Embly was lonely, she couldn't stand the empty house a moment longer, she wondered if she could find any of those alines or deep space senshi that might need a home and were without a place to stay. She needed company badly even if she didn't plan to talk to them she still liked the energy of feeling other people nearby. She was in the city today window shopping and looking for anything that might catch her eye. Which was how she found herself at a bakery. She looked at a collection of charms curious to know who had made them.

There was a lull in customers–an oddity, given how busy the bakery had been recently, but Caius was happy for it all the same. It gave him the opportunity to restock a few things and clean up. His hair was tied back and he smiled when Embly came in, even if he was a bit shy about how interested she seemed in the charms.
They were an assortment of cute animals, mostly; some of the charms had holographic foil or iridescent sparkles. There were a few pastries that seemed to be made to match some of the charms.
“Are you looking for anything in particular?” he asked; he smiled and set down the box of charms he had, ready to restock the slots that had emptied throughout the morning. “If we’re out of something you want, I can see if we’ve got more in the back. We’ve got a sale on cookies right now, too, three for five. The sugar cookies are so light and fluffy, it’s a new recipe. I can’t get enough of them.”

Embly was a little nervous when the boy came over to her and started try to help. "Umm well I've never been here before, but those cookies sound good and anything else you would recommend I'll buy." She paused and then said "Umm who makes all these things?" She looked at the charms she liked them they were pretty. "I've always loved cookies and cakes as well, do you know any old fashion recipes?" She asked softly. Embly picked up a bat charm and held it in her hand. She imagined having a bat of her own that was alive.

Caius was gradually getting better at saying that he was the artist, but there was always a brief flash of fear any time someone asked.
“The lemon cookies are my favorite right now, but there’s strawberry sugar cookies and birthday cake cookies that are a reall close second. They’re also pretty popular. And the red velvet cupcakes are fresh, the frosting only just set. I don’t know if we use old fashioned recipes–I don’t really do the baking, that’s the owner. He’s in back, though, I could ask. I’m mostly just in charge of–well, these,” he said, nodding to the charms.
“We have a couple of characters, and we have some themed sweets based off of them, too. There’s comics and stories and art and stuff on our website and social media. Um–I can get you a card, if you’re interested! Sometimes we have polls and things for what characters or designs to add. We do a lot of seasonal designs and things. I get to stay pretty active designing them.”

Embly smiled and nodded and then said "I'll order half a dozen of each of those please." She listened and then said, "Oh are you the artist?" She asked softly she understood being shy. She was shy too and sometimes came across as cold even though she didn't mean to. She wanted to be liked and have friends but that wasn't always easy to do. Not everyone was a social butterfly after all. "I really like this little bat charm, it's really cute." She stood there admiring the things for sale. "Yes, a card please." She wanted to go to this comic shop.

Caius brightened. “Okay, I’ll go get those,” he said, and left his box of charms there to finish up after he took care of her. He was quick to put on gloves and collect everything she’d asked for. His face was a little pink from her praise and he hadn’t stopped smiling. “Thank you,” he said.
“Before I started working here, I was having a really hard time with my art. It’s what I wanted to do, but I didn’t have the best opportunity to explore all of that.”
He wasn’t really planning on going into his whole life story so he left it at that. “But this place has just been really wholesome and supportive. I pitched the idea and they let me run with it. They didn’t have to do that, but they embraced it, so,” he smiled at one of the buns decorated like the little bunny on the keychains. “I’m probably biased, this is just my favorite bakery. Can I get you anything else?” he asked, packing the sweets up in a paper bag.

Embly waited for her order and then she frown and asked "Why aren't you able to do your art?" She asked softly. She shook her head since she lived alone these would be more than enough since she had no one to share the sweets with. She wanted to know more about this artist and what was stopping him from doing more art. She wondered if she might be able to help. She could if it was a matter of money. She wouldn't mind donating money to the arts, it was the sort of thing her parents did as well.

“Oh!” Caius laughed a little nervously. “Um–well, I wasn’t able to do my art before because I was kind of–well, I was getting shuffled around a lot. I wasn’t living with my parents, and–I mean, it’s really complicated.”
He wasn’t sure how much a stranger actually wanted to hear about foster care or how hard it had been to juggle everything and do what he wanted to when he was living with people who hardly knew him and seemed more invested in everyone but him.
“Anyway–I’m in a better place right now. Now I can do as much art as I want. Including the charms. I used to do commissions online, for like, gift cards? I got scammed a lot, but I was too young to do anything safe. But here, I mean. It’s a real job, and they let me be creative. So I can do what I want on the side and they actually let me do something with their business. So, I owe them a lot. Things have gotten much better for me since I started working here.”

Embly frowned "I hope you have a place to stay now." She said softly. She smiled then "I'm glad things are better for you now and you are able to make these wonderful things, I hope you will make more soon and perhaps larger pieces. That is wonderful." Embly had noticed that not many were willing to take the easy way out of things. They wanted to work and strive for what they gained. She couldn't blame them the easy life was dull and lonely at times.

“I do!” Caius said pleasantly. “Everything’s really looking up for me. And I’m really happy to be here and have the chance to do all of this. And to meet people like you!”
He seemed flattered still, and couldn’t help but beam at how friendly she’d been. “It was lonely for a long time. And I never thought I’d be able to work at a register, or get to talk to people about my art. It’s been a whole new experience and…it’s been really nice. Thank you for asking about it. You seem like you’re easy to talk to, so–well, I hope you’ll come back soon! We do a lot of different flavors and things, but we can make special orders if you’re looking for something unique, you just have to email so we can coordinate. I put a card in the bag if you’re interested, but–please stay safe! Destiny City can be a rough place. You seem like a really nice person, I don’t want anything bad to happen to you.”
