Date Night

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Love is in the air and it is exhausting. It seems everyone is so excited to meet someone new and see if they 'click'. To the point where this new trend has spread across Tendaji - Blind Dates.

The concept is pretty simple - you have a friend (or a matchmaker) set up a date with someone you've never met before. Some find this exhilarating - a chance to go beyond the same old and meet someone new. But others see this as unnecessary anxiety forced upon them by their friends or society's pressure.

Either way, you find yourself set up on a date not of your choosing, with a stranger who you've never met before. This could either be the person of your dreams...or a big mistake. Guess the only thing you can do is see where this date takes you.

---

For those who are already in a relationship, it's hard to host a 'blind date', but you can get close. It's time to surprise your significant other with a night date, just the two of you. No family, no children, just a chance to spend time with the one you love.

[ It's date night! This prompt should include a date with a stranger, either set up by your friends or by a matchmaker. If you're RPing your character with another, we ask that it be someone new (within reason to where your character is currently located). If you're RPing alone, create a new NPC and see where the night takes you.

Who knows, maybe this will be your character's future partner...or maybe an awkward enemy. What's the harm in the name of love?

For those who have characters already in a relationship, we're instead looking for a "Surprise Date" where one of the partners surprises the other with ad ate experience. ]

Sekani was as ready as he was nervous! The petite hybrid had decided with his group of friends to branch out of their comfort zones and try dating. Problem was they didn't exactly have charisma so they were all giving blind dates a try! A few of Sekani's friends had enough luck to be asked out for a second date while the others had been shot down entirely which, admittedly, made him a little sick to his stomach.

Still, it couldn't be that bad, could it? He'd asked his older brother to help make him look like a well put together, respectable boy and even though he was shorter than some his age Sekani hoped they wouldn't mind. With a little shuffle of his feet, the nervous hybrid waited by the edge of a modest spring festival and looked around.

Cahira had somehow gotten caught up in a blind dating frenzy. While she had been studying swordsmanship in Oba the young hybrid had been dragged to a couple of events with some of the dance students and other nobles. A lot of the girls had pressured her to try dating, saying that a sword couldn't be the only thing she cared for in life, and so Cahira had finally relented. She would try one, just one, blind date and then they would have to leave her alone.

And of course it was the perfect timing for a spring festival. Cahira could only shake her head with amusement as she paced along the edges. She was supposed to meet someone by the name of...Kane? Kani? "Sekani." That was it, right? Cahira chuckled softly under her breath as she finally got the name correct. It was silly to think that she was here with a traditional dress, the golden flame pattern licking the bottom of the fine silks and the deep purple and violets of her attire resembling the colors of sunset, instead of wearing her usual training leathers. Shoot, she even had her hair tied back in intricate patterns with golden pins instead of her usual ponytail! The one thing that Cahira had insisted on was keeping her sword which was tucked neatly at her side, the new scimitar delicate enough to not create a huge distraction from her attire.

Now to find her target....err date. Cahira glanced about before spotting another hybrid who seemed somewhat nervous. Moving forward the girl placed a hand on her hip as she stopped and studied him. "Is it you that I'm supposed to be meeting here?" She asked, her head tilting with curiosity. He was a bit...shorter than she had imagined but not bad looking. Honestly Cahira had almost expected her friends to place her with a burly man not a delicate looking one.

"You are...utterly terrifying." Sekani said with a visible slack to his jaw. He'd never seen any one woman who was as pretty as she was scary. With as casually as she'd walked toward him he thought she was a dancer, but there was no denying the blade at her side. How could she be that casual with something that must be heavy and not have arms that could heft a barrel? Either the blade wasn't as bulky as he thought or she was hiding something...

Catching himself, Sekani cleared his throat. "Sorry! Sorry - I meant that in a good way. Like seeing a Janarim for the first time; you know they're a predator, but they're just so mesmerizing you can't look away." Furrowing his brow, Sekani blew a raspberry before reaching up and ruffling his curls. "Annnnnyyyyway, how about those flowers?" He motioned toward the event, hoping against hope that he could bury his head in the sand.

