In her haste to get away she hadn't taken care of her wound so it ended up being the cause of her fall. Literally. The shifter had keeled over in the tall grass, hidden from plain sight but easily found if one just walked a little in her direction. When she'd fallen over from exhaustion and blood loss, the mask that had hidden the bottom of her face had been pulled off. It was clear now that she was a young girl and not some shadow in the night. Though she did have on the black cloak and dark clothing to be a shadow.

Sarnai hadn't yet woken, but she was hovering on the darker side of consciousness. She was aware that she was laying down. There was no way she was vertical. A wave of dizziness kept her under and it muffled the sounds around her. Somewhere in the back of her mind alarm bells rang and red flags waved relentlessly but she couldn't focus on those right now. She was more concerned with breathing. She was doing that, right? In. Hold for three. Out.

Getting away from his parents for the afternoon was a bit of a treat for Wren. Lately they'd doubled up his chores because of recent 'discussions' in town, but he couldn't really understand their concerns. Villagers were talking about his 'odd behavior' more and more with every passing year. At first it hadn't been much of a concern for the pair, but now...? Now they thought that keeping him home might be the best answer.

Wren whole heartedly disagreed! He needed to be out in the world, exploring the mortal plane while he could before being send back into the spiritual realm! And now, he was doing just that! Instead of doing a very simple errand he'd run off into the wildnerness and was happily exploring the space around him.

The young iceling meandered through the taller grass, keen on seeing if there was anything sweet to snack on nearby, when he stumbled - quite literally! - across a body! He gasped out of pure shock. That coloring...why, no one looked like that unless they were dead! Stooping lower, Wren moved the figure - a young girl? - and checked for a pulse. "Still alive!" Just barely, though!

"All black...pale skin...are you a haunted spirit? Oh you must be, look at your side!" Ghost blood wasn't red though, was it? Getting a better look at the wound, Wren gently touched the cloth around it and lifted his sticky fingers for an inspection. Yep, that was fresh; definitely not a ghost.

Nothing seemed to register in her mind. She was still obliviously kept just under the surface of consciousness as she was moved and felt for a pulse. Some strange garbled voice reached her mind but she didn't know what it said. Just that it was loud. It wasn't until her wound was poked that she came around fully. All at once she remembered that she'd been running for her life to find safety. That she'd been pursued. That she'd been injured. Oh no! She thought. I've been found!

Instantly her body moved. She snatched up one of her throwing knives and wielded it like a dagger to hold against her 'attacker's' throat. The threat lasted all of two seconds since the sudden movement made her flinch at the pain in her side and doing essentially a crunch with a foreign object still in one's side hurt a little. With a grunt Sarnai flopped back down onto the ground and panted for a few breaths. "Ah s**t.." Blinking through the pain she focused on the person who had found her. They didn't look like the people from the night before but that didn't prove she was safe.

She looked around as best as she could. "Where are we?" Her tone was pitched and she struggled to keep the pain out of it.

For a moment Wren thought he might have been too late. She wasn't moving and he wasn't really for sure how pale was too pale in this case. He was just about to move her again, just to get a better look at the wound, then the shifter sprang to life! Crying out he stumbled back, falling onto his butt next to her.

He wasn't expecting the knife at his throat and his golden eyes widened with fear. For a moment he feared the worst, that a spirit had possessed her already and was ready to go on a rampage until...she deflated again? The teen took a moment to collect himself, reaching up to rub at his neck even though it didn't even have so much as scratch, while he looked at her.

"Just outside of Yera...in Tale." He added, just incase she wasn't aware. When his curiosity couldn't be sated anymore Wren adjusted himself until he was sitting on his knees and leaned over, his ombred hair falling over her as he looked at her face. His sharpened teeth were fully visible as he opened his mouth to gawk. "You might die here."

When he told her where they were she cursed with a groan. Apparently she'd run farther than she thought. No wonder she'd dropped to the ground with exhaustion. When the boy told her she might die there she just spared him a deadpan look. "... That's comforting. Your bedside manner could use some work."

Sarnai grunted as she shifted again, moving so that she could halfway sit up. She needed to get the bolt out of her side and have someone stitch up the wound. This boy didn't look like he was a healer though. "Hey, you know any healers?" She was desperately hoping he said yes.

Wren furrowed his brow. "...You aren't on a bed." She must have lost more blood than he thought. Looking down at her side, he lifted a bit of cloth around it's edges once more to peep, but then she started moving. Instead of messing with it too much he scooted back, keen on just observing for the moment.

"Not a one." The iceling answered with an honest smile. "The couple who watch over this mortal form are butchers, though. They could stitch you back." Looking at that bolt, though, make his lips purse. Maybe she would die soon and then he could have a spiritual friend? That...might not be so bad, but...no no, he should definitely help her.

"I wouldn't pull it out yet. You'll definitely die."

"No? I thought this nice grass classified as a bed for you." She was being a bit more sarcastic than usual but could anyone really blame her? She had a bolt in her side and it hurt. Sarnai let out a small curse to the dark moon then looked at the boy with a bit of a concerned look. The way he spoke was a bit off. Odd really.

