Thallassa stretched to a beautiful morning birdsong serenade. It felt like a good day for adventure, so after he did his chores he saddles up the black and blue snaptrotter that his father had asked him to ride for a while. He was excited as Daeroch was a beautiful beast and seemed to be a promising mount. He bathed in a lake he found and spied a river connecting to it. Hmm, there had been a bunch of rumors about treasure hunters having success in the area. So he figured it might be fun to go take a look.
If he didn't find anything, well maybe he would get a good story out of it anyway.
He nudged the snaptrotter into the stream, it wasn't as hard as trying to convince a janarim to get wet as snaptrotters really liked the water. It made for a really fun and exciting way to inspect the river. Quite efficient in fact. Out here he felt good. Free, relaxed even though the biggest and baddest beasties could be found in the bush, he would rather deal with them than hostile people. Animals had clear motives for things, people liked to be clever and complicated and usually sneaky. His Dad had dealt with poachers for years in Oba, protecting those janarim and other beasts who shared the wild territory he did. Thal was grateful his Dad had finally come to Matori though, otherwise he and this snaptrotter would not be together in this beautiful river, having the luxury of snooping for treasures among the smooth stones.
He was out there for hours, eventually he took a break and made a fire, half expecting one of his friends or a member of his family to smell the food and come out of the bush like termites from the woodwork, but for once even the smell of roasted meat couldn't summon them. So he shared with the snaptrotter and they had a truly wonderful time. Having found nothing he decided to head home and maybe try again tomorrow.
The next day came and he was feeling lucky for a change. Not that he had felt unlucky yesterday but well he just felt different. He started up river, his mount a willing accomplice, probably hoping for more roast scraps like he had gotten yesterday. Thal always feed the critters he worked with the best stuff. He couldn't do what he did without them after all, at least not in the same way and it was an easy way for him to show his gratitude. He did however make sure that they were not spoiled.
Sure enough luck was with him and he started to find small nuggets of gold wedged among the rocks. He had quite a bit by the end of the day and he decided to donate it to his dad so he could get some really nice beasts from breeder for them to tame or potentially set up their own breeding program. He wanted to invest in his future and his Dad was quite good at what he did.
Now he would never run out of pretties, perhaps he would use part of it to go wild taming, maybe Ushi, Ultear or Teth would come with him. He hoped they could have an adventure together. Well so long as Ultear and Teth got a long, he wasn't sure that they did. Kynin and Teth sure didn't get along but he figured that was because Kynin was jealous that Teth was a year or two older. He wondered idly what Kynin would think of him, being the very oldest of the boys. He sighed, he loved his family and he was never really bored because of them but some of them could be headaches once in a while. Maybe just maybe, Kynin would mellow with age. He could be hopeful anyway.
He patted Drakk's neck and asked the animal to bring them home. Once there he rubbed him down and fed him a meal fit for a king. Then he fell upon his Mother's cooking with nearly as much enthusiasm. Hunting for treasure all day was hard work but deeply fun. Maybe if he had spare time he would do it again but for the most part his time was taking up ranging and taming and all of the other duties a Beast Charmer got to do when he was a part of the family business. He really had no urge to change that yet. Why fix what wasn't broken? 755
