Fangnyl really, really needed to get better at draining people for the energy in his source stone before he wasted all of his glamour time. He just... had troubles staying focused long enough, busy with learning everything about Earth and spending time with Aliez. He wanted to know everything! Especially since one never knew what knowledge would translate into something useful for getting Velenia back (or for when they had it back).

So, with a frantic, erratic pace, he searched through the night for someone—anyone—he could drain. Even if they were less than ideal for him to pounce on.

Spotting someone finally alone, even if they were definitely not someone he would've picked normally (that is, nearly fully aware of their surroundings and being cautious), he launched himself at them and started taking their energy, ignoring their sudden yelling and not-so-sudden quieting.

It was the shouting that caught her attention. Unusual, since usually it came with a power signature she was adept at sensing, but Ida paused in her patrol to check it out anyway. A few jumps from one building to another put her at a vantage point to peer down into an alley where someone was... getting mugged? The mundanity of it was... absurd. And weirdly refreshing?

Life was weird, when simple crime was so unusual in comparison to everything... else.

While not one, typically, to play vigilante with real crime, it was impossible for Ida to just... turn and walk away from this. Even if it wasn't a Negaverse agent, they were still attacking someone innocent, and she had long ago made a vow to protect. Gathering herself, the senshi dropped from the roof to land in a crouch, raising her voice as she surged to her feet.

"Hey you!" She shouted as she rushed him. "Let that guy go!"

Hopefully, the man wouldn't look at her, see a woman in a short ruffled skirt, and assume he had the upper hand. She didn't particularly want to have to show him how wrong he was.

Fangnyl froze up when he was rushed and he cursed himself for it as he was knocked away, stone almost but not quite falling from his grip as his balance was set sideways. He fell to the ground with a thump and looked up at the woman, terrified, as his hood fell back.

He didn't know anything about her except she'd definitely just seen how unnaturally not-Earth he was and he whipped out his laser dagger, slashing it in her direction.

"G-Go away," he said, cursing himself again for not keeping his voice steady.

The man fell back, as she'd hoped, but... when he landed on his a**, it wasn't a man she'd found, it was an alien.

Still a man, just not a human one.

She'd only been on the sidelines of the conflict with the aliens and had only briefly met Caedus, but she'd felt the betrayal keenly. She hadn't trusted, not quite, but some part of her had so dearly hoped...

The knife flashed at her and she threw an arm up as she fell back. Her eyes on the alien, she crouched to touch the man he'd dropped, searching out a pulse to be sure he still lived.

"What were you doing?" She snapped. "Is this what your people came here for, to prey on innocent people? I thought you were more noble minded than that... this is no better than basic thugs."

She had no idea what side of the conflict this particular individual had landed on... but attacking civilians? Either Caedus had a lot to answer for, or that group that had gone with Lyndin had been truly corrupted by the Negaverse's influence.

Fangnyl was briefly happy she wasn't Negaverse, until her demands made him wince, reminding him of the one who'd killed—no, he couldn't think of that without wanting to cry. He lowered his weapon, keeping it in a loose grip. He could still defend himself if necessary, but he wasn't going to be on the offensive. He needed to deescalate the situation instead of run it higher.

"No, not all," he said, swallowing and ducking his head in shame. "I, uh... I'm terribly sorry. I am..."

He forced himself to speak slowly instead of babble. "I am very forgetful. I needed energy so I could use my human glamour," he said, looking back up at her with wide, afraid eyes. "I enjoy being in the company of humans and learning about Earth, but I'm terrible at remembering to make sure I won't... scare any of them. By looking like this."

He gestured to his skin and ears.

Ida felt a wave of exasperation and she stared at the young man, tracking the weak but steady pulse under her fingertips. She had a hard time believing he was lying to her about this, even with the unease his kind had earned with her. He seemed so genuinely shamed by his behavior...

