The day had barely begun and little Ari was on his way out the door. He'd been far too anxious to sleep more than a few hours that night with his little secret tucked away outside. To make sure no one caught on - so far as he knew, anyway- Arkadios did his best to keep up a casual air the night before, but the child wasn't a great actor. He'd been fidgety and his eyes kept drifting toward the door.
With the sun still slow to rise, Arkadios softly closed the door behind him and crept along toward a little crate he'd stashed close to the house. Looking this way and that, the child made sure he wasn't being watched before slowly raising it and revealing his prize.
Three perzi kittens mewed, spurned on by his presence no matter how much he tried to shush them.

The best thing about having so many young ones around was that they really were not good at being stealthy yet. He heard a suspicious sound....then many suspicious sounds. Oh this sounded good. "And behind door number one..." He whispered to himself. He quietly opened and closed the door and followed the cries he could hear. Sounded like small critter size, not youngling size. He wondered what they were...he loved animals. He crept around the side of the house. "My gods they are so cute." He said behind the poor kid who he was probably going to terrify, but he couldn't help it it was so fun to sneak.

Ari jumped up with a squeal. The kittens themselves reacted to him by arching their backs and hopping to the side with a little hiss. One scurried back to the crate he'd stowed them in while the other too seemed too stunned to do anything. The stout little boy whipped his head around, bright green eyes as wide as the moon as he looked up at his 'big brother'. "You aren't gonna tell anyone, are you?" Now that he was starting to calm so too were the kittens. They were still a little cautious, but at the very least they weren't as spicy.

It was quite the comedic skit to watch, he should know because he couldn't count how many times he and his twin had been caught in similar situations. "Well, I might tell Lynx but he wouldn't tell anyone else, we would just want to help you look after them because they are so cute and to tell the truth we probably would have done the same thing in the same position." He shrugged, they were not angels but they sure had fun. "Where did you get them from?" He was curious more than anything.

At first Ari wasn't quite sure how he liked that. Involving Lynx would just mean that there was a bigger chance of getting caught, but then again, his older cousins got by with a lot so maybe they really could help? It wasn't like he had a choice, really. If he said no Iexa would just go tell on him. "I found them in the market. I saw them when Grandma Phae came to visit and we left them so the mama could come back. When I went back she wasn't there, though, so I brought them home." He hadn't given them much more than bits of food, water and a warm place to sleep, but the intricacies of caring for animals was lost on the child. All he knew was that they needed someone and he'd been there.

Iexa 3 His heart squeezed at the young boys words. "You did a very good thing I think. I'm sure when you are ready to tell the family that they will say yes because they will have seen all the hard work you have put in. If you don't want to tell Lynx yet then we won't." He knew exactly how the kid felt. It was always just easier not to hide things from his twin. But he also wanted this boy to know that he could be a friend too not just a cousin, perhaps even one day he would see Iexa as a brother? Well he could hope. It was sure fun having him and his sister around though! And it gave Zasha more people than just the twins to stalk er he meant play with. Well she stalked the twins and played with the rest of them it seemed. Sisters....gah.

"It's just that...well, if we tell Lynx then we'll have to tell Sio and then Zohra and Zasha and it just doesn't stop." Ari pouted, reaching his chubby little fingers out to pick up a kitten. The fat little thing rolled around in his arms, nipping and batting at it's own paws. Plus, whose to say Lynx could even keep a secret? He knew that his cousin saw his mother from time to time, even if she was trying to keep her distance from the family and if he told her anything then she might tell Aunt Thea and boom - it would all be over. Thinking on it for a moment, Ari sighed and shifted the kitten before holding his hand up. The only visible finger was his pinky, which he held as close to his cousin as possible. "If you promise it stays with Lynx then we can tell him, but you gotta be quiet."

"A very good point..and no I can't guarantee that Lynx wouldn't tell, especially the younger siblings. Its hard because there is nothing quite so cute as baby perzi. I wonder what the chances are of Mom letting you keep them, but I also don't want to risk a no. After all they needed you and you responded as you should. Okay, I'll help you look after them and I will do my best not to tell anyone but we have to find a place where no one will hear the meows." He patted the boy gently on the shoulder. "You did good."

