Yngvara didn't have many friends. In fact, she didn't really talk to many people at all, much less those her own age and that had become something of a concern for her mother. As much as Sylvirah praised her daughter's strong work ethic and dedication to the craft she also knew that if their clan was to flourish Yngvara would someday need to make a connection and on a much more basic level she simply wanted her to be happy. Yet, she was happy now so why ruin it with a blind date?
She'd been told to wear something 'nice, like her father would wear' and wait outside the inn. What she'd done was wear exactly what she wore every day with the exception of a bath. If her date didn't like leather then that was her problem, wasn't it? And a girl...She'd never been particular on genders for partners so her mother hadn't been particular when looking. All she knew was that it was her, another hybrid, and that her name was Honi.
Hopefully she'd take one look at Yngvara, get scared and leave.

Bundled up in a few thick layers, Honi was nonetheless grinning from ear to ear. Who would have thought that a trip to Zena with her friends would turn into an opportunity for a date? There was a new trend sweeping Tendaji, and her pals had been fully swept into whirlwind of it all. She had already been set up with two blind dates. One had gone well but there was no attraction, and the other.. had literally gone down in flames. She was eager to move on from that memory... She pulled her scarf a little tighter to protect herself against the bite of the breeze as she headed for the inn, but stopped short when she saw someone standing there. A handsome looking young woman... who looked perfectly content in the chill. She glanced down at her layers and sighed. She was going to look silly, wasn't she..? She wasn't about to take off any layers just to impress someone else though! Straightening her back as much as she could, she pulled back on her earlier eagerness to approach the girl. "Hi! Are y-you here for th-the d-d-date?" she asked through chattering teeth.

Yngvara raised a hand to hold back her hair as a stray wind threatened to blind her with it. When the wind had died down enough for her to tuck the dark locks behind a long, pointed ear Yngvara noticed a young woman coming her way. She'd been told that her date was a hybrid like herself, and one of matorian descent, but Yngvara had never actually seen a matorian before today. So, to say she was a little surprised to see fins popping out over a scarf would have been an understatement. "I am." For one bundled so tightly Yngvara couldn't imagine why she was shaking so much. "Come, this way; we'll get you warmed up." If she'd been a mage then perhaps Yngvara could have used a spell to help and then they could have stayed outdoors. In leu of any magical talent the teenager settled for leading them toward a little tavern. When she opened the door and ushered the other girl inside the smell of mulled wine filled her senses. It was easy to see a bevy of others inside, munching on warm bowls of stew and conversing at their tables. "I take it you don't come north often." Yngvara remarked with a light smile. Spotting a table near the window, she led the way forward and stalled. She'd been told that men were supposed to pull out the seat for their dates, but they were both women so...what now?

Warm! Yngvara had said the magic word, and Honi followed her readily. She instantly felt better once they were out of the wind, her posture relaxing with relief. It smelled so good in here, too! Something hot to drink would be perfect. "Th-this is," she paused to take a breath and relax the lingering chills. She wasn't about to stutter through the whole date! "This is my first time here. I actually live in Matori." Honi would have helped herself to a seat if Yngvara hadn't stalled. She noticed the pause though, and she caught herself. She looked at the chair she already had a hand on. Oh! Giggling, she stepped aside and pulled it out for Yngvara to sit. That was what her first date had done! "I'm visiting Zena with some friends. I'm half Zenan, through my papa. I always wanted to see it myself."

Ah, well, that solved that then. Smiling a little brighter now, Yngvara took the offered seat and scooted a little closer to the table. Once she was well and truly comfortable the hybrid started to take her gloves off finger by finger. "Matori...Long way to go for your father and longer still for you. Hopefully you're at least enjoying yourself." She personally couldn't imagine making a trip like that without some sort of business purpose in mind, but the allure of seeing your homeland was there. Her own mother's people were from the mountain and pilgrimages weren't uncommon enough for her to judge Honi's curiosity. "What sorts of things do you do, Honi? Are you a huntress? A trader? Craftsman?"

Honi walked over to her own seat and paused to take off her heavy coat. Now that they were inside, she could go without a layer or two. "I don't know how long it took papa, but it did take us a few days. We were enjoying the sights along the way so there were lots of stops. It's been fun so far." Time always passed faster when one was with friends. "Is it safe to assume you live around here?" The question earned an eager smile. "I'm an artist! I like painting and sewing and all that stuff, but my favorite is pottery." She reached into the mass of cloth at her neck and scrounged around before she pulled out a necklace with a clay pendant shaped like a starfish with a fair amount of detail. "Like this."

Yngvara nodded her head. "I'm part of the Ild'vann and we used to live on the mountain before I was born. From I've been told winters were harsh on the herds and the tribe had to descend in order to survive." A part of her had always wondered what living on the mountain year long must have been like. Just the ascent for their yearly pilgrimage was a feat for her. "They rebuilt on an old estate my father's family inherited. You're welcome to visit, should you wish to." Spreading word about their tribe might encourage others to join and they could only hope to bolster numbers. Painting...and pottery... Those were...useful hobbies, but Yngvara had hoped to hear of something more substantial. Or maybe that was in the south? Despite her efforts not to let her emotions show the aversion was clear. "...and you can support yourself with this?" Still, she kept quiet as Honi searched for something and Yngvara had to admit that the pendant was pretty. Ultimately a trinket for idle hands, but pretty. "It's very well made. You've obviously spent a lot of time with your craft."

