Illyria's whiskers were twitching. She was currently scanning the edge of the foliage from her perch on Eleonora's shoulders and mentally plotting where a likely hiding spot would be for the geocache she was trying to locate. Without any hints at common signs of disturbance Illyria huffed a sigh before summoning a gps detector from her subspace pocket. She glanced at the screen and the coordinates that had marked the cache's approximate location before tapping Ele gently, "I'm getting the sense that we are in the right place according to these coordinates that were given but even with my eyesight I'm not seeing any visible cues on where this cache might be exactly."

She mewed contemplatively as her eyes swept the foliage line once more, "I just don't get it."

She made a small calculation on the gps unit before dismissing it back into subspace and gently began to climb over the senshi of heat in order to get closer to the ground. Why was this cache being so difficult?

“Is it something that could have been buried? Or maybe hidden in one of the holes in the tree.” With it being dark out, save for the fireflies lingering around them, Eleonora wasn’t entirely sure what it was they were looking for. A box maybe, or something out of place. Honestly, she didn’t even know what size the thing they were hoping to find would be.

Like Illyria, she too pushed aside several branches; found an empty beer can discarded at the base of it which she was sure wasn’t what they were hoping to find. There were a few silvery corner pieces of snack wrappers and plastic bits. Garbage that was either unintentionally dropped or blown from one of the several trash cans in the vicinity.

“Can you describe some of the other caches you’ve found before? Just so I can get a better idea of what we’re trying to find?”

"I've always tried to not go after caches that indicate the need for digging. With how small I am it just doesn't suffice. A hole in a tree could work but that might have to be a larger hole. It is possible though."

Illyria mused silently for a moment before hearing the rest of Eleonora's question about cache descriptions. Her mind flashed back to the ones that she had found before shifting her body to jump down to the ground. "Most caches are made as to not attract regular everyday attraction from the general public. They are usually hidden just off the way from the coordinates marked down which gives the searcher a bit more of a actual hunt to find it. But for the most part, anything that looks like it is sealed, be it a box or cylinder tube can be used as a cache deposit. I think given the fact that this one might be considered out of the way that it could be a moderate sized cache. I'm guessing it'd be underneath a low bush if anything. A good rule of thumb to remember is: one shouldn't have to put themselves at risk to locate the cache."

She prowled the line of low bushes and sniffed cautiously at a leafy branch before facing Ele. "It's definitely around, probably no more than twenty-five feet from the coordinates marked."

Well that’s fortunate, at least there were rules in place to keep the seekers safe. It at least meant that they wouldn’t need to climb trees to find something that was hidden, especially since she was sure some of these low branches wouldn’t do well with holding her weight.

“Times like this I wish my magic actually produced light.” Heat was not the same as a flam and in this instance, it would offer no aid to them in finding something hidden. No glint of light off a metal canister or long shadow cast by an abnormal box.

“Could it be under one of the benches or picnic tables, maybe?” It’d be difficult for her to crawl under to check but seemed to be a place that fit within the parameters of the hunt. Thankful Illyria was small enough that it would be an easy task.

Illyria glanced at Eleonora when she commented that her magic didn't produce light. She grasped what the senshi was comparing her magic to before shifting her stance. Her gaze took in the benches that Ele mentioned before scrunching her face in thought. It could be a feasible place to hide a cache but it seemed just a little too obvious of a place. Even if a cache were considered as out of the way there was always the risk of the regular public finding it and not understanding what it was. Or worse it could be destroyed or taken apart and the chance to find it again lost.

"It's a valid observation in regards to the tables and benches but I think that for safety of the cache it'd be somewhere around here..."

Suddenly something triggered the small mauvian to dart into the low opening provided by the oddly shaped hanging bough of a bush. She definitely had sighted something in the undergrowth. A minute of silence followed before the sound of an object being pushed along the leaf litter was heard. Illyria darted out from the opening to glance at Eleonora before panting softly. The cache was a bit larger than she had anticipated. Her small frame was almost the same size as the box and she wondered just want was held inside. "I found it Ele. It's just at the edge of the branch here, " a paw went to indicate the branch in question. "I just need one more good push or to move it into the open."