Cahira opened her mouth in surprise before closing it again. For once it her life she was almost at a loss for words. Usually the girl was kind and warm hearted but to have someone express terror at the very sight of her....well that was unexpected! She was terrifying?! Hadn't she even tried to dress nicely for this event instead of being in traveling leathers with even more weapons? Was her sword such a bad idea? The very thought made her frown which expression only deepened as the boy tried to express himself. "I see...so you're expecting me to bite you or something? Janarim are very prone to that especially when they sense weakness." She mused innocently as she took a few purposeful steps towards the other hybrid, her golden gaze almost burning before she finally ripped it away from him to glance around for the flowers.

It probably would not be a good idea to chase away her date, not when this was supposed to calm down her mother's fears that her youngest daughters were more prone to defeating suitors instead of encouraging them. She blamed Kyril and Koril. Ever since her oldest siblings found partners the family had started thinking more and more about the romantic futures of the remaining children. Her lips pursed into a pout before she forced a smile and turned back towards Sekani. If she could manage this for at least a couple of hours then surely that would lessen the pressure for future dates, right? Don't scare him away, do not scare him....spirits this is gonna be tough. He looked like a breeze could sweep him away! "My apologies, but I prefer to keep a sword just in case of trouble. Isn't it best to know that you have someone around who can protect you in case of danger?" She finally offered as she tucked a stray crimson curl behind an ear, her fingers twisting the strands in what she hoped was a more feminine gesture.

"Sorry I just...don't usually see people with weapons walking around a flower festival is all." He hadn't meant to offend her, but he'd managed to mess that up, hadn't he? Sekani's cheeks and ears warmed with embarrassment. His parents would be utterly horrified if they knew how terribly this was going. Her following statement and the intensity of her gaze did nothing to alleviate his unease. Whatever carefree light Sekani possessed was severely dampened. Was it too late to feign illness? Or would that make him look weak?

Play it off; just for today. You'll never have to see her again.

By the time she would turn back to look at him his smile would have returned and the petite hybrid would very boldly move up to stand by her. If she could look him in the eye then he could look her in the eye and stare he did; right up until the point his eyes burned.

"You might be right, but I've never courted danger."
Sekani smirked. "Until noooow." His tone became utterly chipper as he reached out and looped her arm with his own. With a not-so-subtle tug he pulled her toward the festival. There would be no denying how much of a waif he was, especially compared to someone physically fit enough to wield a sword, but it didn't bother him. Her arms were nothing compare to Korin's.

"Do you have a favorite plant?"

Now it was her turn to be flustered. "That's fair. Managed Cahira almost sheepishly as she realized that most of those walking around them didn't have a scimitar or something similar hanging on their hip like she did. Even though she was dressed nicely like others walking around the hybrid swordswoman simply didn't feel like she belonged here. It was much easier to go spar with someone at the training grounds than for her to try to understand a festival simply for flowers.

But at least it appeared her date had finally found his own courage. Cahira couldn't help laughing at his antics. "It's only dangerous if I become bored " She teased with a wicked grin before blinking at his sudden question. She should have expected it though considering their surroundings. "Hmm. Maybe the succulents that look almost like a rose? My mother's dancing school has a few around the courtyard." The purple and pink hued petals always looked nice along the stone walkways and stood out amongst the white sands.

"You?" Cahira smiled towards Sekani with interest. "Are flowers something you enjoy?" Or had this event simply been a convenient time for a date?

Sekani rolled his eyes with a dramatic 'p-shaw' hand gesture. "I'm confident that won't happen." Was he actually? Oh Gods no. As lovely as she was it didn't seem as if Cahira was the type to enjoy things like this so he was already mentally making a list of body parts he could live without.

"Your mother runs a dance school?" He brightened at the mention of it, and gently nudged her toward a line of vendors. Sekani was leading away from the taller, thicker plants and more so toward where he knew succulents to be. "See, we have something in common. My mother is a dancer as well."

At her line of questioning he gave an affirmative 'hmm'. "I do. They can add color and life to any space which is something to admire, you know? And if you can get one of the foreign types to grow here then you've got something to be proud of." Of course, he gave a bright, simple smile. "Not that I can, but it doesn't mean I can't look."

Her lips curved upwards into an amused smile. At least he seemed like he was finding some spunk! Cahira's gaze only brightened more as he acknowledged their mother's shared occupations. "So I should hope that we can both hold our own if the festival turns towards dancing, hm?" She teased as she followed his nudge towards a line of vendors. "Honestly even though I did learn a little bit I'm not a professional. My mother almost thought I would follow as a dancer but unfortunately the appeal of swordsmanship was far too strong."

