Earlier that week, Faustite (by way of Headache) put out a notice to each of his subordinates: they were to meet in one of the Citadel's conference rooms on a Saturday evening. While attendance was not required, it was encouraged.

The room itself was a smaller, round affair, built into a partially collapsed turret. It offered more space than a standard office in Negaspace, but would be unsuitable for larger meetings like the auditoriums. Smatterings of crystal clusters provided some violet ambience while a few lamps illuminated the space. A table was pushed near the wall, and on it sat plates full of food – from bagels and salads to sandwiches, pasta dishes, fried finger foods and their sauces, and other delectables that were clearly fronted to Faustite from another, undeclared party.

Faustite stood at the back of the room, casting an orange glow, as he waited for his subordinates to enter. He looked like he hadn't slept much.

"Had a lot of new additions these past months. Lost some members, but gained more. Chances are, there's someone in the team that you don't know. Someone you've never worked with, or heard of. Today, you'll get to know them."

He leaned against the wall, crossed his legs at the ankles. "You'll play 'two truths and a lie'. Everyone make a circle, face inward.

"Can keep it to Negaverse business, or something more civilian. One of you will introduce yourself, speak your three statements, and the rest will guess your lie. After everyone's gone, you'll reveal your lie.

"Whoever gets them all gets a recommendation to Information," he added half-jokingly. Pushing off from the wall, he strode toward the center of the room.

Hello everyone! To make this fun for the players, too, we can have an OOC time of it!

How to play: guess the lie for one character per player other than yourself. If everyone quoted participates, that would be a total of 7 lies guessed (including me). Whoever gets the most correct wins a crown token!

I will make a post clearly delineating when it's time for the characters to state their answers, at which point, please tell me your answers over Discord! If you have any questions, please let me know~

For now, post in any order, and that'll be the order in which we go through the game! There'll be a few days to make intro posts before we start.

A notice or was it an invitation? Tama wondered as he pressed his lips together in a small pout. So Faustite wanted to pretend like he was part of his team, did he?

It would have been amusing if it hadn’t come from that b*****d. Still, the Negaverse’s tenacity towards hierarchy, teamwork — dare he say, camaraderie? — was fascinating to him. It was as if the forces of Chaos were more inclined to order than… well, Order.

Luckily, today was a good day for him or he might have not decided to attend. He still wasn’t entirely sure that the meeting wasn’t mandatory. When you give a notice to subordinates, it wasn’t usually optional. Not that the Mauvian cared much about protocol. He did what he wanted.

And today he wanted to. Today, finally, his human form had stopping its acting up and, for once since he’d been here, something was finally under his control.

He walked into the room with his bare feet wondering how anyone managed to keep their toenails decent with all this stone flooring to chip them. Well, at least keeping his nails sharp wasn’t so hard in the Citadel.

“Two truths and a lie?” He purred, brushing his long silver-white hair aside with a flick of his hand. Truly, he had wanted to ignore Faustite. Pretend he didn’t hear a word he had to say. Disobey anything that even smelled like a command.

“I’ll indulge.” The man’s violet eyes flickered to life. “I was born with my tail this short; it wasn’t cut off in battle. I once sleep with a human; it was grand. My full name isn’t Tama; but I won’t let just anyone know what it is.”

This would be fun.

Get to know you games?

It wasn't Jadarite's fist time with this kind of activity, and while they always ended up a bit awkward, she understood the necessity of it, especially considering recent events. If icebreakers gave her teammates a general idea of her interests, perhaps she wouldn't end up dragged out camping with Albite any more times, or otherwise have people think she was some kind of lumberjack type just because she carried an axe.

She grabbed a salad from the table before she went over to join the circle, sitting daintily with her ankles crossed over to the side. She listened as the cat man, Tama, laid out his facts, although she couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at his second comment.

She'd assumed that this meeting was going to be more professional than all that.

Instead of bringing it up, she simply said, "Your name is just Tama."

