Aerin was out on the town again- this time, at least not powered. She had been spending a lot of the time just wandering around the city in the general area of the currently-closed museum. She was caught up- ahead, actually, on all of her work, and she didn't have anything better to do, so- random wandering it was.

Currently, she was hanging out by the fountain of a small park it was actually in sight of the museum, but she had never really had the time to check it out before. It was pretty nice; unremarkable, certainly-- there were a thousand other parks like it, but it wasn't a bad time.

Nobody was bothering her, certainly- it was a bit of quiet time to think about her life as it was and the world she had been pulled into- the more Negaverse people she talked to, the more she became fairly convinced their arguments couldn't stand up to scrutiny. At the very least, she was entirely certain fighting youma was the correct move. And preventing murder.

It was consumed in these thoughts that Aerin completely failed to notice that someone was, in fact, coming to bother her.

She knew she could only use the power in this little keychain for about an hour every day.

It made Viatrix make sure that when she was going to use it, she always had a particular mission in mind. A few days ago, it was to go out and get the chemistry set that she ordered for herself online after getting tired of Ignacio's continued refusal to just get it for her. (Something about how she was going to set a fire, like he didn't trust her--) Yesterday, it was to go get herself some takeout from one of those fancy cafes with the good soup and the sandwiches. Today, it was to take a walk through a small park, observing and watching for anything that might have seemed suspicious.

If anything, she could cover more ground this way, even if she would have to run and hide and let the civilian guise go away before she could do anything about it.

What she found was ultimately nothing suspicious, though, but rather familiar, and she easily spotted the person who was sitting by the fountain -- nice fountain, honestly, too bad it was winter -- with a grin on her face. Ah, Raksha! Or ... Aerin, Encke told her she was Aerin on this form. Viatrix should go say hello!

There was a bit of mischief to her step as she realized she would definitely be unrecognizable, with the only real consistency between this form and the one she carried as a cat the color of her extensive curls and the nearly matching eyes. Perhaps she could throw one of her new charges for a loop. Get to have fun with someone who wasn't Sailor Encke...

"Hello!" she called from a distance, lifting a hand and waving as she started toward Aerin.

Aerin was startled from her thoughts by the arrival of the stranger, enough so that she jumped, and almost fell into the fountain, but managed to avoid it- it wouldn't have been fun to fall into just-barely-not-freezing water. It would have sucked incredibly, actually.

"Uh- hi!" It was a little odd, to be greeted so enthusiastically by a stranger, especially one Aerin couldn't even a little bit place- she gave Viatrix a once-over, trying to match her to literally anyone- a work acquaintance, a student teacher, a regular but young teacher, someone she had bumped into at her college- and came up completely blank. The voice was familiar, but there weren't any cats around. This must just be a nice stranger???

Aerin waved back, with a reasonable degree of enthusiasm. She obviously had no idea this was Viatrix, and was runninh her default be nice to strangers OS. "I like your hair? And your outfit. It's pretty cool."

Viatrix couldn't help a smattering of giggles at the way Aerin quite nearly launched herself into the water.

Perfect.

She could tell she wasn't quite recognized, which made sense, considering she wasn't normally a human, for one thing. It made her wiggle a bit in characteristic excitement, though that might have been seen as a reasonable reaction to being greeted with some enthusiasm in return. "My hair?" Eagerly, she fluffed it, letting the curls fall around her face and bounce as she did. "Thank you! I love my curls too. And isn't this outfit fun?"

It was perhaps an outfit that was a bit on the side of excessive. Her coat, for one, reached her ankles, and though she wasn't exactly tall that was still a bit excessive for a coat. She might have left the top part mostly unbuttoned to reveal a shirt full of swirls and unnecessary pops of color.

Because why not.

"Definitely much more interesting than what I'm normally wearing."

"It's very fun- You should wear fun clothes all the time. Listen- life is short. If you're not dressing in a way that brings you joy, you should. And if anyone tries to stop you, they're not the sort of person you should have been listening to anyway. Ans that's that on that."

Aerin didn't know this person, but she did know that this person should be wearing fun shirts more, since it brought them joy.

"Uh- sorry, your voice sounds super familiar? Do I… know you from somewhere?" The voice was SO familiar, though, except the only person it was reminding Aerin of was a cat, which the person standing in front of her definitely was not. Normally in this sort of situation, she'd guess she was talking to someone related to someone she knows, but that didn't solve the whole cat thing.

Aerin tilted her head more, trying again to place the familiar person as anything other than a cat, which made no sense. "I'm Aerin, if that helps?"

The concept of wearing fun clothing all the time was admittedly one she liked. It was too bad she could only take this form an hour a day. If she had the choice, she would have so many fun outfits, but she didn't want to waste her time in this form simply selecting outfits over and over again until she ran out of time and found herself drowning in a pile of clothing--

"You're right!" Viatrix spun around in her overly long coat, giggling her delight as she felt the way her hair moved and the way her clothing moved. It felt odd not to have something running through her fur at the same time, but she would certainly adjust. "It's best to do things that bring you joy, right? And this obnoxious outfit brings me joy!"