"I don't know much about your culture." She said finally, taking her hand away from the downed man. The senshi spoke slowly, trying to put some weight behind the words. "I don't know what you hold as morally valuable, but I feel like I need to explain that to humans, taking something from someone without their consent is bad. Tangible items, like food or money or something, can maybe be excused if you are in dire need, but you should never take away someone's bodily autonomy... Which is what you are doing when you drain their energy. Not wanting to scare people does not justify hurting someone else."

Ida held out her hand, palm up and fingers open, and gestured at him. Her expression softened a little, though it was still stern. The face of the health care professional she was, and the older sister she had been.

"Here, give me your stone for a minute. I'm going to give you my energy instead. I understand why you need it... and its better for it to come from me than this poor guy."

Fangnyl winced at her lecture, nodding and still staring at the ground, the shame choking him. Ancients, he was so stupid.

But she gestured to him, and he looked up again to hear her next words.

"Oh, I... You're... so kind," he said a bit breathlessly, clearing his throat. "Thank you."

He gently placed his stone in her palm and drew her energy into it slowly, carefully. She didn't need to faint or anything. Not when she was being so kind to him.

Crouch there in the alley way, the dimness made the shine of her markings show all the more as they ran down the arm she held out to him, lighting up the crystal from below just the faintest amount from the orchid shape in her palm. Energy flowed easily from her, both pulled by the crystal and pushed through her own effort, clear and steady and warm as the pulsing heart of her planet and the rivers that ran under its surface. It didn't even drain her own energy stores, not really, with the deep and easy connection she had with her planet and the extra she had built up over time.

Her eyes half-lidded as Ida concentrated, though it only took part of her attention, and she used the quiet moments to watch the young man. It was sort of the first chance she'd really gotten to get an up close look at one of their new denizens... and he was both alike and unalike Caedus, much the same way different humans were different. He seemed to understand what she tried to convey, and even felt chastised for it, which gave the senshi just the smallest lifting of hope. These people understood right and wrong... they could feel compassion and understand how their actions hurt other people. They weren't so wildly different... and, hopefully, different in ways they could celebrate together, maybe.

"I know this place must be very different and strange to you." She said softly. "I'm glad you're enjoying being here though, and learning about it. I welcome your people being here... we all just wanted to help them, really."

He startled a bit when she spoke again, wide eyes flying up to meet hers. He'd been quiet the last few moments, thinking about needing to plan better than he had been. His actions had been so shameful and selfish... He didn't want to hurt anybody on this planet. It was so beautiful and full of life.

"It is," he whispered, "There's life. Real, diverse life. It's... everything, here. The air doesn't need recycling, the animals are wild... It's beautiful, here."

He cleared his throat and withdrew his crystal, shoving in his subspace. "Thank you. Very much."

Ida half smiled as he took his crystal back, feeling a touch of melancholy. This planet was beautiful... not as beautiful in some ways as Ida, but in its own sort of way. Ida was perfect, pristine... Earth was messy, but wild, and full of people in all their different shapes and forms. Ida couldn't compete with the sheer abundance of life here, even with what had returned to it since she'd started tending it.

Hopefully, this man would remember how beautiful he found the Earth the next time he ran out of glamour energy, and decide to find some other way to get it.

"You're welcome." She said with a nod, sitting back on her heels with her forearms across her knees. "If there was a way for you to contact me, I'd be willing to help you with the energy you need... or maybe somewhere I could meet you on maybe a more regular basis? I don't know how long that crystal lasts... do you keep spares that you can charge while you use the other one?"

He wasn't a senshi, so there would be no way for him to reach her senshi phone, and he didn't have a knight's ring to send her magical messages. Finding him again later was going to be a challenge... but she wanted to keep an eye on him, and by extension, the others of the Vanguard. They were still such an unknown, and the ones that left with the Negaverse? Who knew what their goals were, or their plans.

