The dagger found its mark easily, Solari pushed herself up from the seat she’d taken at the table and walked over to the board. It was still early in the day to be in this so-called bar but she had nowhere else to go right now until she returned home from Belrea. She’d stopped at this bar in particular because they had a small area dedicated to being able to play darts with a variety of tools. It was what made it so popular. However, since no one was in at this time of day, Solari was now officially bored.

Lucretia entered the building with a few friends. During the day they were allowed inside up until a certain time and she always loved coming here to play with friends on some of their weapon throwing areas. The place was as usual empty with the exception of a Matori girl who didn’t even bother to look at them as they came in. Lucretia headed right for the rack of weapons as her friends gossiped.
“Are any of you going to play or are you going to keep gossiping?” Lucretia picked up an axe and threw it at the target. She didn’t miss by much.

Solari only turned towards the gaggle of teenage girls when one of them threw an axe at the target and missed by a bit. Hm… She got up and made her way over while thumbing her throwing knives.
“If they won’t play I can.” Maybe she could get some money out of her, the girl didn’t look like a street urchin. “We could always wager too to make things interesting?” She hoped the girl would take her bait, Solari didn’t feel bad taking any money especially not from girls who looked like this one. “What do you say?” She smiled.

Lucretia had been about to throw a second weapon when the Matori woman walked over and wanted to play. She gave her a once over, brow lifting at her appearance. She hadn’t failed to notice the strap of throwing knives at her thigh. It could be dangerous to play this woman, she could have quite the skills, but Lucretia wasn’t one to turn down any kind of competition.
“Sure,” Luc gave her a wide predatory smile. “How much did you have in mind?” The other girls perked up and quieted at the sound of a wager. They weren’t exactly supposed to do it because of their age, but she wasn’t one to turn one down either.

Solari tapped her chin as she pretended to think it over. She wanted to bleed her dry so she wanted to give a number where she wouldn’t have enough but would reveal exactly how much money she actually had.
“200?” She tried, there was no way she carried more than that. Maybe 100… But 200 was a far stretch. Solari had made a nice profit stealing in Belrea but it was going to be nice to polish off the top with a few more coins. She had no qualms taking from children either, not that this girl was a child but still close enough.

“200?” Was that all this woman had? No, she would not have given up all her coins in one go. “Feels a little low. How about 500?” Luc did not have 500 on her, but she knew her friends had enough on them combined to get to 500. They knew she was good to pay them back. If the Matori woman didn’t have 500 then they’d just bet whatever money she had left on her. She wasn’t one to compete for the money anyway, her family had more than enough of it. No, she just liked the thrill of competing, money was just the bonus.

Solari whistled.
“I’ve got 500, but the question is do you?” This kid couldn’t be serious. Was she really this good? There was no way she was bad and willing to settle on such a huge amount unless she really was good. Solari glanced at her friends who were all smiling, practically drooling at the idea of a bet. Maybe she should have waited a bit and seen the girl’s skills before actually proposing this. Maybe there was a real chance she was about to lose a large sum of money. She didn’t look one bit scared of competing with Solari.

“You don’t need to worry about that.” Lucretia took out her coin purse and placed it on the table before taking out the gold and counting it in front of the Matori. “Marii can you put in the missing 100 coins?” Another Belrean girl stood up and began counting out her coins before placing them on the table.
“I hope you win. I want a piece of that pie.” She said before taking her seat again once she was done.
“See? 500 coins. Do you want to go first or shall I?” Lucretia was already thinking of taking up the throwing knives like the Matori.

Okay, Solari was impressed. “No, I have the coin.” She herself began counting out her own money onto the table. She couldn’t believe she was about to double her coin in one single go by beating this child at weapons throwing.
“You can go first.” She said while counting. She wasn’t too picky, and she wanted to see how the girl was going to throw as well as her weapon of choice.
“I’m Solari by the way,” She stuck her hand out. “May the best one win.” Ha, what a joke. Solari was sure she’d win even if this girl looked full of herself.

Lucretia took the extended hand and shook it. “Lucretia.”
Turning towards the weapons rack, Luc picked out the throwing weapons. Long-range was her specialty even if throwing daggers weren’t something, she used every day. But she knew that she had the skills necessary.
“Best of 3?” She called, looking back at Solari. Bets of three rounds, five throws each per round… Yup, that sounded about right. She might lose the first round, but Luc was certain she wouldn’t lose the next two after that. This was just a practice round after all. She’d evaluate Solari’s skills as well from the sidelines.

“Works for me.” Solari moved to the side to allow Lucretia access to the target. She perked a brow when she noticed that she was picking up throwing knives as well. Was this some kind of power move? If she thought she could intimidate the Matori she was sorely wrong. Solari had been using throwing knives for a very long time now, if this girl wanted to win, she was going to have to beat her at her game. Lucretia took her aim and Solari just knew she had this round in her pocket. There was no way Luc was going to beat her.

Lucretia lost the first round.
She had prepared for as much as she learned the weapons, their weight in her hand and the force she needed to throw them at to hit the bullseye. Aiming was the easiest bit for her, but still, she had to grudgingly agree that Solari was very, very good at what she did. She hadn’t been smug about the win though at least and Luc’s friends had looked disappointed. Lucretia knew they were savouring her loss, she never lost usually so this was a rare occasion for them to witness. Lucretia wouldn’t make the same mistakes twice, however.

Solari lost the second round.
She was furious. Not only had Lucretia’s skill exponentially improved this round, but she’d also actually beat her by the skin of her teeth. Solari blamed it on the fact that she’d slacked maybe a little too much this round thinking she had it in the bag considering how the first round had gone. She wouldn’t underestimate Lucretia again; she couldn’t afford to lose those coins and she didn’t think her ego could take a hit like getting beaten by some kid who had just picked up throwing knives. Thank god there was no one she knew around to laugh at her.

The final round was evenly matched. Lucretia had gone first again and hit bullseye but so had Solari. Lucretia had made a sour face; she knew both of them would be giving it their all considering how close the second round had gone. Lucretia got in line for her next throw.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
Everyone turned to see the bartender looking down at two large pouchs of coins.
“Are you gambling with kids?” Lucretia shared a look with Solari.
“No…” She said carefully, but she knew the lie wouldn’t pass.
“Out, now. All of you.” He waved at all of them.

Solari groaned. She’d just been about to kick this girls butt! Still, she wasn’t about to get arrested in Belrea. As the other girls began to shuffle out, Solari grabbed her pouch of coins and Luc’s pouch as well. While no one was looking she began shifting coins from Luc’s pouch to hers. She also swiped some rocks from the ground when she got outside and quickly placed those in the pouch as well.
“Alright well I don’t have any more time, was fun but I’ll see you all later.” Solari threw the pouch at one of the girls, making sure she’d miss before she turned and walked away.
