So here's the thing. Morain totally didn't take anything from Kahakura's nest of forgotten treasures/memories. Really! Honest! But uh... he also had failed to LEAVE. You see, there was a quiet fact that he'd failed to point out the night before when she left him here.

He absolutely had no clue where he was. He'd awoken, fairly well rested all things considered. He'd folded up the blankets she kindly let him use, had retied his hair as best he could given the lack of proper 'tools'... and had gathered his skirts to carefully pick his way back down to the forest floor.

A horrifying experience, really, and one more bit of proof he had that he HATED heights.

But then.. he stood, peering around the misty treeline, and realized with a sinking feeling that he really, absolutely, had no idea where he was. So... he sat.

There was no reason to think his benefactor would return, but he didn't imagine he'd be lucky enough to run into a second kind soul - and at least, here, he knew someone came. Sometimes.

Hopefully frequently. He whined to himself and let his head fall back into the tree, closing his eyes. He was so dead.

Rawiri had an earthling friend. That was a fact that probably should have been shameful, or maybe exotic in some circles. 'Oh look, this is my friend Raani, don't you know she has the ability to ROLL her eyes?' Gasp. Awe. Shock.

Big deal, Rawiri could do that.

... But no, really, in some ways Rawiri was surprised at herself for how easily friendship came with the fearful earthling. They were both quiet, in their own ways - but they both enjoyed company, and in that they'd found a kindred spirit in one another.

And now? Now, she was taking the human back home. It wasn't as if it was a taboo - her family lived outside the Elarian settlement, thanks to their dad, and it would be... nice. Her grandmother was flip, but maybe Kahakura would like her?

She was... excited. "Just don't worry about my sister. She is more scared of you than you are of her. ... Ah. Wait. No, that's keldari..." She smirked, poking at Vaani's arm in away she hoped was teasing, and not antagonizing.

Vaani ll 1

In all her years Vaani never expected to make a friend, and at the very least, not one that was an elarian hybrid of all things. She'd been skeptical at first, but Rawiri truly didn't seem to mind the 'curse' that clung to her. The other girl followed her own path in life and her courage bolstered Vaani's as well.

Not by much, but just enough to bring out a more lively side to the yaeli.

Today was the first day she was going to be visiting a friend's home and to do it alone, without her sisters, was something else! What would it be like? She knew they lived closer to the Elarian settlement than many of the yaeli, but just how close? Vaani had never seen a pureblooded Aishan before and now she was going to see two, as well as Rawiri's sister and it was just a lot-

"Ha ha." Vaani rolled her eyes and leaned over to bump her hip against Rawiri's thigh. "One look at me and she'll ask where you found the walking pillow. Seriously though, I hope she likes me. I don't want to make a bad impression."

Kahukura ll 1

Kahukura trusted no one with her things.

She had caches all over yael with each location locked into the recesses of her mind. Individual family members might know of one or two, always out of necessity instead of voluntarily action, but now that she'd left a strange boy in her tree house Kura just couldn't rest. Even when she made it home, tucked herself into bed, snuggled deep into her soft blankets she couldn't seem to relax. What if he took something? What if it burned it to the ground? What if he told others?

And then came the other questions - where was he from? Why did he look like that? Did his skin change colors like other shifters? Questions that meant absolutely nothing to her but ones that Kura's innate curiosity wouldn't let die.

Coupled with the fact that she'd very rarely come into contact with strangers, let alone those she wasn't related to that she found...visually appealing

Well, needless to say, as soon as dawn so much as sniffed the horizon she was already out the door. She hadn't bothered pulling her dreads up or even changing her clothing. Kahukura still wore the same crumpled top from the night before and the only staple was her satchel that hung heavy over her side. She made the straightest course for her tree house and...was unsurprised to see it just...sitting outside?

"You're...still here?"

