In the Dark Kingdom’s realm, time wasn’t so unlike what the Vanguard were used to back on Velencya. There was no morning nor was there night. Time just… was. The lights of their synthetic world could be programmed to create the illusion of day and night if they wanted, but their world was always awake, so why shouldn’t at least half of them be too? They rested when they felt like it. They synched up schedules as necessary, but it was nothing like Earth with its beautiful sunrises to signal morning, and its sunsets to encourage sleep. But that made the passing of time a bit more torturous to not know when Commodore Lyndin would be rejoining them. He left the house in Negaspace when it was morning in Destiny City on Earth. He promised he would be safe, that they would be safe, and to look after each other while he was away. He would talk to the Queen that mocked him the night before. He would ensure their safety going forward in exchange for… what? Their group had been given the opportunity to leave that morning as well. They were always welcome to meet up later and discuss what was going on. They had their ComTech to locate each other. It was probably safer to leave the Dark Kingdom while Commodore Lyndin was not with them. Aliez wasn’t sure how many times he’d folded and unfolded and refolded the blanket he anxiously moved from hand to hand. He stared blankly into the corner of the room as he waited, listened. The noises of the Dark Kingdom put him on edge. It wasn’t soothing like the rain or wind through colorful leaves or rustling of corn stalks. At some point he’d changed out of his blood stained uniform, but he couldn’t recall the motions. He’d scrubbed at his face after being reminded that it was stained with blood as well. He’d gone quietly from one Cadet to the next, checking to make sure they didn’t show any signs of internal injuries that might have been missed, adjusting blankets to make sure they were warm as they rested. It had been easier to check on the ones that were asleep, so that worked better for him. Less energy that they could exert. But morning came, and the Commodore left, and all that they could do was either leave or wait. Quote: This ORP is for the Vanguardians that arrived with Lyndin in the Dark Kingdom. This ORP starts before Lyndin has returned from his meeting with Queen Laurelite, but the mule should post within 24 hours. You do not need to respond with your character for them to get any information provided in this ORP. Your character also does not have to be present at all, if they would have ICly warped to Earth at their earliest chance. They can obtain the information later from the other Cadets. Additionally, even if your character has not been stamped yet, you are still welcome to join this ORP.

Cadet Daesva Why she was still in there, she wasn't sure. All through the night--according to the clock on her ComTech, anyway--all she'd wanted was to get out of Negaspace. She hated it in there. Her skin crawled there.
But she was still here.
Eventually, she'd slept some, after pouring over different reports from her own research, what others shared about their time on Earth, and different materials the Commodore had allowed them access to. She barely got through a quarter of them before her mind started buzzing, and she just moved her eyes over the text without comprehending it from that point on. Making absent notes about parts to try and go back to later that seemed interesting or useful.
By this point, she'd gotten through another quarter of the materials she'd been fighting with the night before, and was now on her third round of various stretches to work out every pop, kink, and crack from her body. It kept her from pacing, at least. For... now....
But she wasn't the only one feeling anxious, and she quirked a brow at the blanket Aliez was holding. "...there's other blankets, you know," she said simply. And, it was true. There were other blankets he could fold.
She scooped up the one she'd used the night before, balled it up, and lightly tossed it towards him. Doing things, even repetitiously, she understood. It was why she had her various... quirks? Was that the term? It gave nervous energy a place to go. Sometimes.

Cadet VynVyn couldn’t stand the Dark Kingdom. Everything about it seemed sinister. Walking through the night before, he hadn’t been able to discern any redeeming qualities. Even the house they’d been allowed to use, while decently kept, felt unwelcoming to him. He wanted to go home, but he was determined to stay — for the Commodore, for their people. In the absence of home, he would like to return to Earth. But the Commodore was meeting with the Queen, that intimidating woman with the ominous presence and the secretive little smiles. Vyn didn’t trust her, or her army. He couldn’t leave until he knew the Commodore had returned, until he knew the Commodore remained unharmed. Certainly the Commodore could handle himself if the Queen overstepped or made threats, but… But. The Commodore was weak and tired. He sat on the floor last night and got his rest there. What if the Queen pressed her advantage? They’d already lost their Commanders and two of their fellow Cadets. What if they lost their Commodore, too? Vyn was going to be sick. Or his lungs would burst from overuse. Or collapse from underuse. Was he breathing? Did he remember how? Well, no. He was pretty sure he’d forgotten how to breathe when the Commodore put an arm around him last night. Quote: Open for interaction! He's a mess. emo

