It had only been a week or so since Cymophane had started his newest mission, and already they’d discovered vital information that could lead them to their goal. Ganymede’s mother was a Squire of Venus.

There was only so much in the database that he had access to. There was no telling of this Squire had been encountered by many before, or if she kept to herself. It would have been wise to keep it secret that she was related to Ganymede, but thanks to their mishap, the Negaverse would only gain from the information.

Jet was in his shared office. Alone that night. Lovely was home, resting and still in a lot of pain from being attacked. He would just have to add Sessrumnir to his list of people to make suffer more so than he’d already planned.

The office itself was relatively warm and cozy, thanks to Aquamarine. They had a bed behind a partition so they could nap when they didn’t want to go all the way home. The furniture had been replaced with things that weren’t growing mildew or small crystals. And there were a few paintings on the wall. Mostly landscapes, but something to make the place a little less drab.

Niter had to ask for a ride, and he was still recovering from his nerves by the time he reached Jet's office. It had gotten better, he thought, since he was invited into the Negaverse — he felt less frazzled, less panicked, and he felt less inclined to think that everyone else thought him a complete fool. Maybe they just thought he was standoffish, and that he kept to himself.

Niter avoided rubbing at his scalp while he walked through the halls. He hadn't wanted to impose on their medical resources, or trouble anyone for it, especially when the Knight hadn't done much to hurt him. He'd gotten his sister's help covering up some of the road rash on his face. So far, no one he passed looked twice at him.

Jet's office was too short a walk, and Niter sighed when he saw the familiar office number. He gave himself a minute to stand outside, for he hadn't wanted to talk to anyone about what happened, let alone Jet, who might think he was weak or stupid for not standing up for himself more readily, or for letting it happen or whatever, but he had to — the Knight told him as much.

So he knocked, and waited to see if it was Jet or Aquamarine who answered. If it was the latter, he'd walk out like he did last time.

“Come in,” he called to the Senshi standing outside of his office. In the Dark Kingdom auras were often muddled, in his experience. He could tell when there was another General around, but he couldn’t often tell where unless they were in the next room over. Standing at the door was close enough for him to recognize the Senshi’s aura at least, and he wondered if it was maybe Lazurite or--

“Niter?” he asked in surprise when the young man entered. He immediately stood from his desk in concern, because he could tell that the Senshi of Interstice was more frazzled than usual.

And he probably wouldn’t be at his office because he needed extra assignments.

“Something happened.” It was an observation, of course. Brows furrowed and he made his way around the desk. His tablet was closed and pen stored in his jacket pocket. Anything that he’d been working on could wait for fifteen minutes.

"Yyyyeeeeaaaahhhhh…" He sighed out. The Basic was still rubbing the back of his head, around the various braids, when he came to a stop in front of Jet's desk.

He didn't want this to be a conversation. He didn't even want it to be a conversation, but Jet was going to make it a conversation, and ask for details, and be nosy, and do all the normal General stuff that exhausted Niter enough to want to take a three-day nap. But Niter didn't have three days for a nap, so he was planning to spend the rest of the evening raising chocobos on Final Fantasy 7. And, of course, refusing to answer his phone. Or the door. Unless he ordered pizza again.

Niter slumped into a chair, turned into a pool of anxiety liquid, and soaked into the upholstery. Or he wanted to, and instead laid there bonelessly. "A Knight found me. Uh, a Knight-Knight. In purples and stuff. He broke my Switch, and then he said to tell you that he was looking for someone named Lysithea. And then threatened me. So. That's why I'm here."

Jet watched as Niter slumped into the chair in front of his desk, a little surprised that he didn't just send him a message, so it must have been important for him to talk about. The name Lysithea took just a moment to process, if only because she was new. He'd tried talking to her, but she seemed like she was in a bad mood and having some kind of disagreement with Faustite.

Something that Jet absolutely didn't want to get in the middle of.

But knowing that someone was attacking his recruits with the intention of finding Lysithea was… incredibly irritating and made his blood boil, even as he tried to keep his outward expression neutral.

"She's an Eternal Senshi. Was brought in with the others from the battle at the hilltop with the Velencians. She wasn't at the orientation meeting, so you probably haven't seen her."

And her attitude about not being at the orientation meeting that Faustite had worked on setting up, himself was… concerning.

"Saturn Knight-Knight in purples and stuff," he repeated, trying to decide if he'd seen any Saturn Knight recently that… wasn't… in purples and stuff. "Did he say a name? Or… is there anything else you noticed about him? Hair color? Weapon? Or… if you would rather put it into a report, I can read that later. Um… and I don't know what a switch is, but… if you need a new one, I can probably get one for you." Was it part of his uniform? Was it a Senshi thing?

"Are you hurt? Do you need me to take you to the infirmary?"

Niter nodded. Even if she was at the orientation session, he wouldn't have seen her. Niter got out of there as soon as it was open, and he didn't stop to look around or play meet-and-greet.

Nodding, Niter stared at the desk. He wasn't used to describing anything to someone — wasn't sure what information was useful and what wasn't. He'd known the symbol, of course. He'd played enough games that involved astrology in one way or another. He paid attention in English and History classes, and really only picked those up for how they pertained to the games he played.

