It was easy tracking Kor down once he followed the clues. He would know Kor’s style anywhere. Both tattoos, and in the parlor he once had. No doubt River’s mind where Kor was now that he had found the website.

It just took River a while to save up and move. It took him a while to get medically cleared. After all, he’d been dead for a bit, legally. The lack of oxygen stopped his heart, and caused some memory issues with him in the long run. Upon waking up, River didn’t even know who he was. Thank God for IDs. (Once they figured out which one was the real one, anyway.)

Now the man stood in front of the building that was once Eight and Half and stared at it. It wasn’t kept up with, aside from what the city required, it looked like. It’d been spray painted on, but Kor could have done that himself. The man was a tagger, back in the day. Loved to display his art everywhere he could. There were vines growing up the side of the building, and the fire escape rails on the side looked rusted. River wouldn’t trust them to get him safely out in case of a fire.

Reminded him of when he was a teen.

Was he ready to see Kor? It’d been nearly 15 years since he’d last seen him, which was wild to think about. They had been barely adults. His heart clenched. Barely adults, always together, and completely head over heels. He’d kept hold of that, even when he couldn’t remember who he was. There had always been someone who kept his heart close.

In the autumn air, River wavered.

He’d come so confidently to try to slot himself in Kor’s life again. ...Hadn’t he? Or did he just want Kor to know he was alive? Sending Kor a letter saying ‘hey, it’s River, remember me? I died? But I’m fine now. Got better.’. Kor wouldn’t believe it.

Kor seeing River with his own eyes? He had no choice but to believe that.

Still, he wavered. He hesitated.

He looked like some sort of stalker, just waiting outside the building, staring up at it and not moving much. He smoked his cigarette, and occasionally pushed his long hair out of his face to see better.

s**t, what would he say?

What if someone else answered the door? It was more than likely the case. It’d been years after all, over a decade. Kor was an irresistible man who charmed so easily and didn’t realize it. He put many under a spell when they were younger. It had been a hard won spot, saying you were dating Kor, more than a ******** buddy.

Yet at one point Kor had chosen him. River had been elated. He ate up all Kor’s time and affection. Riled the man up, got him to do more and more stupid s**t. Robbing convenience stores, selling more than weed. He even got Kor to turn tricks with him a time or two.

And then everything changed when they started selling on someone else’s territory. Eight and Half, more than a tattoo parlor, had been his home, his gang with Kor. They got what was coming to them. The older, more organized gang got to River and tried to end his life. They even beat Kor and brought him to watch.

So of course Kor would think he was dead and move on. He probably went into hiding after all that. River couldn’t blame him, he did too.

“s**t.”

River pulled the cigarette from his lips and threw it to the ground. He stepped on it and squished it in before finally stepping forward.

A sign on the door that read:

“Tattoo shop closed. For personal visits, use the back entrance. If you’re asking about a tattoo, ******** off.”

River couldn’t help the smile on his lips at that. That was Kor through and through. Always eloquent. Butterflies spread in his stomach, threatening to choke him by forming a ball in his throat of raw emotion. God above, he was doing this.

So with careful steps, River went around the back, and did use that back entrance. He rang the doorbell and waited.

So far it had been a day like most others. Kazuo and Kraven weren't here, just him and Derek. They'd hung out all day today, basking in the alone time, cuddling together uninterrupted.

Kor was doing a lot better. He'd been taking on one or two clients here or there for simple, small tattoo sessions. Derek and Kor were still definitely planning Derek's tattoo, wanting the lotus that the elephant sat upon in his own tattoo. It was touching, honestly. Very touching that Derek would want something similar to him. Matching but not. Kor always said he wouldn't get identical tattoos on himself to anyone. But this wasn't the same. It was the same but different. Kor had wanted to cry when Derek asked him to do it.

Since it was winter, they were both snuggled on the couch right now. Kor's head was pillowed on Derek's shoulder, and he had the blond man in his lap, basically. Kor's arms were wrapped around Derek's waist and his lips pressed to the other's cheek and neck here and there. Kor was content, and happy for the first time in a while. It showed. He was drawing again, even spray painting his own building to see if he still had the talent. (In Kor's opinion, he didn't, but Derek was encouraging and told him to keep at it, that what he did was still good.)

They were watching Buzzfeed Unsolved on the TV right now. It wasn't serious horror, but it made Kor laugh and his eyes light up. Kor was even goofing around a lot more compared to when Derek first found him.

