Kiyelt 1

Kiyelt approached his own house like it was a ticking time bomb, and with the teenage children starting to grow up and move out it wasn't that far from the truth. He felt conflicted, he was proud of them, they drove him mad (except Honi), but he wasn't neccessarily ready to let them go yet. Thus the second batch of children! Best to spoil them while he still had the chance. He doubted they would have more children. But one could never be sure. Maybe the gods would bless him again. He hoped so. But for now, he had Ms. Einsol. Ushi was growing up into a somewhat cranky young man but Einsol was still Einsol, a perfect little girl that packed a whallop when she wanted. He adored her.

He was also sneaking into her window with a rather scaley but beautiful present.

It wasn't insight, or foresight, or any sort of sight that brought a small blue child trotting back in the house. It wasn't hunger, nor especial curiosity, 'cos the one could be sated t one of the fruit trees and the other seldom had cause to rouse about her own home. The people in it were awful interesting, sure, but the stuff not so much. She was familiar with it as anyone could be that'd lived their whole life in one home. And certain noises didn't belong.

As a daughter of beast wrasslers, Einsol had been taught to keep an ear out for the window moving, for sounds where there oughtn't be sounds. Most Matoran critters didn't slip in, and saving snaptrotters, you didn't worry much about anything above the waterline. She and hers were taught caution all the same, and to better guard their own den. So it was that she's snagged a long bit of pointy metal from beside the hearth, just in case it wasn't a critter at all, but a monster. Mama had taught her that the fire poker hurt monsters, an' it could bonk critters pretty good too. She crept towards the door she shared with her twin, iron in two hands...

Kiyelt had managed to get a foot in the window and set his leather and fabric wrapped bundle of joy just inside the window gently on the floor. He knew a certain someone who would appreciate a fellow reptile..ahem he meant friend..yes friend. He smiled at the thought. His daughter spent a lot of time sun bathing, kind of like her mother, kind of like snaptrotters. He giggled a little. Ahem. Yes find his youngest daughter, that was his goal.

"Einsol?" He whispered. He hoped it was Einsol. Ushi was like to tackle him back out the window. Though he saw no one in the room yet. So maybe no one was nearby and he had snuck in for nothing.

She'd been about to crack it open and peek through when a familiar noise came through the door. Her own name, and in Papa's voice! Always sounded better when he said it. Though she opened the door fully, the poker stayed in her fist 'til she could see who it was. Mama said monsters could be sneaky an' tricky, just the voice could be foolin'.

Luckily for everyone involved, it really was her Papa! She leaned the poker up in the corner with care, 'cos she kept bein' told to be careful with it, then Einsol dashed full tilt into her father's waist from the side. Arms reached out and snapped to, trapping Kiyelt in a pincer-hug! And letting her confirm that voice and look were real by smell, of course. Monsters could only fool two at a time, she'd reasoned. "Papa! Whaddya comin' in through the window for? We got a door, Papa!"

"Ehee" He giggled with ill concealed glee. "Well, I have an extra special present for you. Its here in this binding but we must be a pit patient because your patient is alive its a bit of a caution ramen situation. It has gone on a very long journey to make it here to you, I hope you will be pleased."

"I wanted you to see first, see I'm not sure if your mom particularly likes them or not so I figured the window would be safer." Einsol was the best, his little buddy. He hugged her back were she hugged him and picking her up and holding her close to his body he slowly opened the parcel that contained a snek. A beautiful somewhat lethargic jet lagged snek.

"All the way from Yael, bred specially as a gift and raised as such. It's for you Einsol, I'll get your brother a different pet."

She had no idea what a ramen was or why it'd need caution! But Kiyelt had used a tone she normally associated with his work, so that probably meant stillness. Unlike with Kina, for whom it was almost a game, mama and papa were all business when it came to sitting still. You didn't keep all your wiggly fingers around nervous beasts otherwise. Contrary to what her elder sister might believe, Einsol could go still as stone, and did so now, watching with steady eyes. The smile wasn't gone and her hug had only got better, but she remembered to bunch up and keep the fidgets little.