Honi's eyes widened. "Wow.." she breathed in awe. It was fascinating to hear about those who had to actually fight for survival. It was a sharp reminder of how far people had come, and how some still had rough living. And an invitation to visit? "Maybe I will," she chirped. "I do want to see as much as I can while I'm here." She was taken aback by the other's immediate distaste for her craft... Her smile remained though, albeit a bit smaller. "Mostly. I'm still making a name for myself. It'll get better once my creations get recognized as mine and I get better at it. Things like the cooking pots sell the best, but I have more fun with the sculptures." The observation did help encourage her, and she nodded lightly. "Since I was little; and having the different mediums keeps it interesting." She wiggled the necklace back into place. "What about you?" She couldn't help a playful glint in her eyes. "I'm guessing... you're a guard at your estate." It had to be something tough!

Even though the clan had made their home closer to Zidel in recent years they didn't have many visitors. Tradesmen were reluctant to start up ties with the more barbaric tribe, but those that did were treated well. Her father's smooth talking no doubt helped, as well as his familial ties. Maybe having Honi come around could help with that? She might be able to tell others and they could continue to grow. "We have no need for guards; anyone foolish enough to attack us may as well fashion their own pyre." No matter how heavy the statement was Yngvara said it lightly and help up her hand to attract a passing server. "Can I have a honeyed mead, some stew and whatever she wants?" Turning to Honi, she gave an encouraging smile. "Something warm to fill your bones?"Thinking on what she actually did though gave Yngvara pause and after the server walked away she decided to answer. "I'd say I'm more of a tracker? A huntress? I don't know what you'd call it, really. I like to hunt and I do some crafting myself but with leather." She held up her forearm and turned it, showing off her bracers. "They're not as nice as what you'd find in the market, but they work."

Well, that sounded downright intimidating! Considering that Yngvara was a product of this clan, Honi had little trouble imagining a rough and tough people that could scare you off with nothing more than a look if you meant them harm. Everyone there worthy of guarding without needing active sentinels... Intimidating, but certainly worth a look! "I'll also have the stew, but with a hot chocolate to drink, please," she said to the server with an eager smile. After all of this, she was going to get herself a hot bath and curl up in bed to fend off the chill. Until then a hot drink and stew would do perfectly! "Hunting and leatherwork? Those make sense. Hunt for the leather and then use the leather for hunting." She leaned forward for a closer look at the bracers, turning her head for different angles. "As long as they work, right? Have you thought about talking to any of the leatherworkers about making yours more interesting and personalized? It could be decorative and useful if done right."

To help with Honi's inspection, Yngvara slowly rotated her forearm and lifted it at different angles before ultimately dropping her arm back under the table. "I've thought about it from time to time, but honestly anytime I'm this close to people who aren't Ild'vann I'm visiting family. I suppose I could ask them to go sometime." Her Aunt definitely, but Ergon...He'd go, but he would be grumpy the whole time. Comparatively her bracers were basic when paired against her necklace. While they were far more useful they just didn't catch the eye and maybe...maybe she might like something that did.

Honi cocked her head again, her fingers gently rubbing together. She could see the different patterns that could be stitched or burned into the leather, her mind's eye weaving multiple shapes and- ..well, now wasn't really the time. "It would just add a little something special to make them your own." She raised her eyes from the bracers and smiled with curiosity. "What is something you have or do that's just for you?"

"Just for me?" Yngvara sat back in her seat a bit with a sort of confused look. She enjoyed a great many things, but most of them had a use and she even those she did on her own were for the greater good. "I don't really...huh." Did she really have nothing that set her apart? Personality wise surely, since she was far more serious than her elder brother, and yet... "I suppose, if I had to claim something then it would be Stjerne." It was a stretch, but maybe her familiar counted? "She is a sermal. My father's people rescued her as a cub and took her back to the sanctuary they keep. She bonded with me so I brought her north." Lifting the stew, she held the warm bowl with one hand and dipped her spoon with the other. "No one else in my clan hunts with a sermal; if anything, the Ild'vann were made for flying. We ride atop mounts like raptrix and chiavi. I prefer to hunt on the ground with her, though."

She waited patiently for Ygnvara to work through her response. Getting lost in the daily grind was easy, and the tough young woman certainly seemed like the type to forget about herself. Seeing her reach inside for an answer was, frankly, adorable. There it was! "You own a sermal! That's amazing," she cooed. Would she be able to meet this Stjerne if she visited the clan? Maybe! "That in itself is certain special. It sounds like you're really making your own niche in the clan." She picked up her cup and blew on the hot drink before taking a sip. It was so rich and creamy, and chased off whatever chill remained from the walk on the way there. If nothing else, she was certainly enjoying meeting this young woman who was such an opposite of herself!
