Lionel loved when he could make trips to the fabric store. It was such a soothing place to visit, or at least…it would be if it didn’t have so many choices. He loved choices, obviously but…the sheer amount in the store was intoxicating. Today he was just getting samples, but was putting all of his choices on hold just in case others wanted to purchase them as well. He wouldn’t be without what he needed. After all, he had a very varied set of projects to make.
First there was the fabric for Ei, a raspberry lace that would match some of her tattoos and a black lace as well, with an intricate butterfly pattern. It wouldn’t be overused, but it would give the most delightful peep to the artwork that adorned her skin.
Well, that and the lace sleeves he had envisioned, that would be the use for the black lace…it might be too much, but goodness, he hoped she would like it. There were more dark satin’s, some leathers, all in warm shades of red or pink, and one or two tending towards purple. Regardless of what she actually chose, he would make sure it was all beautiful and feminine, just the way she wanted.
When all of Ei’s fabrics had been set aside, he moved to find more…gentle fabrics, for alien and hamster. If anyone had told him a year ago that he would be making clothes for such people…and animals…Lionel would have laughed in their face and then done his best to make sure he never spoke to whoever had the gall to make such a claim ever again. But…here he was.
He had a few ideas, both Andy and Steve were cute...and they deserved to look as cute as they were. Obviously Steve did that easily simply by virtue of being a hamster, but Andy…
Andy was precious, and he deserved to look as precious as he was…and that meant oversized sleeves, pastel fabrics. Anything that would make him look adorable.
There was a light blue fabric shot through with threads of shiny silver, and Lionel’s eyes gleamed.
The good part about designing for Andrei and Steve…was that he didn’t really have to ask their opinions. He had ideas and he would do them, and this fabric was as soft as suede, but still light. It would be perfect for the summer,
He found another, white with soft, faded flowers printed on it and purchased a few yards of it too.
Finally, he purchased a plain straw hat, as well as a miniature one, clearly meant for a doll and slipped them into his basket.
If he was going to make two sets of outfits, then the two would have matching hats…and nobody could stop him. Even better if he could…
Lionel laughed, pleased with his decisions as he moved to check out. The hat would be completely versatile, he would make several ribbons so that no matter which outfit the two wore, their hats would match.
It would be perfect. And now that he has his fabric…it was time to create.
