Evan had gotten the text message about someone staying with them, but he’d been distracted while he was out with the food truck and hadn’t really processed it until he was just coming home. He’d reread the text message when he was in the driveway, and then again after he’d gotten the Food Truck into the garage.
He’d made one stop to donate his unsold food but he’d still come home with a few things and as soon as he opened the door, the aroma entered the house.
Soleiyu, he recognized. The gentleman next to him, he did not. He didn’t see Talia, so he looked around briefly but thought he might have heard the shower running.
Evan wasn’t an imposing sight; he was only a bit over five feet tall and yet somehow had the presence of a shadow. He wore an oversized sweater and was dressed in all black. “Um, hi,” he greeted, just before closing the door behind him.
Soleiyu looked up; he’d been sitting next to Todd. “Oh, there you are. Todd, this is Evan. He likes to make food. He’s our friend, too. Evan, Todd is going to stay with us.”
“Oh, okay,” Evan said; he stood still for a few seconds as he looked at Todd’s–well, his ears. “Um, it’s nice to meet you.”

Todd perked up when he'd heard the garage door, glancing at Soleiyu, but upon not seeing some kind of distressed reaction, relaxed back into the extremely comfortable sofa. "Hello," he said as pleasantly as he could make his voice work, coughing a bit from the effort. His voice was probably always going to sound somewhat crackled and rough from extreme disuse over so long a period of time. Which sucked, considering how much he seemed to need it, now. His ears flicked when he noticed Evan staring at them and he tilted his head. "Nice to meet you," he echoed, licking his lips slightly. Stars, he really wanted whatever Evan smelled like. He smelled like so much food (food scarce hungry hungry tired so hungry smell good—) His stomach suddenly growled loudly, and, aware he might have made some sort of blunder, blushed a bit and ducked his head. Don't get greedy, he told himself. They were already doing so much for him. He didn't realize he was still staring in Evan's direction and drooling from the amazing smells.

“Hello,” Evan parotted, and then had to shake his head to clear his scrambled thoughts. “You, um–are you hungry? I brought extra home, I didn’t know who was going to be here.”
He tried not to stare at his ears and had to shake his head.
…Except, his eyes went right back to them.
“Sorry,” he said quickly. “They look soft.”
Oh, that was–nice, Evan. Smooth. Creepy. You didn’t just go up to normal people and say ‘oh, your skin looks soft’ or ‘your hair looks soft’. Wild.
“I had a long day,” he blurted. “I’m like, not here right now. Here, do you want some food? I have a lot. You’re not a youma or anything, um…sorry, you–where did you say you’re from?”

Todd nodded. "Hungry," he confirmed, still feeling ashamed, face burning and ears tilting downward ever-so-slightly. But the attention to his ears made them stand right back up and he took a half-step forward, hesitating. "They soft," he said. "Want feel?" He looked Evan up and down, not feeling threatened in the least. The guy clearly had allowed access to the home, so he must have lived here. Todd was just staying. For a long time, probably. "I know long day," he said commiseratingly, nodding. He thumped his chest with his fist. "Well met, Evan. I am Senshi Fang of Chrysocyon. From Fang. Been alone on Fang for many year, then magic say, 'come to Earth', and take me." Talking. So much talking. He felt like all he'd done all day was talk, and he was so tired of it. But he couldn't afford to be so rude as to not explain who he was to someone who lived here. He rubbed at his throat and coughed a bit. The exertion sucked, and it took so much mental power, too, to speak... "Ly- sith-a and Solei- yu take me home. Say safe here." He turned to smile a bit at the Mauvian and wiggle his fingers at him. "Very good people."

