Sae 1

She had dragged herself into the barn, her snaptrotter stomped over and dragged her mate closer so that he could hear her plaintive, soft cries.

"He took her...Ushi...Imma kill em...Elaxi...gone." She gasped out between great waves of pain as the stab wounds sapped her strength. She had used all of her life force to get here and now the blackness flickered at the corners of her sight.

"Won't leave...save Elaxi...can't see."

Pure stubborness had got her this far but the familiar, comforting barn seemed to release the last of her control. She reached an arm up but her face was tilted down.

Ushi 1

He had been brushing out the barn critters when Malibu barged in and clamped huge jaws on his arm. If he hadn't been the one to mostly train the snaptrotter he would have been worried that he was now on the menu but he decided to just relax and let Malibu (his mate's snaptrotter) drag him willingly to the aisle. Where he saw his worst nightmare.

"SAE!" He called and rushed to her, hearing her words grasping her hand, flipping her over and seeing blood pooling from three stab wounds despite the makeshift pad and bandage there.

"EINSOL!" He yelled at the top of his lungs.

His sister, off in the den, had been playing with her niece. The bright yellow Keldari she often brought in her sleeve had come out to join them, and was busy delighting Ushi's little girl by nuzzles and affection. So when her brother's cry rang out, Einsol's smile couldn't keep up with her head snapping towards the sound. It was there when she turned back to 'Chiri, a hand scritching behind blue ears. "I gotta go out for a lil' bit. Can ya keep Ray company for me? He gets scared when there's nobody around." At the girl's nod, she stood and strode off to the stables, scooping up her medical bag. And snatching up a good heavy stick for good measure.

The latter, as it turned out, was the less necessary. The scream rose up in her throat, and whatever escaped had the animals eyeing her nervously. It wasn't a growl, but only because earthlings didn't quite have the vocal setup for a good growl. But along with her cry, Einsol was busy setting her horror to more useful ends. It got her moving, got the knife from the bag and stuffed fiber pads in the other hand. She didn't bother with moving Sae's clothes, preferring to cut them away from the wound. Moments passed as she studied. In a voice colder than she moght have otherwise liked, Einsol snapped out commands. "Ushi, get me coals from the hearth an' a full kettle. Need to wash these an' sear 'em shut. Get Mama, an' send Papa off to fetch Feass, my teacher."

Sae 2

Saeruin looked up into the nearly glowing orange eyes of her Mate's sister.

"Ein...they took her..they took...my daughter..." Her mind wasn't tracking all that well but she loved Einsol as if she had been her own twin sister. Ein was beautiful and revengeful..she would make it so that that evil man didn't get away.

"He covered...her mouth...she was crying...reaching for me.. too much blood loss to fight.. Laxi uninjured that I could see...too small to fight..."

Oh she hurt..the morning after this was going to hurt but none of it compared to the pain in her soul. She felt like she was being ripped apart.

"...Kechiri...where...?" Was her other daughter okay? Would Kechiri ever forgive her?

Ushi 2

Ushi was grateful when his sister appeared. She was a solid guiding light at this time that his life had blown up on him. He would not recover if he lost Sae. He was shaking as he went to do her bidding, a part of him wanting to stay beside his mate another part knowing that he had only basic beast healing skills that were about on par with the wrap Sae had managed to get around herself before arriving.

He patted the anxious snaptrotter after he had handed her the stuff she had asked for. Still shaking..."Mom and Dad are out, I'll get your teacher myself."

"Okay." Ushiwa, as his sister would tell the world, thought further ahead than her. But Einsol thought more quickly in the moment, and focused more often on the now. With their parents elsewhere and her niece occupied in the den, she needed to stay here, with her patient. Ushi was the free agent here. She fished out a swatch of cloth between two fingers, passing it to her brother. "Then go write off a message, sayin' that I'm askin' Feass here right now. Give this to the messenger bird an' have it find her scent. Might need more hands to hold 'er; this'll hurt." The birds Kiyelt had been training weren't much good over distances. New methods over proven and all that. Good for short distances, tho', and that was what she needed.

With a pot of coals and the kettle set on top of it to boil, steady yellow eyes flicked up to Sae's. The horror quickly muddled, churned, frothed into fury. As quickly as it flashed in her face, the 'prentice healer held it tight, 'til it grew cold in her mind and burned. Certain things took priority, no matter her feelings, because personal wasn't the same as important. "'Chiri's safe. Right there in the house, takin' care of Ray. Need to get you whole before we chase 'Xi, or 'Chiri loses her mommy. An' that's unacceptable, Sae."

