Misplaced (13) : Things are just vanishing. Maybe it’s the heat, or the chaos of the times, but even if you swear you put something somewhere, it might be gone. Maybe as quickly as you exit a room and return. Usually it’s only small things; sometimes you might hear a strange rattling just before something disappears, but once it’s gone, it’s gone. So far, it’s mostly things that aren’t too big, but recently there have been reports of cars just disappearing, too…
Officer Drew Bones came home to his parents' house once more (he really needed to move out and get his own place) and set his stuff down in the room he shared with his 19-month-old twin brothers, Dell and Den. Setting his badge down on his desk, he went over to them in their playpen and gave them a scrunch. "Hey Dell, Hey Den, how you guys doing? You know big brother Drew loves you!" "Dew! Dew!" They said in their rendition of his name. He smiled. "I'm here." They giggled. He turned back to his desk and frowned. His badge was missing. Also, the Star Charm, he found in the backseat of the Police Car today and subsequently hooked to his hat was also gone...
He looked around the desk and behind it, as well as in it. Nothing. Hmm, he looked toward Dell and Den... no. Mom was taking a shower - no. Dad was at work - no. Aunt Dia, Dria, and Dani were still at school - no.
Hmm- he heard Dari in the next room. "Dari, have you seen my..." "Sorry, Daddy, please leave me when I'm using the litterbox...it's so embarrassing that I have to use this!"
Drew's eyes went wide in, well a "I didn't need to picture that..." emotion. "Ooookay." He looked at the twins like they could answer him back about Dari's having to announce that he was using the litterbox, when he was so embarrassed to be using it.
"Dawe! Dawe!" "Yes, Dari." Drew said and frowned. These little ones were getting too smart for their good. With all their older siblings transforming and speaking about their alter-ego lives, and indeed Dari even talking in front of them and putting on his Human glamour before them - well the chances would only grow as they grew older that either of them would spill the beans. At that terrifying thought, he put it all out of his mind, thinking that he would speak to Dria, Dani, and Dari later about it, and went back to looking for his badge.
A moment later, he heard a rattling and before he could turn - they were all sitting in almost complete darkness - the sun was still shining in through the curtains - but the ceiling lamp itself WAS GONE! NO FREAKING WAY. It was there one moment - and the next - there was a hole in the ceiling with wires sticking out. Drew's jaw dropped. Oookay, now the Police Captain would be furious with him AND his parents would be as well.
He looked back at the twins who were two seconds from crying. "It's okay. I'm here guys. Guess I'm going to have to discuss this with the others as well."
"Dwia!" said Dell wisely. "Danee!" continued Den. Together they cried, "Dawe!" Drew shook his head in amazement.
Dari trotted in at that moment, with toilet paper stuck to his left hindleg (Drew blinked at this absurdity: a kitten using a litterbox, complaining about it, and somehow ending up with toilet paper stuck to his foot?) and said sweetly looking at Dell and Den, "I heard my name called, little ones - O - M - G, Daddy! What do you do to the light?" Drew shook his head in exasperation.
