Take On The Beast

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

You've heard rumors of a local beast that has been causing trouble, always striking and darting away without a trace. Many have tried to capture it, but with no success. Now that fall is settling in, the community is distressed at the trouble being caused and has asked for your help in finding the beast and either relocating or finding away to get rid of it from the community.

[ A creature is terrorizing the community, but what is it and is it really such a problem? Use the fauna thread to pick out a local beast and tell us how your character found and if they remove or relocate it...or maybe even tame it as their own (not all fauna can be tamed). ]

Doesina 1

The days were stretching on and Doesina was finding less and less things to do while she waited for her cousin to do whatever it is she was doing with the Alkidike. After a month of waiting at the hybrid town where they'd last parted, the Elaria had wandered back towards Neued, finding a few individuals to pass the time with. Now she was heading back in the direction of the town, just in case, after months of waiting, Heike was there waiting for her. Doesina missed her family and was starting to have enough of traveling back and forth in unfamiliar territory. Things were becoming even more frustrating as she had settled into a traveling routine.

The day she over-heard a couple of Earthlings talking near a small village was one of the most exciting in a long time. Something was stealing the stock of food and small objects had also been going missing. They had accused the children at first, but searches of their bedrooms and houses had turned up nothing. The stolen items couldn't be found anywhere in the village. Now that harvest season was upon them, they were thinking about paying someone to take care of the problem for them, for it clearly was an animal. What kind, no one had been able to figure out. No one wanted to take the risk of figuring it out. Better to leave it to the professionals.

Peaking around the trunk of the tree she had been hiding from, watching the small group return to the village, Doesina decided she'd help these poor Earthlings with their problem. How bad of an animal could it really be if it was just snatching small items and food? A bigger animal would have attacked them directly.

Keeping her distance, the Elaria followed at a distance behind the men.

Teletta bid her best friend farewell for a little while, she took the Radaku into the city, she'd found a vet out of concern the pup might be hurt. She was used to raising animals herself as well but as unfamiliar as this one was she sought a more knowledgeable source. Once the Pup was cared for the receptionist told Teletta it would be around a few days before the pup could be retuned to her.

Teletta had explained how she'd come across the pup with poachers. he was alone now, and probably not be allowed back to his mom, but she had decided firmly to take him home. She knew she probably wasn't supposed to bring it home but the pup had no where to go. She promised the pup she'd be back and headed to the library to research more about the Radaku.

Once the pup was well enough Teletta and the hound took a trek south toward Neued. It was slow going as Teletta was doing her best to bond with the Radaku pup Doesina and she had rescued. Teletta would have to catch a ride back to make the airship back home.

Arriving in Neud, she looked at the pup who she sometimes let ride in her pack. "I'll think of a good name for you, promise." she said slowly reaching her hand out trying to pet it, only to get a bit of a snap back from the young pup. "yeah, too soon." Pulling her hand away slowly she didn't reprimand the pup. Teletta understood, the pup didn't like being touched that much yet, and may not.

Suddenly there was a bit of a commotion, some creature had been harassing the locals. Teletta could hear whispers being spread after the sounds rang out. Teletta looked around and saw a group of Men coming back into the town, and behind them peeking around a trunk was a familiar face. She'd run into her friend once again. Teletta gave Doesina a big wave as the men walked past the Yael native.

Doesina 2

It wasn't long after she had that thought that Doesina spied movement from the corner of her eye. With her mind so focused on possibly having to defend herself against a creature, she was naturally on high alert, all her highly trained senses at the ready for combat. So when she saw this movement, her instincts kicked in and she turned, dagger in hand and her feet set into a defensive posture, ready for anything that was about to jump her. But it was only Teletta.

"Don't sneak up on a Sister," the Elaria called over while laughing at herself, relaxing her stance. Twirling the dagger once so the sharp point faced down, she sheathed it back on her belt. She closed the distance between them, gently knocking on the top of the Yaeli's head. "I thought you were an animal coming after me!" Lowering her voice, Doesina looked in the direction of the men. "Are you following that rumor, too?" Of course she was. Teletta would never let an adventure slip by, either. Especially if it involved animals. For Doesina, her Quristine back home was enough for her. Not that she disliked animals. Quite the opposite. But having too many animals was a bit inconvenient when she loved exploring the world around her. At least a Quristine was practical. And could graze just about anywhere, relieving her of the need to carry an extra bag of food just for him.

The Radaku gave a soft growl at some of the passer's by, though it seemed to understand the glowing eyed earthling at least wouldn't let anyone else hurt him. The Radaku also recognized the large Elaria, having helped drive away the ones that kept him in a cage.

Teletta saw Doesina's expression change from defensive to more relaxed "Only me huh," She teased giving her own laugh, yeah she shouldn't have snuck up on the Elaria."We've got this little guy." She said pointing down by her feet.

though getting down to business, teletta gave a nod "I am, I thought I could help, my history with animals after all" Teletta gave a light chuckle "Though I also wanted to sight see." Teletta crossed her arms for a moment "Have you found anything?" she asked the more proficient wilderness expert

Doesina 3

Ignoring her friend for a moment, Doesina raised a hand to give a little wave at the Radaku youngling, smiling sweetly at it. She had no desire to pet it herself. It wasn't her it needed to bond with. She didn't want to risk ruining that budding friendship or distracting the little thing with her presence too closely.