That her papa kept himself between child and serpent didn't go unnoted, nor that it was a sleepy thing. Smooth and somewhere between yellow and green, curiously so. She could see a great many of its bones, and brows furrowed when she noted its clear good health. Bones showing was a bad sign, but he looked fat an' sleek. A friendly face he had, unlike to most anything she'd seen before. After some consideration, she gave hushed voice to her thoughts. "He's awful pretty. Is he still scared of bein' touched, like some of your new friends?"

"I think he could be, which is why you are on the side away from him. I don't know if I would be exactly my best after all that travel, though it looks like he had a good nap. I was told that his overall temperament is good so he will perk up hopefully once he trusts us and is a little more settled in. But lets watch and see what he does. He is quite pretty you are right. They are a specialty breeder and they have some of the best Kedari in the world."

"What he might like is some food, do you think you could find some insects or small game that is not too big to temp him with?"

Einsol was quick thinking and he was sure to teach all of his children to read the body language of the variety of animals that he worked with so that there was less chance of accident between child and beasts.

"Yup! Mama sent me an' Ushi to steal some eggs yesterday. Think we got some left in the cold cellar. Do keldari like eggs?" Kiyelt had brought the idea home, and they'd been happy to dig it out. Happier to have it, as it turned out, as it opened up certain options the smokehouse didn't. One of the youngest's chores was to check it over, make sure nothing got in to nibble at the food. True, they might steal a bite themselves, but they'd been encouraged to be honest about that, so as to keep an accurate count.

If the balled up critter didn't like eggs, she knew where a few lizards liked to sunbathe, and she'd got good at sneaking up on 'em. Lizards weren't too bright, so they kept comin' back eventually. Apart from her discussion, she didn't move. Wiggling free was easy, but it might scare their new friend. The bright noodle was beginning to poke around, turning his head this way and that to better see everything. At least one eye always faced them, Einsol noticed, so he definitely knew where the pair was.

"I reckon he would appreciate some of those eggs love. From what I remember they love eggs." It had been a while since he had worked with one, they were a bit rare where he was still being native to yael. Thus the long distance this one had to endure to be here.

"He looks pretty content to me, curiosity is good."

It was nice and warm in her room which was helping the reptile to perks up a bit. "He is so cute."

"Okay."Once she was lowered to the floor, Einsol restrained herself from dashing off. Her feet padded soft, carrying her slow and easy out of her room. ...Until she closed the door, anyway. Then it was business as usual and off like a shot, out and around to the door beside their house. They'd had Honi bake bricks to line it, so it didn't immediately wash away at a rain.

Soon enough she climbed baked-clay stairs out of the cool cellar, a basket in both hands. Papa hadn't said how many, so it seemed right to just bring the basket. She slowed again at her own door, and slipped in. Making sure not to move with any hurry, she set her load down on the bed, and handed Kiyelt an egg. "Would you feed 'im first, Papa? Just so I know how it's done."

Kiyelt wasn't exactly sure but he had at least an idea, he warmed the egg up remembering that they usually liked to eat warm things but eggs among reptiles were high in demand because they were very nutritious. Time to see if Keldari were similar.

He rolled the egg at the serpent and watched expectantly as the egg rolled up on a diagnal past the head and strike!

"Well it looks like they do like eggs," he said as the Keldari coiled around the egg and began to line it up to eat, yawning so that its jaw unhinged to deal with the diameter of the egg.

"They are even cooler then I remember Einsol!" he was excited and happy to enjoy these precious moments with his youngest daughter. They didn't always get that much time but he always tried for his kids to be available. After all they were his family and there was nothing more important.

The snake began working its snoot over the egg. "I wish I could eat your Mama's cooking like that someday, especially when your brothers are around."

"Here warm a second one in your hands like I did," he nodded at her to take a second egg.