Cadet Caelyna
Caelyna had done her best to sleep, especially since she was snuggled up with Fae-Fae, who also desperately needed rest. She was tired--bone-deep exhausted, really--and she had hoped that sleep would be easy, and come quickly, and offer a brief respite from the terrible, awful day they had all experienced.
She was not nearly so lucky. Sleep came, but only in brief fits and starts, and finally, she disentangled herself from Fae-Fae because it was approaching Earth morning, the Commodore was leaving to speak to that awful Queen, and she was tired of pretending to be able to rest.
There was little to do even when she was awake, except perhaps pace a hole in the floor, but she was definitely fidgety and discomfited. And trying to ignore the gaping hole in her heart that was the absence of Velyria.
She should have been here with them, soothing and comforting, checking to make sure they were all alright. But she wasn't. She was gone. So was Cydfae. So was Caerynn, and Gavaen.
Caelyna was doing her best not to let the weight crush her.
"We could try to clean up, some," she offered to Daesva, Aliez, and Vyn. They all looked as harrowed as she felt--as, she imagined, she, too, must look. She knew her braid was coming apart, at least, but she couldn't find it in her to try and fix it.
Velyria usually helped her with that, when she could.
Velyria would never help her with that again.
"Though I hope we won't be staying here long, and I have to admit, I'm not fussed about being courteous guests."Quote: Open for interactions! heart

Cadet Fae-Fae
The sunrise!!
That was the thought that snapped Fae-Fae awake. It was time to go observe it again!
She bolted up from under her blanket to a rigid sitting position -- and then her form loosened and melted and shrank a bit after blinking a couple of times and remembering where she was. They were still in the unsettling place they had been brought to, which meant they were still in the aftermath of all the horrible events that happened the previous day.
Velyria was gone. Gavaen was gone. Cydfae was gone. Caerynn was gone forever.
She shivered, shivered on the floor and wrapped her arms around her knees as reality set in, firmer now after an unexpectedly deep sleep. She wasn't ready for all of those things to be in the past yet.

Cadet NaeriaWhen Naeria came to consciousness, everything was heavy. Her bones were heavy. Her muscles were heavy, and they ached from the way she’d spent the whole night twisted and curled up. Even the air in the room felt weighed down, so much so that it was almost too heavy to breathe. She might not have been as close to the ones that they’d lost as some of the others had been, but she could still feel the gaping hole of their absence. She could see it in the drawn faces of those around her, when she finally managed to open her eyes to look. The warp pad that the Commodore had mentioned was a tempting thought. The soft breeze of the forest would be so much better than the sad, stale air in here. The sunrise visible through the branches would lift everyone’s spirits more than the darkness outside the windows of this house, she thought. She only stayed because she wanted to know the Queen’s terms, not just guess at them. She wanted to hear the Commodore’s thoughts on it all, to see if he was going to make some kind of alliance with these awful people. Naeria curled up small under her blanket, which she held onto tightly. Quote: open for interaction of course!

Itztenoch
Woke warm and heavy with limbs half asleep buried under the weight of something. How Tenoch felt himself stiffen and stir as he grasped at what lay over him. Face a rictus of fear before he settled into realizing - where. Slowly - sleepily - that the heavy warm forms he held clutched in a grip that was maybe to tight were his friends.
Gazed with hissed sigh of quietude on Eso and Nessa. Squirmed a bit as he pulled them closer - ignored how his mind denoted the impossibility of such a thing, and yet? If he could've tucked them into his subspace pocket he would've. Would've eternally kept them on him like precious pieces of source stone to pull out at whim. Felt suddenly somber as he stirred pastel purple locks and blue-green strands with his stifled sighs that spoke of sorrows and small hurts.
Sore - from the fight - from the night. His mind and eyes and form.
Worth it. For the fact that they'd survived.
Scanned his friends, his partners, his loves - scanned the room - lilac irises that widened ever so slightly when he remembered how few they had left.
How Lyndin had *left* -- no longer posted at the door, and Aliez nervously scuttling about and tending - always. Tenoch vowed, someway, some how, he would repay them for their hard work. Looked upon those that remained and wanted to reaffirm -- their bonds - their - something? Blamed Earth's influences for making him crave the closeness of the team as a whole, where before the mission had been his orient and goal. Yet now? He was rudderless without it -- adrift without the anchor of it. What he considered his. His team. His friends.

Cadet FangnylFangnyl hadn't slept well, despite his body screaming for it. Despite being near Aliez. Everything about being in Negaspace set him on edge, teeth, of all things, feeling strangely itchy about it all. Running his tongue along them, he made a surprised noise when a blanket whizzed in their direction towards Aliez. Oh, Daesva. He smiled and waved slightly at her, trying not to laugh. If he did, it would probably come out unhinged and hysterical. He didn't want to be in Negaspace any longer, wanting to warp out, and he had permission to do so—but it still felt like he didn't, not really. Not until everyone left together. He didn't want to leave anyone alone in this horrible, awful place. With its strange sounds and choking air. Or maybe his throat was just run ragged from holding back all the tears he wanted to cry. He didn't know. But hopefully, once Lyndin was back, they would all leave together. And not need to step foot in here again.

