Ergon didn't had many fond memories with his parents growing up. Any trips he'd taken had been business trips with his father, and his mother had rarely left the house. He didn't want his sons to grow up the same way.
He was letting Iryana lead the way through the woods while he brought up the rear so that the boys were safely between them. Well, that had been the plan. Of course, little boys tended to be rather lacking in discipline. "Eirex, how many times must I tell you to stay close?" he scolded, shaking his head with a look at his wife. "They get this from you, you know."

Eirex knew he was supposed to stay in line... but they were going on a real family trip! It would be just the four of them, no cousins, no random people taking up space... He laughed excitedly and rushed through the snow. It was warm enough to make the snow wet and heavy, but not enough to melt it completely. He wasn't sure it ever got warm enough for that!
He looked over his shoulder to his father with a giggle. Wordlessly, he ran close but immediately kept on going to bounce in in the snow on the other side of their little family convoy.

She looked back when she heard Ergon say something to one of their sons. Of course she wore a grin as she saw what he was doing. So long as he was within eye sight she didn't see the issue, honestly. But she knew her husband was a bit stricter with things than she was.
"It's not that bad. You married me so it's not a bad trait." Riya stuck her tongue out at him then glanced at her boys to give them a wink.
She did however look at Eirex with a soft smile. "Be careful, the snow can be slippery." Iriyana didn't want her son to slip and end up doing the splits. He might pull a muscle that way.

Reaghan watched his brother in-between making sure his feet were placed exactly where his mom stepped. He wanted his steps to be right inside her own. When he heard his mother speak to his father he looked up at her and laughed when he saw her stick out her tongue at him. Of course he grinned when she winked too.
He looked back at his dad still wearing the grin. Then he decided that the snow was a very good place to be! So out of line he went. To the left! With a few hops he made his own holes in the snow and excitedly looked back to see his own footsteps rather than those of his mothers.

Ergon held up his hands defensively with a smirk at Riya's reaction. "I didn't say it was bad, per say. ..They definitely got it from you though." He would have preferred the boys stay in a nice, safe little line, but he knew that was a tall order unless he really started barking at them. They did try when they could focus though.
Ah, but Riya was still a mother at heart. He looked over at the warning and shook his head. It really was difficult to keep a straight face when the boys were having so much fun. Scraped knees and bruises were a natural part of childhood, but it was still hard to let his own boys go through mistakes and slips. "Just be extra careful if you see any girls out there," he teased, smirking at Iryana knowingly. They were definitely too young for that, but it would happen eventually...

Eirex peeked over at his parents with amusement. "I will not be tamed!" he hollered out triumphantly. He had overheard it at school once and it had become one of his favorite things to say when he knew he was safe enough to stretch the limits with his parents. With the adults smiling like they were, the ease of the moment was palpable and contagious.
He giggled and nodded at Ergon's warning. He wasn't entirely sure what his father meant, but surely it was something funny if it was making their father grin like that. With another laugh he turned to chase after his twin. He followed the footsteps exactly as Reaghan had been following Riya's earlier, and looked up with a grin. "How much further do you think we're going?

"They did get it from me." Riya agreed on that one. She was the one who was more unruly and did things without thinking. Not really a bad thing but out of the two of them Iriyana was the wild one.
Her attention went to the boys, smiling as they went into the snow one after the other. At least they were having fun. She loved seeing them smile and be so carefree. Of course she caught her husbands words and she looked over at him again, though this time she narrowed her eyes at him in a fake glare.
"You watch it mister, or this girl will throw snow at you." She pointed a warning finger at him, again playfully. Riya knew exactly what he was referring to. Still, the thought of her boys getting older and meeting girls did make her wrinkle her nose a bit. She wasn't too thrilled about the idea.

He looked back at his dad and grinned again before nodding his head. He wasn't sure what his dad meant but he wasn't worried since he didn't think there would be any girls out here anyways. Reaghan looked at his brother as he started to follow along behind him and he moved a bit faster as a squeal of laughter left him. When Eirex asked him how much farther they were going he turned to look over his shoulder with a small shrug. "Dunno. Not sure where we're going." If it had been said then he hadn't been paying attention. As he spoke he didn't watch where he was going or how far they were getting from their parents.

Ergon smirked playfully at Riya's reaction. "Especially girls who like playing in the snow." He had never expected to fall for such a free spirit as Iryana when he had been younger, but here they were. He knew that no one could have possibly made him happier, either.
His gaze went back to the boys, but only saw the sets of eager tracks. He stiffened up instantly when he realized the pair had slipped off. "It was two seconds," he grumbled. "Boys, come on back," he called out as he stepped toward the tracks that were leading into the trees.

