Username: NovaCracker
Preference: Candy Cane Caribou, Gingerbread Penguin, Gingerbread Pronghorn
Concept: It's time for Cooking With Nova! (Boo!) You! In the back! Shaddap.

Anyhow yes! Cooking! Because somehow I can pull a functional recipe out of thin air on the fly and it tastes generally decent. Or modify recipes. Both? Both! This one is a little bit of me, being cheap, and craving my Hail Mary, Everything Sucks Comfort drink in a Quick 'n' Easy format anyone can use... The Fancy Minty Fauxcha! (Oooooo! Aaaaah!)

You will need:
Coffee, your choice, at least 1 cup
1 packet PLAIN cocoa mix OR 2 Tablespoons Cocoa Mix from one of those giasnt tubs.
1 teaspoon Mint Extract, althought half this is preferable.
Peppermint candies
1 Peppermint stick
1 Oreo or chocolate cookie, smallish
Whipped Cream, preferably homemade but use whatever
1 glass mug

Make the coffee. While hot, add the mint extract and cocoa mix and stir until there's no chunks of mix, unless you like those. Set aside, and crush the Peppermint Candies. Take the CoffeecocoaMinty blend, and while sppreciating the smell, top with whip, then sprinkle on crushed candies, the. Use Cookie and Peppermint stick as garnish. Savor while appreciating not spending gift money on a coffee place, or however you apprecater your mochas these days.

Welcome to Wishing Star Bakery where we make the finest treats to tempt new friends! I see you are looking for something from our Holiday collection? An excellent choice this time of year indeed! Now, we offer both food and drink...something sweet? Well, that still covers both dears! Ah, a food tidbit. I think I have the perfect offering for you! This is our Winter Wonderland cookie. It starts with a typical sugar cookie base but then we add a bit of magic! Instead of traditional sugar, we use glitter given to us by the Sugar Plum fairies! (they are a bit mad for our peppermint snaps.) Royal icing will not do for these special cookies, no indeed! We gather the purest snowflakes before they can fall to the ground and combine them with crushed candy canes and bits of the Nothern lights given to us by Santa's elves (they trade for our specialty cocoas), just to give it that proper glimmer and shine of course. For best results at attracting a new friend, we recommend a dozen, one to leave out for each night of the 12 days leading up to Christmas day. Oh dear no, there is no charge at the Wishing Star Bakery! Only gifts given and received. For our Winter Wonderland cookies, well the 'cost' as it were is...a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday with loved ones.

Concept: (This is written from the perspective of a Soq!)

Hello again, you savvy gourmets of the Kawani Lands! We're back again with another delicious recipe, and what better way to celebrate the coming of Winter than a sweet and tasty treat? You'll have to do some foraging for this one, but trust me, it's going to be worth it.

You should know by now that Winter is my favorite time of the year. Several seasons back, there was one particularly freezing night... I'd spent a long day gathering winter berries (yum!), and was looking for some shelter for the night when I heard something strange. It was a soft little noise, and if I hadn't been standing so close by, I probably would have missed it entirely! I rustled around in the bushes, and wouldn't you know it, there was a tiny little raccoon kit all by himself in there! Naturally, I had to bring him with me... and that's how I met Bira! Yes, that's right, the same Bira that helps me with all my delicious recipes (his little paws are much more dexterous than hooves)! In fact, I'd highly recommend finding a little friend of your own to help you in the culinary arts!

Today, I'll be teaching you how to create one of my special creations. A cold, sweet dessert to celebrate the coming of the new year! Sweet vanilla cream mixed with oats to give it a little texture, drizzled with honey with a kick of cinnamon... it's perfect for Winter!

Now, you'll need the following ingredients:

-A handful of oats
-Honey (don't get stung!)
-Vanilla beans
-Cream i(you may have to get clever with this one--two-leggers carry all sorts of foods!)
-Cinnamon bark
-A special spice-read more to find out!

You'll need a way to extract the seeds from the vanilla bean pods. Mix these with oats, honey, cinnamon bark, and cream! You'll need the help of an Angeni (some of them have ice powers, you know!), or a Water Ulun'suti for this! Have them slowly freeze the cream while stirring--something about their powers makes it oh so delicious! You can have them stop when the consistency is how you'd like! Some prefer it a bit more runny--other enjoy an almost snow-like consistency!

And now, dear readers.... While I've made this particular treat before, I had the utmost pleasure of discovering the perfect way to season it! It is an extraordinarily rare spice (so I'm told), given to me by a very old two-legger! Now, don't let the name frighten you--it sounds rather ominous. Corpse powder, he called it. And why would a spice be called something so sinister, you may ask? Well, he claimed it's because it's good enough to die for! If you're ever able to obtain it, I encourage you, give it a try! I found it to be utterly delightful.

How strange. I seem to be coming down with a terrible headache.... I can't seem to find Bira anywhere, either. It's not like him to run off...

