Picking Out The Perfect Gift

It's that time of the year again! Time to give presents to loved ones in the typical ceremonies of the people of Tendaji. But the question is - what is the perfect gift?
[ We're looking for two things in this world event. 1) Who is your character getting a gift for and why? 2) What exactly would be the perfect gift? You can spend the whole prompt reflecting on these decisions, asking a friend for advice on the gift to give, or going out and purchasing the gift. ]

Dovian wanted to get a gift for Adenah. He wasn't sure what would be perfect though. There were some ideas he had but nothing that screamed 'yes!' So he figured he could ask her what she wanted, if there was anything.
Of course that meant he needed to find her. And with her being a sneaky thing he had to keep an eye out as he walked through the marketplace. The blacksmith looked around and over the heads of others as he looked for Ade. There was no way he'd be able to overlook her though since she was the most attractive person in the world to him.
As he thought about her he wondered if she would be interested in something like a hairpin like other girls. Or would she like a dagger specially made? The dagger honestly seemed more her thing. Perhaps there was a way he could make a dagger small enough to be used as a hairpin.

Going back to work after having her 'secret' babies had been a lot harder than Adenah was ready to admit. Keeping up the schedule she'd built for herself prepregnancy meant a lot of cat naps and aching joints. Making the decision to let Dovian's sister care for them had been the hardest part of it all, though, but Adenah wasn't going to let it tear her down. Her children would know they were loved, and she would have them at her side as soon as she could. In the meantime she wanted to show Dovian just how much he meant to her. Who else would have stuck by her side this long? The hybrid walked along with a special little package tucked away in a basket that hung on her arm, perfectly hidden by the little bit of cloth over it. She'd assumed she wouldn't see him until she got to the smithy, but coming across Dovian in public was a welcomed surprise. "My my, leaving work of your own volition? Don't tell me you're sick."

When he heard her voice he turned to look at her and grinned. "Hm, maybe just a little." Dovian seemed to be considering her words. "Can being lovesick make one need time off work?" He teased at Adenah before he closed the small distance between them so that he could pull her into a hug. "Are you busy?" He wondered out loud to her. If she wasn't then he had full intentions to take up her time. If she allowed it anyways. Getting Ade to do something she didn't want to do was more taxing than making scale armor.

"Hmm, I dunno." She tapped her lower lip as she thought, but a little smirk tugged at her lips regardless. "Seems contagious. You should definitely stay awa-" Even before she could get the words out of her mouth he was pulling her close and Adenah couldn't help laughing. "Oh no! Now I'm infected. Ah well, guess I'm stuck with you."She snaked her free arm around his waist, careful of the basket she held with the other and shook her head. "Actually, I was coming to see you so this worked out. Why do you ask?"

"Oh darn." His tone didn't match his words. While his words were meant to be remorseful his tone suggested he was somewhat pleased with 'infecting' Ade. "Huh, guess you are stuck with me." Dovian practically purred his words out as he hugged her close and nuzzled against her neck. When the woman returned his hug, albeit with one arm, he smiled and moved his head slightly so that he could press a kiss to her shoulder before pulling back so that he could look at her. "I would like to spend time with you. Maybe trick you into telling me what type of gift you'd like." When it came to Adenah he could never be sneaky. Dovi was always honest with her. "You deserve everything you want and I'd like to get you something."

"Trick me? My dear Dovian, all you had to do was ask; I've never been so humble that I've ever turned away anything you've given me." He could have handed her a dried disc made of mud with his handprint baked into it and she still would have enjoyed it. She certainly would have questioned it, but Adenah would have kept the gift never the less. "Before all of that, though..." She handed the basket over to him with a smile. "I've got a gift for you." Hidden beneath the cloth covering were a pair of specially crafted gloves that had been infused with a special magic to ward off burns. They were all the rage in Sulburi at the moment and she'd been lucky enough to get a pair with extra padding around the palms so he wouldn't develop more callouses.

He chuckled at her answer. Ade would likely have liked a rock if he'd given it to her. Not that he would. "Hm, then what would you like for me to get you?" Dovian was somewhat curious as to what she preferred at the moment. When she handed him the basket he lifted a brow at her. "I don't recall asking for anything." Still, he took it and quickly investigated. What he found made him grin to himself as he inspected the gloves. "Are you trying to tell me I'm clumsy?" Dovi knew that wasn't the case but he had to tease her. In all he liked the gift and instantly put one on so that he could see how well they fit. It also gave him an idea of how he'd be able to work in them. "Mm. Nice fit. I like them. Thank you." Once he had the one on he leaned over and planted a kiss right on Ade's lips. A simple peck to show his appreciation.

"You don't ask for gifts." It was as much a statement to his questions as it was his commentary. If he'd had a mind for gloves then wouldn't he have gotten them himself? Or it was possible he wouldn't have thought of them at all! That was the beauty of a gift. "Or - well - you shouldn't. Besides, I ask for enough as it is, so let me pamper you, okay?"She lifted his hand and looked over the fit. As happy as she'd been to buy them she was even happier now to see them on. "No, not clumsy, just forgetful. You don't take care of yourself the way you should and these should at least help." They couldn't remind him if he forgot a meal or tell him to sleep when he was exhausted, but at least they would help save his skin from burns.

While he agreed people shouldn't ask for gifts he wasn't opposed to gift ideas. As she looked at the fit of the glove he smirked at her. "So then does that mean I can make you a new hair accessory?" He was slightly hoping she'd assume it was a normal hair trinket. If only because the surprise of the extra weapon would be fun.

"Really? Yeah, I'd say that sounds really nice." As much as Adenah liked to dress up and look pretty there really wasn't much call for it with her line of work. On the rare occasion she did it was usually for Dovian and...well, those looks never stuck around for long. "What kind were you thinking about making? Will it be shiny?" She drug out the last word with an almost bratty tone.

He couldn't help the raised eyebrow at the way she drug the word out. Though he did nod his head at the question. "Yes, it'll be shiny. It'll be made of metal." He was thinking a mix of Damascus this way it had many different shades to it and it would be hard enough to be thrust into someone's chest cavity if need be. "Should it have something dangly on it? Would you like a bell?" He knew better than to put something like that on anything for her. Anything that made noise wasn't good for her profession but he did like teasing her sometimes.

"Ooo~ Well then, I'd very much like a gift." Especially if it was going to be something gorgeous that Dovian was likely going to craft himself. His pieces were lovely on their own, but there was something about having even the smallest of trinkets made with her in mind that meant the world to her. His blades were her favorites, of course, but jewelry she wore with pride. "A bell sounds nice." Adenah grinned. "All the better for military officials to hear me and, oh, how convenient of a trail it would lead for their dogs."

He snapped his fingers and chuckled. "I just knew the bell would be perfect." The sarcasm in his tone couldn't be missed. He leaned closer and placed a kiss to Adenah's cheek. "My only question is.. would you like a flower design? Or a moon?" While he had the general shape in mind he wasn't settled on what the end would look like. He could do flowers, or leaves, or even the moon in the different phases. "If you want a moon then I am going to use Mother of Pearl for the design."

Adenah rolled her eyes, but couldn't help a little laugh when he kissed her cheek. The hybrid gave him a playful shove and stepped away from him with mock annoyance. "Flowers are gorgeous, but a fact you might not know about me is that I follow the same goddess as my mother. So, I think a moon would be nice, especially if you're using Mother of Pearl." Honestly now she was more curious than ever as to what Dovian would come up with. Something metal, shiny, with either flowers or the moon, and pearls? She couldn't wait to see it! Reaching for his hand, she tugged him along after her. "Come on; I was promised shopping and I intend to do just that."
