If ever there was a target audience for gossip about hidden treasures it was Siel. The young hybrid had already stripped himself of his top and rolled his loose pants up to the knee by the time the shop vendors had even given him a direction to go in. Heedless of the way the older women snickered at him, Siel headed headlong into the activity as if it were the greatest quest of all.
Whatever he found could either be used to fund his endeavors, his families or made into some sort of jewelry by his Baba. So, why shouldn't he give it a shot? The thing of it was he didn't like doing these sorts of things by himself. Morain was busy, Papa was sharpening his swords and Lutana was back in Jauhar which left Baba.
Even if he was technically an adult by societal standards he'd still drug his poor father away from the days work to play around in water. And he didn't care one single bit.

Considering the fact that he and Callum had only just decided to try for more children, Nimueh was ... probably in the prefect mental space for Siel to get him to agree to spending time together. Forgetting the fact that Siel was getting older, old enough to strike out on his own and even marry (and even father children himself, though that was something Nimueh made it a point not to think about), Siel was still his son and Nim couldn't find it in himself to deny him.
Even if it meant a stern, unimpressed look from the Yaeli man he was meant to be working for that day, and the promise of missed wages for the day.
Nim stood by the edge of the stream, tying his long hair higher up so that it wouldn't dip into the river if he waded too far, watching as Siel bounded into the river.
"I can't say I've ever found stones this way. What was if the vendors said, exactly?" Nim called to him, inspecting the basket his son had given him curiously.

"They said during last week's storm there was a caravan that crossed the river when they should have waited. When the water took it everyone got out safely, but their goods were washed down stream." As he spoke Siel found himself focusing on the stones below. They were slick to the touch and more than once his feet slid on the slimey terrain. "I've heard a lot of talk about gold and jewels, but I'm not sure if it's just gossip or if there's some truth to it." Either way it couldn't hurt to look, could it? It might be enough to cover a weeks wages or more.
Having been raised in Matori, Siel was more used to the give and take of an ocean wave than the steady presence of the river. Still, it didn't take him long to adjust and soon enough he was crouching in the steady pulse to dip his equipment in. "Would it be okay if I brought someone to dinner tomorrow night? Or will you....uhm, be with Azusa?"

"I... see." Nimueh said, pursing his lips in thought. The idea of getting rich off some other family's misfortune left a bitter taste in his mouth, and yet... if the alternative was for the goods to hide away in the rivers of Yael, he couldn't fault people for looking for them. "Well, the river is refreshing. It'll be a nice day, regardless of whatever we find."
So, he stooped and began to sift, though he paused mid motion at the question. They'd told their children about the potential for new siblings, but - it wasn't in his nature to discuss the specifics. They knew they were born from surrogates, of course, that was a fact of life, but he still had very little desire to discuss it with his son.
"I expect I'll be home." He said, crisply, in response, continuing to sift. "Of course you can. Is this a... special someone or a friend?" Because his son, like his father, had no shortage of people pining after his attentions - but not many he would bring home.

Siel wasn't naive and while he didn't like to think about how his fathers came about their children he knew it involved others. It was a problem unique to same sex couples; one that his brother Sol had as well, he assumed. He'd adopted, though, which was infinitely easier on Siel's mind than the thought of his Baba sneaking out like some teenager.
"A special friend." Lifting a pan full of river muck, Siel gave it a few good shakes and watched as dollops plopped back down into the water. Unfortunately all that was left behind were a few stones so he started the process over again. "She started out as just....a friend but we've been spending a lot of time together and I like her. Thing is I'm pretty sure she's only coming because she wants to see Morain."

For an awkward, even tense moment, Nimueh feared Siel might press the topic. But, thankfully, he let it lie, and together the two sifted through their respective pans of muck. Unlike Siel, Nimueh paused to consider the stones he'd unearthed, plucking them from the river and turning them, this way and that, to inspect them. Nothing too unique, but he tended to like rocks in general - so a few of them ended up pocketed, before he moved to the next scoop.
He... wasn't quite prepared for the dramatic story his son was illustrating for him. Yes, his eldest children were married and had children of their own, but it still startled him to recognize that his younger children were seeing other people. It was startling enough to know that Siel and Morain, in their own ways, were just as prolific as Callum was in a certain regard.
"... I suppose I will see what you mean at dinner?" Nimueh said, frowning. "Morain is hardly the type to play hard to get with pretty young people. If she wanted to see him, why go through you? Is that the sort of person you want to get closer to, if that's true?"

"I wish I knew," Siel groused. Bit by bit his search slowed down to barely an effort as if his mind were too wrapped up in the topic of 'young love'. Honestly, was it even really love? He liked spending time with her, she took over his mind, but would he want with her what his fathers had?
"I know I shouldn't. She's messing with me; has to be. It's not like I haven't tried to go after girls that liked him better before, but at least they were honest." Oh, he was so bitter over it and a little at Morain too. Of course Siel knew that Morain had nothing to do with it, likely didn't even know any of this was going on, but he wanted to hit him sometimes just to relieve the tension. "Gods though, baba, she has this piercing on her tongue and-" Stopping himself, Siel puffed up his cheeks and looked up.
"I think I found some silver. I might just...how about you take it and forget I said that last part?"

