He was oozing contentedly around the bookshop, inspecting the fine writing paper and dark black ink. He loved supply run days, it was so enlivening. He really had a passion not just for the writing but for the stationary itself and the whole process.

He liked to adventure once in a while but it was to collect ideas and research things he wanted to write about. Occassionally he could convince someone at the Inn to tell him fancy adventure stories, that was usually where it started, then he would try to go to the area, so long as it wasn't too rugged. He wasn't crazy but thorough research was required to sound convincing on paper.

He picked up a sheaf of thick luscious paper, he held the stack to his face and sniffed. Pungent with the smells of the paper making process it was like heaven.

Ever since Nimia had come back south to visit with her grandparents she'd fully embraced the 'freedom' that came with being older. While still young enough to be reigned in from time to time, the teenager was allowed to travel out on her own which meant she could spent far too much time in the bookshop. Her fathers had given her a fair coin purse which they told her to spend however she liked with the hope she'd spend it wisely.

Thus far she'd bought two books about various magical properties, a handful of spell components and a new notebook. To her they were the best sorts of souvenirs.

Now all she needed was the right ink. Or a new text to pour over...Maybe both, if she was lucky. She'd been meandering her way around, content to just absorb the atmosphere, when a particular sight caught her eye. With an empathetic smile, she moved a little closer to the younger man she saw sniffing the pages. "It's wonderful, isn't it? Have you noticed that depending on where the paper comes from it has a different scent?"

He smiled brilliantly up at her, another paper enthusiast it would seem! How incredibly fortunate.

"Yes! I love that it tells a story before you even get to reading or writing. I also like the smell of the ink combined with the paper."

He noticed she had a pile of goodies just like him. A kindred spirit indeed.

"Are you an aspiring author by chance? I find that the shopping for the supplies is just as fun as putting that first bit of ink on a new stack of paper. Like putting the first footprints on an expanse of sand."

His small pile included a smallish quill, the stack of paper he was currently enjoying and would soon include some of the black, green and blue inks. He was going to experiment with illustrating.

Nimia's skin flushed a darker indigo. "Ah, no, not me. My papa is though; he writes about the creatures he's seen in his travels." She wasn't so sure how far his work would have spread, but to her it was impressive enough. "I just like to read. I'm in the area visiting family and there's something about sitting on the beach with a new book, you know?" When her chores were done for the day she would hide away in the evening in a nice, secluded section of the beach and just escape into a good book. Sometimes it was a fantastical tale, others were a more studious venture, but they were always rewarding.

"Are you?" He certainly talked like one. The other didn't look much older than herself so if he was then he was thoroughly dedicated to the craft.

"I am working on it yes, I haven't actually finished anything but I'm learning a whole bunch from trying. The secret is to travel and write everyday. Apparently good authors use their own experience with the world and the book is just the medium by which they express that experience to others. But I feel like that is a bit deep. I write about creatures and people I have not ever met for example." That probably sounded stupid to her but he wasn't sure how else to explain it. It was like when he worked long enough with a character that he built a relationship with them and they then had their own voice and could voice their opinions. It was like having multiple consciouses at once.

As he spoke, Nimia found herself nodding along at certain points. "I think that's how my papa had so much to write about. Before they adopted my sister and I he traveled a lot. Sometimes it was with my Baba, sometimes it wasn't, but he saw a great deal." Growing up in a small, Zenan village had made their adventures sound all the more magical, and terrifying, though it only seemed to spurn her younger sister into more antics.

"It is deep, but I think it's a profound statement." Nimia shifted her items to her left arm so that she could adjust her glasses with the right. When she looked back up at him, thankfully seeing this time without the rim in the way, she smiled. "A good writer can turn the sky purple and make people believe it was always that way. I am curious though; about the creatures and places you've never seen. Are you making them up on your own or are you basing it off the things you've read?"

Finally he had found someone on what seemed to be his exact wavelength. "A bit of both, some of the stuff I make up, some of it from what I have read and seen and some from what I hear at public places, I can convince people to give me their stories sometimes then I alter them a bit and mix them with others until I have a product that makes me feel right. I guess its a bit like working a loom or any other large ungainly project. Sometimes I write in fits and starts and sometimes it flows out off me as seamlessly as a brook over smooth stones. You can guess which one is more enjoyable." He had ripped up quite a few pages in frustration.

Now that the weight of her stack was starting to get to her, Nimia awkwardly shifted her load until she could maneuver to a nearby table. The petite girl sat her things down and nodded. "It sounds a lot like dancing. Sometimes when I watch them it's like time stops for them and speeds up all at once. Once they've gotten into a rhythm it's really hard to catch their attention."