(2/7)

Morain had closed his eyes, not even giving a thought to the possibility something might emerge from the mists to stab him. Or eat him. ... Okay, he was thinking about it a little, but not enough to stop himself from throwing a pity party. However - a voice called out to him, soft and familiar, and Morain gasped and quickly stood, turning to look at the larger girl with glittering, relieved dark eyes. "It's you!" He whispered, clutching a hand to his heart in obvious relief.

"I came down this morning, and realized... I had no idea where town was! I hoped..." He trailed off, feeling embarrassed. "I sort of hoped you'd come back. To uh... help me. Please? Pretty please?"

Rawiri opened her mouth to reassure the girl that Kahakura would like her fine, but instead just pat her shoulder reassuringly. Because... how could she get her hopes up? Kahakura wouldn't make trouble for her, of that she was sure, but sometimes Rawiri worried that her sister didn't even care for her that much. As younglings, sure, but now that Rawiri was more flirtatious and sociable, Kahakura had only seemed to withdraw into herself and her collections more and more.

"You won't be. And I think dad will like to have you around, whatever else happens. Just stick with me if you feel uncomfortable.""

Kahukura 2

Why was he looking at her like that? For a moment Kura's only instinct was to panic and take a step back. She wasn't used to people being that happy to see her and the whole thing proved to be far more intimidating than she'd planned for. He looked so lost, as if the mere sight of a mossy rock girl was something akin to falling stars and that...was truly pathetic.

Her cheeks burned. "Ah...uh...sorry. I should have thought about that..." How stupid of her! Of course he couldn't find his way back! That's why he'd been wandering around in elaria territory in the first place! "I'll show you the way. It's just behind you..." She started moving closer to him and motioned toward the mists behind Morain. "Are you...have you had food? Did catch anything or do you need something?"

It seemed cruel to make him walk all that way on an empty stomach, especially after she left him here.

"If everything goes well you'll have to come over to my house. Your family is invited too, of course, and I'll let them know. My parents would love having you there." The curse that claimed she and her sisters held little sway over her adventurous parents. They didn't care for superstitious traditions and had never shown any animosity toward Aishans. With any luck Rawiri's father might make a yaeli friend and the two families could build some bonds.

It was a stretch, she knew, but Vaani could hope.

She could hear voices ahead, but just the faint murmur of them. At first Vaani had just thought it was Rawiri's family, but they were still a lot further out than she'd thought the hybrid lived. A hunter, maybe? But then she saw the pair...an elarian hybrid and a...shifter?

"You're my savior! A goddess, even--"

You're coming on way too strong, the Siel in his head hissed at him, and Morain felt himself go pink, threading his fingers guiltily through the silky hair of his ponytail. "... Maybe a nibble of something would be nice. My sister says I'm useless at this stuff..." Ygraine, who last he'd seen had been huge and pregnant, had been something of a hunter once upon a time - especially now that she had her tiny man wife and children to take care of.

Even his baba had said that it was a useful skill to have, and it wasn't like Morain hadn't helped dress meat to cook before - he'd just whined about it the whole time, nose wrinkled at the feel of bloody flesh under his fingers.

He opened his mouth to try to point out that he wasn't TOTALLY useless - when he heard the crunch of footsteps behind them, and stiffened up, skittering a bit closer to the larger Aishan. "Friends of yours?" He asked, voice tremulous but hopeful.

"I'd be delighted, sweetheart!~" Rawiri just about purred back, smiling sweetly at her friend. It wasn't every day, after all, that she got to make friends with someone - the best she could get in some cases was 'tolerated', but Vaani had been open armed in her acceptance of her strange, large friend. It was only right to reward her with as much company as she could spare, yes?? Yes.

"I'll have to see what a home with so many daughters is like."

It was just around the time Vaani noticed that Rawiri, also, heard them - voices, soft in one case, and louder and more... theatric in the other. She blinked, antennae twitching into awareness as they moved closer - close enough to see them.

And, surprisingly, it was her sister that she spotted first. "Kura?" She called, tilting her head curiously. It wasn't every day that her SISTER was with other people...