"Alright, being stitched up would be useful. I just need to make sure I don't.." And then he told her not to pull the bolt out since she'd die. Yeah. Sarnai was just getting to that part. "... bleed out." She finished.

With a sigh she motioned for him to help her to her feet. "I need to get up. Might need you to help me walk. Not sure what strength I have." And wasn't that a tragedy. Having to rely on a stranger to walk was never a good situation.

"Never been fond of grass, really; I prefer the dirt underneath." Wren ran his tongue over the sharper edges of his teeth as he thought over the situation. She needed to be moved and fast, but he wasn't very strong so if they moved too quickly then there might be complications.

He maneuvered his body around so that he was standing with one leg on either side of her body. When he crouched it was obvious he was well prepared to take on most of the lifting. "One, two, stand; let me do the work." The noose that hung around his neck hung forward as he leaned, thumping against the shifter beneath him. "What's your favorite kind of rock?"

Questions could distract, right? So, if he could keep her talking then she would be awake and okay.

Being lifted up with the stranger doing most of the work helped. Sarnai didn't feel as much pain from being moved around so much. She had to scrunch up her nose at being hit in the face with a... noose? The shifter eyed it somewhat before she looked up at the boy. How strange. Then again he spoke strange sometimes too. So she guessed it fit him.

When he asked her what her favorite kind of rock was she literally paused to give him a deadpan look. "Favorite rock..? Really?" Sarnai shook her head and rolled her eyes slightly. "Granite. I like the grey color." It was relaxing. Not to mention the coolness of the stone was usually welcoming.

Once he had the shifter up on her feet Wren started the slow process of getting her back through the tall grass and into his home. He was careful for a variety of reasons; the ground wasn't level in some places, there could be hidden creatures, and he was afraid if he moved too fast it would put unnecessary strain on her body. So, he chose a slow but steady pace to fit with his odd questions.

"Mine's diorite. It's what they use to make pillars and walking stones in nicer cities." Some of his hair fell across his face, but Wren didn't fuss with it. It happened so often that he didn't much care. "Granite's nice, though. It's prettier."

He maneuvered them around a fallen log, doing his best to sidestep it without jostling her too much, but failing anyway. "Oceans or Mountains?"

The slower pace was nice, it meant she could limp along and favor her side to ease the pain. It still hurt because the muscles pulled around the bolt. As he chatted on about his favorite rock she tried to focus on where her feet went.

The fallen log thing caused her to hiss when she was jostled. Sarnai looked at him with slightly narrowed eyes as if he did it on purpose. Then he asked another question. The shifter wasn't sure what the questions were for but she thought about it. Oceans were pretty. But Mountains had better strategic value. "Mountains." Her reply was short and purely based off her secret profession.

For a moment he caught her glare, but it it was meant to deter him it didn't. Instead, Wren flashed her a brilliant smile with all of his filed teeth on full display.

"We're agreed. Oceans can devour souls, but mountains trap them for an eternity. Once you're there you never leave and there's just something so wonderful about that." For a while he didn't really talk since Wren was more focused on getting her there in one piece.

Eventually, however, they came to a brook and he was left at a dilemma. Drag her through it or try to carry her. "Do you think you can get on my back or..?"

She had to pause to look at him when he said his reason for liking the mountains. Sarnai wasn't sure if she would go that far, but he kinda had a point. If one were to set a trap in the mountains then it was less likely that person would be found or leave. The Ocean could always drag a person down and then spit them out somewhere else. Still, his way of thinking was slightly concerning.

When they reached the brook she looked at it then at him. The question about her getting onto his back made her give him a deadpan expression; something she had a feeling would be a constant near him. "Suuuuure. I only have something sticking out of my side." A sarcastic snort left her as she rolled her eyes. After a small moment she gave a nod. "Yeah, I probably can. It's gonna hurt though." For her anyways.

There was something about that look that just made Wren so happy. It was almost like her spirit was slipping out bit by bit every time he talked. It should have made him sad or at the very least embarrassed, but if anything it made Wren want to mess with her more. What if he could see it, the embers of her lifeforce, burning away in the setting sun-?

No no no! He was trying to save her! Save!

"You could always drown." He was almost too quick at stating it, and caught himself. "Not that you should or that I'll let you - you'd just take me with you, I can feel it." Clearing his throat, Wren lowered himself and shifted her as carefully as she could until she was lined up just right. "One, two-" As quickly as he could, without giving her a chance to back out, Wren put his arms under her thighs and lifted the shifter up.

Well there was an idea. Sarnai looked at Wren a bit before she rolled her eyes. There was clearly something wrong with this one. When he lowered himself in front of her she eyed him slightly. While she had meant it she was a bit skeptical as to his strength. Not that she had any time to say as much or even attempt to reposition before he grabbed her thighs and had her up. The sudden movement made her cringe and grunt in pain. "Eclipse take you..!! That hurt!"

When she moved a little to avoid touching her side she sighed and almost slumped against Wren. "Try not to drown us."
