Quote:
The Fairies (7) : The City has been lit up for the Star Festival with banners and twinkling decorations strewn off the windowsills of shop fronts and windows. The gardeners at one particular park have put their heart and soul into creating a fairy's paradise: Fairy lights have been carefully dangled from trees to make strings of stars, little beaded jewels have been hidden among the hedges, and even the old cobwebs have been sprayed with just a touch of glitter. The park is open to everyone and the citizens of Destiny City have been invited to respectfully explore the hidden wonders that have been placed throughout. The park is magical enough on its own but there have also been reports of a strange, ethereal and shimmering stranger in the park. The glimmer of a beautiful costumed figure fluttering through the park has been passed around as rumor, and no matter what anyone claims to see, no one can take a picture of it. As if simply seeing some magical figure isn’t mysterious enough, there are also reports of mischief and small pranks being played at the same time this figure seems to appear.

Fang had shuffled down to the park, powered up once again. He desired deeply to be out there hunting down those from the Negaverse, but these dead spots were concerning. They made a friend of his attack him, and the both of them see shadows of things that didn't exist. He needed to try and get to the bottom of it.

He couldn't help, however, staring at the pretty lights draped everywhere, ears falling back on his head, still open, in sheer awe. It was so pretty... He wanted to spend more time looking at it, but the longer he did, the funnier his head felt, so he shook it vigorously and kept trekking until he came across a dead spot.

And someone else standing near it. Eternal, White Moon... He was okay with that. Certainly better than dealing with another Chaos person who might want to actually hurt him, unlike Murikabushi.

"Hello," he called out, ears perking up to receive her response. "You see monsters?"

She'd felt the approach of an energy signature, but she'd stayed where she was watching the lights twinkle the fairy garden the city had made. It hadn't been on her list of place to see tonight, but one of the dead spots she'd heard about was near here and it had been impossible to resist the urge to stop, just for a few minutes. She was too busy in both her day time and night time lives to come otherwise, so it was just a small treat to herself.

And there had been the stories of a real faerie being sighted... she doubted what people had seen was as innocent as that, and not an agent of chaos or one of their monsters. It'd been a better reason to come and check things out that just indulging herself.

When the energy signature came directly to her, she turned towards it and away from the lights, surprised to find a young man with tousled hair and a pair of... ears? Not real ones, she assumed. He probably had some sort of animal sphere.

"Monsters? No, no monsters tonight." She said as she offered him a smile and an extended hand. "Sorry. I'm Ida."

He stared at her hand for a moment, uncomprehending, until he remembered, very dimly, that some movie or another he'd seen while hanging out at his new home showed people shaking hands when they first met. He didn't really like touching someone right off the bat, it would mess up his smell, but he supposed he had to abide by Earth customs now, and gingerly reached out to shake it.

"Ida pretty name," he told her, tail wagging behind him gently with the heartfelt compliment, "I am Fang. Happy to meet you."

He glanced back at the dead spot, then to Ida with a curious expression. "No monsters? Even in there?" he asked a bit trepidatiously, pointing to it as his ears slowly pinned backwards on his head.

She held his hand lightly, squeezing gently, before releasing it. She could feel his hesitance, so she kept her contact short and ended it with a smile to reassure him she hadn't been bothered.

"Thanks! Its nice to meet you too." She glanced back as he did and frowned at the dead spot, her shoulders lifting and falling. "I've seen a lot of them so far, but no monsters, I'm afraid. Did you see monsters somewhere?"

That wouldn't be unusual for Destiny City, all things considered. The negaverse set loose their youma often, and so much of patrolling the back streets and parks was dealing with the things that weren't being minded by an officer, and thus running rampant to terrorize anyone they happened upon. But she hadn't seen anything like that around these spots. Not even actual animals, let alone youma.

Looking back, movement caught her eye and Ida couldn't stop herself from staring in wide-eyed surprise as his ears... moved. And she caught the swish of... a tail? Were those real?

Hadn't that Dark Mirror senshi mentioned a non-human senshi? She remembered that now... Murikabushi had mentioned meeting him. A lot of pieces fell into place suddenly and she was completely at a loss for words, so many questions falling over each other in her head she wasn't sure which, if any, she should voice.

