Siofra had come to Oba with her big cousin, Lynx, to see her grandmother but she'd gotten separated from him in the crowd. Mostly because she'd gotten distracted by a street performer. The juggling was really cool! Of course the girl had paused for only a second and then lost sight of her cousin by the time she'd looked back.

In her panic she'd done the exact wrong thing which was to move from that spot. Sio had gone looking. At first just forward, hard to lose someone in a straight line, but then she'd not seen him or anyone that looked like him so she thought he'd turned! The hybrid girl had then taken a turn down a busy road, well traveled meant it was the common way to go. Or at least it did in the small city she lived in. Now she was teary eyed and trembling as she stood at the entrance to an alley way looking absolutely lost, picking at her nails in worry.

Needless to say, Valek had gathered a few more enemies since his last helpful venture with a pair of Oban nobles. While stepping on toes was one of his specialties it meant that Valek had to take a bit of a break from his typical spots, a worthy sacrifice for assisting in bagging one of the most dangerous assassins in Oba. So rather than going with his usual nightlife routine, Valek had been living more like a normal civilian in the daylight. It sucked to have to transition back to morning hours but it gave Valek plenty of chances to waste time by checking out the morning markets where it was so crowded that it was hard to catch sight of the Oban hybrid with his cloak or scarf kept up to block out the scorching rays of sun. He had been almost tempted to dye his hair crimson, but the appearance of his ears would still give him away so the young man had given up on that idea almost instantly.

Still, what he did see was a group of men that he had apparently cheated out of cards the other day. How was he supposed to help his luck when the cards constantly kept coming out in his favor? It was also a good way to learn how to pick apart information but something frowned upon by the local tavern patrons who had almost caught sight of him in the crowd. Quickly walking past a street performer, Valek tossing back a couple of the balls as he disrupted the juggler's act, the hybrid turned a corner and grabbed the easiest target he could find. While the hybrid girl was surely already distraught it was simple enough to tug her into the nearby alley after him, his arms wrapping around her almost like a lover's embrace as he used her as a distraction while the group finally rushed past and ignored the pair who were being intimate in the alleyway. They were after a single target after all and had no time for some sort of fling going on, a surprisingly common thing in the alleys around the market area. Valek had placed his hand over her mouth, his lips on his own hand as he imitated kissing while keeping her from screaming at the same time.

Eventually he pulled back as his pursuers disappeared and wiped his hands on his leathers. "Thanks for that. You happened to be in the perfect place for me at the right time." He offered without any apology as he simply prepared to go about his day, his gaze lingering for a moment as he waited to make certain she wouldn't scream and attract attention. If so then he was prepared to race back the other way to try and use any screaming to his advantage as well.

Being grabbed certainly hadn't been something she thought would happen. Siofra's eyes grew wide a dinner plates as she turned her head to look at the person who had a hold of her. It certainly wasn't Lynx! She instantly brought her hands up to grab at their arms and tried to push. Sio didn't want them to kidnap or rob her! What if this person was connected to the people her parents had hid her away from!?

The hand that covered her mouth was pointless, though this stranger didn't know that, and she drew her brows together in confusion about it before she tried to jerk her head away. The stranger put their face too close to her own but their hand remained in place between them so she didn't think they were after anything inappropriate. Didn't mean she trusted them though. The hybrid girl blinked and waited for the stranger to back away and let go of her face.

When they did and then offered up a thanks for being in the right place at the right time she opened her mouth but still made no noise. Instead she moved her hands so that she could smack the man on the chest to show her irritation at what he'd done before she brought her hands in front of her and signed to him quickly. 'You shouldn't grab people like that!' Nothing like that happened at home. Only time she was grabbed at home was when others would pick on her for her looks. 'Really shouldn't act like you are going to do..' There was a pause as her hands weren't sure what to sign, and from the look on her face she wasn't sure of the word she wanted to use. Eventually she just looked to the side, her cheeks turning colors, and settled on a general term. 'Things.'

Thankfully Valek was strong and stubborn enough to hold his ground, something that kept the girl from blowing his cover. Honestly it was probably best that things worked out else she could have been drawn into a nasty fight, something which Valek might have felt a bit guilty about considering he had indirectly dragged her into the chase.

Valek allowed the girl to smack him a few times before he took a step back. Thankfully though it seemed she was done with violence (at least against him for now) and had started to actually sign. Others may have been a bit baffled by the sudden hand gestures but Valek simply raised a brow. It was convenient to learn multiple languages and signing was ideal for whenever you had to deal with secret meetings that had the risk of listening walls. Obviously he had learned it over the years and so now all he could do was chuckle at the outburst. Was she mute? I guess I didn't have to go to such drastic measures to keep her quiet. He mused with faint amusement before glancing around again.

