A harvest moon was well on its way to claiming the sky by the time that Eliazer caught wind of his target. This was his first mission away from from his mentor and a lot was riding on his ability to succeed. If he failed he might not get the chance to branch out on his own for a while which meant his earnings would be quite a bit slimmer and what he could send home would be small as well. He needed this so the Geian moved through the dimming streets with a hard heart and a firm resolve.
His blunderbuss hung loose over his shoulder. At a moments notice he could pull the trigger and be done with it, but for now Eliazer was just keeping an eye out. He was looking for a wagon thief; one who had committed his fair share of murders. The security district of Valmon had a bounty on his head that was good for either dead or alive and Eliazer wasn’t particularly keen on which. All he had to do was look for a stocky fellow of Geian blood with a facial marking.

You'd think that a man who frequented the local taverns would be a bit more... mm. Aware. Of the gossip and other goings ons of the town. You know, the sort of man who worked long hours and came to share a drink around a table with like minded gentleman, heads bowed together as they discussed Things. But no, Gabhan wasn't that sort - rather, he was the mindless sort of man who danced and sang and plucked at his instrument in the corner while everyone else minded their own business. On good nights, the spirit could be infectious and spread to those assembled, leading to a throng of merriment and clapping and dancing that lasted for hours.
But tonight, as he packed away his instrument and peered around, he could only idly point out to the other musicians that 'Wow, it sure is deserted tonight isn't it?'
It was dark on the way home, but the moon cast a friendly glow over the streets. Gabhan had to cut himself off from humming as he walked, reminding himself that people were likely asleep, and he didn't want to be disruptive like the drunks that often caroused through the alleys, loudly, after drinking the night away.

While not much of a conversationalist, Eliazer had shown a note around town asking about a certain a man. The description had been keen enough that it pointed him to a musician; one who had a friendly enough reputation, but he’d seen that type before. This looked to be the kind of man who thought that by changing towns, picking up a hobby and a new name could erase the misdeeds of his past. Men like that couldn’t hide for long and men like Eliazer were always the one to expose them.
So, he’d hung around the outside of the tavern for a while, casually chewing on a piece of hard jerky until the man in question packed up for the night. He waited longer still until he was just far enough down the street to casually drop in behind him and keep his distance. There were still too many people lolling about; drunks, but people all the same. They might remember his face if he cocked his weapon now. No, he needed to wait….

Perhaps Gabhan should have noticed someone tailing him. He was a man who enjoyed people, but not one that was incredibly... self aware, even at the best of times. It had been a long day of manual labor today, followed by playing at the tavern, and despite how invigorated he felt from it he was still... very tired. He stifled a yawn, and peered up at the moon again, trying to draw what energy he could from it. Didn't people in the other continent worship the moon? Like... as a goddess or something?
Scratching his jaw, he turned off the main street to take a short cut to the edge of the settlement, where he'd follow the road a few miles to his family's home.

His target seemed exhausted which was either a carefully played rouse or an opportunity. Eliazer wouldn't have expected anything less from a carriage rustler. When the other man paused to look up at the moon Eli took a soft step to the side, using the shadows from a nearby building to mask his own. It would have been an easy enough shot then, but it was still too open. The thing about his profession was that while the Sector for Justice would back up his actions the public wouldn't and Eliazer still had to live.
So when the other man turned off the main street he knew he had his moment. Eliazer stepped out of the shadows them and followed along. He slowly lowered his blunderbuss, prepped it to fire and right when he was as close to the end of the street as possible took a shot.

Gabhan literally didn't see it coming. After all, he was in a dark little alley, devoid or anything but some rubbish and debris thrown out of the back doors of shops. Then - a noise blasted through the still air, and pain lanced its way through the thick meat of his upper arm. He stumbled and yelled, clasping at his arm - then drew his hand away, startled at the presence of blood. Quick as he could, he ducked around the corner at the end of the alley, pressing his back to the stones - fumbling with his good hand at his belt for his knife.
"H-hey! I don't have any gold on me! Don't shoot!"

Eliazer mentally cursed. It wasn’t the clean shot he’d wanted, but Eliazer attributed that to still being relatively new to his blunderbuss. He’d grown more used to the pistol, but with his growing size he could carry a much more robust weapon, so he was trying to take advantage of it. Pride in that choice had cost him an easy mark.
Curling his lip, he gave pursuit but stopped just short of the end. Instead, he prepped his weapon one more time. Gold? It was so like scum to try and buy their way into safety! Eliazer jumped out from the alley and fired once more, this time taking a risk on a hasty point blank attack.

