A new craze is sweeping across Tendaji and everyone from the rich to the nomads are finding themselves swept into the excitement. Even you have heard about this new trend of going out into the world and hunting for treasure.
For the seasoned treasure hunters, it's a bit laughable to think it's just that easy to go and get rich, but they can appreciate the enjoyment many are getting from wading into the rivers and streams, sifting through stone, and occasionally pulling up a precious treasure to call their own.
But how easy is it, really? And are you lucky enough to strike gold?
[ IThis event prompt includes an extra step - you will need to roll a dice and react to the result. Will you be lucky enough to find something precious? Or just come up with a few rocks and cold feet?
Only the gods of luck will know - but fortune always favored the bold. So head on over to your local body of water, bring a sifting tool that many have claimed works like a charm, and see what comes up with this hot new craze. ]
Roll 2d20
Roll 1
1: Epic Fail! Oh no, you didn't find anything at all. Respond to the WE by explaining the experience and how your character feels with the results.
2 - 10: Something Shiny That looks promising... Use the second roll to calculate your results.
11 - 20: Lucky Lucky! You seem to have struck gold...or something similar. Use the second roll to calculate your results...and add +5 to the number.
Roll 2
1 - 5: Better Than Nothing A common gemstone...maybe it fell off a passing traveler. You could probably put it to use.
6 - 10: A Little Silver Silver is nice, it can be shaped to jewelry or traded for something more. It's not a lot, but it's worth something.
11 - 15: Golden Treasure! Gold, and a good amount! It's not a bar or anything, but you could use it to make some jewelry.
16 - 20: What Luck! Wow - this is a rare gemstone not seen around these parts. While not big, it's still something you could add to a necklace or ring.
21-24: Amazing! You pull out a rock that has quite a few gemstones poking out, which means there's more inside. This could be enough to create a jewelry set, or even sell it raw for a good amount of coin.
25: Unbelievable! How did you not notice the amount of gemstones in the water? Now that you look at it, they shimmer and shine a rainbow of colors. You've struck rich...and wonder how they all got here as you search for a bag to hold to prize.
Whatever your results...respond to the WE by explaining the experience and how your character feels with the results.
11 - 20: Lucky Lucky! You seem to have struck gold...or something similar. Use the second roll to calculate your results...and add +5 to the number.

Imri stood in the river with water splashing up around his knees and his hands on his hips. The river was strong - though, to an adult, it most certainly was not - and yet he wouldn't be defeated! Somewhere beneath the surface was a treasure that was just waiting to be found. Riches beyond his wildest dreams...Gold in such amounts that he would never have need again! Of course he may have been embellishing what he'd heard others saying, but it made little difference to the child.
Without the proper tools for sifting through river silt, Imri instead had shown up with a plate that he'd jabbed several holes in with a dagger. Surely that would work the same as a sifter, right? And if his mothers got angry over the damaged plate he'd buy them ten more!

Leave it to Imri to wonder off... again. Zivah scowled to herself as she went looking for her brother, knowing that if their mothers got home and they weren't there they'd be in so much trouble! It wasn't often that the two children were left home on their own, but both parents had had business, and had entrusted the house to them.
After what felt like hours of looking, she spotted him - and stomped to the river, hands propped on her hips. "What are you doing? You're gonna drown yourself!"

The moment Zivah started speaking Imri felt compelled to walk further into the river. Powered by spite alone, the young boy stepped deeper into the water and held up his hands as if to say 'what are you gonna do? huh?'. "Buzz off, Zivah. Just go home if you're going to bother me; I'm working."
Flashing his 'pan' off a little, the boy dipped down into the water and started his search. It was harder to stand straight now that he was further out, but Imri was stubbornly determined. He was going to find something really nice and -
"Omph!" And just like that, he slipped and fell into the river.

"Working! Hah-- you don't know what work is, you're just playing in the river, runt!" She scoffed at him, making a dismissive motion with her hand. She crossed her arms and watched, unimpressed, as he flailed about with his strange pan, and at first she almost took his advice and went to stomp away - but then he stumbled, and immediately she jolted, on alert.
Zivah wasn't particularly fond of her brother, but that didn't mean she wanted him to drown - if he did, their moms would kill her! So she shot forward, wading in the water towards him, reaching to grab at his arms to make sure he didn't get swept away with the weak pull of the river. "Look - that's what fools get, for not respecting the river right." She sneered, patting at his cheeks despite her sharp words to make sure he was aware and looking at her.
"What are you hoping for, huh? To catch some crabs with that silly thing?"

"I'd rather be a fool than ugly. You look like the backside of a limbara and you're as dumb as one too." Wise words from a boy who was currently coughing up river water. His nose burned something fierce and even though he was trying his best to stand on his own Imri had little choice, but to hold onto Zivah until he got his footing.
Walking home in wet shorts would be uncomfortable, and embarrassing, but so long as he made it worth while hopefully his mothers wouldn't be too mad. "Not that it's any of your business, but I'm treasure hunting. There's gold and jewels in the river and I'm going to find them."

