Picking Out The Perfect Gift
Solo or RP Format Counts as 5 RP growth Points Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7
It's that time of the year again! Time to give presents to loved ones in the typical ceremonies of the people of Tendaji. But the question is - what is the perfect gift?
[ We're looking for two things in this world event. 1) Who is your character getting a gift for and why? 2) What exactly would be the perfect gift? You can spend the whole prompt reflecting on these decisions, asking a friend for advice on the gift to give, or going out and purchasing the gift. ]
---------------
Aerexa was naturally the best at so many things already that when it came to gift giving the young vandrea’s inflated sense of ego didn’t allow for any doubt. Of course she would find the perfect gift; why wouldn’t she? Sauntering down the main walkway between stalls, her golden eyes taking in all that was offered to her, Rex found herself…admittedly at a loss. There were so many amazing things that she wanted, but they all cost way more coin than she had on her. She could ask for a loan or some sort of way to work it off, but that wasn’t very impressive, was it?
“Well, crud,” Rex groused.

"What do you mean it breaks so easily?!" Odina huffed at a shopkeeper before placing the broken pieces of an axe's handle back down. If she had known it would be so delicate then she wouldn't have touched it! The Vandrea pursed her lips before handing over some coin for the broken pieces, her desire to protest dampened by the fact that she didn't want her family to hear about her causing issues. The muscular teen simply rubbed at one of her thorny markings along her arm, her irritation showing as she turned away from the stall to seek something better for a gift. She had wanted to find the perfect thing for her twin, to celebrate their growth and the changing of seasons, but she was at a loss to find it. She had tried crafting things but she was also prone to breaking them....once again not her fault that everything was so delicate and the axe had caught her attention during her browsing.
Now though? Well the axe was something she had been interested in and not really for her sibling anyways. So she supposed she was back to square one, something that had her huffing under her breath as she brushed past another Vandrea. "I wouldn't go to that shop if I were you." She murmured with a frown. "Nothin' good there."

"Oh yeah? Bunch'a crooks or just sold out?" Looking around the other Vandrea, Aerexa could tell they had a fair amount of product so it must be the former. "Thanks for the tip! I'm not much of a shopper so I want to find the right thing the first time."
The shorter teenager puffed herself up with a frown. "Still, that kind of sucks. I was hoping they would be the right place. Got any idea where I can find some decent weapons around here?"

"Buncha cheap things for a ridiculous price." Groused Odina towards the other Vandrea. "I'm glad I could spare you from having to deal with that." The larger girl still bristled at the thought of the broken weapon, her disappointment with earthling wares evident. Her family seemed more open to them but she was still of the mindset that Aishan weaponry, among most things, was far superior to anything earthling.
Odina shook her head at the question, her expression falling at the realization that she truly didn't know. "I just got to the market but I've already tried two shops. Is it that hard to find a good battle axe?" She sighed before reaching up to scratch at her cheek. How was it that out of all of her graceful siblings she was the one most blessed with the ability to break things?

She's certainly spicy. Aerexa wished she'd arrived a few minutes earlier to witness the altercation, but the time had already passed. "I wouldn't know; I've always used what my mother brought from Chibale. True steel like that never falters and she has a stockpile so I've never thought to seek out a forge." All of the maintenance that went into the weapons was always handled by the women themselves and on the rare occasion that a weapon was done for good they simply moved on to the next. Aerexa raised her hands and hit her left knuckle with the right. "You know, there is a smith near the south river. I've never met her, but I hear she makes some really nice blades. Heard a lot though...something about an orange kid or something? Seems like crazy talk to me."

Odina nodded her approval. "That's the smart option, but I wanted to test out and see what the hype was about earthling designs." She made a face and shook her head. "So far nothin' has really stuck out to me." But then again would an axe even be the perfect gift for her twin? Odina pursed her lips before studying her new companion thoughtfully. "A smith by the river? You have time for some weapon shoppin? I'm wanting to get a gift for my twin but it has to be something really strong. I won't have her first true blade from me breaking within a week!"
She was so determined to get the most awesome gift out there and would check out these earthling smithies. It would be the best way to keep her surprise well a surprise since everyone back on Chiume knew her family and Odina didn't know if she could trust things to stay hidden. She wanted to surprise her twin not make her fake surprise!

"I'm game." Aerexa stood a little straighter which...admittedly still didn't put her much higher - certainly not taller than the other aishan - but at least she stood with pride! "Then you're going to want something really nice. Since I'm looking for a gift for my mother how about we check this place out, test their blades on each other and if it works out then we'll be set?"
A worthy gift for her legendary mother and a fight? Aerexa's day would be set! She motioned with a nod of her head and started leading the way. "So I travel a lot and I don't get to know faces very well so I haven't really seen yours. My name's Aerexa; mom's Stryxx, if that helps. You?"

