It was starting to become a pattern. If it was a senshi that Langite ran into, he wouldn’t attack on sight, but he would talk with them, and attack if the need arose. But if it was one of the others. One of the Knights…there was nothing else for him to do but attack on sight. It was something he had done twice already, and when he felt the aura that evening, he didn’t hesitate, but made his way towards it and looked at the purple and blue clad blonde boy, and then looked away. “I long.”

Soften them up. They were easy to bring over. Well, half of them were, at any rate. And it stood to reason this one might be persuaded too. Hopefully.

Again, he spared a thought for Ilse, hoping that she was safe and all right. He wished she was beside him now. Together…

He spared a moment to smile slightly, thinking of the other corrupt…or. The other senshi, if she ended up following her heart.

Regardless. He missed her.

Langite turned his attention back to the squire, his eyes narrowing. Well, boy. Let’s see just what it is you’re longing for.

Starlight had been doing well. He had a family. Two fathers, a sister. He had a job. He had a home. He had a hopeful future. He wasn’t out now to look for any trouble, he just wanted to make sure the world was a little safer. He was restless, which wasn’t uncommon. He didn’t know if they knew he was slipping out at night and let him or if he actually did a good job at sneaking around, but tonight was one of those nights where he just needed to breathe a little.

Even at home, sometimes it felt like the walls were closing in.

He couldn’t always tell when he was going to get into a mood, or why. But a walk to wear himself out at least meant that he’d go home and fall asleep without tossing and turning or putting himself into a fit.

Except, he really wasn’t anticipating running into anyone. He’d powered up out of habit, and it felt like he’d only just barely registered a Corrupted Senshi on his radar before he was overcome with some feeling.

Like, it hit him all at once. His chest hurt, his blood felt like it had forgotten how to move. He felt a strange coagulation, a strange numbness. The only thing that felt warm was his eyes and he didn’t understand why.

He knew the sensation of wanting something so badly that it felt like a need, but he had so much right now–so much was going right? What did he want?

Answers?

Right now he wanted answers. Probably. Maybe. His mind felt like a bunch of scribbles. Lines, drawing over themselves. Like a smoky haze in a dark room. It was disorienting and upsetting and he reached up quickly to try and wipe his eyes before anyone saw.

Before the Corrupted Senshi saw. Or–was he there? Was it just a trick? He couldn’t focus, couldn’t feel anything right now.

He felt someone behind him, though, and he turned–stiffened.

“Sorry,” he blurted instinctively, even though he didn’t know why. He didn’t want to fight, he knew that much. Not while he was having some random breakdown. He clutched his paintbrush harder, just in case, and took a step back as if he thought he could just move away and this Senshi would carry on.

Langite watched as the boy, tried to wipe at his tears, tried to put on a brave face. It was cute. Rather futile, but cute. Goodness, he was a child. Not that Langite felt like…an adult. Well, he did but. He was still young too, by most adult standards. This boy however, he looked like he could still be in high school.

Sending children to fight in wars that they couldn’t understand.

The thought hadn’t really occurred to him before, but now that it had…

He hated it.

“Good evening. I am Langite. What do you think you’re doing out here? It is dangerous to be out alone. There are monsters and evil people in the night. Going out alone seems like a good way to get yourself killed.”

It felt a little harsh to be saying such things, but it was the truth, and he couldn’t just lie about it. Perhaps this boy simply needed a reality check.

Starlight was doing his best to get himself under control again and forced a quick shrug. It didn’t matter how tall he stood, or how he tried to raise his chin to look a little more composed. He still looked like he was barely reeling himself in, and–for what? What did he want so badly?

Not to be in danger, or attacked by monsters or evil people. Definitely not to get killed.

“I needed some fresh air,” he blurted, too distracted to come up with any sort of lie. Did he need a lie? This guy wasn’t attacking him, he didn’t seem horrible.

And he seemed like he was only a Senshi, not even his rank. Starlight had to be safer, right?

“What are you doing out here? If you know it’s so dangerous, you should be inside, too.”

“Mm. See, that’s where you’re wrong. I’m an adult and more than capable of taking care of myself, whereas you are a child and you shouldn’t be involved in all of this until you’re wise enough to make your own decisions. I bet your parents are worried about you.” Langite bet that they had no idea that he even did this. Went out, working to destroy the planet. Working against those who were trying help it. Who were trying to save it.

“You should go home. How do you think they’ll feel if you just don’t come home one day? If you’re killed by someone who sees you as the problem that you are and who decides to act rather than talk? You should go home, and consider what you’re fighting for. I can’t understand why you want the Earth to be destroyed. To be taken over. You people confuse and disgust me.”

Langite thought about using his magic again. Thought about calling for someone to just…prove his point. To corrupt the boy. Change his mind by force.

“Why do you do it? Why do you help those who wish to invade and destroy the planet?”

He said parents. In his heart, Starlight wanted to think of Arias and Nick, but it felt like there was such a raw wound, and every time it felt like it was healing, something tore it back open. He wanted to say something clever, something witty. Snap back at him.

The words didn’t come.

What was he going to say, ‘Screw you, I don’t have parents’?

That was pathetic.

He didn’t need to be reminded that he was a child. He wasn’t. Not in the sense he supposed the word was being used. “I’m not fighting,” he said, but his tone was uneven. Stupid, so stupid. How was he supposed to prove that he wasn’t a child when he was letting his emotions get the better of him?

He wasn’t fighting. He just wanted some fresh air. He wanted to stop the room from smothering him. He wanted to run into Tristan and have her decide she was pranking him. He wanted to be more than what he was, because–what was he?

Some confusing and disgusting kid? –Invading and destroying the planet was new to him, he thought he was very environmentally conscious. He thought he was doing the right thing.

“I just want to have a home to come back to,” he said, but the answer felt unfulfilled. “I’m not invading or destroying anything. I just–”

It felt like things were still closing in. He felt dizzy, and took another step back. “...Look, I’m sorry. I’ll go.”

He didn’t know where. Home, probably. He still felt smothered. He didn’t think he was going to get to shake this feeling tonight. He felt squeamish, sick almost.

Whatever this guy was, whatever he was doing, Starlight didn’t like it.

And he felt weak for wanting to run.

Langite thought about attacking while the boy’s back was turned. He thought about it, and decided against it after a long moment of soul searching. Clearly his words had upset him, and perhaps…leaving him alone to think on things would do better in the long run than simply taking him.

Either that or his words would come true and the boy would get himself killed…but. Truthfully?

That wasn’t Langite’s problem. He had given a warning, if it was heeded…wel. That would be up to the Squire.

Finally, the corrupt turned and walked off in the other direction, heading home and curbing his impulse to look back at the stars again.
