Just ask a cat!
Well, it wasn't as if she knew many cats, but she was going to try her best. Now that she had concluded that her signet ring worked following several returned messages of confirmation, including one that was a direct enquiry as to why she thought it wouldn't work from space, she was going to do exactly what she had seen others do. The short of it? Well she had sent out a random 'text' to one of her existing contacts with a query as to whether or not they were aware of a Mauvian who would be willing to help.
The answer? Yes, they did, and she had already met them before so it was probably a good idea not to admit that she had forgotten they were there. Fortunately for her that particular Mauvian had been very understanding about the fact her memory was fuzzy given that the Page's starseed had been torn from her body and she hadn't really been aware of the world around her even when she'd come to. It was surprising how much of a shock to a system that had been and even now she wasn't entirely clear on all the details.
"Well!" The Mauvian finally piped up and shifted her set of spectacles away from her nose. She'd been inspecting the peculiar blueprint that Serenitatis had found after exploring her Wonder for a short while after she'd found the ring. It had been complete gibberish to Serenitatis, but based on what Idavollr had said, a Mauvian would have been able to make sense of it.
"Am I missing pieces?" Serenitatis hazarded. Quite frankly she wouldn't have been surprised if she was. It seemed that certain things about being a Knight meant, more often than not, that she was meant to go through certain trials and tests in order to achieve her aims. She wasn't against it now that she understood that all of those trials owuld help her to understand why some things needed to be done in a specific manner... But she wouldn't have put it passed herself to be missing something that was fundamental.
"Oh, no no," Namielle chuckled and slipepd her spectacles back on to read the finer small print on the plans. It was surprisingly simple for such a device and she had thought she'd need considerably more time to perform the upgrade, but whoever had managed to make the original design had been quite extraordinary. "But I will need that my dear," she pointed towards the ring, at which point Serenitatis slipped it from her finger and extended it out.
The cat got to work.
Serenitatis waited.
Five minutes passed, and then ten, until it became clear to the Page that it might be best for her to take a seat and admire the view while the Mauvian worked through whatever it was she needed to do. In the end it would be of benefit to her right? She wouldn't need to stock up on paper and pens anymore, it would just do the thing and she'd be in the 21st Century instead of the 16th? Granted, even after this was complete a small part of Serenitatis reminded herself that it was always advisable to plan for redundancies and just in case it broke it might be smart for her to carry some paper anyway.
As a new Page she wasn't aware of how reliable the technology was, but she'd heard of how often magic could backfire or behave in an unusual manner and given past experiences she wanted to be prepared. She had made a promise after all and she very much intended to keep that.
Patience, preplanning, calling for help. Always be prepared.
"And I believe we are finished!" The voice piped up thirty minutes later and the Mauvian held the ring out for her to inspect again. To be entirely honest it didn't look a whole lot different but there did appear to be the smallest little diamond on the side that if touched, resulted in a small screen flicking up like a hologram.
"Oh!" Serenitatis smiled as she pressed the little diamond repeatedly to switch it on and off.
"It'll take some getting used to, but you should be able to just talk into it now and it'll send your messages without paper," she chuckled. "There are some other features as well, but you can find those at your leisure," she waved a paw.
"Thank you, Namielle," she murmured as she slipped the ring back on to her finger and knelt down to provide the feline with a delicate pat.
"Any time," the Ragdoll replied and then shook her head. "But given how long we've been sitting here I would suggest we move, lest we attract the attention of the overly curious," she warned. It was with that, that the mauvian beckoned for the young woman to follow her.
While Serenitatis wasn't entirely clear on where they were going she followed obediently anyway. It was important to learn and this would be a good opportunity. Alas, little did the Page know that on this occasion she wouldn't be doing overly much in terms of 'work' in the company of the Mauvian, instead she was to be invited to an evening meal at a little corner cafe. Not an unwelcome change, but certainly an unexpected one!