"Yup!" the Elaria responded, eyes traveling back to Teletta. Not that anyone could really tell that her eyes were moving. She got into a mock fighting stance, turning her body a little sideways and raising her fists. "You small Earthlings are no match for us Sisters." Than she giggled and relaxed her body. "Nope. All I know is something is stealing food at the nearby village. The way they are going." She pointed at the backs of the men, turning to follow them after beckoning for the Yaeli to follow. "Can't be anything too big, if no one has seen it."

"Not even the slimmest of chances." came her response as she gave a pretend exasperated sigh. "I'd be defeated in an instant" which was actually probably true in this case, she wasn't super strong or anything, she was beast at animal handling, and her curiosity sometimes got her in trouble.

Giving a nod, "Let's find out what it is then" she said "there are some options from what I remember reading, let's try and lure it to us first." it would mostly be a test of intelligence for the creature. it could be quite smart having not been seen if it was larger.

She did love most of the animals around Juhar she'd been seeing, they were all so unique! But back to the task at hand "I've got some more food in my pack hopefully more enticing than the farm stores."

Doesina 4

Though she teased, it was one of the few things Doesina seemed to agree with her grandmother would. Not just because they were taller, but an Aishan spent most of her life training and studying for combat. How could an Earthling, who spent most of their childhood running around and playing games, really compare to a Sister? Not that she was looking down on Earthlings at all. Far from it. On the contrary, she was always jealous of their ability to decide what they wanted to do with their life. If they didn't want to spend hours on a form, they didn't have to. Doesina didn't mind training her body that way, but it wasn't something she enjoyed doing a lot of. She had the skills in various weapons that she'd need for life and that was good enough in her opinion. They weren't at war with anyone. The Trees weren't going to be ambushed and burned down if they weren't all in peak form. And while some Aishans did seem to be relaxing on it, her grandmother was not one of them.

The Elaria stood with her hand under her chin, cupping it wtih her fingers in thought. "I dunno. If you really wanted, you could probably be trained enough to give us some trouble." Than she dropped her hands and giggled, the image running through her head.

"Do you? Do you have anything really good? Let me see!" Leaning in closer, Doesina towered over the Yaeli and tried to get a peek inside the bag. It wasn't like this creature was terrorizing the village. They could afford to have a little fun on the side.

"With my height?" she gave a chuckle back then grinned "I could always show you how to ride a Quristine if you wanted to exchange lessons." With a return laugh Teletta dove into her side pack where she was keeping the food hearing a mild whine from the pup behind.

" I have some jerky, bread, and trail mix my parents made," the trail mix consisted of the dried nuts and berries from yael though so she wasn't sure how popular. it would be with the wildlife here nor if it was healthy for them but Teletta continued digging into her other pack. "and some of the pup's meat we could also use depending on the creature." she said pulling out the things she listed for doesina. She had a decent variety, something was bound to attract it's attention.

"We just need a good spot for an ambush."

Doesina 5

"Hey, why not?" the Elaria shrugged. "All you Earthlings are short to me and I'm short for a Sister." In fact, her grandmother was quite tall. One of the tallest she had ever seen. By comparison, she quite towered over Doesina, giving off a very intimidating presence to most who didn't know her well. Her mother, as well, wasn't too much shorter. Than there was Heike. It seemed Doesina very much had received the short genetics in her blood relations. Maybe aunt Kioko had been short. She could never ask her cousin about her. "But being short makes you harder to hit. I've met some very capable Earthling warriors. Even men." Which was still a strange concept for her to understand. A man would never be able to stand up to a fully trained Sister. Not unless he himself had Aishan blood.

"Those sound good." She looked them over with her large, pale eyes, pointing to one bag in particular. "Is that so your eyes stay glowy?" Another quite strange concept. Far as she could tell, Yaeli were the only ones with a feature like that. Though the Juahar Earthlings did shift colors with the moon, which had quite fascinated her in the beginning. So much so, she probably terrorized an entire town with her questions and exclamations about it.

Than she stopped and looked around, an expression of concentration on her face. This wasn't too similar to hunting. Though Jauhar didn't have a lot of places to hide, such as bushes or smaller trees to hide in the branches, it did have large trees with large trunks. She walked around, picking one out that wasn't too far away from the village's targeted storage of food. "There should be good. We should also be downwind from it, if it has a good sense of smell."

Learning how to protect herself might actually be important and Doesina would be an excellent teacher, she was a fully trained Aishian warrior after all despite her friendliness. Doesina did have a Qurstine, Teletta realized she should have clarified though she was pretty sure Doesina knew she didn't mean any offence she'd been friends for a while "I meant, I could show you some of the tricks from the performances," they weren't really useful but they were fun to do. It was pretty funny, even though Doesina was short for an Aishan Teletta was tall for an earthling and doesina was still taller than she was.