The knife she set beside the coals to warm, and clean linen strips laid on her lap. One hand kept the pad pressed to the wounds, pressure and absorption taken care of. Priority lay in staunching the flow of blood.

Sae 3

She looked up at her sister in law and loved her for the rage she displayed. She knew what was going to happen next was going to hurt like hell but it needed to be done. Besides Ein could help them take revenge after she helped to fix her. At least Kechiri was safe. It comforted Sae to know that Ray was with her.

"Malibu, if someone comes go to Kechiri and take her to safety."

It was highly unlikely that the people who took Elaxi would come here, they didn't know where Sae lived. But she wasn't exactly getting that much blood to her brain at the moment.

At least Ein was keeping Ushi calm, though she was sure that Ushi could have done the same for her at least Ein had a bit more training. And Ushi wouldn't have to do the cauterizing.

Right the messenger birds! This was the whole point of them. His parents were probably too far away sadly, his mother would have been good. But with wounds like Sae had it was probably best to get the healer who might be a bit better at stopping leaks in people as opposed to critters that had fought with each other.

He sped off to do his sisters bidding. So grateful that she kept him in the moment and was giving him directions when all he wanted to do was fall apart and perhaps burn down the village where his daughter had been taken.

He would find that lily livered good for nothing so and so. He would find him and he would make him look like a pin cushion.

He found the bird and gave it the scent, he stressed hurry and urgent and set it free watching it flap for a few seconds before returning to the barn after peeking on his other daughter who was content and unknowing. Gods bless Ray. The snake would attack any who dared come for his daughter, he thought. It wasn't proven because Ray was mostly a sweet little butter snek but one should not threaten those that Keldari loved.

As Ushi went off, the healer took a breath to steady herself. She wasn't much worried about a followupraid for different reasons. One was indeed Ray, her snuggle noodle. In fairness, keldari wouldn't do much more than deter a determined attacker. They weren't especially deadly on their own. But he would make and cause noise, possibly sicken or paralyze an attacker. And there was more than one barn full of trained beasts, some swifter than any earthling. Thus, Einsol was free to focus. And her brother was around to be useful, rather than off turning arson into a career.

Sae wasn't much more use at present. She was delirious enough to talk to the snaptrotter as though Malibu fully understood. They were smart enough, sure. Wouldn't be worth training otherwise. Training had limits, their father stressed. Something that complex was going to swish right over the scaly head. All this and more passed clean through the Matori girl, keeping pressure and waiting. "Hey. Hey! Focus on me, Sae. Keep talkin' to me. I need details. What was 'Xi wearin' today?" Better to distract her, keep the mother on task. Water took a short time to boil, and soon became hot enough to clean the pads and linens. The knife needed more. She briefly dipped a spare pad halfway in, letting it drain into hot dampness after. Cleaning around the wounds first took time, and Einsol got to dabbing as soon as she could.

Sae's winces could be ignored at need, and there was need. She dabbed in bursts, cycling between cleansing and keeping pressure. There were only so many hands to go around. Once most of the filth was away, the second part began. A mortar was fished out, some specific herbs plopped in the bowl, and a heavy pestle began applying itself under the blue fist. Leaves and stems crushed, juices mixing and saturating a rough poultice. Better to have it now, before it was needed. Once Ushiwa dashed back in, she'd hand it off to him to free herself up again. "Make that as close to a paste as you can. Bring it here when you've got it."

Sae 4

"What was she wearing? Oh that little blue dress with the white dots..we were going to market..she wanted shoes..." Sae wanted to cry but she wasn't sure there was even enough fluid left in her to do so. She wondered if hard salt tears were a thing.

"She is so small, he just scooped her up and walked off, snearing at me as I bled and tried to follow. I wish I was like one of those dragon things....would have.. ouch...roasted him on the spot."

He was not going to live long after that. He just didn't know it. SHE KNEW PEOPLE and she would do it herself. Wanted to do it herself.

His task complete he fell back under the guidance of his healer apprentice sister.