NessaelaThe thought slithered into her mind. It would have been so easy to leave this place behind. Nessaela had woken a few times over the period of rest that she had been attempting to stare longingly at her ComTech. The fact that they could safely leave the Negaverse at any time was a blessing, but also a curse. Nessa knew that she would never leave Eso and Tenoch behind and yet that damn knowledge of a safe way out of this mess called incessantly. It took all of her willpower to remain curled up against the forms of two of her fellow cadets. They'd risked life and limb to retrieve her from the field of battle and she owed it to them to stay for as long as she could.
Even the faintest of breaths that stirred some of the hairs caused Nessaela to glance over to the source and she rolled her shoulders before peering towards Tenoch. One could only ever hope to find someone as daring as he'd been. She shifted once more before giving voice to a question that had been on her mind, "Tenoch, considering the choice I made during the battle, I'm curious why you don't see me as a betrayer... you would have had every right to leave me where I'd fallen."
What would she learn from his response?
As she waited she glanced towards the others in the room before pulling the blanket she had grabbed even tighter around her shoulders. Was she imagining that the blanket could protect her, even now?

Something had tugged him and it roused Eso enough from his sleep that one lilac eye drifted open and his pupil turned into barely a visible slit. He groaned and buried himself further into Tenoch's chest. He was probably there. All Eso could remember was falling asleep.
That wasn't true. .....he wished it was all he remembered. The longer he laid there, motionless, trying to get back to sleep, the more that came to him from only hours before. One of his hands moved, finding Tenoch's. Nessa's was smaller. He was sure this was Tenoch's hand, and he laced their fingers together slowly. Tenoch was a warm weight. Nessa too, both a silent anchor to make sure Eso wasn’t dreaming. He hadn’t lost either of them.
It was odd he had fallen asleep, either way. Eso supposed his body was a lot more exhausted than he thought, having just fought a battle like that. A battle that had nearly cost him everything. He almost picked the humans over his own kind. Over his friends. How could he do that? The humans weren’t anything to him, in comparison. He was raised with these people, trained with them. They were all he knew, and he was willing to throw that away?
The thought made him sick to his stomach now. It cramped painfully as he let his face twist up with his emotions. He was never good at schooling them, despite what he hoped.
Almost gave all this up, almost helped ruin everything. Now they were stuck here until they could figure out …their future, he supposed. The future of Velencia. It was such a weight to carry. Surely by oneself, a crushing weight that would make decisions hard. He looked up and around for their commanding officer. He didn’t spot him right away. Must not be in this area yet.
The sighs from the other, the way he was moving. Eso pushed himself up slightly onto the elbow of his free hand and looked down at the purple Velencian and let his brows knit tightly. Suffering just as much as he was, it seemed. Tenoch looked so lost...
Slowly he looked at Nessa and just shook his head a little more. Leaning forward, he pressed his lips to Tenoch's cheek and then laid his head right back on the other's chest before Nessa spoke.
"....I hadn't made the same choice as him in the beginning either," he whispered to them both. "We don't leave each other behind on an alien planet when we have to make snap decisions." Slowly one of his hands moved, cupping Nessa's cheek if he could.
He ached for her something terrible. "....We didn't have the information we do now. We weren't told everything. You made a choice based on your own information and studies... ...I know I can't fault you.."
No one should fault them for choices they didn’t ultimately make. It didn’t happen, and in the end they were here. Alive, injured, but alive and able to see what they had nearly done.
Eso just burrowed himself closer to Tenoch.

Cadet AndreiyaIt was easier to lay there, with his eyes closed, and pretend like he was asleep. He heard others moving, speaking. He didn’t know what he was supposed to be doing, and it was easier to pretend like he was just so exhausted that he hadn’t woken up yet.
He had fallen asleep close to Naeria, though, and when she started to move he didn’t think he could keep up the facade for any longer. He’d hidden beneath the blanket, partly because it was cold and partly because it was private. He’d slept in the living room because it felt safe there, and he liked being around everyone.
He’d heard the Commodore leave, but he hadn’t been able to do more than peek out from under the blankets and watch him go.
He didn’t know how long it had been--it felt like too long. He had to be coming back soon.
Had to.
With answers, and good news.
But, if the Commodore was coming back soon, he didn’t want to look like he’d slept in all this time. Finally, reluctantly, he pushed himself into a seated position. He kept the blanket draped around him like a cloak, and tiredly wiped at his eyes before moving on to comb his fingers through his hair.
He glanced at Naeria again but didn’t want to shake her awake; she’d had a rough night and if she still needed sleep, he wanted her to get every last second of it.

