Quote: The Silent Firework (9) : Fireworks are aplenty this time of year, and there’s always something going off somewhere in the city. Little pops and noises are common, but something about this firework is completely abnormal–it makes absolutely no sound. Instead, light and color splashes across the night sky and leaves a lingering glow behind. No one knows where it came from, but it lit up the sky like a midnight sun, and was gone after about a moment. Anyone who managed to see it in person may find that when they blink, there is a residual glow before them. Strangely, it even seems like there’s a trail of faded, glowing light guiding them somewhere. Maybe you’re led to some special place, or some special person, or–maybe the trail ends before you ever find out where you were supposed to go. Volterra wasn't quite sure ne should've been going out on nis own, just yet, but ne had to start doing something productive for the Mirrorspace, ne supposed. As boring as it was to "serve" something that was just... well... Volterra just wasn't really invested in the whole thing. Ne'd only become a magical person to chase nis stupid cousin down anyway and try to protect his idiot a**. But then Volterra's magic was some bullshit to do with sunbeams and that wasn't very fun at all. It was just too... quaint. Boring. Like the rest of everything ne had dealt with so far. Blergh. But there were pretty fireworks going off tonight, at least, and ne wasn't really looking for people to drain anyway. More like looking for trouble. Rough up some of these White Moon assholes that were giving Reiki a hard time and all that. That sounded fun. But ne watched the fireworks, eyes narrowing at one that exploded yet made no sound. Strange. Ne blinked, and the sparks remained imprinted on nis eyes, somehow, yet different. Seeming to point in a new direction. Oh boy. Great. Magical fireworks. Might as well see where these go, ne thought, chasing the sparks down the streets and through alleyways, until they vanished and ne almost ran into someone. "Oh, shoot. Sorry, I couldn't see anything for a moment," Volterra apologized, rubbing nis eyes. "The fireworks..."

The…fireworks. Leona was growing very uncomfortable with the idea of these fireworks that just kept causing people to act strange and see things and almost jump off of bridges. It…was just disturbing. “What about the fireworks…you couldn’t see anything, please don’t tell me that you’re now in the mood to just walk like a creepy zombie and want to jump into traffic, because I literally dealt with that yesterday or the day before and I don’t have the energy to do it again…I suppose I could just. Use my magic on you now to stop whatever trances might happen but.”
Would the other Dark Mirror think her annoying? Maybe. Did it really matter in the long run? Wasn’t it better than watching someone else almost just jump off of a bridge because of a stupid firework?
Yes.
“You know, I’m over here just thinking and it might be best to just. Trembling Cold. Don’t hate me for this but I seriously did almost watch someone jump off of a bridge earlier and I just can’t. So…sorry about the cold and just…be careful with the shaking but don’t look at creepy a** fireworks, okay?”

Volterra had opened nis mouth to reply to Leona, ready to explain that no, ne hadn't exactly seen anything that would make nem run into traffic—in fact, ne was quite certain that the fireworks had simply... led nem to a new friend to make in the Dark Mirror Court, which ne really enjoyed the idea of. Though of course, perhaps as ne should've expected, ne was suddenly hit with a spell that made him extremely cold. Which. For a few moments, was kind of nice, considering the heat, but then the ice formed under nis feet and ne fell right onto nis butt, shaking and shivering from the cold, and quite possibly drooling, though ne refused to even think about this extremely embarrassing fact. "C-Cold-d-d-d," ne said from the ground, teeth chattering away as ne looked up at Leona like a wet dog baleful that it had been given a much-needed bath, "Wh-why? B-Brid-d-d-ge? Wh-wh-what?" None of what Leona was saying made any sense to Volterra. For nem, what had happened was quite simple. Ne had seen a path made from a silent firework, and spent time chasing the sparks that overlayed nis vision. ne hadn't been... oblivious to the real world around nem, had ne? Ne didn't think so. But if this Leona had dealt with this before, then it was certainly possible that Volterra hadn't been as aware as ne had seemed, and that was frightening. How could a firework make someone so... drugged out? See things like sparks, sure, that was just fine for a magical possibility, but so ******** up on firework cocaine that they become some kind of slumbering zombie and just meander into traffic? Had Volterra even paid attention to traffic on nis way here? What about a bridge? Ne was fairly certain ne hadn't been near any bridges at any point on nis journey here, but... Now ne was extremely concerned. And ******** cold.

“I know, I know it’s cold but I promise it won’t last for very much longer. And it’s better than being hot right? I would much rather be cold than hot. You can put on layers but you can only take so many off. You could take off your skin, I suppose but that would just be so terribly messy and I would hate it, and your blood is hot anyway so really, it would do more harm than good.”
When it seemed like ne was in no danger of really…following the firework or something, Leona held her hand out. “Sailor Leona. Dark Mirror of Cryoseism which is why the magic is so cold and shaky. So like…yeah. The bridge, I met someone from the other side of things, my first one, right? And he was just walking like a dumbass and was about to just step off of a bridge and play in traffic and of course I freaked out! Who wouldn’t freak out. ANd I used my magic and he’s not dead in front of me which is something I’m proud of so…”
Blowing out a breath, Leona shrugged. “Moral of the story, I’m becoming a little uncomfortable with fireworks. Which. Also sucks.” Pausing for a moment, she added. "....And who are you? Suppose I should have asked sooner but. I'm not that smart sometimes."

Volterra stood, taking Leona's hand for help and exhaling sharply as the cold abruptly left nem, the heat of summer washing over nem once again. That felt better. "Cold should stay in winter where it belongs," ne said with a wry smile, "I prefer the cold, sure, but not in the middle of a heatwave like that. Too much all at once. Though with climate change who knows what could happen." Ne huffed a little laugh. "Sailor Volterra. Of sunbeams." And here, ne grimaced. "Wish I'd gotten cryoseism. I'm not all... sparkly. Usually."

Leona snorted and shrugged. “I mean, I’m the kind of person who enjoys just sticking my head into the freezer so, I don’t mind fluctuating temperatures all that much. She watched the other senshi for a long moment, thoughtful and trying to think of what her next move should be.
Clearly there hadn’t been any bad feelings that were festering but. That could always change. And honestly, Leona didn’t want that to happen.
“Do you wanna go grab something to eat? I feel like I should keep you under observation after that stupid firework, and I want to make sure you don’t start resenting me after I just…attacked you for no apparent reason.”
She waggled her eyebrows and nodded towards the city at large. “Besides. We’re supposed to be friends, clearly. And the sooner we both get inside, the happier I’ll be so. Let’s go have a food adventure so long as it’s cheap!”

Volterra nodded and glance around before powering down, becoming Haruhi in a flash. The star charm ne'd picked out earlier poked nem from nis pocket and ne shoved it around a little bit, keeping nis hands in nis jean pockets. "I know a great place nearby called Gertrude's," ne said helpfully. "Let's go!"