Then, a few moments of silence passed while she thought about what she was going to say.

"I can quote the entirety of the Super Mario Galaxy script," she said, "I have a copy of Lord of the Rings signed by Tolkien, and I was just in Los Angeles for a few months."

Faustite looked exhausted, enough so that Albite leveled him with some seriously concerned puppy eyes before finding a place to sit himself down. Directly behind his haykitten. Albite couldn’t blame him for being tired - nothing ever stopped, not ever. He wanted to take his thumbs to the undersides of Faustites eyes and rub the coal that’d gathered there away. Maybe put him down for a nap after the meeting? There were so many new people around. It was hard to imagine how they’d gotten so big!

He was glad he knew enough of them - Jada, Tama - T-t — cat? And he’d fought him once before! Except now he was a human?!!

*C-c-cat*” Albite was a confusion, it showed. If anything he scooted further behind haymitch. Better to be safe than sorry with that one, because he was a happily bonded Senshi! He definitely didn’t need any other nefariously fluffy creatures getting ideas. Even if he was very curious about whether or not Tama had lost his tail in a fight.

He focused on Jada instead, gave her a wink and mouthed ‘Sup Galadriel’ - before tossing out his two truths and a lie. It was a good game. His fireboss was getting better at these things.

“So! I’m Albite, I really don’t think Jadas been to Cali recently, definitely a lie.” He said as he planted his head in his hands and thought something up worth saying.

“I was born outside of America as Waruhiu Arualo Ushindi, I love playing in the Rift, annndddd —- my favorite color isss….Blue.” He said and nodded softly, scanning the room for the next person who was going to speak.

The invite came as a bit of surprise considering it’s lack of requirements, but Helio was thankfully free. Rarely did he need to work on weekends or evenings as most photographers preferred photo sessions to happen on a more 9-5 basis. So, at the time specified time for the meeting, Helio was there with metaphorical bells.

Faustite was, as usual, looking broody as people entered and Helio shot him a look with a raised brow as if asking ‘Are you ok?’ The bags under the eyes spoke otherwise. Perhaps he’d pause after the meeting to check in. He’d recently picked up some tea that he thought the General may enjoy and a little chamomile certainly wouldn’t hurt.

He made himself comfortable in a chair. This was his first time seeing any of these faces. Faustite hadn’t gone into detail about the members of his team and Heliodor was thankful for that. It kept any preconceived opinions from interfering with his own thoughts.

The game at hand would certainly force interaction from people. He was curious to see who would actually be invested in finding out the truth and lies of their team members.

Hell people were already voicing their thoughts on some of the presented truths and lies. And it appeared the game may end up being easier for others as it became obvious who knew who so far.

As each person began their introduction Helio gave each his undivided attention. Tama, one of the two cats Faustite had mentioned. Perhaps a bit of attitude with that guy, but not unexpected from a cat even a Maugham. Jadarite, an agent who seemed to maybe have her s**t together but looks could be deceiving, and Albite who appeared to have a very large and loud personality.

“I am Heliodor.” He gave a small wave with one of his charming ‘nice to meet you’ smiles. “I might be the most recent recruit to the team so bare with me while I get all of your names straight tonight.”

“So…” he clasped his hand together. “Two truths and a lie. I am a trained ballet dancer, I like my coffee as black as my soul, and reading is my favorite hobby. Classics, preferably.”

A "team meeting," to Lionel, sounded like some kind of excuse. It had him more than a little on edge--his feelings about the Negaverse certainly hadn't improved, of late, not when he'd seen Guinevere slide further into giggling violence and heard her talking oh-so-excitedly about bringing some other poor girl in. A girl who liked and admired her, loved her, even--and Gwen was willing to rip her away from her life, just like what had been done to her, just to have her.

It made Lionel a little ill.

Still, his absence would likely be noted, even without the requirement. Better to show up and play nice. And so he showed, and brought a case of Guinness, because there were about six jokes there and all of them were accurate. Most of his teammates were probably of drinking age anyway, and frankly, he didn't actually give a s**t if any weren't, because the American drinking age was stupid and arbitrary anyway.