It also kept her warm, which was a bonus, just as much as being partially recognized did. She hummed her response to being asked if she was known, watching as Aerin seemed to be trying to figure out exactly who the person was in front of her. She was getting there. Slowly. Viatrix was fairly sure she wouldn't get to it on her own, but it was fun to see her try--

Oh, perfect.

"Hi, Aerin!" She chirped, her eyes practically dancing in her delight, "It's Viatrix!"

"See, you're getting it- Viatrix? I thought you were a cat? You were definitely a cat the last time I saw you."

Aerin was obviously completely perplexed by the situation- a cat mysteriously being a human person was one of the weirder things she had seen thus far, but she wasn't unhappy to see Viatrix- actually, she was quite pleased- Viatrix was sweet, and probably very fun to talk to, and also obviously excited to see Aerin, but it was still what the kids called a "******** weird" occasion.

However, there was also at least some concern of how Viatrix had gotten there; it was probably bad for cats to drive without licenses. Even if they were nice cats, that were also magical and could talk.

"Hi? It's good to see you. You didn't steal a car, right?"

"I was!" She spun around again, showing off the fact that she was currently not a cat, and stopped with a wide grin. "But now I'm a human! For like the next, uh," she pulled out her phone and squinted at it before continuing with, "uh, thirty-five minutes?"

Viatrix scrunched her nose, and she didn't like the way it scrunched necessarily but she did appreciate the expressiveness -- "I can only do this for like an hour or so!"

Steal a--

The not-a-cat got distracted by the concept of stealing a car and burst into laughter once more at the concept, instantly imagining the concept of putting paws on the wheel and finding a way to press the pedals from afar. She was fairly certain these human car things wouldn't be that hard to figure out, admittedly, but she didn't really want to drive one. Felt like that'd be wasting too much time as a human.

"Of course not! I walked here. Us Mauvians really know our way around town ya know." She took out her keychain, spinning it around her finger. "It's good to see you too! How's life treating you, hmm? How's the gift going?"

The gift was clearly an euphemism.

Being able to turn into a human for one hour each day was enough to impress Raksha- even if it wasn't for long, it was significantly more than the whole 0 minutes Raksha had previously thought possible.

Viatrix's mirth was also, if nothing else, infectious.

Her attempt at secrecy, though- Speaking in code to avoid people finding out about magic was one thing, it was another to speak so freely about being a mauvian and then in the same paragraph attempt to hide it with a euphemism. That was at least a little bit funny.

"The gift? It's been pretty good. I went to my planet- it's pretty cool up there. I've also been wandering around randomly? I mean I almost got shot by a Velencian because I scared her on accident, but- it's been pretty cool. Weird? But cool."

"...Am I supposed to be doing something other than wander around randomly until I find a youma or someone to talk to, though?" It didn't seem to be a particularly efficient strategy, on account of not having found any youma so far.

Viatrix probably should have considered that wavering between code and reality was asking for trouble, but she also trusted that the people who were really walking in this park on such a cool day probably weren't paying terribly much attention to the woman in a long coat and her friend.

Her eyes widened minutely when she mentioned nearly getting shot at by a Velencian, but that eased back in the next second once it was clarified why. "Don't scare me like that," came out breathlessly, even if it was mostly a tease. "I suppose we didn't mention the Velencians, did we -- there's so much to learn! I can tell you more about what we know about them, other than the fact that they're aliens -- Encke's really close to one of them."

Encke might appreciate some confirmation of what he suspected, at least. Viatrix made a mental note to tell him later that the Velencians hadn't exactly gone back to Velencya.

"Oh! Ah, do you know how you can feel people in your vicinity when powered yet? Because one of the good methods in patrolling is to feel those darker, uncomfortable sensations and go check up on what they're doing. Try to keep it level-appropriate, though. If it feels oppressive, don't go after them. Not unless you feel one of our own that might need backup I suppose..."

She admired the fact that Sailor Anser had insisted on it when she was a beginner senshi, but she'd rather the rest of her charges not do that.

"It wasn't her fault- she was in an alley because her-" What had she called it, again, "Com-Tech had died, and I wasn't paying attention and practically jumped on her."

"And- You mentioned them a little! Just the name. We were talking about a lot of other things. I want to know everything, though. There are real space aliens! That are alive! I want to borrow their physics textbooks."

When Viatrix started explaining how to track other people- it confirmed her theories, and it had been- was- a good thing to check up on, it was Correct. But Viatrix was nice, and it felt mean to admit that she had gone looking for proof Viatrix was secretly evil. But it felt worse to lie that she didn't know how to do a thing she did. "Uh, well…"

"I did find a couple of them? They didn't hurt me, or anything. Mostly they just answered a few questions and seemed somewhat miserable in different directions. Especially Sylvite?"