With that Illyria wriggled underneath the bush again and trotted around the shoe-box sized plastic container and heaved against its side. The plastic shifter but held fast before she rammed the side with all her weight behind the effort. Suddenly the box moved just enough to emerge partially out of the cover of the bush and Illyria shouted for the senshi of heat to grab it. She hoped Ele would oblige because the effort of trying to shove it totally out into the open would wind her further.

More than happy to assist, Eleonora reached for the container and pulled it out from under the bush. “Ok, this is definitely bigger than what I was expecting.” She felt mildly impressed with how well something of this size was hidden.

Then again, if this was in the daytime, they might have spotted it a bit easier. Shadows and leaves did not make this easy. But hopefully, the reward for finding it would be worth the time it took to locate it.

Cautiously, Eleonora unclasped the fasteners on the side of the plastic container and slowly lifted the lid; mostly a precaution because she didn’t want to scream if something suddenly jumped out at them. “Looks like whoever put this one together was at the Star Fall Festival recently.” Inside were two charms, among other trinkets, that were handed out by the volunteers. Picking up the orange one, she spun it around marveling at how these ones differed from previous years.

“What do we do once we’ve found it?” Presumably, they were supposed to leave something in return but Eleonora didn’t really have anything to trade. The only things kept in her sub-space pocket were snacks and a blanket from her sister's homeworld. Fortunately, the gift from Alcor was too big to fit, not that she wanted to give it up since it was rather precious to her.

Illyria eyed the contents of the container before spotting the log paper that she had been expecting to see. Also she quickly glanced at the charm that Eleonora had removed before eyeing the sapphire charm that still remained. Leaning into the box the mauvian grasped the blue-colored charm and removed it from the container. Her gaze than went to the paper before she went through the process of unfolding it. "We generally sign the log indicating what was removed and what was added, and the find date. So we see that the last person to find this cache took two items and left two in return. I have some things in my back pocket that I can leave for the both of us."

Concentrating Illyria brought forth some of her items in question before nodding at one of them. "I'm partial to this rock but I'm willing to sacrifice it as my offering to the cache in return for this charm. You are more than welcome to pick something else out of my little collection here."

In front of Illyria besides the small quartz crystal that she was offering to switch out there also were: an empty charm bracelet chain, a small pack of colored pencils, a wish bone, and finally a small flashlight.

"My advice is to ignore the wish bone, but maybe someone needs an extra wish or something. I thought it would be an interesting switch one day but it still sits unused. We can sign names if we want but I generally sign with a pseudonym. Can't go around using Illyria all the time."

“Ahh,” she sifted through the remaining items and selected the small pack of colored pencils. It was a cute gift to leave and she was sure that if a young kid were to happen upon this cache next, they would enjoy an artsy surprise. “Thank you. I think I’ll need to find some trinkets like these to keep in my sub-space pocket in case I come across one of these again.”

It was a fun search and she hope to have a chance to join Illyria on another adventure like this.

Once the little Mauvian was finished signing the finders log, Eleonora borrowed one of the colored pencils from the pack and signed just the letter “E” in a fancy font. “How’s that?” she asked, feeling kind of proud of this moment they shared she held the log up for Illyria to inspect.

Illyria watched as Eleonora mulled over the choices that she had been presented with and nodded as the colored pencils made the cut to go into the cache. The mauvian glanced around at their surroundings and while it would be nice to return the box to the same place it was a little bit out of the way for enterprising hunters to assume where the box was.

Once the container was ready to be sealed back up Illyria motioned for Eleonora to grab the cache and follow her. Given how far she had to move into the underbrush was a small issue but as they had been searching she had kept an eye out for a new spot to place the box within the appropriate range of distance. With that factor in play Illyria mentally crossed off two of the three possible spots and moved to the only one remaining. Her gaze took in the pathway barrier before once more bringing her gps unit into play. "One other rule of thumb, if the cache is moved outside the range I mentioned earlier; it's a good practice to note a new set of coordinates. Which is what I am now doing. I'll send them into the website that I found this cache's information on as soon as I can to update the change."

Marking the new numbers Illyria sat at the edge of the pathway before instructing Eleonora to move just out of where she sat to place the cache where she wished. When the senshi of heat came back empty handed, Illyria made the move to climb the young woman's body to rest on her shoulder again. Her purr was loud as she brought forth her own star charm once more to find a way to pin it to her ribbon collar.