Yes, actually, he really did want to touch them, but it seemed like he was violating his personal space if he accepted so Evan just flashed a smile and refrained. Barely.
“Oh, maybe in a bit. Thank you.” That wasn’t the ‘no’ he’d tried to say.
“You’ll definitely be safe here. I hope you like cheese, everything I’ve brought is covered in it.”
He began to unpack everything from his bag, and there was suddenly an array of options-broccoli and cheese soup, a few grilled cheese sandwiches, some fries covered in cheese. There were more, but he seemed to start with the easiest, tamest ones.
“Here, come eat as much as you want. It’s warm but they won’t be hot. It’s nice to meet you, all of that sounds–well, I don’t know. It sounds like you’ve been through a lot. Soleiyu and Lysithea are very good people. Have you met–oh, yeah. Of course you’ve met Maxim,” he said, watching as his dog looked like he was prancing around Todd as he moved.
“Well–we’re happy to have you. Are you going to stay on Earth for a while?”

"Cheese?" he repeated, eyes sparking to joy as he crowded forward for a moment, then stepped back as he realized he was probably way too close for poor Evan's comfort. But cheese was such a rare luxury back on Fang, even when there had been some people and animals still alive. Things were dying quickly and the process took ages and while people in the village he'd come to rest nearby cared for him, getting cheese was very rare for him. "Maxim good," he confirmed, reaching out to pet and giggle at the dog as he pranced around. "Todd... will stay long time. Fang... very dead. Almost died." His ears and tail wilted, tail especially, as it sung very slowly and gently between his knees. "Sad about Fang, but... hope Earth can help. Somehow."

He was close, but Evan would have been jittery even if he’d been a foot away. He smiled reassuringly when he moved. It didn’t take long for the sadness to track on his face, but he forced himself to smile again.
“I’m sorry to hear about Fang. If–well–my world wasn’t looking so good when I first awakened. It’s looking better now, so I bet there’s something we can do to help your world, too. But the most important thing right now is to get you healthy and taken care of. So you can eat as much as you want. If you like anything, I can make you more. And if you don’t like something–well, I can just make you something different, so it’s okay. But you’re home, you stay for as long as you need. We’ll all have your back.”
Maxim pushed his head into Todd’s hand, more so when he looked sad, and he lapped at his fingers briefly. If Todd wasn’t going to eat the cheese, Maxim definitely wanted it.
Soleiyu was already getting used to Fang being here and relaxed as he watched Evan welcoming him. Of course he’d been a little worried–Evan was jittery and jumpy and a bundle of nerves, but he seemed to be warming up quickly.
Zac was the only one he expected to be a problem, but for now he could at least appreciate that Todd and Evan apparently shared an affinity for cheese.

"You are... chef! Ly- sith-ia...I mean, Talia... explained that Evan!! Chef!!" he exclaimed, ears perking up as his tail began to wag slowly. He couldn't help clapping a bit. "I think I will like what you have. Cheese so good... been so long since had cheese..." His mouth watered and he drooled without wiping it away. "And... will love help for world to get better. Like Evan say. Want Fang to live again. Miss the Chrysocyon so much..." He got wistful at the end, and shook his head slightly, firmly fixating on the cheese again. He was so hungry. "Todd will probably be hungry for... ever," he confessed sheepishly, tail still wagging. "Thank you. Very much."

“I won’t let you be hungry forever,” Evan reassured. He was still a little nervous but it seemed like Todd was quickly winning him over. “I like to cook. The kitchen is my safe space. I know I can be a little protective, but I promise I won’t be scary if you want anything in there. And you can come get me at any time if you want me to whip you up something. I usually keep leftovers in the fridge, you’re welcome to whatever you find in there.”
Though all of this was unexpected, he wasn’t unhappy with their sudden guest. The tail wagging probably had something to do with it, or the way his ears seemed to move so expressively.
“We have no shortage of cheese. Or food. So, um. I hope we can be friends, Todd. It’s getting a little late, I know I’ve gotta start getting ready for bed–and I can only imagine how worn out you must be. But, I’m looking forward to getting to know you.”

"Friends," Todd agreed, beaming. "Yes, rest. Rest important. But tomorrow, talk. And eat." He grinned, looking forward to the leftovers Evan had, and then getting to know the people he lived with tomorrow. Life would be good here, he could tell.