Com-Tech -- right, that was the thing the other Velencians used to translate English, along with other things she imagined; an interesting little piece of technology Viatrix would be interested in getting her hands on even if it still couldn't be as good as Mauvian technology (although perhaps she was quite biased in her opinion).

"Oh, good! Sorry, we talked about so much," Viatrix grinned, "I can tell you what I know though. Though maybe somewhere else. Maybe we should start walking?"

She gestured for Aerin to follow her, beginning off in a direction that would at least take them to an area a bit less blatantly in the public. It was, admittedly, partially because the more she had to talk, the more likely it would be that her guise would slip away, and even if she thought no one was really paying attention to their conversation, people would definitely notice if a normal human was very suddenly a chatty cat--

Her brows rose when Aerin told her she had actually found a few of them, rose further when she said none of them had hurt her. "Oh, good. That they didn't attack you, I mean. You're lucky you ran across some of the dissatisfied ones and not the ones who will go for blood no matter what. Be careful, alright?"

Sylvite wasn't a familiar name to her. She'd have to see if Encke knew it... She slid out her cell phone, tapping off a message to him of, Have you met a Sylvite? as she continued aloud with a, "Usually when they seem that miserable they make good candidates for talking to about purification, though, though be careful with that too. Some of them don't take very kindly to getting rid of the chaos oyster stink."

Aerin followed Viatrix; talking about stuff somewhere a little less public was a good idea. It would be… bad, if anything went wrong.

"...I'll be careful." Aerin filed away the knowledge that some of the Negaverse would shoot on sight for future reference; She had been able to calm Fulgurite down and have a conversation, but that might not be the case for others.

"I don't know if Sylvite would want to swap sides? She seemed- genuinely very kind. but also like she was rationalizing doing a lot of really terrible things because some senshi really, really hurt her and some other fresh Negaverse recruits when she was 14."

"She mentioned an invasion, or something? Not of the planet, of their home base. Which seemed- weird, for a lot of reasons. Mostly logistical. Do you have any idea what she was referring to?"

Seiana_ZIx
PostPosted: Thu Jan 20, 2022 11:16 pm

Viatrix ended up taking the two of them to a more tree-laden area of the park. They could just hide among the trees. Usually, she would default to an alleyway, but that kind of ruined the point of her coming to the park in the first place. At least she could still keep a loose eye on things over here--

"Good," she frowned, watching Aerin with something that could definitely be named as concern. She was glad that Aerin had found Negaverse members that were friendly so far, really, but considering the types she had run into before and what she knew, that had thus far been luck.

Viatrix hadn't wanted her luck to run out.

She listened, quietly, as Aerin explained what Sylvite talked about. The invasion that Aerin was referring to happened before Viatrix had reawoke, she was fairly sure, definitely happened before she managed to find her senshi. Encke was there, though, so she did have a loose idea of what she was talking about from what he had told her and Basiluzzo over the years.

"The invasion of Negaspace?" She tilted her head. "I wasn't there for that, but I do know about it from Encke. A Velencian who had been trapped in their Rift for a thousand years managed to escape and figured out a way to get into it to make a strike at their heart. Hoping to get to Metallia. Order managed to retrieve hundreds of stolen starseeds that would have otherwise gone to feed their operation or Metallia directly. Cosmos had to bail us out, though, because the Negaverse started overwhelming us."

Viatrix frowned.

"Guess that's expected, considering."

Being stuck in a zone of monsters for a thousand years sounded like a nightmare. Especially if all of them were as violent and unpleasant as the one in the museum.

So it had been an organized thing, But it was also been more complicated than Sylvite had presented it as- for one thing, Sylvite had lied. Starseed-taking- murder- was definitely not an emergencies-only sort of thing if there were hundreds of them just stored somewhere- Theoretically, it was possible for Viatrix to have been the one to lie, here, but it seemed unlikely; Aerin hadn't brought up starseeds, and it seemed an unnecessarily complicated lie to tack on.

(Judging from their conversation and how Sylvite had reacted in it, she was probably lying to herself just as much as she had lied to Aerin.)

"...That's a lot of people."

It felt stupid, obvious to say, but- that was a lot of them. People with families and lives. Families who would never have any idea what happened to them. People did a lot of terrible, terrible things when cornered and desperate, and some wars were worth it, but all wars were made of atrocities. That much was demonstrable with a quick read of… any history textbook.

That was different. It was premeditated. Had to be, and if it wasn't, that was worse, actually? If the Negaverse would murder hundreds on a whim, that was worse.

Aerin dug her nails into her coat, doing her best to muzzle the white-hot anger enough to not claw a tree about it.

"Murdering hundreds of people and locking their souls in a magic vault is not the act of a desperate person."
