It wasn’t often that Siel traveled North, less so now that he wasn’t with his fathers. Occasionally when Callum and Nim deviated away from Matori they would go back to Zena to see their eldest son’s family, but since Siel had branched out on his own his visits were less frequent. He normally haunted Jauhar, picking up bits and pieces for his trade, but he’d started to miss his family. More so his nieces and nephews. The young bard had managed to see his nephews before his big sister took off to Belrea with her sickly man wife and now it was on to Zena!
He hadn’t sent so much as a letter saying he was coming. Why should he? Sol couldn’t read. Ah, but in hindsight his husband could….Well, he was already here, so surely they wouldn’t mind a visitor? Siel hefted his bag over his shoulder and came up the familiar road to his brother’s house, listening to sounds of various animals just over the crest.

The mild weather brought out all sorts of critters, including one rambunctious young girl. Her curly hair bounced as she played tag with a scrofa around the barn. Well, she thought they were playing tag. The boar-like creature was actually torn between being curious about the earthling and being determined to not get caught. It skittered side to side, darting heavily in all directions and clacking its teeth to try deter the child, but it did no good. Fiadah was a determined little thing and kept up the chase with squeals of laughter.

It was a little strange to him how even now there was snow. So many travelers had talked about how mild the winter was so far and all he could do was think about how crazy they must have been. His muscular frame was bundled under layers of fur and leather, doing his best to keep as warm as the jungles he was used to.
Just as he felt a shiver run down his spine he heard some noises from ahead – peels of laughter, to be exact – and a grin split his face. Siel wasted no time in moving towards the sounds and there he saw his target. “Fiaaaadaaaahhhh!” There may have been distance between them, but the man was loud.

The poor scrofa was starting to get irritated, growling at the oblivious girl. She just kept chasing and reaching out her fingers. So... close....
When she heard her name, she stopped dead in her tracks and looked over to the source. Who was that? Why did the giant know her name? Maybe someone from baba's work? The scrofa beat a hasty retreat while Fiadah was focused on the new arrival. With all the innocence of youth, she bounced forward to get close enough to not need to yell, but not quite close enough to recognize those features. "Baba doesn't work from home today. You gotta go to his office," she stated firmly. It had happened on more than one occasion, and she had been given very specific instructions on sending clients away from Sol's personal home. Of course, she had also been told to stay well away from the clients as well. Half was good, right?

Gods above, that was an ugly little beastie. Why was Fiadah running after it? She should have just put it in a little pasture and let it be! For a moment he was just happy to see her coming closer, imagining a reunion where she’d throw her arms out and – “Wah? I don’t care about that! I’m here to see you, goofball. Don’t you recognize your uncle?” He almost made a quip about her eyes being as bad as her dads, but held himself back. “I mean, I knew you liked Morain and Lutana better, but wow – what a way to show it.”

To see her? Then he wasn't a client for baba.. Her uncle? She pursed her lips and peered closer. Like Uncle Morain and Aunt Lutana and... "Uncle Siel!" She ran as fast as her legs could carry her now that she could see his face and recognized the voice. She might not see him often, but she could never forget special family! "You look like a big mammu in all them layers, I was confused." She wrapped her arms around him as much as she could, but the little pixie's reach was rather minimal as it was. "Did you come to help me catch the scrota? They're so funny looking and scream when you touch 'em. They've been tryin' to get into papa's greenhouse all summer." She looked up at her uncle expectantly, oblivious to her word mishap. Surely he would be willing to help! (edited)

“There it is!” Siel laughed and dropped his satchel so he could throw his arms out for her. She might not have been able to get a good hold on him, but he was certainly able to swing her up in a mighty hug. “Shhh, don’t go saying that around your papa. He might put me in a pen.” He gently put the little one back down on her feet and went to lift up his bag again, only to be caught off guard by her words. “Scrota?” That sounded way too much like…Being the immature man he was, Siel laughed a little and looked over at the nasty creature. “You mean scrofa?”