There was the telltale sign of rushed footsteps hammering down the alleyway, but over the thrumming of his pulse and heavy breathing in his ears Gabhan didn't hear the clicking of the blunderbuss as it was prepped. Instead, bloody fingers fumbling with his knife, he gave up on trying to unclip it from its leather holster and instead tugged his stringed instrument off his hip, holding it clumsily at the neck like a makeshift club.
When a shape jumped around the corner, he yelled and swung - unsure if the resounding 'twang' of broken strings and shattering wood was from a hit to his assailant, or the corner of the building itself.

Eliazer was prepared for a pistol or perhaps even a dagger - not the instrument. It slammed into his raised blunderbuss, knocking his shot off target and the resulting 'boom' ricocheted off the closest wall. Instead of fighting it Eliazer allowed the weapon to drop from his hands as he moved to throw a hard upper cut into the gut of his opponent.
This man was going down one way or another.

Oh sh-- Gabhan bodily flinched away from the loud concussiveness of the shot, and his moment of hesitancy lost him any advantage his surprise attack might have given him. The punch hit him hard, winding him and making his knees wobble as his body tried to fold in on itself and sag downwards - instead. The shattered pieces of his beloved instrument had long since clattered to the cobblestones below, so he instead twined his fingers into the material of his attacker's front - and hefted, as best he could, to try and throw them into the side of the building.
Seeing them now, he realized his attacker was another Geian - a bit older than him, with a beard and markings along his throat. "I'm not-- hhff- why are you attacking me?! You shot me--" His eyes wildly shot down towards his instrument, a wounded noise breaking from him - more so than when he'd been punched, painful and winding though it had been.

Eliazer was already reaching for the other Geian’s shoulder, gripping the man’s collarbone in preparation for another attack when he was wrenched up. His boots stepped onto something that crunched beneath them – likely bits of the instrument – before his back hit a wall. Admittedly, up close, this man looked a lot younger than the description he’d read. Still, the facial marking was near identical so maybe the information was wrong?
And why was he caterwauling over a broken thing like that when he’d murdered dozens?
Instead of questioning things too much Eliazer brought his head down and slammed his forehead into the other mans.

Gabhan was a hardy man, strong from hefting stones and working with heavy tools. But he was no fighter, and his stamina wasn't intended for anything like this. Adrenaline had pushed through the burning pain in his arm, but the punch to his gut had burned most of it away - and the lack of response from his attacker, and continued assault quickly won out. The crack of a head hitting his stunned him, and he released the assailant - instead reaching up to cover his face with both hands, both to clutch at the pain there, and to prevent further attacks to it, releasing the other and leaving himself vulnerable.
He'd lost - he knew it the moment he let go, but he didn't have the focus or energy to do anything about it. By now the pain was searing in his arm, more keen than even hitting his thumb with a hammer blow.

Unlike Gabhan, Eliazer had been bred for a good fight. Through his father’s rage he’d learned how to defend himself and those skills lent him to a very loose moral code when it came to fights. There was no honor in fights; if gouging eyes and stomping private bits made him the winner then so be it. He was fully prepared to go all out on the other Geian when his opponent pulled out completely.
Was he just…giving in? Eliazer raised his fists defensively, readying himself for the inevitable fake out, but it just…didn’t come. Well this was…boring and unfortunate. Maybe he would just do better to take him in alive, then? With a huff, Eliazer reached for a set of manacles that hung at his side and with a flick he opened the cuffs. Before the other could lower his arms Eliazer was snapping the manacles around his exposed wrists.

Given he'd been attacked in the dead of night, shot, punched, and headbutted, Gabhan feared the next he could expect was a knife to the heart, or throat - to be left bleeding out in the alleyway. Instead ... manacles were slapped on, and his stunned brain spiraled with confusion as he lowered his hands enough to peer at them. He opened his mouth to ask if this man was a pirate - someone sent to capture souls, and take them to... he didn't know. Those tree women? They were literal man-eaters, weren't they? That's what he'd heard--
"Why?" He croaked, instead, tugging weakly at the manacles - which, being made of metal, showed no weakness.

While his opponent was still stunned, now by the fact he’d been captured, Eliazer took his opportunity to attach a smaller chain to the one looping the manacles together. This one was much longer; a lead, of sorts, so that he would walk behind him to the station.
Why? Eliazer snorted and dug through his pocket. As if he didn’t know….Once he had his hands on the bounty slip, he held it out for the other Geian to take. Even if he ripped it up it wouldn’t stop Eliazer from collecting his fee.