The doorbell started him a bit and he blinked.

"You didn't order food did'ja?" He asked, checking his phone for some confirmation of a package or something. He was expecting a few more tattoo supplies.

"Wanna get it though? I gotta piss." With that said, he turned Derek's head and gave him a proper kiss, paused the show and physically picked Derek up off his lap and put him to the side. With a wink and a wave, Kor darted to the bathroom, footsteps stomping as he did. He had had to go for a while it seemed.

"Mmm?" Derek stirred, half awake. Between the warm blanket and Kor's affection, he'd been lulled into a doze. He blinked, scrubbing at his face. Snatching up his phone he checked for any notifications. "...No? Kaz and Kray didn't send anything did they?" Had they ordered anything and forgotten about it?

He made a soft noise when Kor kissed him, half tempted to chase after for more, but he sighed in defeat instead. Waving a hand at the other as he moved towards the door. "Yeah yeah."

Rubbing at his neck, he turned the handle.

He heard voices, at least he thought he did. More than one. River's heart lurched at that. It could also not be Kor. It could be leftovers he saw here that made him think it was. This could be anyone's house now. God, River felt like such a moron.

The wind kicked up outside as the door opened and River was met with a blond...what looked like seventeen year old. His heart dropped into his stomach but at the same time he was kind of relieved. Not Kor. That confusing mix of emotion settled over him and those purple eyes looked the curly headed man over.

"Oh.. Uh... Sorry, I think I have the wrong place," he said, uncertainty in his voice. "I was lookin' for someone who used to own the shop below? I think his name's Kor? Uh... McKneil." River's voice was deep for he looked. Rich and full of bass. One of his hands came to shove his hair out of his face since the wind was being relentless and River had long hair that liked to fly away in any wind that happened. He should have put it in a ponytail or something.

"Sorry for botherin' you."

He took a step back and away. Well, this lead seemed to go nowhere.

Derek blinked. "Oh uh. No. You're good." The blonde jerked a thumb over his shoulder, back inside the house. "He's here. Did you want me to get him?" The wind kicked up again, causing him to shiver. Maaaan, he'd been so warm earlier... Now he was cold. "You know what, why don't you come in." And out of the hell cold. "I'll go get him for you, just gimme a sec." He said backing up out of the way.

River stood there awkwardly for a moment, a little dumbfounded that Kor was actually here. He licked his lips nervously as the anxiety was starting to bubble up that he hadn't even thought about. Why wouldn't he be nervous about this? It had been how many years? At least ten.

Still, the bluenette slowly stepped forward, following the blind inside and just shuffled over to one side awkwardly. His vibrant purple eyes looked around, giving a little noise at the entry way to the actual apartment and then toed off his shoes. Kor did like no shoes in the house. He wouldn't enforce it, but River remembered that little fact. Or maybe it was just habit from River living alone, either way, he was now sock clad as he stood there.

"Yes, uh.. I'm an old friend of his."

He looked down then, letting his blue hair obscure his face.

-------

Kor bounced out of the bathroom, wiping his hands on his shirt to dry because it was often times more absorbent than his hand towels. The man was in a good mood, and it was very obvious.

"Baaabe, who is it?" He called, stopping by the fridge to get something to drink. He decided orange juice would be good enough and poured him a glass. "Was it food? Did the boys think about us while we're alone?"

------

River froze at the voice, his head snapping up, looking deeper into the apartment. His heart started racing and his face flushed a deep shade of red. What if Kor didn't remember him? What if --

Those what if questions were gone the moment Kor came around the corner and the two locked eyes. That was definitely the right man. The eyes, the tattoo under his eye, the piercings. It was Kor, and River's eyes watered and started rimimg red as he tried to hold back his tears.

It took a few tries to clear his throat enough to say a thin, "Hey, papi."

-------

The orange juice glass, thankfully plastic, fell from Kor's hand as he stared. That's all he could do. Green eyes stared wide and he was frozen to the spot. Color drained from his face as memories came back to him. Memories he really didn't want to think about, he tried so hard to suppress.

"...Who the ******** are you, 'cause he's dead. River's ********'..."

Kor sounded pissed. Hurt. Shaky. He was confused and stepped forward, fists balled at his side. He stepped in the juice, not caring if his feet were wet now.

"You...you a cousin...?" He wanted to cry. The tears did fall as he finally stopped, standing next to Derek. "...River...?"