"Two eggs should do him a while, he might sleep a bit to rest. So don't worry if he is a bit pokey. I also got you a terrarium habitat for him to hang out on while you two bond. It even has a pool, I think he will like it."

The small girl's attention fixed unwavering as her Papa did what he did best: making friends! If she wanted to be friends with this shiny critter (and she did, he looked uniquely snuggly), she had to see how to go about it. Watched the feeding process, the odd working of his jaws and separate sets of teeth. She'd long since given up on swallowing morsels as big as her head, and yet here was this potential new friend doing just fine at it! Little fingers didn't pinch at his trews, but the attached hands wound around the waist while an earthling observed in patient stillness.

"That'd just make a mess, papa. Where'd we get an egg as big fer us as these are fer him?"That they existed went unquestioned, as did the assumption that he'd know where to get one. Of course, the trial involved in the cooking of something that large didn't enter into her mind. What did for now was the instruction, and she put it to use. A cool egg came up from the basket, warming to her hands as she rolled it back and forth.

Once the snek had swallowed the first bit of his meal down, she set the second on his windowsill and oh-so-slowly set it to roll snakeward. No chimes from the chunky end of his tail, no warnings yet, though it stuck straight up. The smile bloomed across a little blue face as Einsol saw her offering accepted. Herded into his coils, the keldari got to work. "Good. Eggs're easier to get than lizards an' fish sometimes. They ain't as much fun, but I'd wanna keep him happy if he's gonna be my friend.

"I can dream Einsol, you will find that a males basic purpose in life is to fill his stomach." He grinned. "Remember your brothers on feast days where they are both so full they can't even get up off the floor."

He was so delighted to share this moment with her. Einsol had a unique sense of humor and Kiyelt thoroughly enjoyed her company. Her twin however had his nose out of joint trying to outcompete his older brother who didn't really give a hoot that his little bro was so feisty. Ushiwa would be one to watch he thought.

He watched his daughter try her skills at feediing the Keldari, she did it perfectly. She was good at watching and pausing before she lept...at least if there was a cool creature involved. He too watched the Keldari tail that sat up right but still. Indicating the snek was alert but not entirely grumpy yet. Then it accepted the egg and he said, "Great job Einsol he liked it!"

"I agree." He had done his fair share of fish catching and lizard hunting and they were fun but sometimes a bit time consuming. Eggs didn't run away...usually.

"You will have to think of a name for him Einsol."

Since her hands were occupied, Einsol contented herself by bumping her father's leg, like she'd seen some of his fuzzier friends do. Hugs worked better, but this got the idea across. Her Papa's reasoning tracked, but for a little detail that caught. "But Kina seems like she's grumpy a lot. Ain't she hungry all the time, too?"

She had to hold in a delighted squeal and content herself with another giggle. High noises were almost as bad as sudden moves for unfamiliar critters. They generally got scared pretty easy. Despite a lack of teeth in her grin, the smile might have been a sunlamp for all the warmth it shone. A name, huh? "Hummm," she hummed. Ushi was better at names than his sister. She thought quicker, but he thought trickier. "...Ray. If y'look, he looks like one of those bits of light when it's cloudy but ain't rainin'."

Kiyelt sighed, "Your sister is a whole different kettle of fish, she just needs to go and live her life for a couple of years, she may not be so prickly, oddly enough I went through a similar transition and my family sent me off to go experience the world so maybe she gets some of her drive from me."

He seemed to be the only one in the family that still got along with Kina well.

He paused and stared at the snake, indeed she was absolutely right.

"That is beautiful Einsol." He smiled brightly back at her but he felt like her smile with its cute gaps that would soon fill in was more powerful.

Einsol apparently had inherited the side of him that noticed details. He hadn't developed that until he hadn't been a prentice anymore. She would be a wise woman eventually he was sure.

He hugged her close and downright snuggled her. She wouldn't be his little one for long and he was going to take advantage of the time they had left.

"I am so proud of you, he seems to be calming down already."