, He hadn't even considered keeping one, but now that it had been said he couldn't stop thinking about it. How would he even choose which one? He'd have to let Siofra pick, - Zohra and Zasha too - but only if Aunt Thea said it was okay. "Do you really think she would let us keep one?" Maybe if he could show her just how good they were at taking care of the kittens she would. When Iexa reached down to pat him on the shoulder Arkadios felt pride bloom in his chest. "Thanks; I really tried."Now they just had to find a place for them. "Where do you think we can go where no one will hear them?"

"I think if we time it right and hold them up while making our own eyes as big as possible that we have a good chance. Lynx is already a Beast Charmer and I'm working my way toward that as well. So I'm not sure how much choice she will have at some point unless she kicks me and Lynx out, so why not start the animal collection now. Besides we must remind her that relative to other critters perzi are quite clean and graceful and stealthy just like her..use these words if you can." He would help Arkadios if he could. He wanted the boy to succeed and he was saddled with their crazy family so Iexa felt like he owed the little one something. His parents had told him and Lynx what was going on and he would protect the kids with everything he had. Besides he got two new siblings out of the deal." "Hmm, I don't think Variel is using her house right now, I don't think she would mind if we borrowed it as a kitten shelter."

Arkadios' eyes widened. If he used all of that....then he could get Aunt Thea to let him keep one?! Nodding his head fervently, the young hybrid tried his best to remember it all. Honestly, now that Iexa was saying all that stuff, it didn't really make sense not to keep them, but they still had to play it smart. He'd tried an argument like that before with candy and had still been shot down. "...Whose Variel?" That was a name he didn't recognize. Was it one of Iexa's friends or-? "That sounds like a girls name." His narrowed his eyes. Yep, definitely sounded like a girl's name.

Iexa 6 "Oh, I guess you wouldn't have met Variel yet, would you? Well uh, she was like a sister to me and Lynx growing up here. Her Father and her would vacation here in Matori and we kind of adopted her almost? She was our same age though. She is moving back out this way, bought a little house and everything. In her latest letter she let us know that she indeed has become a lancer on her way to rider. She is very um determined I guess is a good word." He reached over to pat a kitten. "Thus I know that her house is empty and really she wouldn't mind the little room mates when she does come. She was always very patient and sweet with our critters."

"Oh, well, when she's back in town you should bring her by. You guys can catch up and she can meet us." As nerve wracking as it was to think about someone new meeting them, surely it was okay if Iexa and Lynx could vouch for her? Arkadios had been taught to be wary of outsiders, but...well, he just wanted to make sure that Siofra still had friends and maybe Variel could be one of them. Looking down at the kittens again, Ari pursed his lips and thought on it. Keeping them at Variel's house really did make the most sense... "If you really don't think she'd mind then I think that sounds good. We could always go see them then and take care of them when she's working." He wasn't exactly sure what a lancer did but if she was determined like he said then she was sure to be busy.

Iexa 7 "She won't mind, she likes animals." They would have to make at least a trip a day but it would be fun to nurture the babies. "Ark, I am so very proud of you." He gave his new "brother" a big hug. "I know that we are not technically siblings but know that in every way, I see you as such. You and Siofra have a place with us. So don't be afraid to find me when you need help for stuff like this. Lynx and I are specializing in animals so this kind of thing is par for the course and hopefully when they are a little more well behaved Mom will let us keep them here...I hope."

Ari hadn't been expecting the hug, but he didn't fight it. His eyes widened out of surprise before he wrapped his arms around his cousin - as much as he could, anyway. "You've always been more like a big brother to me than a cousin, Iexa. I love you; I love all of you." It may have been different living with his Aunt, Uncle and cousins than most oban families, but Ari hadn't known any different. He knew his parents loved him, that they hadn't been 'abandoned', and that was enough for him. He was never lonely and there was always something going on. Cousins to learn from, to play with, and adults to care for him...what more could he need? "Can you teach me how to take care of them? That way if you aren't here I can help?"