...Ugh. He was fine, if he was insulting her. Zivah's lip curled up into a snarl, much like one Ai might have made, but she didn't respond - not when she was brushing him off the moment he could stand, even making a show of dipping down to wash her hands off in the murky water.
"Treasure? Where'd you hear a story like that?" She asked, eyeballing the river skeptically. Hardly anyone in the isle willingly talked to Imri, but she wouldn't put it past their earthling mom to make up a story for him to play with. Zivah spent so much time these days shadowing after their mother, Ai, that she had no clue what it was the other two members of their family did when they were at home.
Was it a foolish earthling game?
"Are you sure this wasn't some plan to drown you in the river? You really believe that there's gold out here?"

"Elder Grispaw. Her daughter is a trader so she knows things." He knew he could have been lied to - it had happened enough times in the past for Imri to be skeptical - but this time he was sure this was the truth. Looking back to the river once more, just in time to catch Zivah washing her hands of him, the young boy crouched back into the water again. This time, he was much more careful with his balance.
Half the time the elders either spat at him or pretended to care about his well being so as not to pick a fight with Ai. Elder Grispaw, however, sometimes tolerated him so Imri was willing to at least give her a chance.
Still, she'd told him where to find honey before too and he'd been so badly stung that he couldn't train for weeks...
"How about this; if I'm right you have to sleep on the floor for a week."

... That... was a surprisingly reliable source. Zivah clicked her tongue, and didn't respond, instead she decided that considering she was already damp from rescuing him, she might as well duck down into the water, as deep as he was, skimming the bottom of the river with her fingers. It was mostly made up of slimy plants and the like, but it was still satisfying to touch - to dig her pale fingertips into the slick mud.
It'd be foolish to take his bet when his tip was somewhat solid, but she was prideful - even if he was right, she'd rather take her part of the deal than have backed down from a challenge. "If you're right, I'll sleep on the floor with my blanket AND I won't tell mama you fell." She delegated.
"... And if you're right, give me a piece and I'll say we snuck out here together. But if you're wrong you gotta be silent for a week instead. Deal?"

"I didn't fall the water knocked me over." Even if she was right he wasn't going to admit it. His cheeks were a dark, dusky grey with embarrassment though and his little face was scrunched. It was something to think about as he took his next dive, this time forsaking his 'pan' all together in favor of simply scooping large chunks of muck through now murky water and letting the less corporal chunks float by.
When he surfaced again and heard her, Imri opened his mouth with an unconscious response only to snap it closed. "Deal." It's not like he had a lot of people to talk to anyway, but being silent around Mama Lucijah would be hard. He'd do it, though; he wasn't about to take the easy way out.
"Where did you and Ai go today?"

Zivah smirked at her brother in response, snorting out a laugh at the screwed up little face he was making. Once he'd agreed, she grinned, because she felt she got out of this with the better bet. If she lost, she might get in trouble with mama Ai, but she felt she could afford it. She'd been very good lately in her training, after all.
Speaking of... she did purse her lips and narrow her eyes at Imri. "Mother said it's a secret, special training spot." She said, lying through her teeth. Honestly, they'd mostly run errands on the isle, things that Ai needed carried since mama Lucijah couldn't step foot there. But! She'd been told they'd work in some proper blade work soon - she just had to promise not to tell the others, because apparently their earthling mom didn't think she should handle real knives yet.
"If you were more respectful, she might let you come along too."

A secret, special training spot? That little seed of bitterness in his heart clenched. He was never going to see it then and even if he did then she was just going to take Zivah somewhere else so what was the point?
"If she has to take you somewhere secret then that means you suck too much to let others see. It'll just embarrass her." As he spoke the child grunted and stuck his tongue out, reaching down for something his fingers were just barely ghosting across. After a few minutes of struggling Imri took a deep breath and dove under to just outright snatch it up. When he breached the surface and held up his prize, all of his irritation melted away to childlike excitement.
"Ha ha! Look, look! I told you there were jewels!" It wasn't big by any means, but it was hard not to know something valuable when he saw it. He'd been to market enough times to know things that he shouldn't touch and goddess, was this one of them.

There it was, that face again. She didn't like it one bit - and yet where some siblings might see the hurt and decide it was best to stop ribbing, Zivah didn't have that impulse. Zivah just knew that he was different - even more so than she was, and considering the reactions SHE got, it felt only natural to pass it on where she could. That, and she felt justified when he was just as nasty back to her.
She didn't want to see him hurt, not really - but she also didn't see any reason to be NICE to him.
Zivah hissed in a breath, and opened her mouth to snap back, but already he was just about submerged in the water, where he wouldn't hear her right, and she decided to wait until he came up.
... Only when he did -- it was with something glittering.
"Wh-- is that--" She surged forward, reaching to try and wrest it from his hands, but he stubbornly clung on, and in the end she only succeeded in giving his shoulder a light shove. Any impulse to be nasty faded away, and instead she stared, awed, at the little treasure. "Are there any more? Just how much did they dump in this river?!"

"It's a real gem!" He'd almost foolishly held it closer just to rub it in only to realize she was reaching for it. Imri leaned back, very nearly falling back into the water, just to lord it over her. In the end he did end up falling back in to the river, but this time it was only onto his butt and his head was still above the water. For a moment he feared he'd lost the gem, but a near death grip saved it.
"There should be a lot more if the stories were true." And they were, at least in part. Otherwise what would he be holding?! "I bet there's all kinds hidden out here." They could find a satchel full and have a lot of coin! He didn't much care for stones and gems, but Imri could sell it for enough to buy something he actually wanted.