"Save the lecture. It was the best option I had at the moment and it didn't hurt you, right?" Valek asked as he peered around the corner before looking back at the girl. She seemed fine enough to him with plenty of room for expressing her opinion even if silently. Should he have let on that he could read signs? Maybe it would have been more fun to see what she could have expressed towards him without realizing he actually understood her. Valek clicked his tongue against his teeth at the idea. It was a shame but he had already opened his big mouth so it was what it was. Now he just had to wait a few minutes and hopefully those goons would give up the chase for now and he could go back to the markets or something.

She took in a deep breath through her mouth, looking as though she were going to say something, but still nothing came out. Siofra was s little surprised that he understood her but with her learning that she narrowed her eyes at him and stepped forward to smack him on the shoulder a bit harder this time. 'Just because I wasn't hurt doesn't make it right you jerk!' Her hands had come together to sign again while she glared at him. 'What if those people had noticed you and thought I was helping you? You wouldn't have kept me safe!' Likely he would have left her in their hands as he ran. She made a small 'Tch' sound as she glared to the side and signed 'Coward.' with her hands.

The hybrid then looked at the entrance of the alley and bit at her bottom lip. Was it okay for her to go out there? She still needed to find her cousin. Bad part was she didn't exactly remember which way she'd gone to end up where she was. She'd only followed the crowd. Big mistake in the city apparently. A sigh escaped her and she tried to think of what her other options were. Find the local guard? Maybe they could give her directions to her grandmother's? Or send someone to look for her cousin. She thought about trying to go to her dad's forge but that might be a bit too suspicious. Sio sagged a little and leaned against the wall in defeat.

Valek just gave a shrug and ignored the insult, "You weren't the target so just point in a general direction and they'll keep going. Unless..." He leaned forward, a mischievous glint in his gaze. "You also happened to be too good at cards and made some people angry at you?" He doubted it. The girl looked like she was about to burst into tears at any moment so he could not even imagine her in a rowdy place like a tavern. Still, it was fun to tease and see what type of reaction he could get next.

And then she was leaning against the wall in defeat. Valek simply raised a brow and started walking away before pausing after a moment and letting out a sigh. "Unless you are trying to hide from other swindlers, I would suggest not lingering in an alley like this. What are you lost or something?" He asked, peering over his shoulder towards the girl.

She narrowed her eyes at him when the question came about her being good at cards. While she was she hadn't made someone mad at her because of it. Unless you counted her cousin but he wouldn't threaten her over it.

Siofra watched him start to walk away and felt mixed emotions about it. The hybrid girl was glad to be rid of the troublemaker but at the same time she was panicking about being left alone. Clearly the city was more dangerous than she thought or was used to. Then he told her not to stay where she was before asking if she was lost. Sio paused for a second to bite at her bottom lip, keeping her tears from spilling over, then nodded her head. 'Yes. It's my first time here.' And she had absolutely no idea where she was or where to go from there.

Valek reached up and pinched the bridge of his nose. He really shouldn't get involved with some crying girl, but here he was bored and with nothing urgent to do. It would probably look wrong if he simply left her and the last thing he needed was for someone to investigate him if the girl went missing because she lingered in the wrong area of town. What a pain. His dark gaze shifted back towards her and a sigh left his lips. "Well then you definitely should go back towards the markets and not be in some dark alley. Are you hoping to find a map here?" He quipped with a frown before gesturing for her to follow him.

"Let's just head towards the upper markets and then you can tell me what or who you're looking for. If you can't keep up then that's that." Valek gave no more warning, no sign of comforting words to the girl as he proceeded to turn the corner and walk away. His boots were the only sound on the stone pavement as he continued past less pleasant areas and went back towards the markets, the murmurs of the crowds starting to reach his ears. Maybe he thought to glance over his shoulder once or twice, mostly just listening to see if someone was following behind him, and it was only when they left the darker streets that he finally stopped to see if his new companion was actually there.

When he mentioned her finding a map she just looked at him with the most deadpan expression she could before signing. 'Yeah, I planned for it to magically appear after a stranger pretended to kiss me in a back alley.' The sarcasm in her expression alone should have been enough.

His words about going back to the markets was her hint that he was going to be her guide. So when he moved she did too on instinct of not wanting to be left alone. Her steps were a bit hurried to keep up with Valek. Since he was leading the way there was no way he could see her sign anything so she didn't bother trying to hold conversation. Nor did she complain about his pace. When he stopped to see if she was behind him she almost collided with him and stopped just shy of making contact. Blinking up at him she waited to see if he had something to say.