With a skip and a hop, Eirex left his brother's footsteps and hurried to keep up with his twin. Paying little attention to the distance they were crossing, he was surprised to see the tree line break into a wide clearing. He gasped with delight and pointed. "Look!"
It was a shallow valley with a small lake cutting across the middle. More like a lake with a couple hills, but it was immense to the child, and gorgeous with the damp snow glittering in the sunlight.
It was also perfect for sliding around!
His ears twitched when he heard Ergon, but he couldn't understand the words. "This way, father!" he called back. Without hesitation, he took a running leap and slid on his belly along the ground. He slid further than he had been expecting and hesitated when his hands slipped on ice instead of ground when he tried to stand. Still, he let out a laugh. "It's icy," he called out as his only warning to Reaghan. Surely it being covered in ice meant it was still fine to be out on!

She continued to keep her playful glare up. "Uh huh. I'll find some mud later then." Riya wasn't the typical lady she knew Ergon and his family were used to. She had no problems fighting or getting her hands dirty. Though she had gotten a little better as she'd gotten older, mostly so his parents would approve of her.
When she also looked and noticed the boys had gotten too far she shook her head with a slight fondness. "Boys. Too far." Since she had been the one leading she had to back track a little before she reached their footsteps. Iriyana ended up following behind her husband. She heard Eirex call out and gave a soft sigh. "Come back this way sweethearts." She tried again to get their attention.

When his brother got up beside him to keep up he laughed and tried to go faster. It was difficult with how deep the snow was. It was past his ankles which meant doing high steps to avoid dragging through it. When they broke through the trees, still not noticing how far they were getting, he grinned. "Cool!" Before he could even form the thought Eirex was sliding down on his belly. Reaghan waited until he was down, laughing the entire time, before he took his turn. He tried to get farther out than his twin though so he ran as fast and hard as he could before going on his belly. "Yippee!!" Reaghan managed to make it a few feet past his brother and he grinned. "Haha! I win!" Not that there was a prize. When he went to get up and slipped he giggled but managed to slowly get up to his knees and push with his hands so he could slide farther. "We should have brought our ice skates."

Ergon picked up his pace. Something had caught the attention of his sons enough to keep them from coming back. "If they keep this up, I'm pulling out the leashes," he said with a mostly-teasing glance over his shoulder. He was working hard to not be too strict with his boys, but he had his limits. They were still young and had much to learn. Clearly, they also had more discipline to develop as well.
At least they were leaving clear tracks. Once he was around one of the last trees, he spotted the boys out on the ice. A prickle of a memory tried to scratch at the back of his mind, but he shoved it away. "Eirex. Reaghan. Come back to us," he called firmly. He nearly stopped so that the boys would have to come further to him, but his legs kept going in response to the prickling at his neck.

Eirex gasped with delight as he watched his brother slide right on by. "Just this time. I bet I can get farther next time," he taunted, carefully climbing to his feet. This was officially a challenge, and he toddled carefully along the slick surface. He was definitely going to pass his brother this next run! "We'll bring the skates next time!"
His parents' voices were at the back of his mind until their names were called so firmly. He couldn't help a slight flinch with a guilty look toward his parents emerging from the trees. "Sorry," he murmured half-heartedly. He yelped with a laugh when he slipped and landed on his butt. He could only be so sorry when it was so much fun. "Can we eat here and slide some more after? Please?"

Riya gave Ergon a snort as he mentioned the leashes. They had used them when the boys were younger because they had too much energy and going anywhere with the pair of them was like trying to heard Perzi kittens. They simply hadn't listened. "I wouldn't blame you." The boys would hate it if they used leashes again.
When they reached a point that she could see the boys she frowned a little. They had gone out onto ice. "Boys, come back this way please." Iriyana didn't have the same nagging feeling her husband did but she didn't cease her approach either. Mostly because her mother intuition was telling her it wasn't safe for them. Neither she nor Ergon had confirmed the ice to be stable enough to skate on.
"Reaghan, that's far enough." She called out to him since he seemed to be pushing himself out father. Her gaze switched to Eirex as he seemed to finally hear their words she offered him a soft smile, which turned into a stifled giggle when she saw him slip. Since he didn't cry out or say ouch then she knew he was fine. "This isn't where we were going sweetheart. We will do fun things when we actually get to our destination."