"Yes!" Odina's excitement may have been a bit too obvious but the Vandrea was always eager to test her strength against another sister. Even if it was for the sake of just trying out some earthling blades a fight was still a fight! Her blood boiled with the thought of a fight and her steps immediately picked up as they ventured towards the smithy. Would an axe still be fair? Should she settle on a blade for her twin? If it held true then maybe Odina could commission an axe to pick up later? That could be a good plan actually. She nodded at the thought, a wide grin crossing her lips despite her earlier frustrations.
"Odina." The Vandrea glanced towards her companion with interest. "My family doesn't really live in the middle of things, we prefer being on the edges of Chiume so I haven't really gotten many chances to mingle between that and visiting Chibale. My mothers are Vermina and Dani." It was apparently a sensitive topic to some so Odina opted to use Dani for her mother, but Odina didn't worry about her mothers' reasonings. She was fine as long as she had something interesting to do and other sisters to interact with, regardless of their Alkidike or Vandrea traits. All Aishans were strong fighters and that's what truly mattered to Odina. The Elaria and their strange ones were something that she hadn't truly encountered yet but even then Odina was willing to give them a chance to prove their strength.
"Is that the place?" She asked as they approached a building, her steps slowing down. "Do we want to focus on swords or what?" Now that they were actually getting closer it was a question of what boundaries to set for their fight.

"Cool!" Honestly, Aerexa wasn't expecting that level of enthusiasm, but it was infectious! It may have been a little childish but she raised her hand for a high five, hoping the other would catch on. "This is going to be great."
As they walked along she thought about what her mother might like best. She was adept at so many fighting styles that it was hard to figure out what she didn't have, but Aerexa had settled on a nice Falchion. Not only were they aesthetically pleasing, but they were also versatile enough that the blade could be used for her mother's daily battles.
"You've been to Chibale?" The names of her mother's weren't anything striking to Aerexa, but that location was. "I'd like to go someday just to see if the Alkidike are really as soft as mother says. In her eyes they've gotten complacent and lazy while the ones who came to Chiume are getting stronger by the day!" As to emphasize her statement Aerexa slapped her stomach with a grin.
"Yeah, that's it. I'm better with swords, but I know a little about maces, axes, scythes, spears....most, honestly. Depends on what you want to try. You said you wanted to find an axe though, right? So why not give those a try so you can see how they hold up?"

Odina hesitated, obviously not accustomed to having someone else share that level of enthusiasm with her, but she raised her hand and smacked it against the other girl's for a high five with a grin. This was definitely new, but not unwanted! "Agreed." She felt her steps getting more confident now that she had someone else sharing similar ideas and energy by her side. What a great day to decide on gift hunting!
"Soft?" Odina tilted her head and pondered it. "Maybe some but others not so much. It depends." She offered with a nod. "I saw a mentor who took on a pack of radaku by herself but then another one preferred spending more time in the earthling markets just chatting the days away." The Vandrea shook her head in frustration. How could that be amusing when one surely felt more thrill while hunting some sort of great beast or sparring with a strong opponent? Now that was exciting! Not that it was a horrible thing to spend some time in the market, she supposed. After all it had allowed her to meet Aerexa.
Odina nodded. "I love how heavy and strong an axe feels in my hand. I don't mind swords or spears either but that is definitely my preference. My twin though may like something more delicate." She admitted though her gaze was already sweeping across the nearby display looking for anything of interest, including that giant axe that gleamed in the sunlight. Ooooh.

"See that's it; the laziness! There's nothing wrong with speaking to earthlings when there's a need, but goddess go out and do something first." Aerexa scoffed. "This might be the longest I've talked to someone in ages and I can't fathom someone wasting their entire day doing it. It's nice, but not that nice." Just lying about, munching on fruit and speaking about the weather? Didn't they ever get bored?!
Ah, well, if her twin needed something lighter...."You know," She said coyly, sliding a little closer to Odina as they inspected the offerings, "You could get a little something for her and something for yourself as well. So long as she gets a nice gift then it won't matter as much, right? Because that axe is looking nice."

"Right? I agree! If you're on your way towards a hunt perhaps or maybe after a hunt it would be nice to spend some time chatting before retiring for the night." Odina could imagine sharing a moment with someone else under the stars, their bodies worn and exhausted from a feisty hunt but their minds still reeling with the events of a day. Now that would be a wonderful time to have a chat.
A low chuckle left her lips at the encouragement. "I feel like you're trying to tell me something." Odina joked before nodding. "I think I will do just that. Help me pick a pair of swords and we can test them against one another before leaving?" The axe she could test another day. It looked lovely so if anything she could at least keep it on a wall for decoration, though that felt like such a waste of a weapon.

"What, me? No way." Aerexa smirked. "So long as you help me to find a falchion I'll look for a pair of swords." At some point Aerexa wanted to meet Odina's sister to see if she was anything like the Vandrea before her. If there were two girls like this Aerexa might very well have some sparring partners!
Still, the main reason she was out was to find just the right gift for her mother so maybe once the blade was picked she could have something engraved into the steel. A saying, maybe, or some sort of stone added into the hilt.

A chortle left her. "Uh huh." Odina shook her head with amusement as she continued towards the weapons. It would be easy enough to find a falchion, right? She was determined to not only find the perfect weapon for her sister but to also help her new friend find whatever she needed. It was a great feeling to have gained someone that seemed to have potential as a sparring partner. Finally! Her older sisters were always off on their adventures with earthlings or whatever else they found so it wasn't as if she could truly spar with them anymore and she loved her twin but didn't think she could survive the true amount of punches that Odina liked to throw. Another reason she was determined to find the perfect weapon for her twin, to protect her even more whenever Odina was not always around.
