As soon as he’d gotten back to Destiny City, Belmont powered down, back in the nice, dry clothes he’d been wearing before he’d come out. He’d kept his pack on the floor so he could put it away when he got home, but he immediately groaned.
“Oh, yeah. Ow. That fall sucked. I’m going to be feeling that tomorrow. I might need some ice cream with that coffee.”
Or maybe skip the coffee altogether, he could probably just go home and sleep.
He turned to her. “You want to grab something on the way home? You did really good today, thank you for helping me out. I’m really excited to go back. And to see yours.”

Sadie was so happy to no longer be in wet boots, she honestly could have cried. “It really sucked! Be–ah, Aiden, next time you need to make sure you don’t hit anything that’ll make the floor crumble, okay? Can we make a deal on that?” She was sore, and she was tired but, she was still…really kind of excited. There was a joy in her that she hadn’t felt before, and something about going to his wonder and training with her…honestly? She felt kind of brave...which was a good feeling all things considered.
“I’d be happy to walk towards wherever we can obtain ice cream, and if it’s not after where I’ll turn off to go home, I’ll be even more than happy to stop with you. I want to see mine too, like…what if it’s as fun! Do you think we can go sometime soon, or should we wait a little bit? When can we go back to yours, I need to get us water shoes to use in that room until we can figure out where the drain is…and why it flooded in the first place.”
Her mind was already busy, and the idea of watching youtube videos on flooding basements and how to fix them was firmly in her mind and…she actually wanted to figure out how to do ********. Aiden. I seriously need to know that meeting you has been the best thing ever. And I’m so glad you scared me that day.”

Aiden laughed and shook his head. “I’m still sorry for scaring you! I really didn’t mean to. I’m glad we went to talk afterwards. I’m really glad you were willing to give me a chance. Truth be told, I haven’t really felt like I was doing my best with any of this. I kinda felt like I was floundering. You know, letting everyone down. It was kind of the kick in the butt I needed to get back into the groove of things.”
He wasn’t perfect, he still had a long way to go. He wasn’t stronger.
He wasn’t dead though, so that was something good at least. He was on the right track.
“It takes me a little while to work up the strength to go again, I haven’t really timed it. Maybe a week or two?” Maybe he could ask around, he just knew he didn’t want to exert himself too much and wind up passed out somewhere.

“Well, then we’ll just go to mine, how about next week? I think we both need a little time to heal our bruises from falling through the floor, but I want another adventure…and soon! Besides, I have to find this ring you told me about, so that’s important, and we can have more sandwiches which is also important. I’ve already decided that I’m going to start watching some youtubes to see if we can figure out how to get rid of the flooding in that room, it really seems like it’ll be a great place to train in.”
She began walking, linking her hands behind her head as she did. “I was really about to give it all up as a bad joke and then I met you and now…I’m really excited about being who I am…what I am. It’s like you gave me a new perspective on the whole thing, and I’m really glad for it…so thank you, Aiden...see, I do know your name. For some reason though, your other one is just easier to say. It’s…familiar, or something. I don’t know. I like it though.”

Aiden considered this and nodded. “That sounds like a good plan to me. Gives me a little time to shop around and find some good boots. So the next time we wind up with some water, we won’t have any excuse to stop what we’re working on.”
He was in a good mood as he walked next to her, keeping up pace easily.
“I’m glad I met you, too. I’m proud of you for taking this all so seriously. I know it sounds wild, but you’ve been a really good sport about all of it. I’ll have to do some research too, just to make sure. I’m really excited about all of this. I guess I let myself get stagnant for a while, but. I’m not going to let that happen again. The only direction I’m going to be moving in is forward, and you’re coming with me.”

“And I’m coming with you. Damn right I’m coming with you.” Sadie couldn’t keep the stupid, satisfied smile off of her face as she walked. It was so nice to not be alone, especially when it was with something that was hard to understand. And now maybe she’d be able to do some real patrolling too, get out there and find people to help, find people to fight and just…get stronger.
And they would, the two of them would move forward together and it would be wonderful. She couldn’t quite wait to see where the road took the both of them.