Fangnyl shook his head. "No, it takes a lot of energy out of Lyndin to make these, so he only makes them when one is destroyed," he explained, "But! I do have a human cellular mobile phone!"

He pulled it from subspace with a proud smile, waving it around a bit. "Fascinating primitive technology. Apparently you can play games on it! I haven't tried, but it sounds like fun. And getting to have fun on Earth is really... well, fun!"

He chuckled a bit as his messy phrasing.

"I know that, ah? Your non-magical identity is important to keep separate from your magical identity," he said, "But I don't have to know your name or face, just a phone number? Or, perhaps, I think this thing called Tweedier? I've heard it's pretty anonymous."

The eternal's face shuttered at the mention of the other Vanguard leader, some of her openness fading. Lyndin had tried to give them to the Negaverse... and mention of him told her what side this cadet had fallen on. It made her wary, but there was still something about his innocent, childish enjoyment of earth that softened it a little bit. Their world must be so much different than here... she could hardly imagine it. She'd been to other worlds, of course, but his had people on it... people who had come to be in completely different circumstances, with different influences. Obviously, they were just as capable of making mistakes...

'Primitive technology'. She almost smiled at that, gently shaking her head.

"Yeah, most newer cell phones can do games. Its a big buisness for some people who make them." She hugged her knees but shook her head again, almost sad about the truth of things. "I can't give you my phone number, I'm afraid. If you're with Lyndin, then its just too dangerous for me and the people I care about. If something happened and the Negaverse got it, it would put us all in danger... phone numbers can be tracked back to the people who own them, you know? So, sorry about that."

She bit her lip in thought. Would Liryn or Illyria be able to help? Maybe if she routed the call through them...

"But... maybe you can give me your number? I promise not to share it with anyone. I can get one of the cats to make a safe way for you to call me, and I can text you when we get it worked out. They could mask my number so it can't be traced." Or at least, Ida hoped they'd be able to do that. They made the senshi phones, after all.

He shrank a bit at her not-accusation, the statement of being with Lyndin, phrased as it if it were some hugely terrible thing. But... He wanted to know why so many people seemed to think making such a large change was easy. Heck, he'd desperately wanted to stray from Lyndin's side himself, but when it came down to it, he couldn't. Not with Aliez still alive. Not when his home still suffered.

Everything was just so... deeply complicated. And... he admired the few that had defected. Making the hard choice he couldn't bring himself to.

He nodded at her suggestion, tapping at the phone a few times with a frustrated frown until he finally found the setting that showed what his number was and held it out to her.

"Thank you," he said quietly. "It's... I..."

What could he even say?

"Life kinda sucks."

There. He'd heard that on some television show on some kind of mouse head channel, or something. That was probably accurate, right?

The senshi took the phone he offered gently with both hands, turning it over to view the number. Holding out one hand, she pulled her phone out of subspace, feeling it's weight settle into her palm. Her thumb flicked it open and she made a note of his number before she handed his phone back to him.

Now she did smile, and it was both vibrantly happy, and softly sad.

"Life is beautiful. Colorful, vibrant and wildly beautiful. Its the circumstances, the things that happen and the people who make them happen, that suck sometimes. People make choices, and sometimes those choices suck for other people. But I think despite that, Life is still beautiful, and precious." She said as she dismissed her phone back to subspace. "Mmm... I know its not the same as Earth, since there are no people there, but... if you'd ever like to see another planet that's not Earth, let me know? You might like getting to see Ida, my asteroid... especially if you like plants."

Fangnyl nodded shyly at her clarifications, fighting back a small blush. Gosh, this Senshi was so nice.

"I would love to," he gushed immediately, eyes brightening and ears perking up a bit. "I love, well. Not just plants, but animals, too. I think—"

He cut himself off before he could rave some more, giving an embarrassed squeak and blushing harder.

"Sorry. But, um. Yes. I would like that very much. Thank you," he said more stiffly, trying to shove the embarrassing moment away.