A soft laugh left her lips. "You make flowers sound so lovely. I never really thought about how much they can do within a space." Cahira admitted almost sheepishly. "They're lovely, but I always took them for granted." Always walking past vases of flowers in the hallways of their Matori home every day for her entire childhood had made them blend into the background...it also made her think of the arrangements left at memorials which was not the happiest of feelings.

Her fingers reached out to gently trace the outline of crimson petals. "I suppose I learn to appreciate something new every day." Cahira smiled towards Sekani. "What about you? You seem to adore flowers but you never told me your favorite one."

Sekani's eyes brightened. "Do you think it will? I hadn't thought of that, but it sounds really fun." While he wasn't nearly as graceful as his mother, Sekani was quickly stepping up in ranks and he genuinely enjoyed the dance. At least if she didn't find any succulents she liked maybe he could make it worth it for her with an exciting spin?

"Is your father a swordsman?" Maybe that was where she picked it up? "Mine works on a ship. I've always been too small to help much with his work so I spent a lot of time with mother and I'm pretty quick footed." He tapped his feet a little as they walked, shifting from foot to foot despite the odd looks being passed his way by older passerbys.

"My favorites are hellebores. They're from Zena, but sometimes you can see them here. I think it's nifty that they can bloom in snow; almost like the cold doesn't bother them at all." For a moment, he thought about how best to describe their look. It was obvious that thought was...not exactly his forte when he stuck his tongue out the side and seemed to struggle. "They're...pink with yellow tongues and little speckles on the petal."

"I'm certain there will be. What type of festivities doesn't end with some music and dancing?" Cahira nodded, the young hybrid confident in her assumption. "If so then I suppose I would be willing to go along with you there." It would probably be somewhere in the main square that she had noticed while walking towards their meeting location. There had been a ridiculous amount of flowers and ribbons decorating the area along with a clear stage that looked set for musicians, it would surely be used for more than the faint music she heard now as they walked towards the vendors.

"He's....well it's a bit complicated." Admitted Cahira with a slight flush. "He's a strong fighter but prefers to guard with a shield." Did her papa have some sort of set occupation? Unless it included protecting mama or helping others train Cahira never had truly thought about anyone in their family with set occupations because of their status and inherited wealth. Her older siblings had known more of a different childhood but growing up she had been a bit spoiled without too many cares in the world save for attending meetings with her mother and visiting the dancing school. "My mother dances with swords on occasion and I really liked the feeling of the blades when I was studying under her as a teen. Rather than simply dancing with them I decided to truly utilize them for future adventures. I want to live a life like in the stories." Her gaze was bright as she thought about the life of a wandering swordswoman, always on the move and always finding some sort of thrilling situation to help out others. Some of her siblings were content to pick up artisan roles while she felt more like Koril who had explored all the way towards Zena! Well he was more settled down now but still...he had plenty of adventures exploring the world before gaining children of his own.

"Hellebores sound lovely. I would love to be so resilient to the cold but I'm just too accustomed to the heat that I'm honestly afraid of so much snow, lovely as it can be. Have you been to Zena then?" Cahira tilted her head with curiosity as she studied Sekani before moving to select a nice woven basket that she could fill with plants, gifts for everyone back home. It was mostly to hide the amused grin that crossed her lips once she saw him thinking so much about the flowers' description, but it did distract her for a moment as she selected a couple of small succulents to place inside. Maybe once they selected a few flowers they could venture back towards that main area to see if there truly was dancing. It wouldn't be so bad to see how talented her companion was in that aspect, he had seemed very excited about dancing after all.

"Generally this kind." Sekani answered it with all the smiles of one who was well and truly empty minded. Without dwelling on it too much, he took in their surroundings with a bright sense of wonder. The entire area was so much brighter than he remembered it being in years prior and he had to wonder if someone new was in charge.

"Your father has a shield too?" Sekani reached for one of her hands with both of his and excitedly looked into her eyes. "Is he Matorian like mine? Is he?" If the boy had anymore energy he might have been able to power a steamship all on his own, and if not for the clear scoffing of an older woman at his back he may have kept it up. As it was Sekani flushed and let go of Cahira's hand. "Sorry it's just...what a round of coincidences, huh?"

