While Idania had encountered plenty of sorrows in her life already the young woman also knew to be thankful for what she did have. Her Aunt could have left her out in the streets or refused to allow her what freedoms she could enjoy despite her disability and it was not as if her home was cold. She had the comforts of her room, the plush pillows and the life that the gods had allowed her. Before she would have accepted the minimal things that she received from her Aunt without question, especially since her father’s passing had left her with no one else to rely on, but now that Toivo was here the girl was beginning to experience more affection again. Toivo had taken the place of her father somehow over the past year he had spent with them and even gifted her Aasim, her faithful companion. While the sermal was still basically a kitten the difference in her life the creature had made was drastic, especially now that Idania could rely on him to guide her around the outside of the inn. The familiar never ventured far from her side, something surprising for a beast typically more independent and wild than others, and Idania found herself trusting him wholeheartedly.
Now that it was time to give thanks, Idania found herself pondering how she could thank Toivo for all of his help. She could not quite cook or clean like others and there was no craft that she could easily give him save for the creations she made by twisting yarn together. Even those she was not certain of since she could only feel how soft they were, not see the colors or the finished product as others could. The blanket was long though and reached all the way to her feet and as she felt the edges she knew that everything had been knotted perfectly in place. “What do you think, Aasim?” She asked quietly as she listened, her head tilting to the side for the rustling of the giant cat that often slept on her bed. He had admittedly caused some issues while she had started making the blanket, the ball of yarn too tempting for the playful familiar, but eventually Idania had compromised by giving him a ball of scrap materials that he bounced throughout her room and the upstairs hallway while she worked. Now all she could hear was the faint purrs of the great feline as he kneaded the quilt on her bed, threading more of the older blanket that she would hopefully replace soon enough with another blanket before winter came. Not that she needed a blanket much anymore with the giant familiar always nestled up by her side, a large paw often tossed over her legs in the middle of the night as the cat curled up next to her. He was almost as warm as the fireplace whenever it was burning throughout the colder nights in Tale.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” Teased Idania with a chuckle as she carefully bundled the blanket up and walked forward, her bare feet feeling the familiar rough wooden floors until she bumped into the wooden chest that she stored more precious materials in. Idania would keep it there until tomorrow’s feast where everyone would give their thanks to the gods and share gifts and drinks with each other. She had already purchased a necklace for her aunt, Toivo had helped her by describing each piece from the merchant in detail, and now that she had completed the blanket the girl was prepared. “You’ll get a lot of treats too, Aasim.” She promised as she felt her way back to the bed and laid down next to the sermal. Her hand reached forward so that she could ruffle his sleek fur, her fingers only pausing whenever they encountered some of the crystals protruding from his back. Idania didn’t mind them as much since she used them to help guide her, there were specific ones on his shoulder that she instantly recognized the feeling of as they were somewhat smoother than the smaller ones jutting along his back and offered her a place to hold onto as they walked along. Honestly Aasim was the best present she could have ever received and she would be forever thankful to Toivo for this gift. She knew a simple blanket of wool and yarn would never be enough to pay back Toivo but at least it would be a step forward in showing her appreciation for all of his help that she had received this year.
