She sauntered around the fancy parlor. The group had a medical emergency and they desperately needed coin to pay the healer. He would do anything for her strange adopted family. Even if that meant they had to break their no theft rule. Kellye had asked her with his eyes. She was the best of them at theft after all. She inspected some shelves, wishing it was the bedroom instead but as it was night it was likely the bed was occupied. She couldn't fail, so she could not take the risk of being caught.

He was returning with a group of gents from the basement of the large house where a sedate party was taking place. He had been assigned as security for these hoity toity fops. He was also all dressed up and looking dapper. He was also trying to ignore the way the daughters of this family kept staring at him like he was desert. He opened the door to what should have been a parlour, only to find a familiar pair of panicked eyes connect with his. The girl from the cherry tree grove. He started coughing.
"I'm sorry gentlemen but i have such a fiery itch in my throat, allow me to go to the kitchen to get a drink. I wouldn't want to disturb your fine conversation. Give me a moment.
He slammed the door in their rather confused faces. He looked at her like 'Why did you make me do this?'

Her cover was blown, she would be arrested. Who knew how they would cover the bills. So much for having a safe place in this new place where their reputation was unblemished. She should have been more careful. She had not heard anyone since breaking in. The boy who had caught her slammed the door shut before anyone else saw her. She tilted her head in curiosity and fingered the large blade that she had strapped to her thigh. She had designed it herself and she trained with it often. She dipped her chin defiantly.

She was proud this one from the tilt of her chin. It seemed that she had not recognized him from that day. He couldn't blame her. He looked quite different from the shaggy boy as he'd been. She was fondling a weapon. Excellent. She was thinking she would have to defend herself from him, he surmised.
"I'm not going to tell. Take whatever you want." It would be a shame to see her behind bars. He couldn't bring himself to do it, even though he had been hired tonight for just that purpose. "I just want to know why."

She eyed him suspiciously but being at his mercy, she thought she might as well try the truth. Rolling her eyes and looking quite sulky. She pulled out her notebook and wrote on pad for him.
- To pay a friend's doctor bill. -
She showed him the paper. She couldn't pull any more money, from her budding business and her friend had been seriously ill. She would do it all over again if she had to.

He didn't comment on her interesting method of communication, instead wondering if she would remember they had encountered each other once before, however briefly and from however far away. Maybe she had been too worried about her current precarious predicament. She was much closer now than she had been before and he saw a face to match the beauty that his imagination had created at a distance. She was stunning. And frowny, rather like himself.

When he didn't comment on her method of communication, she relaxed just a bit. Usually that was the first question people would ask. Recognition finally dawned; the boy from the cherry grove. Well, he had certainly filled out nicely, she smirked just the tiniest bit. Perhaps that was why he was protecting her and risking his security job. Kellye was right, all men were the same. But still it was a kindness all the same.

"I see you finally remember who I am." Her face had made it quite clear without the notepad. "How much was the bill for the healer?"
He had decent funds and his brother and he were very successful. Having hybridized their parents beast taming techniques with their own individual flair.
"If I get you the required money, will you leave quietly?"
He glanced back at the door nervously.

She wrote the number down for him. The sum was just out of their reach in their current circumstances. It was hard enough having enough food for everyone.
They were trying to better themselves.

She showed him the notebook again. Well, whatever happened they would get over whatever obstacles got in their way. They had no other choice. At his question she nodded.

"Good. I'll get you the money. Where will I be able to find you?"
He would pull the funds. It wasn't all that much. "If it's ever an animal who gets sick, my mother heals them. She is the best. Here is her card." He passed her his mother's and thus his own address.
They so far did not have a healer in the family for people.

She wrote her address down for him. Still a bit shocked that he wasn't going to turn her in. She couldn't believe it. She politely took the card he offered and bobbed her head in thanks. She didn't want to wait much longer so she flared her eyes and sketched a quick bow before dashing out of the other door and out the back. As she had promised. He was a strange strange boy.

A day later he showed up at the place she had told him holding a fat bag of coin in a satchel. At least he wouldn't have to worry about catching her thieving again. Well if she had been telling the truth that was anyway. He had no way to verify that except with time. He knocked on the door and waited. Why was he doing this again? He wasn't normally the altruistic sort and his heart was racing like he had chewed the awake bark.

Sae answered the door expectantly. Yet she was still surprised that the boy from the house the other night had shown up.
She scribbled on her pad solemnly. She invited him inside, no one else was home for a change. She offered him bread and milk. It was all they had really but it kept them full. Hopefully the smithy would prosper then at least she wouldn't be as much of a burden on them as they all found their new niches.

He brought out the coin promptly and set it on the table.
"Don't worry about paying it back. Just get your people healthy again, I know that I would have done the same in your position."
Probably best to avoid thievery though. These small villages were close knit and people would notice. He accepted the bread and milk and completely ate it all. Hopefully she wasn't a poisoner.

She scribbled out her biggest question. They had seen each other twice. It wasn't like they were friends and yet he had been so kind asking nothing in return. Almost everyone wanted payment. Or at least reimbursement. She watched him expectantly. He just seemed to keep appearing in her life. Was he one of those spirit guides her mother used to talk about? She was surprised that she had remembered that.