The Dark Kingdom was far from the friendliest realm, and it was for that purpose--and because he already suspected that the Cadets would be on edge from the previous night, that Lyndin knocked before he opened the door. One knock, a slight pause, and then three more. It wasn’t anything significant, and it might not have been something he even put much thought into; back on their ships, a four note tune would play before a door opened to give people time to move aside or announce that there was company. He waited a second, and then opened the door. The protective barrier around the building was still in place, and he passed through it easily enough. Lyndin looked tired, there was no hiding it. He carried himself like someone who wasn’t exhausted, but in the safety of this place, he let those barriers slide, just a little. He was in one piece, no worse for wear than when he’d left. He looked perfectly respectable, perfectly formidable. Just, tired. He surveyed the room quickly and nodded to each of the Cadets in polite greeting, but he knew his limits and brushed his cape to the side so he could settle into a chair. He leaned back into it and exhaled, like he could finally relax a bit, but he had no intention of holding them in suspense. “Negotiations were fine. Things were less dramatic than I expected.” He didn’t sound like he was swooning with trust, but it sounded like whatever had been arranged was satisfactory. For now. He seemed to anticipate a conversation, and questions, and he was already settling in so he could give them his full attention. “...Have you had a chance to eat anything yet? I have rations stored. There’s a few things we should probably go over.” He didn’t sound excited, but it was necessary. No more secrets. Probably.

Cadet AliezAliez didn’t realized Daesva was talking to him at first. But when a balled up blanket was tossed at him, he squeaked in surprise, watching helplessly as the first blanket, and now second blanket, fell to the floor in a heap. He drew in a deep shuddering breath, as though it was the only thing holding him together at the moment. But Caelyna was right. They should at least try to clean up some, if only to keep themselves distracted. He leaned down to pick the blankets back up to work on finding the edges when he heard the familiar toned knock that he knew the rest of them would hear, and immediately looked to the door as Commodore Lyndin entered. Aliez remained rooted to the spot. He couldn’t breathe as the Commodore explained how negotiations were fine. Had he eaten…? Aliez couldn’t remember the last time he’d eaten anything. He’d given out the food he’d kept in subspace for emergencies to the others. He gave his saved water to the others as well. But that was fine. It was what he wanted. To make sure the others were as well as possible, especially in a place like this. He was not as efficient with combat as everyone else, so the least he could do is make sure everyone was cared for. As for Commodore Lyndin, Aliez just watched him with sad eyes. The Commodore hadn’t let him try to use his Source Stone to help him recover the night before, and while he hadn’t been conscious to see it, he suspected that Caelyna attempted to do the same and ended up needing hers replaced. Maybe it was because of the energy from Archideus. Maybe something was keeping their Source Stones from working on the Commodore. It didn’t have anything to do with the fact that he was dying, or that Velencya was dying. Aliez stood quietly in the same spot he’d been, still fidgeting anxiously with the blankets in his hands. Quote: Open for interaction! He probably won't have an emotional breakdown. Probably.

Cadet Fae-FaeThe carefully spaced knocks made Fae-Fae calm down quite a bit. While the medium was quite different from the standard, it was a deeply familiar sort of signal to her, one she appreciated hearing in this most utterly unfamiliar of places. She had to improvise like that quite often when she was a small child. It was enough to draw her to a standing position, respectfully prepared to welcome the Commodore back in. Then she listened to his initial briefing, carefully. Questions were sure to come, but she had none for now. There was still so much to think about from what they had all learned last night. She was surprised she could look at Lyndin's face so easily, after everything. He was making a deal with the people who had killed Gavaen, and she -- she was accepting it. For now, she folded her blanket and turned to Aliez, gesturing to offer help at folding the next. She needed something to do with her hands.

NessaelaKnowing that at least Eso & more than likely, Tenoch as well didn't find fault with how she had been on the battlefield eased some tension in her body. It was enough of an emotional relief that she sagged briefly against them. Her breath hitched at the sound of knocking on the door but she too picked up on the four beat pattern before ducking her gaze as the Commodore strolled right through the protective barrier.
She wasn't one to admit that she could have been wrong and while it was still tempting to just get up and warp out Nessaela felt as if she owed Lyndin, something. Besides the fact that she was still a member of the Vanguard it was hard to fathom that he'd have taken her actions on the field as possible treason. Was it better to clear the air/misconceptions or just leave things to be shrouded in silence. It was Cydfae who had threatened her position in the Vanguard and she had died. Only Eso and Tenoch knew what she had done.
Perking up she glanced at the other cadets before she primly removed the blanket and folded it. There was the question of whether any of them had eaten or not. Nessaela could remember chowing down on the chocolate bar earlier but that seemed ages ago. Instead she glanced to the Commodore before speaking up, "I've not yet had anything since before resting earlier and would not mind having something else to eat. You mentioned that some things need to go over, I'm curious to what that means though."The Space Cauldron Nessaela would gladly accept some rations if Lyndin's offering.
