Since she'd let her son stay with her family in Sulbrui she hadn't seen or heard from him in over two weeks. No letter or anything. He'd just forgotten that she existed apparently and didn't need to know if he was even okay. So that led to her making the trip back to the big city to check in on him. Kalliope didn't mind of course but she was a bit upset that she had to make the trip to begin with. If Visha had just listened to her and written to her once a week then there would be no need.

He sat on the porch with a hand fan in his hands waving it gently to ease some of the heat. It also kept the kohl around his eyes from smudging in the heat. A trick he'd picked up while in the city. He had to admit it was a nice one too. Not only did it cool him down but saved him from having to wash his face and reapply the eye line. It also added to his sass. One could be so expressive with a hand fan if they really wanted to.

When she saw her family's house she smiled. At least she was almost there and wouldn't have to worry about walking too much farther. Then she spotted someone on the porch. With a squint she tried to make out who it was. From a distance she couldn't quite tell but she was almost certain that the hair and color looked like her own child. If he was seriously relaxing on the porch and not writing a letter home to her then she was likely to grab him by his ear and drag him to the nearest desk to remedy the situation.

In the middle of him fanning away he noticed someone coming up the road and that caught his attention. It was awfully late in the day for someone to be walking their street. Unless it was a neighbor returning home. But he was fairly certain he'd seen all of them return already. (He was a bit of a people watcher.) So he leaned forward a little to look, his head tilting some as he waited for more of the features to come into view. "Almost looks like Mama." He said to himself.

She saw the person lean forward when they spotted her and she adopted a slight scowl. Let her son try to say he didn't recognize her and she might throw her shoe at him. (Not really, that was likely the heat talking.) When she got closer she put one hand on her hip to show she was less than thrilled. Once she reached the gate she paused to glare right at Visha. "Really? This is how you greet your mother?"

The person got closer and he could tell it was a woman. Closer still and he noticed the outfit. Oh. He knew that outfit. He sat back and stilled his hand a bit. Why was his mother here? Was something wrong? Then he watched as she paused by the gate and asked him a question.
"What? No." He got up and walked toward the gate. "I'm just surprised that you're here. Is something wrong?"

Her eyes stayed narrowed as she watched her son get up and come to the gate. "Yes, there is something wrong." She stated, her other hand joining the first in going to her hips. Kalliope was hoping the boy was truly in the dark and no playing stupid. She looked at his over all appearance and noticed that he seemed to be in good health. Nothing was broken or missing at the very least.

His eyes widened when his mother said that. "Goodness! Mama, what happened? Is everyone okay?" He instantly went to the worst case scenario. Visha opened the gate for his mother, though she very well could have done it herself since it hadn't been locked, and waved her in. "Are Korin and Sekani alright? What about dad?" If she was here then it must be serious.

Her eyes looked at the gate then back at her child before she stepped inside and reached up with one hand. Instantly she snagged him by the ear and pulled him down to her. "I seem to have a son who doesn't know how to write his poor mother a letter to let her know he's still alive." She said with a tone that was less than thrilled. "Do you know how nerve wracking that is?"

When his ear was had he cringed and moved with the hand to avoid any harsh tugging. "Ouch. Mama! Stop. You'll rip my earring out!" Of course she wasn't listening to him. She was ranting about a son that didn't write letters home.
Oh wait.. That was him. He stopped squirming to look up at her with a bit of a sheepish expression. "I'm sorry Mama. I just got so swept up in everything." Being in the city was distracting to say the least.

"You were so distracted that you forgot to make sure you let your mother know you were alive?" She said with a bit of doubt. Kalli knew that things in the big city could be exciting but she hadn't pegged her son for one to forget to let someone know he was alright.
She finally let go of his ear and sighed. "Do you know how absolutely worried I was? No word from you or my parents for weeks. I wasn't sure if something happened." And that had been the worst part. Not knowing.

When his ear was let go he reached up to rub at the sensitive fin. "Ow. That hurt." He whined gently with a small pout.
"I really didn't mean to forget. I just got busy with shopping and then the new friends I made. It was an honest mistake Mama." Visha was hoping that his mother would understand and not make him go back home with her. He was having so much fun in the city.

She shook her head at him but did seem to relax a bit in the shoulders, as though some tension was leaving them. "I'm glad you are having fun Visha, but you did have me worried." Case in point, the fact that she was standing there in her parent's yard rather than being at home.
"Try to make sure you write every week. If not then you will have to come home. My nerves cannot deal with that." While she trusted her family to watch over him she still liked the reassurance.

He paled at the idea of being made to go home before the summer season was up. "No Mama! There are a few parties coming up that I was invited to. Please don't make me leave yet." He reached out with both hands to grab hold of her arm, his fan folded neatly so that it didn't bend and become misshapen. "I promise to write." He could always tell her about everything. And of course he could send stuff home for his siblings too if that would make her feel better.

She gently pat his hands and sighed. "Fine. Please just remember to write." Kalliope nodded her head at him.
With the initial worry taken care of she then smiled at him. "I like the new look sweetheart. The kohl looks good with your eyes." Her free hand came up to cup his cheek gently. "I'm surprised you haven't started to wear coloring on the lids yet."