God of War came to mind, but he said nothing about it.

"He was blonde, and a little taller than me. And… Really aggressive. He knew I'd have a General. But, other than that…" Niter shrugged, and his shoulders slumped. "I don't know. He had me at a weird angle." Niter rubbed his scalp.

"He didn't give a name. He expected me to like, have her on my arm the next time I saw him." He wasn't sure how he was supposed to do that, or how he was supposed to survive an encounter with an angry Knight that he would've rather avoided. It wasn't like he did anything with Lysithea — he barely knew her name, couldn't describe her to anyone, and couldn't name her sphere, either.

"I'm fine. He just pulled my hair." He seemed dour about it, nonetheless.

Jet frowned, clearly unhappy that Niter had been pulled into something like this. Quite literally. Although he continued to do his best to keep his expression free from the irritation. Difficult, since his eyes usually gave his emotion away.

He glanced at Niter's hair, as if that would let him know if he was being honest about his injuries, or lack of injuries, but decided he would trust Niter. He didn't seem to be the type to try and get away with understating his own injuries.

"Take some time off. Don't worry about going out and getting quotas. I'll be gone for a little while soon, so if you need anything then Aquamarine should be around, or even Queen Laurelite," he suggested, because he didn't want to just up and leave him or Lazurite. He was having Cymophane collect information, but Cymophane was able to teleport now to get out of trouble if necessary. He'd also been around longer than Niter, who was still getting used to things.

"And if you see that Knight again, try to call me immediately. Or anyone. I want this guy stopped. Seems like he might have had some kind of abusive relationship with Lysithea before she joined the Negaverse, if he's that unreasonable and insistent that she be brought to him. Especially if he's throwing around threats."

It's fine, though. Niter seldom looked anyone in the eyes, let alone his superior. Jet could've been grinning like a madman and Niter wouldn't notice.

Niter laid his hands in his lap, then stared at his hands. It wasn't that they were interesting, but he wasn't sure where else to look. Glancing around Jet's office felt like an invasion of privacy, even though he was invited in, and had been in there multiple times.

"Okay. He didn't want to pry into Jet's business about being gone a while — if he wanted to tell Niter what he was up to, he figured Jet would've been up front about it — and he definitely didn't want to give Jet cause to revoke that time off. Already he felt excited for it; he could mow through some content on a few new releases while being lazy about his quota.

Niter nodded. "I will. Um. If I see him." He didn't exactly go outside much when he didn't have work or supplies to pick up; Niter wasn't intending to expose himself much to the outdoors. If he ran into the guy as Laike? That'd be a Problem.

"And, sorry." He wasn't able to do much of anything when the Knight had gotten to him.

"Don't be sorry," Jet said easily, crossing his arms over his chest as he watched Niter curiously. It wasn't as though Niter was doing anything wrong. If anything, Jet was frustrated that there was some Knight out there harassing him, and probably others.

"You're doing well, you know," he said after a moment, and then shuffled his feet a bit. "It was never hands on for me when I first stared in the Negaverse, so I guess I've gotten used to that. But if you need anything, or if you, uh, want me to get people together, I mean. There will probably be small talk involved, and we both aren't really into that so…" he rambled a little.

He wasn't exactly worried about Niter. He did his job, he stayed out of trouble… but Jet wondered if that was enough.

"Just… stay safe. You're not replaceable. And I asked you to do this because I thought I saw potential, and I still do. A lot of potential. So, thank you for letting me know."

It wasn't that Niter was praise averse — usually he liked it when his viewers complimented him on something he'd been working hard at — but Jet's words hadn't sat perfectly well with him. It took a moment, but he realized that they almost sounded apologetic. The setting, Jet's office after Niter had slunk in to make a report, wasn't one where praise fit.

Not that he blamed Jet for that, or for his choice to say it now. When did he really have an opportunity to say anything like that? He was always so busy.

And Niter liked living in the shadows, never being noticed. It was nice — comfortable.

"I'll be careful." He was earnest about it; he didn't want to end up pancaked by a Knight because of happenstance. He could be more vigilant, maybe stick around populated areas so people would hear if someone started kicking his a**.

"Um… Do you need me for anything else? Or can I go home and take a nap?"

It was easy to forget how young many agents were, especially when Jet didn’t feel all that old, himself. He was only twenty-two, despite having been in the Negaverse for several years, but Niter was still younger than himself.

Maybe that was why he felt more protective than he would have otherwise. Or maybe he just felt protective because he knew what it was like to have to figure things out on his own. He didn’t have anyone he could really go to for help, but he hoped that Niter felt differently. He wasn’t going to try and smother him with attention, unless he wanted it. But Niter seemed content to do his job and stay out of trouble.

When Saturn Knights weren’t harassing him.

“No, thank you. Go ahead and rest. Let me know if you need anything. Just make sure you get that report in at some point, please.”

Jet would make his own report of course, but he would have to put it off until he had everything else he was working on settled, unfortunately. Hopefully Niter could get more done before he had the chance.