He dropped the case on the table of food.

"Call it a friendly offering," he told Faustite, and he took a can out of the box for himself before grabbing some food to sit down with.

Apparently they were playing get-to-know-you games. Fun. And he recognized the name, Heliodor--supposedly his new superior. Oh, all good fun, then.

"Lionel," he introduced himself. "Heliodor, I'm going to guess...hmm." He was certainly pretty enough to do ballet, and that seemed too obvious a guess, anyway. "Different coffee preferences, I think." His Irish brogue--faded, a bit, by years in Destiny City, but still present--rolled through the words.

A brief pause, thoughtful.

"For myself--I was born in Galway, I've got a little sister, and I play the guitar."

------

Alkmene and Lilith arrived together, in a little "pop" of teleportation. When they did, Alkmene paused by Faustite's side, taking in his appearance and giving him a light frown of concern. It wasn't as if there wasn't reason enough to be tired--so many things had gone wrong, of late, and as far as Alkmene knew, the problem of the pain in the a** Knight was not exactly solved.

Still. Concerning. Maybe he'd check in on Faustite next time they were alone in his office.

With a light sigh, he moved to take a seat, and accepted the plate of food Lilith delivered to him without comment. He took in the team--more Senshi than he might have expected, all things considered, and an interesting crowd. The gentleman with cat ears was particularly interesting, and when he mentioned sleeping with a human, Alkmene had to resist the urge to say that if it was the lie, he'd be happy to make it a truth.

.....Later. He'd offer later.

"Alkmene of Envy," he introduced himself. "Currently confined to desk duty as my magic's decided that working is for suckers, so that's a good time. Anyway, two truths and a lie--I got to pick my own name twice, I play the violin, and I'm flexible enough to fold myself in half."

------

Her brother's answers made Lilith roll her eyes. Nothing she didn't expect out of him, really--he was sort of like that as a person in general, and it was honestly remarkable to her that he wasn't hitting on the two new handsome gentlemen, but maybe that just had to wait. She folded one leg over the other to make a lap-plate for her food, and thoguht over her options.

"Lilith," she gave a little wave to the group. "Alkmene and I are siblings. Glad to get to meet all of you. I hope we can make for a very productive team," she said, politely. There wasn't a lot of chipperness in her voice, but there was amusement.

"So! I can understand Morse code, I've never left the country, and I never went to college because Twitch and OnlyFans make me enough money that I'm not worried about it."

Cryolite had been dragged into this - quite unwillingly. No, that was the lie. He’d been roped along by a himbo who was ever so deeply in love with a living bonfire. A being he now called ‘boss’.

A General, of all things. Despite the fact that he looked perpetually twelve. It was the clear exhaustion that lent Faustite any credence as an adult, let alone an adult with tasks and responsibilities. Faustite carried that 'look' that screamed 'end me', only with added sass. The sort his friend never did. If Waru ever gained a dark circle from an ounce of sleeplessness and long nights with to many tasks to humanly bear? Syrus had never seen it.

It wasn’t too bad though, especially if the whole of 'meeting other people' thing included free meals and the occasional ice breaker event. One that was certainly far less severe than any others he'd ever been to. So Faustite had a pension for fun? Interesting. It was a good thing, maybe, because the team did indeed seem fun. Almost excessively so. He suddenly understood why Albite liked this - liked them.

The more he knew about the man made of flames — and his team - the better. Which led to an endless amount of surprise and near choking fit when he realized there were also —

Cats. Not just cats, no, but Cats with little stars in the middle of their heads!?

Syrus loved cats. He’d bitched for actual days about missing the cat cafes opening event, not only because it made Waru look like he wanted to crawl out of his skin at the mere thought of attending at all - but because he’d genuinely wanted to attend.

And the cat he’d deemed Albite’s seemed spoken too - spoken for?