Nimueh ached for his son, but he also felt strangely content. It pleased him, that awkward as it was his children wanted to speak with him like this about things that worried them... was it a bad thing, to feel so happy, when his son was clearly upset? So he molded his expression into quiet contemplation, instead, and continued the work patiently, even when nothing seemed to come of it.
"A piercing, huh?" Nim shot back with faux interest, arching a rounded brow at him, only to huff out a chuckle when Siel immediately became embarrassed by his slip. Nimueh wouldn't have known the significance of a piercing like that, if his husband hadn't talked to him before about such things.
"Hmm. I suppose." He conceded as he took the bit of silver, grunting as he straightened out his spine and held it up to inspect it in the sun. It was a small piece, but if he melted it down and removed the impurities it would still be a lovely accent, melted onto jewelry in just the right spots.
"I think you know what I suggest you do." He said, at length, reluctantly picking up his sieve again. It made sense, to him, that if Morain might want to be apprised of the situation; then, perhaps, he could either act indifferent to the girl and make it clear he wasn't interested, or maybe make himself scarce at dinner, as a favor to his brother?

Despite the situation, Siel had to grin and a little devilish flush colored his darkened cheeks. "Yeah, it's pretty great." Was it terrible that even if he knew she was trying to get closer to his brother that he didn't want to stop spending time with her? He should have, for his own sake, but well...Siel was invested in more ways than one.
It may have been the first time he'd actually tried to give his heart to a girl instead of his heart and it hurt to be rejected.
"...I know, it just..." He shuffled his feet against the slick river rocks with an exhausted huff. "What if they would actually be good for each other though? What if it turned out that Morain actually liked her and she was good for him...Wouldn't it be bad if I stopped that?"

Ugh. Nim hoped Siel wasn't suggesting what he thought he was. He exhaled heavily through his nose, shaking his head as he took another scoop of river muck. As for Siel's concerns... Nimueh wished he could say with great confidence how Morain would feel about the situation, but his other son had been much less... honest about his feelings to Nimueh, regarding romancing others.
"If you knew for a fact he felt this way about the girl, then perhaps sabotaging it would be ... 'bad'." Nimueh conceded, "You have a close relationship with your brother, closer than many siblings. I suggest you trust that he would be honest with you, and if he felt something for the girl he'd tell you-- ah."
Nimueh paused and picked up what looked to be another lump of mottled silver in his basket, expression brightening somewhat. It wasn't the gemstones they'd been hoping for, but he was as delighted at the silver as he had been with the piece his son gifted him.

"This would be so much easier if...." Siel took a deep breath and reached up to pinch the bridge of his nose. "...if I were still in Matori with my friends. Not that I don't like talking to you Baba, but this is...it's awkward, y'know? But I'm going crazy just thinking about it." Siel had met a great many people during his travels, but most of his close connections were in Matori. He wrote to them when he visited other lands, and tried to visit as often as he could. There were things he'd been able to discuss with them that he hadn't with anyone else and that was saying something considering just how much he'd shared with his triplet siblings.
"I think I've found all that I'm gonna find today. What about you? Wanna keep looking or are you good?"

Nimueh kept his expression carefully restrained into a mildly curious expression, so as not to show the flash of guilt that stabbed through him. He didn't hold his son's honesty against him, not at all, but he also wished he could offer some sort of solace. He opened his mouth to commiserate, perhaps, or to offer some half-baked advice because that was what he felt his son wanted - but Siel interjected, and instead the older man nodded, murmuring quietly that he was good to go, brows slightly furrowed.
Dumping the last of the sludge from his basket, Nim propped it against his hip and, instead, watching his son as the two of them waded back to the shore of the river. "Awkward though it is, I'm glad you're talking about it." He finally said, half expecting his son to cringe or to wave him to quiet down. There was a point, with many teens, where they rather disliked their parents poking their noses too far into their business. "... if talking to Morain isn't an option, then talking to her should be. If I stayed quiet any time your father confused me, I don't think we would have gotten anywhere."

He was right and that was what weighed heaviest on Siel's heart. No one was ever going to come between him and his favorite brother, but having that rift, even if Morain wasn't aware of it, made talking to him a challenge. And yet...talking to her might be worse. Hefting his pan up, Siel gave it a few good shakes in the water to clean it out before lugging his way to shore.
"...I'm curious, but I don't want to know. I really don't want to look into that." Maybe it was a misunderstanding between his fathers, maybe it was something more; Siel really didn't care. There was something about sharing his experiences with his baba that felt natural, but anything regarding the bare basics of his own relationship left Siel's lip curling.
"I'll talk to him, just in case...but I won't like it."

Mmhm. There it was. Nimueh smiled, good-naturedly and only a little embarrassed, and didn't elaborate. His son looked horrified enough. "That's all I can ask for." He reassured, warmly, then reached out, patting his shoulder... then, with a nudge, he deposited the most recently found silver into his palm. "There. I feel a refund is appropriate, given the awkwardness of the conversation." He laughed, softly, pat his shoulder again, then continued dragging himself out of the river.
