down, but he just hoped it wouldn't get worse while they worked their way towards the upper district. If another downpour happened...well he would deal with it then. There were several places that they could climb to and wait out the storm that was much better than the little gazebo he had dragged her away from.

Zuri clicked her tongue as Valek schmoozed up the perzi. Absolutely silly. She wasn't going to make this already dreadful situation worse by getting carried around like an infant! She certainly didn't need some scoundrel taking the chance to feel her up either! Cut her dress?! Zuri gave the man a good hard scowl. "Don't you harm one thread on this dress. I can find someone to clean it, I'm sure, but I wouldn't be able to show my face at the shop again if I brought it in all cut up." The very idea! Valek just had no sense at all! She had been too busy glaring to notice the slight splashing floating her way in the flood. All she knew was that there was suddenly an extra weight on her bunched up skirts. She looked down with confusion. A small ward had gotten caught up in the flood and was gratefully clinging to the cloth it had been lucky enough to be pushed against. Zuri blinked before she let out a shriek and jumped back to get away. Between the high waters and the soaked dress, she only managed to topple backward and slip completely under the water. It wasn't that deep, but now she was in a tizzy with her dress weighing her down and the water flow pushing her back. "Help!" she shrieked when she finally got her head above the surface again.

Valek simply chuckled at the protest. "I'll remember that if the waters suddenly rise. I guess as long as the dress is alright then the drowned corpse wouldn't matter." The hybrid shrugged his shoulders before continuing on, not even bothering to try to figure out the logic of ladies and protecting clothing that surely could be replaced. And of course the gods had to hear his words because the next thing Valek knew there was a shriek behind him followed by a series of splashing. "Oh for..."
Placing the perzi on the nearest safe surface, Valek gave it a quick pat before going after the stubborn woman. Splashing through the water, Valek reached out to grab the other hybrid and gave a firm tug to get her into his arms. The water current was only increasing the longer they stayed in the street, the rains still coming down around them, and rather than allowing the water to tug at her skirts the man simply took out his knife and sliced through the thick material until it floated away. "I'll buy you a new one. He managed as he lifted her in his arms, Valek pulling them out of the deeper water towards back where the perzi had been left. ' "Just suck it up, grab the perzi and I'll get us out of here." He commanded, not about to spend more time arguing with her while the waters were starting to rise again. So what if the skirts were gone and he could see a fair bit of leg? That didn't matter when it came to survival! Though was that....was that a ward floating along the current on a stray piece of driftwood now? Valek could only shake his head before making his way, splashing through the waters, and heading back to the perzi so that his companion could pick up the creature. Talk about a drenched mess of a trio!

She was drowning she was drowning she was drowning she was drowning!!!! The moment she was yanked upright, Zuri gasped for air and grabbed tight to Valek's shirt with one hand. "Thank you! Thank-" The other hand rose to push her matted curls back from her face- just in time to see the skirt being cut through. A pitiful whine slipped out, the woman just too tired from her near death experience to scream again. "Damned right you're getting me a new one," she grumbled angrily with some unladylike words slipping out as well. There was no way for her to explain the state of her skirts later... Scooped up in Valek's arms, Zuri was curled up tight with her fingers clutching the new hemline toward her knees. She fixed the perzi with a disgruntled stare. The perzi paid her attitude no mind and helped itself to jump onto her once the pair was close enough. It bumped its head against Valek's chin with appreciation and stuffed itself between Zuri's arms.

Oh, there was the appreciation. Valek scoffed at it though he had been nervous for a moment whenever he saw the other hybrid bobbing up and down in the water like that. The last thing he wanted was for an innocent person, no matter how snobby, to die on his watch like that and so he allowed her to cling to him despite her grumbles. "Pick a time and a date, I'll take you shopping." He promised as they continued along the flooded street.
A small smile crossed his lips at the bump from the perzi, Valek only shifting his arms to adjust to the extra weight as he continued along. As soon as they hit higher ground and there wasn't any chance of the hybrid getting swept away he would graciously dump her onto the ground so that she could get her bearings again. His tunic could be wrapped around her waist if she needed better covering for her ruined dress and Valek would gladly take his new perzi friend to a better home since he doubted the girl would want to adopt the creature...but if she did then perhaps they could talk about such a thing later.
