Although Nimia far preferred her northern home, she also enjoyed visiting with family in the south. The smell of salt in the air, waves crashing around her calves as she treaded across warm sands…Matori certainly held an allure. Even if her grandparents hadn’t chosen to settle here she may have wanted to come for vacations. Sometimes Nimia wondered if it was the pull of her blood bringing her back to these shores or just a love for adventure. From a safe perspective, of course.
She’d traded out her thick dresses and boots for a lighter sundress and barefeet. The wind whipped through her hair, bringing the thick stands over her shoulders and nearly knocking the lenses from her eyes. There was a shop she’d wanted to check out since she first arrived, but without a proper sense of direction Nimia had wisely hung back. Until she could get an escort, that is.
“Do you think they’ll be mad we left them behind?” Them being Oly’s brother and her own sister.

Any attempt to keep his hood up was pointless with the wind whipping it back every other minute. It lashed around his neck instead, smacking his jaw lightly every so often. Oly tried to tie it a little tighter to keep it in place and looked over at his niece. He didn't see any of his nieces or nephews very often, so he wanted to spend what time he could with them during their brief visits. "I'm sure they'll find something to do to keep busy without us. There will be time to do things with them later before you guys head home." Frankly, Oly tended to appreciate time away from the bustle of the family. After all, he saw them all the time. He wasn't a kid anymore! "I mean, we can go get them if you really want to?"

Seeing her Uncle’s distress, Nimia pulled a pin out of her hair. It wasn’t doing much good at keeping her hair tucked back anyway, but maybe…”Hang on.” Taking a step closer, she tucked the edges of his hood closer to his face and used the pin to give it some stability. “There. It’s not much, but maybe it’ll stay.”
Maybe she should have taken to wearing a hood as well, or at least a light scarf? Maybe that would keep the tips of her ears from burning. “No, no, I like that it’s just us. We don’t get to spend a lot of time just the two of us.” Looking at the path ahead of them, Nimia scrunched up her nose and pushed the bridge of her glasses up with a thoughtful finger. “Do you know the way to ‘The Poisoned Pen’? A few travelers told me it was nearby and that they sold some interesting books.”

He knew his brother would be fine, but he didn't know Fiadah well enough. She didn't seem the type that would mind, though. His brow rose from Nimia's assistance, and he touched the pin gently. "Thanks. Maybe we'll get those hats with the ties while we're in town for the walk back. Wasn't expecting the wind to be so excited today." He glance at Nimia and smirked. "It's probably trying to show off for you visitors." He wasn't much of a 'the world has energy' sort of guy, but sometimes even he would wonder. After all, if someone could summon water out of the air..
"The Poisoned Pen?" A laugh jumped out of him, cheeks flushing slighty with embarrassment. "Yeah, everyone around here knows that place. Last time I was there, it had a really varied selection, so you're bound to find something. Just.. you keep yourself to the front of the store, you hear me?" Well shoot, how old was Nimia now? Certainly she wasn't yet old enough for that section of books!

She wasn’t…as keen about the hats, to be honest. Nimia had seen a few local teenagers make fun of travelers with them; more so if they had poultices smeared across their faces to protect against the sun. The young girl may have needed the assistance, but she was also okay with a little bit of burn if it meant escaping their critical eyes.
“Why are you laughing? Is it a bad shop?” Ever one to jump to the worst, Nimia’s heart leapt into her throat. What if it was somewhere shady and they weren’t supposed to be? Or what if it’s contents weren’t worth half as much as the travelers said they were? “Front of the store…what’s in the back?”
She really should go there. He’d said not too, but now…well, it wouldn’t hurt to at least hear about it.

Oly smiled apologetically. "No, no, it's not really 'bad' in a sense. There are just.. areas not appropriate for everyone. " His blush darkened, bashful about bringing up such a topic with a family member. He glance at his niece and then quickly forward again. She was old enough to speak somewhat plainly, right? "Don't tell your dads I told you... It's the adult section. You know... for adults only. People older than you. For not you." He turned and aimed his best 'you better listen' look at the teen. "Specifically not for you or your sister. "

Nimia’s face scrunched further as they walked and her lips pursed. “Areas that are not…appropriate…?” As he continued sense slammed into her and Nimia brought her hands up to her mouth with a surprised squeak. “OH! Oh….” Instantly, her cheeks blushed a deep indigo. “O-of course that…Oh, I won’t be going back there, don’t worry! That’s not why I wanted to come!”
She might go back later when he wasn’t with her, though…No, no! She shouldn’t…but if Fiadah should want to come then she had to escort her…
“I-I’m just looking for magical books and things like that. Stories about legends and things. I don’t want…anything like that so you don’t have to worry.”

