He had seen one or two people in Matori, sporting those purported legendary traits which seemed to be coming up more and more at the Inn where he liked to get the stew for lunch some days. The beer there was also high quality and attracted the kind of people that had been to places. Case in point he definitely wasn’t originally from Matori and he liked it there. There was a variety of food as well as clientel. It was said that certain people past a certain undefined age seemed to disappear for a bit and came back from some sort of spiritual journey changed. Sometimes in quite spectacular ways, and sometimes it was more subtle.
It was a most interesting topic and he often contemplated it over afternoon tea, which he had started to take with some of his family, whoever was around at the time and wanted to join him. He started asking Iexa and Zasha to keep their ears open about their days and to bring him back any rumors on the subject.
He had notes it had become a sort of hobby for him. Over time he got bits and shreds of information but it piled up slowly. It seemed that alkidike’s and some of their descendants (like himself) could get more insect like traits. He felt up his sensitive feelers wondering if they would get branchy like one of the reports. Or if his skin would get the shifter starlight pattern, that sounded beautiful, but he wasn’t sure he could as he had inherited the iceling skin from his father. Maybe his shifter type crystals would glow. Would the moon or the ice or the tree call to his soul more. Would he ever be chosen for the change, it appeared like not everyone was but what they all seemed to have in common was a goodly age.
He wondered if he would get the frost patterns then. He saw one guy around town who worked with beasts and he swore his eyes had been yellow not too long ago. Now his eyes were a crystal blue with speckles around them. He was pretty sure that this fellow was a stellar example of someone who had been chosen for the legendary traits. Maybe with the iceling blood in his veins his eyes might do the same? Well being a multiple hybrid had its perks and its confusions. He wondered what would happen to Thea if she also reached legendary. Maybe they could be legendary glowy people together. That might be fun. She was going to laugh at him when he brought this up but maybe she would get some cool traits from her fire heritage.
She could get scaled purportedly. He thought that would be beautiful, come to think of it she might not think so. But as he understood it, which was not very well, one didn’t really get to chose what he presumed the gods gave them. Apparently the spiritual journey was a little different for everyone just like every trait was different. He wondered which of his offspring he could talk to about this. Sometimes he caught them sidling away like they had heard it from him one too many times. But well he tended to get a little bit obsessive about things that he was passionate about. That was part of what made him a budding blacksmith. Work was picking up as he slowly built a good customer base and his reputation started to precede him. Maybe he was just that much closer to earning his stripes, or whatever the case may be.
Perhaps some of the most interesting reports had to do with foliage coming right out of someones hair or body. Apparently both he and Thea were in some way potentially eligible to have vegetation growing off them. Perhaps that was what happened when you stood a bit too still during the spirit quest part.
He found another note and chuckled. People whose ancestors hailed from Oba and the fire tribe could get horns. Thea would kill him likely if he brought it up but he couldn’t not picture her headbutting him when he displeased her. Then he went on to imagine the rest of his family sporting similar headgear. Well it was only fair since none of them had gotten the more rare alk feelers. It seemed to be mostly common only in those who had quite a bit of alk blood but hey if you couldn’t’ have feelers, were horns not the next best thing? He must not mention this to Thea, and probably not the rest of them if he was to avoid the er…bleating. His roaring laughter shoot the study where he was holding his tea. When asked about it he said it was nothing.