"You're... you're not from Destiny City, are you?" She said finally, feeling dumb as soon as she said it. Of course he wasn't.

Fang was grateful she didn't shake his hand for too long. He just... wasn't good at this sort of thing. Touching people wasn't something he did very often, especially people he didn't know. Lysithea was a very special case, since she'd been there when he first landed on Earth and helped keep him calm with her excellent ear scratches.

She was good. He liked her very much.

"Shadows of monsters. In the dead space," he finally replied as he realized she'd said something while he was lost in thought, gesturing to it once again.

His ears stayed pinned back as she asked her question. He was getting tired of this—this shock, every time someone realized he wasn't a human. Explaining was always hard, both physically and emotionally, but there wasn't much he could do about it. He didn't want to be rude to anyone, and he didn't have to explain everything all at once.

"No. From Fang. Alone many year, then magic take me to Earth," he said, slowly relaxing so his ears popped back up. "But... the shadows scary. What are they?"

He didn't want a repeat experience, of seeing them and panicking and casting magic and then maybe getting hit with magic that made him feel bad, so he turned his eyes away form the spot, not looking directly at Ida, either, but some of the trees, to keep himself some semblance of calm.

It was hard to bring herself back under control, but she managed to do it with a mental shake. There were aliens who'd arrived and teamed up with the Negaverse, there were tons of monsters from other worlds, there was no reason to think there couldn't be senshi from other worlds... it just begged the question why they had only started appearing now. And maybe how?

Ida clasped her arms over her chest as she thought about his insistence that there had been monsters in the dead spot he'd found, dragging her mind away from those insistent question. This dead spot, or another one? She didn't have any reason to disbelieve him, even if she hadn't seen any herself. But it didn't really tell her what he'd seen.

"I don't know what they are, for sure. I told someone else that... there are often sources of chaos out in the universe that make monsters. If you saw something that didn't belong on Earth, and it had chaos energy, then that's probably where it came from. They appear sometimes here on Earth, and sometimes on other planets. I've fought them before." She said, opening her hand helplessly. "And without seeing them myself, I can't say if they're something I've seen before. Did they attack you? Or, drain your energy?"

That was pretty common of these chaos monsters... if that's what they were, then maybe they were part of all of this? Did they cause the dead spots, or were they the product of them? Too many questions, as always.

Fang shook his head, pondering how to answer. He seemed to be giving her the wrong impression, but he didn't know how to... correct it. He wasn't very good at this at all, was he?

"Hmm... no... no real monster. Shadow," he reiterated, glancing around and then pointing to his own shadow. "Shadow in grass. Fang attack. Nothing there. Friend! Friend saw, too. Hear hisssssh. Still nothing there. Only... shadow. Then, distracted."

He massaged his throat without even thinking about it as his voice snapped on the last word, feeling sore and crackly and swollen.

The senshi woman could only shake her head and repeat what she had already told him.

"I don't know what they are, I'm sorry." She said. Shadows that weren't real monsters? What she'd told him still applied, whether they were actual monsters or shadows of monsters, or figments of their imaginations even. Chaos magic caused all sorts of problems for the people on Earth. All sorts of effects that couldn't be explained and had never been seen by anyone before.

Her eyes softened with concern as he rubbed his neck, his voice breaking.

"Are you okay?" She asked softly. "Friend... was that Murikabushi? She said she'd hit you with her magic. Does it still hurt?"

Senshi magic didn't normally have such a long last effect, but that didn't mean it couldn't. And sometimes, lingering damage didn't have to be physical.

Fang tilted his head, confused for a moment until he realized she was talking about his throat.

"Oh! No, not Muri," he said, shaking his head. "This... normal. For Fang. Talking... always hurt. Always hard. Lived alone long time."

He hoped she believed him, because he didn't want Murikabushi to suffer any consequences for something that Fang has dealt with since he was a young child. After a long time with no contact in the meadows, and then learning to speak again as a teenager, and then not talking for several hundred years as everyone and everything died around him had left him with so much damage...

Ida nodded slowly, but she chewed on her lip as she did so, thinking.

