Sweeties was a wonderful shop. Evie firmly believed that it was, but she wasn’t a fan of the name. Her mom had loved it and had bullied her dad into choosing it, but…honestly? It sounded so…stupid to Evie. Always had. When she was finally given ownership of the candy store…the name would be the first thing to change, and often she allowed her mind to wander, trying to figure out what would be a better name for the place. Something that didn’t sound so…girly and stupid obviously but.
She looked up as a customer walked in and put on a bright smile. “Good afternoon! Welcome to Sweeties! What can I get ready for you today? We have some samples of our caramel marshmallow bars if you’d like a taste! They’re right up there so please help yourself.” Evie nodded at the glass covered dish on top of the counter. “I made them this morning and the batch had some extra, but they’re very good, if you like milk chocolate, at least!”
She forced herself to stop rambling, and allowed the customer to get a word in but.
Sometimes it was hard. She was alone here for most of the day, after all.

Hattie loved sweets, Aimee knew, and so it seemed only natural to be drawn towards a sweet shop. Of course, one like this--one that clearly had proper candies, handmade and hand-produced, was the ideal, because her sweet girl deserved only the best that Aimee's inheritance could buy.
The girl behind the counter was lovely, which was also nice--not as pretty as her Hattie, but Aimee was biased that way. "Oh, I'm looking for some things for my girlfriend. She loves chocolate, so maybe one of those bars would be good for her." And plenty of other treats, obviously. Hattie had been very, very good recently, and well-behaved girls got rewarded.
She did lightly lift the glass and take a bar for herself. Best to try it and make sure it was good enough for her girl.

“Coming right up!” Evie grinned and took one of the small bulk boxes from the shelf near the counter and fluffed it up. “So, one of the bars, and then just…chocolate. No real preference? If she’s into milk chocolate, then I would recommend a few of the chocolate covered pretzels, and maybe some bonbons or oh!”
She nodded at the woman and waggled her eyebrows. “Fudge. I will always push the fudge on people. And I just made a batch of the milk chocolate this morning so, I bet she’d love that! If you want a sample I’m happy to give it too. In honor of girlfriend solidarity, after all.”
Evie winked. The woman was older than she was but, honestly? She didn’t care. It was harmless and fun…and if a few winks and some free samples made the sale that much bigger…well. She would wink and give out nibbles until the cows came home.

Aimee listened to the girl behind the counter's suggestions, thoughtfully. She was clearly knowledgeable, and it was always smart to listen to the opinions of an expert, she thought. And Evie was clearly an expert.
"Milk chocolate should be good, yes," she said, thoughtfully. There was quite a bouquet of options in front of her, really, and narrowing them down to choose sounded exhausting. Besides, why should she choose when she could afford not to, and Hattie deserved the best?
"I'll take a sampling of all of those," she said. It would mean a wide variety of presents, and that was always the best approach, she thought. Besides, a little spoiling never went amiss.
She gave the girl behind the counter a wink back. "And I'll trust your judgement. But I appreciate the offer." She laughed, a little. The idea of a little bit of girlfriend solidarity and some free samples did sound nice, but there would be time to try all of it when she brought it home.
After all, good treats were even better when they were shared.

“Milk chocolate it is then. I’ll make your girl such a feast that she’ll propose to you on the spot.”
Evie couldn’t stop her grin as she continued to put together the box of sweets, and finally made her way to the register. ‘All right, if you want to come over here I’ll have your total in just a minute.”
Idly she wondered at how lucky the girlfriend of this woman was, and she hoped that maybe one day her and Nissa would be something close to official or…or just. Something. She wanted that. Wanted someone to spoil her. Bring over some candy so that she could indulge. Surprise her with stupid gifts that they knew she liked…she wanted someone to care about her in a way that was more than simply platonic.
“I hope to see you back in here again sometime. And I hope that she enjoys her treats! She’s lucky to have someone as thoughtful as you are.” Evie gave a smile that was rather wistful, but hopefully the woman wouldn’t notice.
No need to bring stupid things into her professional life.

Aimee laughed. "Bold words! I'd love it if you were right," she said, bright and cheerful. Hattie proposing to her....marrying Hattie for real, doing more than just giving her her name...
Well, that was something she definitely wanted to consider. She wanted to bind Hattie to her in every way that existed, and a proper wedding would be one more. The thought made her smile.
She followed Evie over to the register, and watched the total ring up, humming and producing her credit card without a flinch. Any amount of money was worth it if it made Hattie happy, and she knew that candy would make Hattie happy.
"If she likes it," Aimee said, "I'll definitely be back. Especially if she likes it as much as you say." She smiled, fondly. "My Hattie is....everything, to me. And I want to give her what she deserves."
It was more than she liked to reveal, sure, butt his was the ashier at a candy shop where she was buying romantic candy for her girlfriend. Probably she was used to hearing customers be a little sappy.
"Thank you!" She said. "Hope to be back soon!"
She took her box and slipped out of the store, humming as she went.