Fia giggled with amusement. Uncle Siel in a pen?! That would be funny to see, but she also had difficulty seeing anyone who could make him get in there in the first place! Maybe grandpa Nimueh, or grandpa Dex? Neither of them were here though. Oh well! There were other things to focus on anyway. "Yeah, the scrota- the scro..ta. ..Aw nuts." Her brow wrinkled with concentration, trying to figure out the difference in the words. They could still give her difficulty on occasion. Huffing sharply, she turned to point at the stout beast digging up roots at the edge of the yard. "That thing!"

Siel snorted and reached over to ruffle his niece’s curly hair. “Don’t hurt yourself, kid, it’s just a word.” A word for a squat, ugly little thing that really didn’t look that happy to be around them. In all honesty he’d just be happy to pick her up and go inside where it was warm, but if this was what she wanted then by the stars above that thing was coming with them.
“Yeah alright, all we gotta do is catch it, right? And it screams?”

Fiadah's expression lit up once her uncle agreed to catching the creature. Worrying about saying the name properly could wait for later. "Yeah, it screams real loud. It doesn't like being caught, but papa's cranky that they're diggin' around the greenhouse. Catchin' them's the only way they learn to stay away, but they got too smart for the traps. They hear real good, too. You gotta be really sneaky!" She puffed out her cheeks in a slightly pout. "I'm not sneaky enough yet." She wasn't nearly patient enough for such a hunt!

Okay, so all he needed to do was catch the culprit and maybe his brother-in-law wouldn’t be so aggravated about an unexpected house guest. His brother still would be, but that was something Siel could tackle later. “Think you could distract it? If it’s watchin’ you then it won’t be paying much attention to me.” Digging around in his bag, Siel pulled out something plenty noisy enough; a flute. “I’m thinking if you start playing this while chasing it then it’ll run away and I can jump it.”

Being given a job that was much more within her capabilities, and much more fun to boot, Fiadah was more than happy to swipe up the offered flute. "I can do that! I can distract!" She spun on her heel and blew into the flute as hard as she could, immediately focused on the 'chase' part of the plan as opposed to any 'plan' part of the plan. Thankfully, her limbs were fairly coordinated so she was able to take off running while blasting the flute at the same time. She was helping!
Meanwhile, the scrofa raised its snout from the ground with annoyance at the sharp whistling. It was impossible to not focus on the obnoxious earthling and the aggravating noise it made. Growling low again, it started to shuffle away, and then turned into a sprint as 'fast' as those stubby legs could carry it!

Okay well, so much for waiting until he was ready! Siel hurriedly tossed his pack into the limbs of a nearby tree and ducked into a nearby bush. He hoped it was enough to make the thing focus on Fiadah instead of him. Thankfully he was used to tracking and jumping out on things; after all, he was the self-appointed annoying sibling!
He followed along beside the running beastie as best he could from the sidelines, wincing whenever his niece hit a very loud very off pitch note. Bit by bit he was getting closer until…there! Siel burst out of the brush and snatched the scrofa up into his meaty arms. Of course his muscles were enough to contain it, but when it started screaming he damn near dropped it!
In a panic, he looked at his niece and tried to yell over it, “WHAT NOW?”

It was almost easy to forget that she was on a mission! Running around blowing on the flute was just too fun! The scrofa running ahead of her was able to keep her focused though, and she let out a cheer when her uncle leapt out like a masterful kitten pouncing on a mouse! It was so cool!
Her hands smacked over her ears when the screaming began, though her lips curled into a laugh. "You gotta take it to the other side of the creek!" she yelled back. Wait, her uncle had never done it before! Wincing against the noise, she waved the flute for Siel to follow her.

The scofra bucked against him, wiggling it’s fat body back and forth with it’s legs stuck out like sausages. He didn’t think it would be this hard to hold onto it, but one false move and Siel might have dropped it! In all honesty he only heard bits and pieces of what Fiadah was saying, but the waving and walking away was a good enough sign for him. Something about a creek and walking; that much he could do.
Gods, why hadn’t they just fried the thing yet? He was sure they could have made some really nice cutlets out of it or slathered it in butter and – “Wait, I have to cross the creek?” Walk through the water? In Zena? But it was so cold!
