Prompt 11: Heatwaves
An unfortunate dry spell has come over Destiny City, and a heat wave has made it all but unbearable. The heatwave is only projected to last for a week but it’s been rough. Plants are wilting, people are wilting. The city is experiencing blackouts, which isn’t helping. Thankfully, the reservoir is always open. Just, crowded. It might just be the worst part of the summer. People are passing out regularly, and the hospitals are getting too many admissions to keep up with. It’s probably just the heat and not anyone up to anything nefarious, right? Better stay hydrated and try to keep cool, and maybe avoid everyone in weird costumes, just in case.
Lucia was feeling so sluggish the heat was absolutely unbearable. Even with the Air conditioner blasting she was still dying from the heat. She debated jumping into her families pool but it was late at night and her parents were very clearly about night time swimming being a no go with no room for argument. They believed it was too dangerous to swim alone at night, if only she could tell them she usually spent her nights doing activities far more dangerous than swimming. Or then again they'd probably freak out more and demand she give up her hensin pen and quiet being Super Sailor Ara. That was when a thought struck her. Ara, as her senshi form she could sneak out and go somewhere to cool off, literally. She figured the city reservoir would be as good a place as any. The area was basically a man made beach and was bound to be deserted at this hour.
The teen girl crept on silent feet down her stairs to see where her parents were, her mother and father were both seated in the den near and AC unit fanning themselves and with glasses of ice tea in their hands. She could just make out there conversation from her vantage as the two complained about the unusual heat wave that had plagued the city for a while. Even rich as her family was there was only so much they could do about the heat. It made her feel bad for the people less well off. She worried for the safety of homeless people or people who couldn't afford AC how would they survive in this heat, as if Destiny City wasn't already a hostile enough place for normal people.
Unfortunately there wasn't much she could personally do about that at least not right now. She instead she focused on her own plan. She snuck back upstairs and used some of her pillows and stuffed animals to form a fascimily of herself under her covers and quickly snuck out her window. She had done this song and dance countless time and she just thankful that her parents didn't feel the need to check on her as she was sleeping too often especially as she had gotten older.
Once she had cleared a good distance from her home she pulled out her Henshin pen and called out the transformation phrase she was so familiar with. "Ara Constellation Power Make Up!" She cried as ribbons of light encircled her and transformed her into Super Sailor Ara, the Chibi Senshi of Illumination. With her Sailor powers she was able to quickly leap from building to building crossing the city in no time. She had taken note of the wilted and dead plants and the poor panting animals. It seemed humans were not the only ones suffering the heat. She hoped whatever caused this would pass soon for everyone's sake. Soon enough she made it to the lake and she quickly dipped her toes into the water not even caring that she was getting her gold sandals wet. The cool water felt like heaven in the heat.