It would be hard to carry on much more of a conversation with him, then, if talking too long hurt. She still had so many questions... but, it wasn't his responsibility to satisfy her curiosity. He didn't owe her answers, no matter how curious she was. But, perhaps there was something she could do.

"If you want, I can make help a little bit." She said. She offered her hand again, the one with a glowing orchid shape in the palm, and a bit of amber on the back held by delicate chains. "I can heal a little. Enough to make your throat feel better."

Perhaps that was why his speech was as broken as it was. If talking hurt, it made sense that he wasn't terribly verbose. Who wanted to talk with a sore throat? Still. Ida could not let him go while he hurt, not without trying something to help.

Fang stared at the orchid in her palm in pure wonder. Would... would this magic go as deep as he feared the damage truly was? How long would it last?

He was terrified and excited all at once, the emotions swelling inside him until he simply nodded and allowed her to help him.

"Please try," he whispered so his voice didn't crack and show how he was really feeling, as if his tucked tail and rotating ears didn't give that away.

He showed his emotions so easily and Ida couldn't help feeling sorry for him, for his current discomfort and all the things in his past that had brought him to this state. There was only so much she could do, but damned if she wasn't going to try.

She took his hand gently, carefully, and let it rest between her two own, her touch cool and calm. Dark eyes half-lidded as she concentrated and opened up that dam that held back the overflowing energy her world fed her. Just a trickle, but every day, it pooled and gathered, until she felt like over-filled bowl of water. This was a good way to relieve that sensation, and all to the better since she'd gotten the little chunk of amber.

The energy flowed down her arms and passed from her to Fang, moving like liquid sunshine and pouring warmth into them as it went. The amber on her hand began to glow, down deep in its honey-colored heart, and it flavored that energy, changing it to something that soothed and healed. For Murikabushi, who'd had nothing to heal, all it had done was remove any tiredness. For Fang, it sought out the damaged parts and engulfed them with gentle warmth.

As Ida let the energy pour out of her, it took some of the restlessness with it. The tingling uneasiness faded and she felt more like herself again, more able to concentrate and less like she'd taken a shot of espresso. When she felt the last of the excess energy leave her, she finally closed that place inside of her up, stopping the flow until it built up again.

Releasing Fang's hand, she smiled brightly and clasped her own in front of her.

"Is that better?" She said, hopeful.

Fang felt it. The magic doing something to his throat. It felt wonderful, and tingly, and he swallowed.

"Yes," he breathed softly, eyes wide with wonder. He couldn't be sure how long the magic would last. He'd been this way for so long—there was no way it could just be cured. Temporarily relieved, maybe. But he would enjoy it while it lasted.

"Thank you," he whispered, head bowing. "I owe you... so much. Have not felt this good in... so long."

To his shock and horror, his shoulders began shaking as tears rolled down his face.

whoops, guess who just found this OTL

For the second time in her experience, someone broke down crying after she used her healing amber on them. She watched with bemusement and a growing concern as the tears began, reaching out instinctively to take his arms and squeeze them gently.

"Shh, Its okay..." She murmured as she rubbed his upper arms gently. "You're welcome. I'm truly happy to help, I don't like to see people in pain. I really like to help. I know removing pain can leave a lot of big emotions though. Its okay."

Ida wasn't sure what else she could do, other than be a warm and solid presence for him. Had she known him better, or if he'd been less hesitant to touch, she might have wrapped him in a hug... but without knowing if that would help or not, offering those arm rubs was the best she felt she could do. There were a lot of damaged people in the world, especially it seemed, on their side of the war. Helping them, comforting them... that was what she wanted to do most.

The night was quiet around them save for the quiet hum of far off traffic and Ida was content to give him the time to process as they stood in the dimness of the park. There was no where to rush to, and their problems would still be there in ten, fifteen, twenty minutes... whatever it took.

Fang decided then that he could make an exception for Ida, like he had for Lysithea. He wanted a hug, and Ida had just done him the biggest favor of his life. He threw himself at her, wrapping his arms around her in a hug and burying his face in her shoulder to continue crying.

"Thank you," he sobbed again.

Thankfully for the both of the, the torrent of tears slowed after only a few minutes and Fang pulled back, glad to not redamage his throat so quickly because of a little crying.

But he didn't know what else to say, here, so he stared at her awkwardly.