This next part..the cauterizing was going to hurt and he was sure it would feel nearly the same as Sae's labor pains had for him. Like he was being eviscerated but not actually feeling the pain. At least in labor there was no scent of burning flesh. At least in a branding it wasn't your wife's flesh being burned. Wounds like that would make scars which he was sure would be sexy if he could just forget this part of the process. But she had lost so much blood that this was the best course of action or they would loose her before the healer even got here.

"I'm ready." He assured his sister. He was a strong man, mentally and physically and he was going to have to prove it if he wanted to save his soul mate.

"Good to know; I hadn't seen 'er earlier. Keep talkin' to me, Sae. What'd the guy look like? You got jumped, so what'd his friends look like? Anything you can remember." Though she'd likely remember anything said herself, organizing things was something Einsol would need help for. A lot of things her sister was saying were and would be disjointed by light-headed delerium. Kept her occupied, too. They didn’t need the mother passing out yet.

Ushiwa had the right of it. No way around the pain here. Most of the numbing medicines his sister knew either took time to prime, prepare or would knock the patient out. As said, none would help any. For all they knew, Sae had taken a knock to the head and also had a concussion literally rattling her brains. More for the healer to deal with once diagnosing. Getting the poultice done before applying heat would help speed up the healing to come after.

Once he passed the bowl back, Einsol's head dipped in a sharp nod, eyes never leaving her patient for more than a moment. Three plump purple leaves were tossed in and ground more roughly in the mush, then the whole thing set aside. Now she took up the knife, holding the tip to the coals directly. The wounds were as clean as she could manage, and probably wouldn't fester. The blue girl found a moment to be grateful to the smith who'd made it, the handle wrapped in thick, layered leather. Once it all but glowed, she began to move. "Hold her down. We'll try an' make this quick, but I can't have her thrashin' me off." Without further ado, Einsol sat on her sister's thighs and waited on her brother. Once he got there, she would press the blade to the first at a careful angle...

Sae 5

A small part of her sorta knew what was coming. A large part of her did not care all that much.

Einsol really wanted her to talk. She did not want to talk...she wanted her daughter and a drink. Her lips were so dry, she was so thirsty.

She felt a pressure on her legs and vaguely looked down.

"Strange time for cuddles Einsol... you ...take after your brother more than.. I thought." Ushi loved to hold her at night and she loved it. She never felt alone..though he did snore rather less charmingly in her ear. Good thing the constant pounding of hot metal at the forge made her tolerant of earthquake level noises.

"Cuddle pile...*giggle*"

She must be mega drunk on blood loss.

Ushi 5

He wished this wasn't happening right now. But it had to. He kinda hoped Sae would bite him..she was welcome to give him a scar for what he was about to do to her.

He leaned over her torso. Trying to hide his own pain at her giggle at Einsol's cuddling.

It wasn't going to be "cuddling" for long.

"I'm so sorry Sae, your a fierce warrior princess you do what you gotta do."

"Okay Ein, she is secure." He held Sae's arms down with his own hands, he turned his face away. He didn't want to see any more of her pain as most of it was going to be shouted right into his ear.

A blink, and Einsol paused, reaching for something in her bag. Her twin's expression brought something home that she'd forgotten. A tight roll of leather, capped at either end with iron came out. The girl in the house didn't need to be quite so scared as she would later be. "I know. But you look like you need 'em. Bite down on this, Sae." She set the bar against her sister's mouth, waiting for her to agree. Once she humored the healer and chomped, the unhappy work began. Hopefully it would muffle the screams, keep her remaining niece from realizing it wasn't the cry of a beast.

Red hot iron pressed down to the wound for a second, then two. And up, then back down, the shallower stabs taking less time. In bare moments it was over, and Einsol was wrapping the poultice, setting it to the wounds. Thr blade was set on the floor, away from everything else, having served its purpose. There were no longer open holes, and so were no longer bleeding, which was the most important thing. Now it came down to infection, which was part of what the plants were for.

With clean linen, poultice and pad, the 'prentice got down to dressing the mess, more to keep it until her master arrived. It was a quick thing, meant for the fields and held down by wrapped pressure. Hopefully without blown-out eardrums, the next bit came less stern. "Good. Y'did good, Ushi. You can let her go now an' cuddle for real. Keep her head elevated. Dunno if she bonked her head yet." Einsol slipped off her patient's legs, no longer needing to stop her scrabbling away. "Y'still here, Sae? Y'thirsty?"