Still, he'd like to know but for the moment he was happy enough just listening to more about Cahira. She really was a fascinating woman. "It sounds like you had a really set goal from an early age. I envy that." Sekani laughed a bit. "You'll have to make sure to make some friends with bards on your adventures so I can hear all about them." Even if she got some sort of cool adventurers name Sekani would recognize her...or so he thought.

"Ah, no, I haven't. Our home is Matori so this is actually the furthest I've been. Occasionally I come to Oba with my siblings to visit my mother's family." Would he ever actually want to go that far North? It seemed like an awful long way to go, but if that meant getting to see natural hellebores then maybe it would be worth it?

Lifting his own basket, he subconscious sought out the plants that were sure to last the longest. They weren't necessarily the prettiest or the closest to bloom, but those he picked had the heartier stocks. "One day I'm hoping to see Belrea, though. I have an averin that I've taught to perform with me and I'm hoping I can let him see his homeland at least once."

Cahira pursed her lips in protest. "Well if that's the case then we'll have to find one that does have dancing in the future or something." It would be a shame to not dance at least once with Sekani after learning so much about him! They had so many similarities in their families that even Cahira found herself baffled. What were the chances?! At first she had been surprised when he grabbed her hands but then the hybrid found herself squeezing his fingers as the excitement caught on. "He is! My mama is an Oban and my papa is a Matori. We also live mostly in Matori except for when mama has to come this way for work." She found herself gushing as well. How had they not run into each other sooner? It truly was strange!

"Hey, I'm sure you'll think of something. Not all of my siblings had easy decisions either and some of them still don't know what they're doing." She admitted with a playful nudge. "If they can figure things out then so can you." Her gaze gleamed at the idea of someone singing her stories and Cahira felt her spirits lifting the more they continued talking about each other while exploring the flowers. She touched a few more plants, testing the strength of their leaves before tucking them neatly into the basket and giving the vendor a few coins for their purchases. "I think that's plenty of flowers for me." She admitted while glancing back towards Sekani. "Maybe if you ever need a guard I can go with you to Belrea. My sisters have been there before so surely I can handle it. My oldest sis could surely tell us about a lot of neat places to visit there since she studied there for almost two years before settling in Sauti."

Her lips curved upwards into a mischievous grin and she found herself shifting the basket further up her arm so that she could hold a hand out towards Sekani. "As it is the flowers are lovely but I think we can always find some music at a local tavern I know if not in the main square. What do you think about ending the day with some good food and dancing?"

If she'd sobered a bit or shown disinterest Sekani might have calmed. Instead, after seeing the way she was starting to catch on he felt bolstered. "I'd like that! I'm sure there will be more." Even if nothing sparked between them then at the very least he would have made a friend. How could he not have seen her or her family at least once in passing? It was a little weird, but Sekani couldn't wait to tell his siblings about this.

By the time she would turn back to look at him not only would Sekani's basket be full but he would have gotten another. In the span of a few minutes he'd picked up so many that even he didn't remember getting them until his purse because considering lighter. "I'm really interested in the Geian colonies so if she has any information on them then I would really appreciate it. Cities are nice, but you hear about them a lot more than the farms."

Shifting his baskets, Sekani reached for her offered hand and nodded. "Sounds good to me. Maybe next time we meet you can show me some of your sword skills."

Cahira's expression brightened. Even if she wasn't certain where the date would take them at least it seemed like today had went well. She was just happy to have made a new acquaintance, possibly friend, in Oba and it was interesting to find someone who shared so much in common with her. He also was willing to meet up again in the future! Cahira couldn't help the grin that crossed her lips at the thought. Even if they were simply friends at least she could always let her family know that she was seeing someone.

"I'll ask her next time I'm in Sauti." Promised Cahira with a nod. "I'll mention it in my next letter so whichever happens first." If anything it would be good for her to gather information as well since she planned on visiting Belrea in the future. All she wanted to do was travel, see the world and learn all about the different sword styles, so Belrea was definitely on her list.

"If you'd like." Cahira couldn't help the bounce in her step as Sekani even asked to see some of her sword skills. It definitely felt like today was going well indeed. While dating wasn't her top priority Cahira was thankful that she had finally caved to at least go out this one time. It wasn't so bad getting to meet others this way....at least as long as they were like Sekani and not some snob or boring person. The very thought brought a soft chuckle to her lips as she continued moving forward, eager to see what food and fun they could find to finish their afternoon together.
