For the entirety of her trip to Jauhar Adenah had felt off. At first she'd attributed it to nerves since it had been some time since she'd visited her family. Seeing her brothers again, as well as spending some time with her parents, was a welcome reprieve to the stresses she'd been undergoing lately. Navigating her contract with Grunt was worrisome enough without having to worry about a budding relationship or...Well, whatever they were classifying it as. The sheer amount of anxiety inducing factors was enough to keep her mind off any physical symptoms for around a month or so, but when she crossed back into Oba Adenah started seeing signs.

Signs that caused her to see a healer immediately.

It didn't take long after the exam for the hybrid to find herself at the forge. Normally she would have waited until the end of the 'work day' to see him. He would have still been working, but the business portion would have been closed off to clients. As it stood the fiery hybrid threw open the door, regardless of who was there and stormed inside with a raised dagger.

Being that it was client work hours there was indeed someone inside when Adenah decided to make an appearance. Dovian was mid sentence talking to the elderly man who had come to commission something for his grandson to mark his graduation of something. He hadn't cared too much about that, what he focused on was what was to be made.

When the door was thrown open and a certain woman came in Dovian looked toward her to see who it was. The blacksmith was about to offer a smile and direct her to the small room to the side so she could rest until he was done but then he noticed the dagger and the position it was in. That wasn't normal. Ade had certainly never come at him like that before. Or was she going after the client? No, that wouldn't make sense either. Adenah was good at what she did so if this was a job she wouldn't do it in such a crass manner.

That meant she was upset with him.

Dovian moved only so that his large body was in front of the elderly man, just in case, but beyond that he kept his eyes on the gorgeous hybrid and his hands in front of him with the small rag to wipe the grit off them. "Something's wrong." There was no question of that.

Adenah leveled the blade at Dovian with a snarl. "YOU." The hybrid stalked across the space separately them with the flames of her ire licking at her very soul. "You THINK? I should gut you where you stand!" She barely even noticed the old man and even if she had what of it?! It wasn't like she was going after HIM. Let him see!

She sped up then and raised her arm to put the blade at his throat. "You had better be a praying man, Dovian, because only a god could save you now." Every word from her mouth was spoken through gritted teeth. Her hair was still mussed from travel, her clothing wrinkled, and in all honesty Adenah had no idea where her bags even were. Who cared?!

Yeah, she was clearly upset with him. Not that Dovian understood why. The last time he'd seen her she was going to visit her mother in Jauhar. Unless.. It hadn't been two months, had it? He briefly looked toward the ceiling to mentally count the weeks. No, he hadn't gone past the time to go rescue her from her family. So what then?

When he brought his gaze back down she was right there and had the blade to his throat. Dovian tilted his head back and to the side, showing that he wasn't going to fight her on it but he kept his gaze on her. His hands moved out to the side, showing he was unarmed save for the gritty rag in the one.

The elderly man behind him went wide eyed at the clear display of aggression from the woman. Though when the blade was held against the blacksmith's throat he looked at the woman then Dovian before he cleared his throat. "I don't know what you did, sonny, but you clearly upset the young woman." He nodded. "In my experience its best to admit you're wrong and find a way to fix it fast."

He couldn't help the small tug at the corner of his mouth when he heard the client behind him. Upset was an understatement. And if it wasn't then he didn't want to see Adenah pissed off. "I'd like to know what I'm apologizing for first." At his words he gave Ade a pointed look. She was giving him nothing to go off here.

She knew he wasn't going to fight her on it; had known it in her core, but the lack of resistance did nothing to temper her. If anything it caused Adenah to pull a second dagger out of a sheath on her thigh and angle it toward his gut. "This isn't something he can fix." What good would an apology do now?

"I'm pregnant. I saw a healer on my way back into the city." Weight gain wasn't something that Adenah was uncommon with nor was fluctuations in appetite, but when her cycle hadn't come she'd been suspicious. As soon as the Oban healer had confirmed her suspicions she'd seen red.

The second dagger had him bringing his hands down from the side so that he could reach for her slowly. One blade was threat enough. Two was a bit much. However, hearing that this was something he couldn't fix made him give her a strange look. What did that mean? Then the bomb was dropped. Pregnant.

His ming swirled for a moment. Adenah was pregnant. With his kid. He was going to be a dad.

Not even a second later a smirk formed on his lips as he put his hands on Ade's generous hips to pull her close, slowly. Dovian couldn't help that he felt joy over the news. "I can't say I'm sorry about that. However, this isn't about me. How do you feel about this?"

"STOP that." Why was he smirking?! He should have been panicking just like she was! The assasin kept an eye on him as he lowered his hands, fully prepared to switch tactics and when he put his hands on her hips she snapped. Adenah flipped the dagger in the left hand and hit his bicep with the hilt. "I feel like I don't want to have this discussion with an old man in the room." She couldn't keep her volume down if she tried and when she looked around Dovian to his client there was a brief moment of empathy.

Okay, so maybe he had just been trying to get a commission made. "No offense." She then turned back to Dovian, "When you get this wrapped up we can talk in the back." Brushing away from him, Adenah straightened herself up a bit and made her way to the back room.

The old man chuckled a bit when he heard the issue at hand. Apparently the young lady hadn't been aiming for children but young men were virile weren't they! When the shifter hybrid snapped and said she didn't want to have the conversation with an old man in the room he smiled at her and shook his head lightly. "It's alright dear, I'll be quick so you can give him a beating."

Dovian grunted when the hilt of the dagger hit his bicep. He felt the nerve tingle and it made his fingers twitch. He should have guessed that she would know exactly where to hit him with that thing. He moved his hands away from her since she clearly wasn't looking for affection at the moment. When she said she would talk with him after he was finished with the client he nodded and watched her go to the back room. He was still wearing a smile though.