"Yeah," Teletta gave Doesina a nod "the parents said it was bad luck if I lost my eyes glow abroad," which seemed pretty silly when she said it aloud but she still did believe them in a sense, the food from yael did keep her eyes glowing. "But yeah the food has a specific set of minerals that keep my eyes glowing, since the specific composition is only found in Yael" though she had no idea what the combination was it was pretty unusual for most other earthlings.

Switching gears, Teletta followed Doesina as close as she could as Doesina went looking for a good spot to lay the trap. Teletta was impressed by the size of the trees as soon as she arrived they were incredible. Giving doesina a nod. That was pretty common when they had to gather wild stock to enter into the herd.

"So which food type should we try first? bit of everything?" she asked her friend.

Doesina 6

"Teach me some tricks, huh?" Doesina repeated, trying to measure the space from the tree to the shed holding the food. Wouldn't that be something. A performing Elaria. Though she did think it was about time they relaxed fully on all the strict training of younger Sisters. What were they preparing an army of warriors for anyway? The war was over. The peace treaty was holding. There was nothing left to fight. The older generation just had difficulty coming to terms with that. Like her grandmother.

Who Heike would fit in just fine with. Heike would be the granddaughter she never had. Doesina didn't mind training, but it wasn't something she enjoyed doing for hours every day.

"He's a bit big for tricks. You use the females, right?" Crouching down, she brushed at the dirt, doing something only she knew what. She looked back up at the eye comment, raising her own pink fingers to her own eyes. "I wonder why we Elaria don't glow. We eat the same things as you." Giggling, she went back to her preparations, making a nice little patch in the dirt. Not very deep. The Jauhar ground was far too hard to dig with your hands. Or even a shovel. "Yes! Bit of everything. We don't know what it is. Put it here and we can watch from behind the tree."

There defininetly had to be somethings Teletta could show her friend about show tricks. Though she wasn't sure how much would overlap with battle riding "I'll show you, it's fun!" she said seeing as Doesina was currently more focused. Teletta enjoyed performing with the Quirstine, but she'd been around them since she was little. Teletta gave a nod "yeah, we do the males tend to be used for herdbeasts and general mounts because of their strength." But Doesina probably knew most of that.

"That is a good question," Teletta pondered for a minute "Maybe because you were born from a tree?" The trees didn't glow in yael since they consumed the nutrients so it might just be a case of the difference in composition.

"you got it, she said placing a little bit of everything on the spot doesina instructed her to and went and hid beside her friend. She heard the little Radaku whine and Teletta pulled a tiny bit of meat out for the pup "Here you go." she said softly to the pup"hush now."

Teletta turned to Doesina, "Lets see what this creature is."

Doesina 7

The Elaria nodded, indeed only paying half attention to what Teletta was saying. She was in almost full concentration mode, using what skills she had learned back on Yael when hunting with her mother for meat to fill the table and hides to work with. "You Yaeli aren't the only ones with animals, you know. The does are much smaller and more delicate. I definitely can't ride one."

Doesina stood up then and walked over to the tree a short distance away, parking herself behind it with her head peeking out. Hoping the animal didn't see her and panic. Hoping her darker skin tone and hair would blend in well in the shadows and bark of the tree. "Maybe the air around Elzira is different, too. Her being special." Than she went quiet, as the Yaeli settled in to wait with her. It was fortunately a quiet area of the village, most of the local Shifters off at another part of the outskirts to look for clues. Which they were apparently having a hard time with. It thus didn't take long for a large lizard-creature to slowly scuttle out from a secret hiding place and go straight for the food.

How cute. No wonder they were having trouble finding it. It hardly looked dangerous at all.

"Oh I know," Teletta was still full o confidence for Doesina being able to ride one "I think you could do it, they are stronger than they look." she replied softly, Despite being delicate the quirstine were pretty sturdy and Doesina wasn't the largest of Elaria. She'd heard a lot of them just towered over earthlings but doesina was on the smaller side so that gave her friend a better chance.

"Maybe," she agreed. they hardly knew anything about the trees at all. Hearing some rustling Teletta silenced herself and the pup holding he breath from fear of startling whatever it might be. Teletta's eyes followed doesina's as the little lizard b-lined straight for the food.

it had the most adorable fringe and tail, it glowed! Teletta hadn't seen anything like it before, or maybe she had, in a book. was it a sitara? Holding steady the little lizard seemed to smell the air once it finished with it's fiid it came wandering fearlessly over to where Teletta and Doesina were hiding looking for more food.

Teletta slipped a bit more out of her pack and handed it to the lizard who seemed rather greatful for the snack. It nuzzled up to her as a pair of shifters came over

"Is that the monster?" one asked "we should kill it so it stops eatting the food" the other responded

Beginning to panic a bit Teletta blurted "I'll take him, he wont bother you anymore." How was she going to explain this? But the Sirtara seemed pretty friendly and clever, maybe he'd been someone else's pet before?

"Fine just get it out of here," said one of the shifters while the other seemed to look disappointed like he was hoping to make it a meal.