Having performers on both sides of her family meant that Nimia saw her fair share of spectacles, but the truth remained the same for each. Once they were well and truly enraptured by the craft there was no getting through.

"Are you from here or are you passing through?"

"I'm from Oba originally. I came here to find my Mom. She left me with my Dad when I was just a baby so I came here for closure. I haven't found her yet but I am liking Matori more and more. Its so lush and vibrant here and for the most part people are friendly. What about you?"

He was having a splendid time and set his stuff down on the other side of the table. She had a point it was getting heavy to stand and keep holding onto it.

"I just can't fathom how she could just leave you know? Dad said she wasn't the motherly type and well I spent my whole childhood missing her. Dad's family did a great job though, they were all I needed."

Nimia's eyes widened before empathy softened her overall demeanor. "I'm sorry you haven't been able to find her. If I was more familiar with the area I would offer to help, but to tell you the truth I don't know much about Matori. Just what I've picked up in my visits. I could always ask my grandparents, though, if you have a description? Maybe they've heard of her?"

It was a long shot, but her family had been established in the area long enough that it might work. At the very least they might have enough connections to trace someone back to him.

"I know I could never leave, but...I've never been in a position to make that call. I can't say what kind of person your mother is, but there might be more to the story than anyone knows." Nimia was playing both sides of the field with that stream of thought, but she couldn't help thinking of her own mother. The situation she and her younger sister had been in before...Maybe it was desperation that caused her to leave?

"You're lucky to have had a father like that. It doesn't fill the void, but it can make a difference."

"She looks a lot like me, but she has green/blue ombre hair and Matorian light orange eyes. She is full water tribe. I think she was a drifter and a baby would tie her down and force her to find a job. But you are right there could have been hidden reasons as well. "Her name is Tanagua." He wasn't sure if a name would help but it couldn't hurt in any case.

"He did a great job, had to travel for work but his family took to me despite my differences. I had a great childhood."

She was very sweet for offering help. It was so far the biggest quest of his life.

Even as he spoke the description aloud, Nimia was mumbling it under her breath and nodding at each key point. The mystery woman's physical attributes weren't so uncommon as to make her stand out, but at least it was a start. "Tanagua; got it. I'll be sure to pass it along and hopefully we'll find something for you." At the very least she'd like to be able to point him to a starting place.

"Um, sorry but, the way you say it...'forgive me for my differences'...Does that mean you don't have many hybrids in your family? They sound kind, but not all that experienced with those that are a little different." Feeling her cheeks warm again, Nimia cleared her throat with embarrassment. "Sorry, I know I'm reading into it, and please tell me to stop if it's uncomfortable. It's just that the men who took my sister and I in are hybrids with many in both of their families so it's...odd to hear other's stories."

"Thank you very much, I appreciate that." Academics loved trading information but it took someone with kindness in their soul to help on principle.

"No for the moment I am the only hybrid that I know of at least on Dad's side, not sure if Mom had any more kids after me."

"Don't worry I'm a bit of an open book, honestly its nice to chat with someone curious."

"My family accepted me well enough but even within our section of town there were not that many yet, its coming along though as people find love in different places." Oba had a big population though so it wasn't quite as quick to show in certain areas.

"They are for the most part very traditional but really its that they don't travel enough."

He noticed her blushing and did too, he was not even sure why. Just high empathy maybe...

"Traveling can get tricky sometimes so I don't really blame them. If my father's family wasn't this far south I don't think we would leave Zena as much." Which would have suited her just fine, actually. Nimia preferred a more sedentary lifestyle, where things were comfortable and organized. In her eyes it was because it made it easier for her baba Sol to get around, but in all actuality it was because new things were often such a shock to her. Papa Koril liked to get out, though, and so did her sister so here she was.

"Uhm, I'm going to take my things to the counter now so I'm not taking up too much space here, but...would you, uh, want to come with me? If you aren't busy I'm looking for shop that's supposed to sell magic tomes. I tried to find it yesterday, but I wasn't successful."

He quickly gathered his things, "Oh, I would really like that! It is not every day out here that I get to find someone who is just as interested in books as me. Thank you."

He was relatively sure he had made a new friend and was quite delighted at the prospect. She seemed grounded, intelligent and empathetic to his plight. He had gotten very lucky today.

Book and stationary stores were lucky like that.

He felt his heart lighten a little. He let her go first at the till and contented himself with glancing around the shop making sure he had not forgotten anything.