And the other —

*Oh my sweet ever loving god, the negaverse has cat-boys?!*

That — that had not advertised anywhere in the handbook. Not even once.

Cryolite smothered his surprised, and made an attempt at scrubbing the unwanted tint of pink off his cheekbones. Then hastily swallowed down whatever greasy thing he’d been chewing on, he didn't taste it anymore, if it'd been good, bad, otherwise. He was far more invested in this whole ‘team bonding’ issue, quite suddenly, and made a point to join in from where he'd been hiding at the edges.

He didn't know a soul yet, save for two, but he would do his best to learn them all by the end of the day --- or at least harangue Albite for information after the fact.

“I’m Cryolite, I do ice, apparently? Just not the kind that floats in drinks — and his favorite color isn’t a color at *all* - so that’s a lie. *Albite.*” was he cheating? Yes, but what if there was a prize besides recommendations? What if winning had some merit - like friendship? So, cheating it was - and if Albite gave him a very scandalized look for doing so, possibly because he disliked being called out on his 'colors can also be feelings and sometimes sounds' bullshit - Cryolite dutifully ignored it.

Two truths and a lie — a thin little slice of a smile took his face as he considered. “Letsee -- as for myself? I’ve lived in Destiny City my whole Life. My favorite food is veal. My guilty pleasure is compiling dossiers on people who aggravate me, even mildly.”

So many curious statements. His attention first went to Tama, at whom he rolled his eyes; tacky thing set the tone with that? Jada recovered it somewhat, but Albite, as was his nature, ruined everything. That was usually where he made peace with his disappointment and learned to accept all that came after with grim resignation.

Even with all of Albite's antics.

Flame eyes wove around the room, taking in all his attendees. Looked to be most, if not all, of the group. Interesting, and heartening, that so many of them wanted to know each other. So many pitched in with this trite little party game and ran with it. Maybe it was the food. Or Albite attracted people who appreciated audacity.

Lionel brought beer, and he thought hard about snapping one up, but… Fire and alcohol, with no glass to serve as a barrier, seemed poor taste. He nodded to the senshi nonetheless.

Faustite had to chew his lip to keep from calling out Alkmene's lie. Process of elimination when he knew two of the truths.

He shifted, resisted the urge to pace, though his hand fiddled with the articulations on his rebuilt grate for something to do. Each movement informed him that something hurt, and much of the bruises had discolored by now. "Bet you don't have time for dossiers, Cryolite," he returned, eyes half-lidded.

"Faustite, if you haven't figured that out." He took a breath, even as it hurt. "Saw the opening of the Rift, know who I was a thousand years ago, and…" His attention chased around the room again, counting faces. Too tempting it was, to don a smug smile. "Slept with five of you."

Top that, Cat.

"We made our guesses. We'll reveal our lies in the same order. Tama, lead off."

Tama had his guesses. He didn’t know any of these people, but that didn’t mean they didn’t have tells. They were people, after all. As much as he had wanted to define them by their function — agent, senshi, ‘team’ — the Mauvian was forced to see them as they were.

Humans.

Albite had stuttered before saying ‘blue’. Jadarite had two literary things that went together and one that stood out too much. Lionel had two that described who he was and only one that described what he did. Lilith’s were likewise too specific, expect being out of the country. Tama just wanted Heliodor to like his coffee as black as his soul and he had the body for ballet. He also wanted to hear about Cryloite’s dossiers, but doubted they were real.

Alkmene… well, Tama just wanted him to prove that last bit.

And, lastly, came Faustite. His was the hardest. None could be true. But then he remembered a fact about the Rift and how the man, half-youma though he was, couldn’t be that old.

“I haven’t slept with a human.” He said with a sigh, finally allowing his guard down. As soon as he did — POOF! He was a cat again. “It would require me being able to hold that form for more than a few minutes.”

So, Tama had been bluffing about the sex. Faustite might have been, too. That was what men did, wasn't it?