"Aaaah... Cool, cool." Derek rubbed at his arms, trying to keep the chill from outside seeping in. He wondered about how this man and Kor knew each other but didn't press it. He knew there were certain things Kor didn't like talking about.

He had been about to answer when the glass clattered to the ground. Derek froze, gaze immediately darting to Kor. "...Kor?"

River

Derek turned glancing at the man behind him. There's no way this could be...

He turned, when Kor came to stand next to him. His hand moved, resting against his boyfriend's back. "...The one from...?" Came the tentative question. He rubbed at Kor's back, trying to sooth some tension, unsure what else to do. "Uhm... S-should I go?"

River stared at Kor, nearly unbelieving. When Kor mentioned River died, well, River bit down on his lip and just looked off to the side before sucking in a breath.

So apparently the kid did know, too, because of the words he seemed to whisper.

"...I did... I was dead. Uh. For a bit. But..." he rubbed his neck, looking away from both of them. "I got better." He really didn't want to talk about it with a kid here. Who Kor was apparently with, if the affection was anything to go by -- and the fact Kor had called him babe.

-------

Kor nearly jumped at the hand that had touched his back. He didn't relax into it. Instead he just stared at River, barely registering the words either of them spoke. His mind was racing, memories playing again and again. The urge to grab River by the face and kiss him like both of their lives depended on it was so strong. He couldn't move though. Kor couldn't make himself take a step forward.

Instead the man swiped at the tears spilling down his cheeks, sniffled and shook his head.

"Don't leave," he whispered to Derek, moving to grab the man's hand, taking it from his back. He squeezed onto that pale hand. Something to steady him.

Looking back to River, Kor shifted. "....What do you-"

------

"I was dead. I..." River looked to Derek and then back at Kor. God he didn't want to talk in front of someone he didn't know. Not about this. Why didn't he just call? Well, Kor's private number wasn't available. The shop phone didn't work either, he'd tried it a few different times.

"They got me to the hospital. I was dead. Legally dead. No ...No breath. No heartbeat. ....I just sat up though. Apparently took a big breath, sat up, and ....panicked. I didn't.." River licked his lips and then pulled some of his hair forward to start playing with it. This wasn't how he wanted to tell Kor all of this. "Anyway. ....No oxygen means I ...I didn't have memory for a while. Not.... but then I got... some memories back. You. The gang. Uh..."

The lanky bluenette finally looked up again. "I..I'll go. I'm sorry. This wasn't a good idea."

------

And before River could even make it to the door Kor had grabbed onto his shirt. That oversized shirt. River used to never wear these kinds of clothes.

"Don't."

That one word was full of so many emotions. It was raw, hurt, hopeful, confused.

s**t what did he do now?

Derek returned the squeeze, unsure what to even do with himself.

"...I know the gist of the story..." He said softly, when River glanced at him. He got it. River didn't wanna talk about this in front of him. If the rolls were reversed, Derek would feel the same. Instead, he stood there, rubbing his thumb against Kor's hand as the other told his story.

Kor bolted, and Derek shoved his hands into the pocket on his hoodie, unsure what to do with himself. "Hey." He said softly, trying to get Kor's attention. "How bout you bring him... in?" The blonde said awkwardly. "I'm sure River doesn't want to stand in the door way the whole time."

Kor looked at Derek and nodded. Okay. That was a step. Something small. He let go of River's shirt, after a long moment and then shuffled a little.

"Yeah. You're right. C'mon. Uh... Welcome to the apartment." He lead River to the livingroom proper and then felt seriously self conscious about it all. It was so small. Filled with Kor's stuff, Derek's, Kaz and Kray's when they left stuff over.

Still, he ushered River to sit down and went back to Derek, grabbing hold of his hand again and squeezed it before nodding.

"Right. Uh.. ...********, God. Never thought I'd have to do this. River, this is Derek, one of the boyfriends. My... main boyfriend, I guess?" How did he even describe that?

-------

River followed the pair in and sat when prompted. Licking his lips a little bit, he looked down at his feet as he was introduced to the kid, a boyfriend like he figured. Why did this hurt so bad? It had been so long. He knew this was most likely the way things were going to go. Yet River, apparently, wasn't done torturing himself.

"Hey," he said, trying to remain as calm as he could. He could at least be friends with Kor again. Maybe with the kid, to stay close to Kor.

"You never did have trouble findin' someone." It wasn't an insult. It was spoken fondly. "At least from what I remember." The look on his face was an attempt at something light. Something affectionate.