Cake recipe for the perfect Soq Wassailing holiday created by raccoon and soq Bakers. I thought vegan recipes would be more in line with soq bakers and saleratus, or pearl ash was used before baking soda. Substitutions can be made depending on the diet of the guest. I've heard the seathi queen likes fish food flakes in her version of the cake.

1 cup Milk
2-3 tsp Vanilla Extract

6 tbsp Cocoa Mix
or
Half a bar of 60% or higher cacoa chocolate, broken into pieces*

Place small sauce pan on the stove, add vanilla and cinnamon and if using solid chocolate and not a premade powder, add sugar. Add chocolate if using a solid option, otherwise add cream and milk and then powder. Whisk until thoroughly mixed. Heat until just before boil.

'Twas the night before Yule, and all through the land
The creatures were stirring, everyone gave a hand
Winter Solstice was coming, 'tis time to prepare
In hopes that a great feast, soon would be there

The foals were nestled, closing their eyes
Their head filled with visions, of yummy Yule Pie
You've not heard of this tasty warm sweet?
Please let me tell you, how to make this treat!

Yule Pie

Crust:
➼ 2 cup oats
➼ 1/4 cup of prefered flour (Almond, wheat, quinoa, etc.)
➼ 1/2 cup coconut oil
➼ 2 tbsp of honey or 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
➼ 1/4 tsp of cinnamon
➼ 1/4 tsp of salt
Optional ingredients (feel free to use your favorite spices):
➼ 1/4 tsp neighmeg, I mean nutmeg
➼ 1/2 tsp ground cloves
➼ 1/4 tsp of ginger

Pie Filling:
➼ 1 cup of sliced apples
➼ 1 cup of mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, cranberries or whatever your harvest yielded!)
➼ 2 tbsp of sugar
➼ 2 tbsp of cold water
➼ 1/4 cup of mashed bananas, pumpkin puree or sweet potato puree (makers choice, as a holding agent)
Optional additions:
➼ 1/2 cup of crushed almonds or favorite nut
➼ Sugar cubes to taste (garnish)

For the crust, combine all ingredients in a bowl. It will be sticky.
Mash into a pie plate, and mold the shape of your crust. Set aside.

For the filling, put all fruit ingredients in a bowl. Add sugar and water.
Fold in mashed bananas gently, so you don't squish your berries. Place in your pie shell.
Can sprinkle with some crushed up sugar cubes.
Warm in the sun before serving. Or serve chilled by placing in the snow, for a nice crunch!

Feel free to alter the recipe, to make it your own
With veggies and fruits, that are locally grown
The feast is coming, for Winter Solstice is near
So make this holiday treat, for all you hold dear!

Hoofmade Peppermint Soquili Cookies
This recipe was passed down to me by my loving grandmare who told me that nothing would earn you friends or, possibly, assist you in love like the sweet kiss of peppermint. Every year we would make batches of these together and present them to anyone we passed. Foals, stallions and mares alike would all partake of our sweet treats! All hearts were full and spirits light which made for a truly magical and merry Christmas night!

3 cups bran
1 cup oats
1 cup flax seed
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon salt
1 cup carrots, chopped
1 cup molasses (tip: oil your measuring cup to make it easier to get out!)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup applesauce (recruit some foals to use their tiny prancing hooves for this!)
1 bag peppermint treats (thank you Sugar Plum Fairy!)

Place your stone slabs(oven) in the fire until they reach 300 degrees. (Fillies & colts should not attempt this without adult supervision.)

Gather your bran, oats, flax seeds, flour, salt and brown sugar into one bowl and combine your carrots, molasses and mushed apples in a separate bowl. You can either choose to mix these by hoof or by using some manner of fantastical Christmas magic(electric mixer.)

Once your dry ingredients have been well mixed and your wet ingredients have turned into a brown, sticky soup it is time to bring the two together! Dump the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and stir...stir...stir...and stir some more.

Now you should have delicious smelling sticky goop! (Halfway there, you are doing good!) Find a rather strange looking dimpled stone (mini-muffin tin) and scoop your mix into those dimples! Don't worry about these boiling over like a cauldron, fill 'er up all the way to the top!!

This part can get a little tough...especially when your muzzle is so big! But, take one of those peppermint candies granted to you by the Sugar Plum Fairy and push it into the top of your mixture so that it makes a little dent. This is the cozy little bed for your candy to tuck into once the cooking is done. (Do not try and bake these with the candies in them otherwise it will melt to the bottom and just be...sad.)

Bake on your hot stones for 50 minutes. Try not to drool as you enjoy the smell of them cooking!

Remove from your hot stones and tuck the peppermint candies into their little beds. Then give them a little kiss and place them back on the stones for another 10 minutes so that they stick and won't roll away when sharing with your other soquili pals!

Lastly, pull them from the stones one final time and set them on the snow for about 10 to 15 minutes so no one burns themselves.

Finally, and most importantly, share these with your friends near and far! Bring them enough cheer to last them throughout the year and let them know just how very important they are to you.

(As an amusing side note, I made these for my horses but my family is eating them instead. rofl Safe for human consumption! But yes, the ponies got them finally and loved them!)