Also, apparently, Lillith, who was talking about OnlyFans, and Jada couldn't help but raise a curious eyebrow in her direction. Not judgemental, but maybe a bit jealous that she was making money out of it.

None of the others were trying to make waves with their statements, and Jadarite could respect that. Her mouth even twitched into a hint of a smile at the innocent way that Albite tried to lie about liking blue.

"I haven't gotten my hands on Tolkien's autograph yet," she said, when her turn to speak came back around. "I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to spend a few thousand dollars on a book."

This was spoken in the tone of someone who did, in fact, think that it was worth it to spend a few thousand dollars on a rare enough book and who simply hadn't admitted that to herself yet.

Heliodor looked to the senshi who had introduced himself as Lionel. Gold eyes studied the other young man carefully as if trying to take in his measure from just appearance alone. He offered a smirk though at the guess to his list of truths and lie.

With everyone having apparently arrived, the guessing section of the game had come to an end apparently and Helio noted he hadn't voiced any of his thoughts on lies and truths, but honestly found it much more enjoyable to sit back and just watch the dynamic of the team.

Being part of a team so boisterous, loud and together...was an odd feeling.

"I have no time for reading, let alone reading the stuffy words in classics." He admitted as his eyes flitted over to Jadarite who had just made it quite obvious her love for the hobby.

"If I had the time..." He shrugged casually, "I might find the hobby itself fun. But, there's only so many hours in a day."

Albites eyes got wider - and widest - and -- he thought, personally, that it wasn't very nice for Tama to lie about being a person when he was, in fact, only a cat in disguise!! It was a cool trick though and the genuine surprise on Albites face stayed until the end reveal. Simmered and flit to his dearest Firebrand, only to become a leer; cause he really hoped that last juicy tidbit was true. Wanted details. Maybe that was the best part of the game? It gave him questions to ask after that he wouldn't've known to ask before.

Tales on tails and getting tail - galore.

N Heliodore --- "You should make the time Helio'. I don't do, um..the book things, but s**t - it could be fun? Like a club? Oh! A reading power hour! Jada -- Jada -- pssst, make it a thing." bookish people who would've liked time set aside for getting words read. Something he could get behind, because not only did it scream team bonding? But also, it sounded cozy as ********! At least, the way he imagined reading books signed by celebrity's that were way longer than the movies made of them, should've been.

"Also' yeah - maybe my favorite color isn't blue," pointiest look at where Cryolite circled off, he dropped the urge to badger him about the fact that he'd never once seen him eat a baby animal -- and he knew he wasn't born in DC..so he had to have lived somewhere else at least some point....and..wait - were all of his lies?! b*****d cheat! "but it's not like blue isn't also a nice color." solmne nod and grin as he fidgeted with the ends of endless locks, daisy chained them between his fingers absentmindedly as he spoke on nothing at all.

N absoposalutely kept his yap shut about Hina n Haru, even if he couldn't hide the huge-a** smile he'd had the whole time they said, well, anything at all. He figured all of it was truths for the pair, n that they were being sneaky.

Cyrolite's mirth for Tama only grew by degrees, because goodness! Not only was he fluffy, cute, but he had a little capelet that stayed through forms!? Fascinating. He was going to discreetly beg cuddles another time - maybe an ear scritch or two? If the mau was amenable to it.

The thought of asking though? He was suddenly restless, which led him to skirting the rest enough to brush by Lionel's kind offering, to steal cold glass to his lips rather than answer anyone outright. He was thirsty, and the lilt of a buried accent and height that rivaled Albites was as entertaining as the idea that so many of them came from different places. He didn't know Galway from Waru's home City of Kribi - that Waru didn't state it plainly? Dismissible, with him it could've been any number of the phantasmagorical variety of distractions on display; endlessly new people to woo and meet.

Though Syrus suspected it was simply that Waru had become subconsciously good at keeping his dual existences separate, quite accidentally.