Once he saw the realization hit Nimia's face, Oly firmly turned his own face forward again. "Good. I figured you wouldn't, but I don't want you accidentally going back there either." A good uncle would warn his precious nieces of such indecency! Of course, he couldn't help thinking about how he had one been warned away from the back room when he'd been younger... The scamp that he been, that was right where he'd gone.
Maybe the warning had been a mistake... At least he'd be there to keep an eye on her!
"Legends and magic?" Yes! Change of topic! Now was a good time to learn a little more about her. "Do you think you've got magic or just interested?" He wasn't much of a reader himself, but their father made certain that they were all proficient with the skill, so he'd read quite a few different books in his time.

“I’m not really sure.” It was fun to think about; that she could do the things her Baba did. Papa was a talented man in his own right, but magic was something you either had or you didn’t. She knew she wasn’t their daughter by blood which meant it was up to fate. “Even if I don’t have magic I still like to read about it. A girl from my village was taken to a school in the capital because of her magic and she used to let me read from her scrolls.”
Said girl had also told her it was always expected of her to be great with magic. Her father had been some sort of big mage and even if she’d never met him she always had it in her. So, when she started showing signs, he’d come to get her; just like that. Nimia didn’t want to leave like that, but she had to wonder what it would be like to study at a big, grand school.
“I mostly just like to read. “

The way Nimia said it, Oly wasn't sure he liked the sound of the magic school. Taken from home? "That was nice of her to lend you those. What about Sol? Er- your Baba? Does he have any books for you to read? Or.. touch? I guess it's still reading, just different." He felt like he was digging himself a hole... Time to climb out before he got stuck! "Anyway, I'm sure they have lots of books like that for you to find. I know papa has some at the house, too, from when mama was teaching him how to read and write, and the rest of us when we were old enough. Did you look at those already?"

“Most of Baba’s magic comes from-“ Pursing her lips, Nimia lifted her hands and gesticulated a bit as if she were struggling with her words. “-his senses? I’m not sure how to put it. I asked him about it before and he said his teacher was also blind so he wasn’t taught with books.” He spoke a lot about reading ‘souls’ and ‘auras’ which made about as much sense to her as explaining the details in her childhood paintings meant to Sol.
“I did.” Nimia beamed. “I haven’t read all of them yet, but I’ve gotten through a fair bit of them.” Perhaps she should have been taking in the scenery and actually doing things when she visited, but there were just so many ‘new’ books. “What sort of books do you like to read, Oly? Or do you read much? Actually…I’m sorry, I never even asked before we left. If you’d rather not go you don’t have to; I’m sure I can find my own way.”

Oly nodded slowly, though it was a slow nod to show he appreciated the attempt but he had no idea what Nimia was talking about. Something to do with those world energies that he wasn't so sure of, probably. "The blind leading the blind," he murmured with a chuckle. Everyone was blind to something in one way or another, really. "So you must visit the book shops where you live a lot."
When the question turned to his interests, he smiled and shook his head. "Nah, I don't read a lot. I prefer something that gets me moving around." With a small chuckle, he put his arm around Nimia and gave her a squeeze. "I might not be a fan of books, but I am a fan of my amazing niece. I'm happy to take you wherever you want to go while you're here. Just means that you'll have to return the favor the next time I go visit you guys. Sound good?"

She had to smile a bit at the way he used that old phrase. While she was sure Sol would have been able to learn from just about anyone else it was impressive that he’d also managed to find someone in a similar predicament. “As much as I can. There isn’t a shop dedicated just to books in our village, but there is one in the larger ones near us. Whenever we need supplies, I volunteer to go or if else does I try to send a list.”
Of course that was the only time she offered to leave the village and it was only if she had others to go with. Nimia hated getting too far out on her own, but if books were involved…well, she’d brave the wilds for those.
For a moment she felt her heart sank, as if the knowledge of dragging him out to something he didn’t care for really stung, until she was pulled close with a squeak. “Of course! I would do that even if you didn’t ask me too.” She smiled and pushed her glasses back up. “So what do you like to do? There are lots of things that can keep you moving.”

"Ah. Yeah, it's a bit of a hike, but this town has pretty much everything we could need that we don't have for ourselves at the house." They were off of the beaten path far enough to stay away from the crowds, but close enough that a day trip to the town wasn't too strenuous. The town was actually coming into view, the buildings and signs breaking up the landscape. He felt pretty lucky, indeed.
When asked for specifics, he pursed his lips thoughtfully. "I suppose it's a bit of everything. Hiking is a lot of fun, dancing, racing others.." He looked down at himself with a wry smirk. "I know I don't look it, but wrestling and working out is fun, too." He couldn't see Nimia wrestling... "Maybe a hike then, if the weather cooperates up there?"

“…You probably would have had more fun with Fiadah.” Even if she said it with a lighter tone, there was genuine sympathy in Nimia’s words. Her younger sister was a lot more physical than she was and could keep up with anything Oly tried to do far better than Nimia could. She would try if pressed, though, but she would be left a wheezing mess halfway through.
“A hike could be nice, if the wind calms down and it isn’t too sunny. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of the area.” Wrestling would be a quick, one sided battle, but a lighter hike shouldn’t be too bad. It wouldn’t be much different than anything she did back home. “Oh, speaking of dancing; I thought of something last night. Care to hear it?”
