Zohra held a long stick in his hand as he crept closer to the tail of a snaptrotter. The young boy had plans to poke the beast and see what the reaction was. The creature was laying in the sun enjoying it's day and he was going to come along and ruin it. Or try to.
The boy was bored. No one could blame him. His sister was with their mom and his little cousins were taking a nap. His older brothers were somewhere else doing who knows what and it irritated him that he couldn't go along. So he had to find something to do until his dad got home.

Rydan had finished an emergency order at the forge and rushed home. The twins had taught him and Thea that kids really shouldn't be unsupervised for any amount of time really. Zohra and Zasha were not any kind of exception. Earlier that week a friendly hybrd neighbor had rescued his pesky spitfire of a daughter from a grove of trees way too far from home in his opinion.
He was just happening upon the yard of their home when he noticed a large seemingly happy snaptrotter sunning its lovely scaley bulk in his yard.
He looked at the beast, it was not uncommon for them to end up in the yard, they usually left well enough alone so long as you left them alone. The twins usually handled the household lizard shooing duties as the two were devilishly good at it plus he rather thought they enjoyed it. It was starting to make him wonder if Iexa would follow Lynx to the beast charmer career, but he didn't think Iexa even knew yet. Head in the clouds most of the time that boy.
His eyes glided down the body of the beast, drifted back, wait...OH NO!
"Zohra! Don't you dare!" he was yelling and already sprinting to his son.
Thea would kill him!

He heard the yell and recognized it as his dad's voice. Zohra paused in what he was doing so that he could look in his father's direction. Stick just inches away from the tail of the beast. "What?" Like he hadn't heard him say anything just then. Putting on an innocent smile he stared at his dad as he ran closer and then... poked... the snaptrotter. Hard. Sharp end of the stick went right up under a scale to touch sensitive skin. Of course that bothered the beast and it instantly lifted it's head to look back at the threat that decided today was the day and they were the one. Zohra looked at the beast then with some amazement at how large it was.

He had so been hoping to get there in time but it seemed like he was going to watch his sweet child be eaten by a reptile in his own freaking yard.
"ZOHRA!!" He screeched and flew at the best making a ton of noise as the great head turned and he pretty much felt his heart stop.
No this couldn't happen, not to his son, no he would not let it he would turn that creature into a belt!
He flew practically and landed on top of the snout before it could twist and close on his baby.
He scrambled to clamp his hands and straddle the beast. The muscles used to open the jaw were much weaker than those used to close it. A rumbling his sounded beneath him and he swallowed. He clung to the beast and scanned his poor son for injury, "Are you hurt did he get you?"

His eyes widened to at least twice their normal size when he saw his dad leap at the beast. He was left speechless for a minute as he saw his dad wrap his arms around the creature's snout and keep it from opening its jaws. When he finally registered that his dad had asked him a question the little boy looked up from the mouth of the snaptrotter to his dad's face. With a shake of his head he answered. "N-No. I'm okay." Well now he knew what happened when one poked a snaptrotter with a stick. He probably wasn't going to do that again.

Rydan still wrapped around the angry snaptrotter's face, sighed at the look on his sons face. He was scared and Rydan wanted to sooth him.
"Sorry old boy," he apologized to the snaptrotter who's day he had ruined. "How about I give you a hunk of poultry as a compromise for messing up your nap and you can go digest on a quieter less noisy beach hmm?"
Getting off was going to be a trick, where were the twins when he needed them as a distraction, they were too quick for the snaptrotter. He was heavier, agile but heavier and a bigger target. Though his size was certianly coming in handy at the moment. Have kids they said, it would be fun they said.
"Don't have children, ol mate, youll never have a sound sleep again."

He heard his dad talking to the creature and only tilted his head a little. What did he mean he wouldn't have sound sleep again? Zohra could remember his dad snoring the other night just fine. Wasn't that sound enough sleep? Did his snores get louder? How did his mom sleep next to him? Zohra moved away from the snaptrotter, knowing that his dad wouldn't want him right there when he let go. So he moved over to the side, near a tree, and waited for Rydan to do whatever it was he was going to do. If he got hurt then Zohra would have to run and find his mom or a healer, whichever was first.

And this was his shy child, what monstrous horrors did his other kids have in store for him?
"Thank you Zohra, just stay there, pray I don't become trotterchow."
He joked but he would have to be fast, good thing he was pretty strong. He leapt back off the creatures head and scrambled to get one of his feet over before the beast could unbalance him. He really should have tried a blindfold because it thrashed and he landed on his buttocks.
"Ouch!" his tailbone! His eyes watered. But he scrambled back so quickly that he managed not to become mincemeat...by a hair.

Zohra watched his dad then broke out into a fit of giggles. Seeing him land on his butt was funny. The little boy grabbed at his middle with both arms as he bent over from laughing so much. "That was funny!" He giggled. "I'm gonna tell Zasha!" His older sister would certainly get a kick out of it. Even Iexa and Lynx might laugh.

Rydan sighed and scooped up his giggling son for proper tickles, "Oh yeah? I'll give you something to laugh about young sir! Muahahahah!" He was so relieved that his spicey child was unharmed. He felt a little old, but he suspected that was because his son was very young and seemed to have the same terrible sense of humor held by the rest of the family.
"No more snaptrotters for you. Maybe when you are Iexa's size, yes, then you can beg me for one and I will get you an egg to babysit, but leave the big ones in our yard alone. I don't relish telling your mother that you became lizard chow."

At being tickled the boy squirmed and squealed. He hadn't thought that one through! "N-Nooooo!" He did his best to swat away the tickling fingers but while being held it was a bit more troublesome. "But they look fun!" He protested. Of course he had kinda learned his lesson. Having the snaptrotter try to eat him wasn't the end goal of his little stunt. "Don't wanna egg sit." He shook his head. Zohra wasn't really wanting to have a bunch of beasts with him all the time. "Scared of mama." He pointed at his dad with a large grin.

"I love your Mama, but when she is angry, and you can bet if the positions were reversed she would be afraid to see my reaction if anything ever happened to you or any of your siblings. What business would you have anyway in the belly of the beast its very dark and stinky in there trust me you wouldna like it."
He booped his son gently on the belly. Zohra was a handful and so was Zasha. He was still feeling out Ari and Sio. Dovi wasn't much like his wife but that tended to happen among siblings. How all of his kids had come out with three times the normal amount of energy was sort of beyond him.
"No eggs then."
"Snaptrotter are very fun, but they are best handled when you are tall and have proper training. They are quite dangerous before then and I don't want to loose you."
"Now are you hungry?"

Zo giggled again. Knowing that his big, strong dad was scared of his small mama was amusing. It made him grin. His nose wrinkled a little at being told he'd have to have proper training to handle the snaptrotters. "Food!" He perked up a bit at that. "What're we eating?"

As if twin hellions wasn't enough, his youngest two children had their own forms of drama. He loved them all dearly and over the years he learned to sleep with one eye open. Zohra seemed to him a bright and beautiful child, sometimes too smart for his own good.
"Hmm let's see." He bustled about the kitchen and looked for ingredients.
"Roasted fowl and scalloped potatoes? Stew? Fish and chips?"
He reeled off some options for his son to choose from.

Zohra watched his dad for a bit as the options were tossed out at him. What was he in the mood for? Hm. "Fish and chips sounds good." There was a nod that followed his answer. "Do I have to help?" He tilted his head a bit at the question. He was hoping he could just be lazy and watch.