"You're right Faustite, I've no time for full dossiers on anything. I do though, have a little black book with very interesting footnotes in it." a diary the size of a pocket-bible, and he had two. One for himself, one for the day to day filled with only the most egregious of notable persons who would've been of any useful exploit to him and him alone.

If his private one for personal use was gold, powder blue, and embroidered with hot glued gemstones? Maybe he'd take that to his grave.

"Lionel, is it? Galway seems so specific, you're not from here originally maybe, but is the name of the city a lie?" his other offers were so vauge, a sister, a guitar. "I wonder if they serve Guinness there as well?" he was hanging his hedge on the barest hint of an accent. Having his fun even as he tilted the pilfered offering of goodwill the corrupts way. It was even easier to look up at him if he was drinking - less strain on the neck with a hop'ish aftertaste.

Alas, a wrong guess. Lionel shrugged, but flashed Cryolite an amused grin. The guess made him shake his head, just a little.

"Sorry to say, but I was indeed born in Galway, where they do in fact serve Guinness. No sister to speak of, though." As far as he knew. He supposed he might have relatives he simply wasn't aware of, given that he knew basically nothing about his family, but that was in-depth details no one else needed. His sob story was nothing for anyone else, especially not when he didn't want to give anyone in the Negaverse more than he already had. Not when he had so many...less than loyal thoughts.

------

The revelation of Tama's lie was, in fact, the death of Alkmene's self-restraint.

"If you ever do figure that problem out, I'd love to help you make that lie a truth," he said, playfully. Might as well get a little entertainment out of this whole thing, or well, a little extra entertainment. The entire procedure was already incredibly fun.

He gave a long moment's thought to which of Faustite's own statements might be a lie, but it was difficult to guess--except the third one; he strongly suspected that Faustite had slept with at least five of them, given there were at least that count of men present.

"Faustite," he said, finally, "I....am going to guess that you don't know what your past life was." It seemed the least likely, since as far as Alkmene understood, most officers definitely did not know that. They got their mineral names from the start. So....maybe?

"I, tragically enough, am not quite flexible enough to fold myself in half."

------

Jada's raised eyebrow in her direction got a quirked pair and a smile from Lilith.

"I think," she said, looking over at Jada, "that if you'd like to get it, you should. Signatures like that don't come around often, and it'd be the jewel of any fan's collection." It was also exactly the sort of stupid thing Lilith would very seriously consider buying, just....in a different fandom.

But it was her turn to tell her truth. "My lie is that I have indeed been out of the country. I have family in Japan, and I've occasionally had cause to attend events in Europe."

So many interesting little reveals. Pity no one lied for all three; he would've liked to know who didn't play by the rules. Not that he minded rule-followers, especially when it came to battlefield orders.

Still, the only one he knew of was Tama, who simply didn't want to follow his orders.

So far, this little trial panned out — his subordinates were beginning to talk to each other, to have offshoot conversations that might've been the start of getting to know each other better. It was what he could hope for; familiarity bred some level of trust. Perhaps they would even learn to rely on each other, should they team up on a mission.

His eyes flickered to Alkmene at the sound of his name. Sweet boy, for trying to guess. "Mm.

"Two half-truths and a lie. Know his name was Velvet, don't know his Knight name. Learned it from a golden vial that I found in the Rift.

"Saw the opening of the Rift, too. Have an artifact that lets me experience others' memories. So I saw it through Wolframite's eyes, though I wasn't there myself." Wolframite explained that it opened when he was, what, ten? Would've made for a terrible officer then, if they ever bothered to recruit anyone so young.

"So," and he shrugged, palms supine. "Haven't slept with five of you." He could, though — there were at least five eligible boys in the room.

So Faustite had lied about his exploits. Tama had lied too. What did that say about them?

Tama licked his paws clean, not wanting to be anything like him.

“I’ll take you up on the offer once my forms stabilize.” He said with a wink to Alkmene. “Since we’ve been encouraged to get to know each other and all.”