"River Ramirez," he said to Derek, giving the blond his whole attention for the moment. "....Friend from the dead, I suppose."

Derek gave Kor a soft smile as he was dragged into the other room. "Main nothing. Just boyfriend." Main made him feel like he was competing with the others. "Though... Speaking of.. I'm not entirely sure I'm the one that should be here... You should probably call you know who." Derek said.

Still, Derek flopped on the couch. "Derek Sheperd. Resident pain in the a**." He said, offering River a hand. It was good to finally put a face to the name. Though he wondered where they went from here.

"You can't leave," Kor said, going to stand right beside Derek, not wanting to sit himself down. "...." He might have realized how desperate that sounded, how much of a demand it had been. If Derek left, Kor might lose his damn mind. This was overwhelming in so many ways.

He should tell Kray. He needed to. Kraven had a right to know, too, but he couldn't bring himself to get his phone out. He just stood t here, holding onto Derek, staring at a ghost.

--------

Kor's tone struck a nerve in River and he just looked down at his knees. He took a steadying breath and then gave a noise.

"I'm glad you... have people. I... remember you liked to surround yourself. Never wanted to be alone." This was awkward as hell. Why did he think this was a good idea? Oh right, Kor had been a part of him for so long before everything happened. He reached up to scratch is eyebrow and then blinked when he felt something at his legs.

A familiar cat who looked like he'd seen better days was at his feet. Slowly River reached down to pick the old, orange cat up and put him in his lap. "Hey, cranky b*****d," he whispered, scratching MF's head and face. The cat just started purring immediately, eyes closing in contentment.

"I can't believe he's still alive. He's like what, sixteen? Seventeen now? Wow.."

"...Okay..." He said slowly, at Kor's sudden tone. He blinked, watching the other man before gently reaching out and tugging him down onto the couch. "...Do... Do you want me to call him?" He wasn't entirely sure what to do about Kaz... but Derek would cross that boat when he got to it. He glanced at River before turning back to Kor, giving a slight jerk in the other's direction. Kor should... Should be talking to his friend. They had so much to catch up on. But he couldn't blame Kor for how he felt.. He'd feel the same if he ever saw her again.

"Oh of course." Derek grumbled. He glared at the cat who made himself comfy in River's lap. "You're ******** doing that to spite me aren't you?" He hissed at the cat. Derek could swear that the cat purred louder in response. "MF ******** hates me." Derek sighed at River. "Loves the rest of the guys no problem. But can't ******** stand the sight of me."

Kor sat rather stiffly when he was tugged down. He wasn't sure he would ever relax again. Not after this. Slowly he dug his phone out of his pocket and pulled up his texts with Kray. What did he even say?

Quote:
never gonna believe this....

Then Kor sent a photo of river scratching MF's cheeks. While River wasn't actually smiling, he looked... a little less tense than Kor did. Well, Kray wouldn't be able to tell that, butt that's how it looked to Kor. He put his phone on vibrate after that and put it on his leg before grabbing Derek's hand again. Derek really did ground him.

What the hell did he even talk about? He had so many questions, but didn't know where to start. Swallowing thickly, Kor opened his mouth to say something and then closed it.

"....How'd you find me..?"

-------

"He's just a cranky old man who hates change." River's voice was a bit lighter as he continued to shower the cat in affection. God, he didn't think he'd see this cat again either. River leaned down to press a kiss to the cat's spine and got a swat to his face for it. No claws, luckily, and the cat hopped down with his tail flicking with irritation as he walked off.

River just sort of waved with his fingers. Then Kor asked his question and River thought about it.

"After... the hospital, I had to go in for physical therapy and all kinds of therapy actually. Uh... I followed your work. Your tats." Social media was a powerful thing. When someone loves the work they got, they praised it highly, and Kor's work was no exceptions. "From what I can see inside, it even looks like ...the apartment we had."

Ouch. That one really did hurt.

Derek sat quietly, watching as Kor shot a quick text off to Kray. He'd be here soon enough, if Kor's reaction was anything to go by. He wondered how Kray would handle all this. Part of him hoped Kaz would show up too...For his own sanity. He didn't want to be here by himself during all this.

"Are you sure? Cause I've been here for ages and I could swear he hates me now more then he did when I first got here." Derek huffed, shifting just enough to lean against Kor. He glanced between the two for a moment before speaking up. "...Where are you staying now?"