What a strange person to be found with, too.

Vaani 3

Sweetheart? Vaani waved a hand toward her friend and felt her cheeks warm. "Stop it! If you keep messing with me I'll be as bright as a berry when I see your parents." And what would they think of her thing? Some pudgy, short little yaeli from a backwoods village with a complexion warm enough to rival a sunrise.

Ah yes, what an impression she would make~

Looking between Rawiri, then the other girls, then back to Rawiri only to make another sharp look at the third...girl? That was a girl, right? Her shoulders are so broad... But she did have dark eyes so maybe she was an Aishan hybrid, too? Must be all the training.

"Are you Kahukura? Uhm, hi there, I'm Vaani. I'm Rawiri's friend."

Kahukura 3

Shut up shut up shutupshutupshutup-

Goddess, if she could just crawl in a hole and leave him she would! One moment she was absolutely enthralled by the ecstatic glint in his dark eyes and the next she wanted to run away because he was so loud and embarrassing and-

If I survive this I'm not talking to anyone for three moon cycles AT LEAST.

"There's a stream close by with a few fish traps. I'm sure a few slipped in." It wouldn't be much, but at least it would be more than the snacks she'd left at home. Kura had been in too much of a rush getting out the door to even think of provisions.

When she heard footsteps Kahukura's first instinct was to hide behind him, but then she saw him move behind her and felt an instant flare of panic. What was he expecting her to do?! Just because she was bigger didn't mean she knew how to fight!

Oh, but this was worse than any enemy...this was her sister.

And goddess, wasn't she a mess. Her hair still tousled from sleep, shirt askew, bag missing...

"...Hello." She didn't really care that Rawiri had a friend or that they were in the woods. She just wanted them to leave. Turning away from the yaeli, she looked to her twin. "Why are you here?"

Fish? Ooo... Morain was already nodding along, relieved that she was willing to feed him at all - when the others showed up. Now, scooted halfway behind Kahukura, Morain could almost hear his dads dressing him down for how stupid he was to get lost here in the first place, in Aishan territory--

But... then he realized there was an earthling there, a Yaeli girl, and not only that but... the two Aishans knew each other.

And, thanks to the Yaeli, introductions were thrown all around - Rawiri, Vaani, and a reminder of his savior's name (had she given it to him last night? He didn't think so.)

"Hi! I'm Morain - I got lost, and Kahukura here was just offering to help me back to civilization." Morain introduced, brightly, his previous fear forgotten now that he realized they were all friends.

"Was she now." Rawiri said slowly, peering at the small person with a searching look. They looked like a girl, with a pretty enough face, soft looking hair, and a dress of all things - but the voice was unmistakably male, and after a night in the forest there was a subtle bit of silver fuzz on his chin that was the pathetic beginnings of a beard. What a strange hybrid. Turning back to Kahukura, Rawiri lifted her chin, not surprised but still somewhat defensive at how easily she blew Vaani off.

"What, I can't bump into my sweet sister now and again?" She cooed back, reaching out to brush her sister's sleep ruffled hair out of her face with a click of her tongue. "I was bringing my dear, sweet friend Vaani to meet you all. You're coming back after helping your little boyfriend back to town, aren't you?"

This was...incredibly awkward. Vaani kept her smile up, albeit with an uncomfortable quirk, as she simply watched the exchanges around her. As it turned out the girl she'd thought had been a shifter hybrid was apparently a boy in a dress and Kahukura was less than pleased to see either one of them. She tried not to buckle under that, especially given the looks being tossed between the sisters and instead tried to focus on the positives.

"Hello Morain," Her voice may have been a little quieter than before, but it was no less sincere. "Um...if I may, wouldn't this be a good time to introduce your boyfriend to your sister if this the first time you're meeting? He seems like a really nice fellow and Rawiri says such lovely things about you that I'm sure theres no reason to hide."