When she was out of sight he turned back to his client, apologized, and got the rest of the order down as quickly as possible. In all it would be another twenty minutes before he could see the elderly man out the door and lock it so no new customers came in. From there he made his way back to the back room but like a gentleman not wanting to have something thrown at his head as soon as he entered, he knocked first. "Is it safe to come in?" He asked gently.

"Thank you." She responded curtly to the old man. Adenah may have been in a mood, but she wasn't impolite; at least, to people other than Dovian. Adenah stormed off into the back, threw the door open just as dramatically as she had the front and slammed it behind her.

The time away from him might have been brief, but it did help her to calm a little. There was just so much whirling around in her head! She wanted to scream and throw things; so, naturally, she did just that. When she heard a knock at the door Adenah's instincts kicked in. She grabbed the closest thing to her, which just so happened to be a water pitcher, and hurled it at the door.

After a few moments the shifter hybrid took a deep breath. "Now it is."

He paused when he heard something hit and then break against the door. Dovian knew he didn't open the door for a reason. He waited patiently on the outside of it for an answer. He knew he was heard because whatever had hit the door had been aimed for it. When Adenah finally answered him he took a deep breath then opened it.

He was slow at first, waiting for something else to come flying. When it was open enough for him to see the woman in the room he offered her a soft smile, nothing like the smirk he'd had on earlier. "I am bound to say something you don't like so I'll let you lead this conversation." Dovian had a feeling anything he said would cause Ade to throw more things or to be irritated with him. She was clearly less than pleased with the situation as it was and he didn't want to add to it.

Adenah slowly sheathed the daggers at her sides with a deepset scowl. She wasn't jovial, not in the least, but at least she wasn't ready to throw anything else. Yet.

"You're not worried about this?" Out of everything they'd done together up til this point Adenah had never expected to add parenthood to the list. Granted, she hadn't done a thing to prevent it, but it just hadn't crossed her mind. "It's a risk for the two of us to be in public together let alone raising a child. Dovian, we aren't even together together." Were they? They spent enough time around one another to count, but not once had they ever said the 'l' word. It seemed like a barrier that they kept at a healthy distance.

As she asked him if he was worried he arched a brow at her. Dovian wasn't overly concerned about having a baby. Mostly because he'd helped out enough with his younger siblings and then his nephews and niece that he felt confident enough to handle one of his own. What she said next, however, made him step into the room fully so that he could close the two of them even more privacy.

The blacksmith leaned back against the heavy door and brought his right hand up to push his dreads back some. He thought about his words carefully before finally sighing. "You are right on both points." It was risky for them because of the different guilds they were associated with. However, they kept work things separate from their personal stuff. As to the being together thing..

"Even without having officially said anything I would like to point out that I belong to you, Adenah. No one else." Dovian hadn't seen anyone else since Ade had come into the picture. "I am aware we never agreed to be exclusive or to be a couple but for me there has been no one else and while I would like to be those, I don't need them if you don't want them. They are not a requirement to keep me. So if that is what upset you, that we aren't together, it doesn't need to." By now his arms had come to cross over his chest as he leaned against the door, watching her for her reaction.

Having him fully in the room gave Adenah the feeling of being trapped. Or, rather, intensified it. She’d never had any grand aspirations of being a mother and hadn’t even considered it until she was later on in life. Maybe once all this business with the guild was settled she could have safely contemplated it but now the choice was being taken away from her.

“It’s not exactly what upset me.” She admitted on a sigh. Getting to the root of her problems when she was so accustomed to deflecting was difficult. “Partially it was, but now I feel better about it. I can’t imagine anyone, but you in my life so if you want to make this official now seems to be the time.”

She crossed her arms under her bust and looked at him; REALLY looked at him. There weren’t a lot of people she could trust with the intricacies of her life but Dovian had never given her a reason to doubt. “I can’t leave the guild. I can take time off but they’ll call me back. I guess I’m just…I didn’t want this to happen with an axe hanging over my head.”

It was good to know that hadn't been the only thing that upset her. Although he was a bit upset that it had at all. Dovian never wanted Adenah to question whether or not he was hers, or that he wouldn't stay around even with a situation like this. When she voiced her other concerns, about the guild, he understood. So his arms uncrossed and dropped back to his sides.

"I'd rather us becoming official be because you actually wanted it not because you are carrying my child." He cringed slightly at that. "Don't feel you need to just because of what is happening."

He moved away from the door to take a seat in one of the two chairs by the small table. "Thea was called back after her last so that's to be expected.." He was trying to work through the complications out loud so Ade understood his thought process. Leaving her to overthink in silence wouldn't help either of them. Or at least, he didn't think so. "If they can give you lighter duty in the later months and time off to give birth and recover then I don't see a problem. I can take care of the baby while you're busy. There's room in here for a crib." He pointed out. His job wasn't the safest but he had safe places for a baby to sleep that was away from the fire and heat.

His green gaze lifted to look at Ade. "Or are you concerned they will try to use the child against you?" If that was her concern he had another way around that.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean it to sound like that.” And for perhaps the first time in all of this Adenah’s voice had softened. “I want to be with you because of YOU; not the baby.” If she didn’t she wouldn’t still there. Her mother had raised her to depend on herself and her own skills first; others second. She was such a suspicious person with good reason but Adenah wanted to let him in.

“Mother would want to be here. As soon as she finds out she’ll be on her way and honestly, she could help watch the child while you work.” As overbearing as Dris’rynne could be having her around would be beneficial. It would give them a chance to adjust into a routine of their own as well as give the baby some added protection. “Just until we work things out.”

Thinking on it, Adenah had to grimace. “It’s not a fear so much as a certainty. As soon as he knows he’ll have me locked.”
